²⁷ Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works?

¹⁶ He that believeth and is baptized, shall be saved; but he that believeth not, shall be damned.

³² Wherefore? Because they sought it, not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law: for they stumbled at that stumbling stone;

⁵ For Moses describeth the righteousness which is by the law, The man who doth these things shall live by them.

⁶ But if by grace, then it is no more of works: else grace is no longer grace. And if it be of works, then it is no more grace; else work is no longer work.

⁹ And he spake this parable to certain who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and despised others. ¹⁰ Two men went up into the temple to pray, the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. ¹¹ The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed thus, God I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, rapacious, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. ¹² I fast twice in the week: I give tythes of all that I possess. ¹³ And the publican standing afar off, would not so much as lift up his eyes to heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. ¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for every one that exalteth himself shall be humbled, and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

³⁶ He that believeth on the Son, hath everlasting life: but he that obeyeth not the Son, shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him.

¹⁷ Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law,

²³ Thou that gloriest in the law, dost thou by transgressing the law dishonour God?

¹⁹ Now we know that whatsoever the law saith, it saith to them that are under the law; that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world be found guilty before God.

² If Abraham was justified by works, he hath whereof to glory: but he hath not in the sight of God.

²¹ I find then a law, that when I would do good, evil is present with me.

²³ But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and captivating me to the law of sin, which is in my members.

²⁵ Who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God, through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then I myself with my mind serve the law of God, but with my flesh the law of sin.

² For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath freed me from the law of sin and death.

¹¹ our father Isaac, The children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil (that the purpose of God according to election might stand not of works, but of him that called,) It was said to her, The elder shall serve the younger.

²⁹ But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who is made by God unto us wisdom, ³⁰ and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: ³¹ That as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

⁷ For who maketh thee to differ from another? And what hast thou which thou hast not received? But if thou hast received it, why dost thou boast, as if thou hadst not received it?

¹⁶ and not sinners of the Gentiles, Even we (knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ) have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law; because by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.

²² But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.

⁸ For by grace ye are saved through faith; and this not of yourselves: ⁹ it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. ¹⁰ For we are his workmanship, created through Christ Jesus unto good works, which God had before prepared, that we might walk in them.

¹¹ And this is the testimony, that God hath given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. ¹² He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
