¹³ For such men are sham apostles, dishonest workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ.

²⁴ Then the man who had received the one thousand came up and said, 'Master, I knew you were a hard man, who reaped where you had not sown, who gathered where you had not threshed.

¹ Some people came down from Judea and began to teach the brothers, "Unless you are circumcised in accordance with the custom that Moses handed down, you cannot be saved."

²⁴ As we have heard that some of our number have disturbed you by their teaching, by continuing to unsettle your minds,

³⁰ Even from your own number men will appear who will try, by speaking perversions of truth, to draw away the disciples after them.

¹⁸ For such men are really not serving our Lord Christ but their own base appetites, and by their fair and flattering talk they are deceiving the hearts of unsuspecting people.

¹⁷ Now who is qualified for such a task? I am, for I am not a peddler of God's message, like the most of them, but like a man of sincerity, like a man that is sent from God and living in His presence, in union with Christ I speak His message.

² On the other hand, I have renounced all underhanded, disgraceful methods; I neither practice cunning nor do I tamper with God's message, but by clear and candid statements of truth I try to commend myself to every human conscience in God's sight.

¹⁵ So it is no surprise if his servants also masquerade as ministers for doing right, whose doom shall be in accordance with what they do.

⁷ which is not really another one; only there are certain people who are trying to unsettle you and want to turn the good news of Christ upside down.

⁴ they did not try it even for the sake of the false brothers who had been smuggled in, who stole in to spy out the freedom we enjoy in Christ Jesus, so as to make us slaves again.

¹⁷ These men are paying you special attention, but not sincerely. They want to shut you off from me, so that you may keep on paying them special attention.

¹² These men who are trying to force you to let yourselves be circumcised simply want to make a fine outward show, only to keep you from being persecuted for the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹⁴ so that we may not be babies any longer, or like sailors tossed about and driven around by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men through their cunning in inventing new methods of error.

¹⁵ Some, indeed, are actually preaching Christ because they are moved by jealousy and partisanship, but others are doing so from the motive of good will; ¹⁶ the latter, indeed, are doing so from love to me, for they know that I am providentially put here to defend the good news;

² Look out for those dogs, those mischief-makers, those self-mutilators!

⁴ I am saying this to keep anyone from misleading you by persuasive arguments.

⁸ Take care that nobody captures you by the idle fancies of his so-called philosophy, following human tradition and the world's crude notions instead of Christ.

⁴ to stop devoting themselves to myths and never-ending pedigrees, for such things lead to controversies rather than stimulate our trusteeship to God through faith. ⁵ But the aim of your instruction is to be love that flows out of a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith. ⁶ Some people have stepped aside from these things and turned to fruitless talking. ⁷ They want to be teachers of the law, although they do not understand the words they use or the things about which they make such confident assertions.

¹ Now the Spirit distinctly declares that in later times some will turn away from the faith, because they continuously give their attention to deceiving spirits and the things that demons teach ² through the pretensions of false teachers, men with seared consciences, ³ who forbid people to marry and teach them to abstain from certain sorts of food which God created for the grateful enjoyment of those who have faith and a clear knowledge of the truth.

³ If anyone teaches different doctrines and refuses to agree with the wholesome messages of our Lord Jesus Christ, the teaching that is in accordance with true religion, ⁴ he is a conceited ignoramus with a morbid appetite for discussions and controversies which lead to envy, quarreling, abuse, base suspicions, ⁵ and perpetual friction between people who are depraved in mind and deprived of truth, who imagine that religion is only a means of gain.

¹⁷ and their message will spread like a cancer; men like Hymenaeus and Philetus, ¹⁸ who have missed the truth by saying that the resurrection has already taken place, are undermining some people's faith. ¹⁹ But God's foundation stands unshaken, with these inscriptions: "The Lord knows the people who belong to Him" and "Everyone who bears the name of the Lord must abstain from evil."

⁵ keeping up the forms of religion but not giving expression to its power. Avoid such people. ⁶ For some of them practice going into people's houses and capturing weak and silly women who are overwhelmed with the weight of their sins, who are easily led about by all sorts of evil impulses, ⁷ who are always trying to learn but never able to come to a full knowledge of the truth. ⁸ Just as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, these people resist the truth, for they are depraved in mind and so counterfeits in the faith. ⁹ But they will not make any more progress, for their folly will be evident to everybody, as theirs was.

³ For a time will come when they will not listen to wholesome teaching, but to gratify their own evil desires will surround themselves with teachers who teach to gratify their own evil desires, because their ears are itching so to be tickled, ⁴ and they will cease to listen to the truth and will turn to listen to myths.

¹⁰ For there are many insubordinate people, mere talkers with nothing to say, but deceivers of their own minds, especially those of the circumcision party, ¹¹ whose mouths must be stopped, for they upset whole families by teaching things they ought not to think, for the sake of dishonest gain.

¹ Now there were false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you too, who will insidiously introduce destructive heresies and deny the Master who has bought them, thus bringing on themselves swift destruction. ² Many people will follow their immoral ways, and because of them the true Way will be abused, ³ In their greed they will exploit you with messages manufactured by themselves. From of old their condemnation has not been idle and their destruction has not been slumbering.

¹⁸ Little children, it is the last hour, just as you have heard that Antichrist is Coming, and already many Antichrists have appeared; so we may be sure that it is the last hour.

¹ Dearly beloved, stop believing every so-called spiritual utterance, but keep testing them to see whether they come from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

⁷ For many impostors have gone out into the world, men who do not own that Jesus Christ continues to come in human form. A person like this is the impostor and the Antichrist. ⁸ Look out for yourselves, so as not to lose what we have worked for, but so as to get your full reward. ⁹ No one has God, who goes too far and fails to stay by the teaching of Christ. Whoever stays by this teaching has the Father and the Son. ¹⁰ If anyone continuously comes to see you without bringing this teaching, you must stop welcoming him to your house and stop bidding him good morning, ¹¹ For whoever keeps on bidding him good morning is sharing in his wicked works.

⁴ For certain persons have sneaked in -- their doom was written down long ago -- godless persons, who turn the favor of our God into an excuse for licentiousness, and disown our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

² "I know what you have done; your hard work and patient endurance; that you cannot tolerate wicked persons; that you have tested those who claimed to be apostles although they were not, and have found them to be imposters,

⁹ "I know your pressing trouble and poverty, but still you are rich; I know how you are abused by those who claim to be Jews although they are not, but are only a synagogue of Satan.

²⁰ But I hold it against you that you are tolerating that Jezebel of a woman who claims to be a prophetess, and by her teaching is misleading my slaves to practice immorality and to eat meat that has been sacrificed to idols.

²⁰ Then the wild beast was captured and with him the false prophet who performed wonders in his presence, by which he led astray those who let the mark of the wild beast be put on them and worshiped his statue. Both of them were hurled alive into the fiery lake that burns with brimstone.
