³⁷ And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus to him, Go and do thou likewise.

²⁸ but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.

²³ Wo to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites; for ye pay tithe of mint, and anise, and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to have neglected the others.

³² For if ye love them that love you, what thank have ye? For sinners also love those that love them. ³³ And if ye do good to them that do good to you, what thank have ye? For even sinners do the same. ³⁴ And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? For even sinners lend to sinners, to receive as much again. ³⁵ But love ye your enemies, and do good and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be sons of the Highest; for he is kind to the unthankful and the evil. ³⁶ Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

¹⁵ For I have given you an example, that ye also may do as I have done to you. ¹⁶ Verily, verily I say unto you, the servant is not greater than his Lord, neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. ¹⁷ If ye know these things, happy are ye, if ye do them. I speak not of you all:

⁹ For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.

¹⁸ ye may be able to comprehend with all saints, what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height, And to know the love of Christ which passeth knowledge, ¹⁹ that ye may be filled with all the fulness of God.

² as Christ also hath loved us, and given himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God of a sweet-smelling savour.

⁹ But we see Jesus crowned with glory and honour, for the suffering of death, who was made a little lower than the angels, that by the grace of God he might taste death for every man. ¹⁰ For it became him for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the captain of their salvation through sufferings. ¹¹ For both he that sanctifieth, and all they that are sanctified, are of one; for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren, Saying, I will declare thy name to my brethren; ¹² in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee. ¹³ And again, I will put my trust in him: And again, Behold I and the children whom God hath given me. ¹⁴ Since then the children partake of flesh and blood, he also himself in like manner took part of the same, that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil: ¹⁵ And deliver them, as many as through fear of death, were all their life-time subject to bondage.

²¹ For even hereunto are ye called; for Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that ye might follow his steps:

¹⁶ Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. ¹⁷ But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? ¹⁸ My beloved children, let us love not in word, neither in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

²³ And this is his commandment, that we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. ²⁴ And he that keepeth his commandments, abideth in him, and he in him: and hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

¹⁰ Herein is love; not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son, a propitiation for our sins. ¹¹ Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

⁵ And from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the first begotten from the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth:
