²⁶ He said to him, What is written in the law?

⁵ For Moses describeth the righteousness which is by the law, The man who doth these things shall live by them.

¹⁹ Now we know that whatsoever the law saith, it saith to them that are under the law; that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world be found guilty before God.

¹⁴ For if they who are of the law are heirs, faith is made void, and the promise of no effect. ¹⁵ Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression. ¹⁶ Therefore it is of faith, that it might be of grace, that the promise might be firm to all the seed; not only to that which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all, (As it is written,

¹² Now the law is not of faith; but the man that doeth them, shall live by them. ¹³ Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: (for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:

²¹ Is then the law against the promises of God? God forbid. But if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness would have been by the law. ²² But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
