¹³ Was then that which is good, made death unto me? By no means. But sin that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.

²⁰ Moreover, the law entered, that the offence might abound: But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

⁸ But sin taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin [is] dead. ⁹ For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died. ¹⁰ And the commandment which [was] to life, I found [to be] unto death. ¹¹ For sin taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.

³ What the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son, in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin condemned sin in the flesh:

²¹ [Is] the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law,

¹³ Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God; for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man. ¹⁴ But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. ¹⁵ Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
