⁶ Now the fact is, religion with contentment is a means of great gain.

³² For the heathen are greedily pursuing all such things; and surely your heavenly Father well knows that you need them all. ³³ But as your first duty keep on looking for His standard of doing right, and for His will, and then all these things will be yours besides.

¹⁴ Then some soldiers too were asking him, "What ought we too to do?" So he said to them, "Never extort money from anyone, never make a false accusation, and always be satisfied with your wages."

³¹ But continue to seek His will, and these things will be yours besides. ³² Stop being afraid, my little flock, for your Father has gladly chosen to give you the kingdom.

³ And not only that, but this too: let us continue exulting in our sufferings, for we know that suffering produces endurance, ⁴ and endurance, tested character, and tested character, hope, ⁵ and hope never disappoints us; for through the Holy Spirit that has been given us, God's love has flooded our hearts.

²⁸ Yes, we know that all things go on working together for the good of those who keep on loving God, who are called in accordance with God's purpose.

¹⁷ For this slight and momentary sorrow continues to accumulate for me a solid and eternal glory far beyond any comparison,

²¹ For to me living means Christ and dying brings gain.

¹¹ Not that I refer to any personal want, for I have learned to be contented in whatever circumstances I am. ¹² I know how to live in lowly circumstances and I know how to live in plenty. I have learned the secret, in all circumstances, of either getting a full meal or of going hungry, of living in plenty or being in want. ¹³ I can do anything through Him who gives me strength.

⁸ Physical training, indeed, is of some service, but religion is of service for everything, for it contains a promise for the present life as well as the future.

⁸ If we have food and clothes we will be satisfied.

⁵ You must have a turn of mind that is free from avarice; you must be content with what you have, for God Himself has said, "I will never fail you, I will never forsake you."
