¹¹ If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, for under it the people received the law, what further need that another priest should rise after the order Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?

²¹ I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness [be] by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

³ Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world:

⁹ But now after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?

¹⁰ And ye are compleat in him, who is the head of the whole church. ¹¹ In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ: ¹² Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with [him] through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. ¹³ And you being dead in your sins, by the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickned, having forgiven us all our trespasses, ¹⁴ Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances, that was against us, that was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross: ¹⁵ And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. ¹⁶ Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holy day, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath. ¹⁷ Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body [is] of Christ.

⁶ As he saith also again in another [place], Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec,

¹⁰ Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.

²⁰ Whither the forerunner is for us entered, Jesus Christ; made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

¹⁵ And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,

¹⁷ For he testifieth, Thou [art] a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. ¹⁸ For there is verily a disanulling of the commandment that was introduced: for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof. ¹⁹ For the law made nothing perfect, but the introduction of a better hope [did]; by the which we draw nigh unto God.

²¹ But this with an oath, by him that said unto him, The Lord sware and will not repent, Thou [art] a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

⁷ For if that first had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for a second.

¹⁰ For this [is] my covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people. ¹¹ And they shall not teach every man his [fellow] citizen, and every man [his] brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shalt know me, from the least to the greatest. ¹² For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more. ¹³ In that he saith, A new [covenant], he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old, [is] ready to vanish away.

¹ For the law having a shadow of good things to come, can never with those sacrifices which they offer year by year continually, purify the commers thereunto. ² For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged, should have had no more conscience of sins. ³ But in those a remembrance [is] made of sins every year. ⁴ For [it is] not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats, should take away sins.
