¹⁷ Elders who do their duties well should be considered as deserving twice the salary they get especially those who keep on toiling in preaching and teaching.

³⁷ Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest is plentiful, but the reapers are scarce. ³⁸ So pray the Lord of the harvest to send out reapers to His harvest field."

²⁵ Remember, I have told you beforehand.

¹ After this the Lord appointed seventy others and sent them on before Him, two by two, to every town or place which He was going to visit. ² So He was saying to them: "The harvest is plentiful, but the reapers are scarce. So pray the Lord of the harvest to send out reapers to His harvest-field.

⁷ Stay on at the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the workman deserves his support. Do not keep moving about from house to house.

⁴² And the Lord said, "Who then is the faithful, thoughtful manager whom his master will put in charge of his household, to give out the supplies at the proper time?

³⁸ I have sent you to reap a harvest which you have not labored to make. Other men have labored, but you have reaped the results of their labors."

³⁰ And this they did and sent it to the elders by Barnabas and Saul.

³⁵ In everything I showed you that by working hard like this we must help those who are weak, and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, 'It makes one happier to give than to get.'"

¹⁰ They also honored us with many presents, and when we set sail, they supplied us with everything that we needed.

⁸ or of one who encourages others, in the field of encouragement; or one who gives his money, with liberality; or one who leads others, with earnestness; or one who does deeds of charity, with cheerfulness.

²⁷ They certainly were delighted to do it, and they really are under obligation to them, for if the heathen peoples have shared in their spiritual blessings, they ought to serve them in material blessings.

¹² Remember me to Tryphaena and Tryphosa, who continued to toil in the work of the Lord. Remember me to my dear friend Persis, who toiled so hard in the work of the Lord.

⁹ for we belong to God as His fellow-workers; you belong to God as His field to be tilled, as His building to be built.

⁵ It cannot be that we have no right to take a Christian wife about with us, can it, as well as the rest of the apostles and the Lord's brothers, and Cephas? ⁶ Or is it Barnabas and I alone who have no right to refrain from working for a living? ⁷ What soldier ever goes to war at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat any of its grapes? Who shepherds a flock and does not drink any of the milk the flock produces? ⁸ I am not saying this only by way of human illustrations, am I? Does not the law say so too? ⁹ For in the law of Moses it is written, "You must not muzzle an ox that is treading out your grain." Is it that God is concerned about oxen only? ¹⁰ Is He not really speaking on our behalf? Yes, indeed, this law was written on our behalf, because the plowman ought to plow and the thresher ought to thresh, in the hope of sharing in the crop. ¹¹ If we have sown the spiritual seed for you, is it too great for us to reap a material support from you? ¹² If others share this right with you, have we not a stronger claim? Yet, we have never used this right; no, we keep on bearing everything, to keep from hindering the progress of the good news of Christ. ¹³ Do you not know that those who do the work about the temple get their living from the temple, and those who constantly attend on the altar share its offerings? ¹⁴ Just so the Lord has issued orders that those who preach the good news shall get their living out of it.

¹⁰ But by God's unmerited favor I have become what I am, and His unmerited favor shown to me was not bestowed for nothing, for I have toiled more extensively than any of them, and yet it was not I but God's unmerited favor working with me.

¹⁶ I beg you to put yourselves under leaders like these, and under anyone who cooperates with you, and labors hard.

¹ As God's fellow-worker I beg you too not to accept God's favor and throw it away.

⁶ Those who are taught the truth should share all their goods with the man who teaches them.

¹⁶ to hold up the message of life. That will give me ground for boasting on the day of Christ, because neither my career nor my labor has been a failure.

²⁹ So give him a hearty Christian welcome and hold in honor men like him,

³ And I solemnly beg you, my true comrade, keep on cooperating with those two women, because they shared with me the struggle in spreading the good news, together with Clement and the rest of my fellow-workers, whose names are in the book of life.

¹² We beg you, brothers, to practice showing respect to those who labor among you, who are your leaders in the Lord's work, and who advise you; ¹³ continue to hold them in the highest esteem for the sake of the work they do. Practice living at peace with one another.

⁵ (if a man does not know how to manage his own house, how can he take care of a church of God?).

⁶ If you continue to put these things before the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, ever feeding your own soul on the truths of the faith and of the fine teaching which you have followed.

¹⁰ To this end we are toiling and struggling, because we have fixed our hope on the living God, who is the Saviour of all mankind, especially of believers.

¹⁶ Make it your habit to pay close attention to yourself and your teaching. Persevere in these things, for if you do you will save both yourself and those who listen to you.

³ Always care for widows who are really dependent.

⁶ The toiling farmer ought to be the first to share the crop.

² preach the message, stay at it in season and out of season; convince, reprove, exhort people with perfect patience as a teacher.

⁷ You must not forget your former leaders, for it was they who brought you the message of God. Consider how they closed their lives; imitate their faith.

¹⁷ Continue to obey and to be submissive to your leaders, for they are ever watching in defense of your souls, as men who will have to give account of their trust. Treat them in this way, so that they may work with joy and not with grief.

²⁴ Remember us to all your leaders and to all the Christians. The Christians from Italy wish to be remembered to you.
