⁶ Therefore let us not sleep as the others, but let us awake and keep awake.

²⁵ But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed darnel amidst the wheat, and went away.

⁴² Watch therefore; for ye know not what hour your Lord cometh.

⁵ While the bridegroom delayed, they all slumbered and slept.

¹³ Watch therefore; for ye know not the day nor the hour.

³⁸ Then saith he to them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.

⁴⁰ And he cometh to the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith to Peter, What! Could ye not watch with me one hour? ⁴¹ Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing; but the flesh is weak.

³⁴ For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the porter to watch. ³⁵ Watch ye therefore; for ye know not when the master of the house cometh; at evening, or at midnight, or at cock-crowing, or in the morning:

³⁷ And what I say to you, I say to all, Watch.

³⁷ And he cometh and findeth them sleeping, and saith to Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? ³⁸ Couldest thou not watch one hour? Watch and pray, lest ye enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

³¹ Therefore watch, remembering that for three years, I ceased not to warn every one, night and day, with tears.

¹¹ And do this, knowing the season, that it is high time now to awake out of sleep; for salvation is nearer to us now, then when we first believed. ¹² The night is far spent; the day is at hand, let us therefore put off the works of darkness, and put on the armour of light. ¹³ Let us walk decently, as in the day; not in banqueting and drunken entertainments, not in uncleannesses and wantonness, not in strife and envy. ¹⁴ But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the desires thereof.

⁵ Let your gentleness be known to all men; the Lord is at hand.

³⁷ Happy are those servants, whom the Lord, when he cometh, shall find watching; verily I say to you, that he will gird himself, and make them sit down to table, and will come forth and serve them.

³⁹ And this ye know, that if the master of the house had known, what hour the thief would have come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broke open.

³⁶ Watch ye therefore and pray always, that ye may be counted worthy to escape all these things which will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

⁴⁶ and found them sleeping for sorrow, And said to them, Why sleep ye? Rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.

³⁴ Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.

¹³ Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, acquit yourselves like men; be strong.

¹⁴ Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

¹⁸ which is the word of God, Praying alway by the Spirit with all prayer and supplication, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints,

² Continue in prayer, and watch therein with thanksgiving:

⁸ But let us who are of the day keep awake, having put on the breast-plate of faith and love, and for an helmet the hope of salvation.

⁹ Likewise that women adorn themselves in decent apparel, with modesty and sobriety, not with curled hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly raiment,

¹⁵ Yet she shall be saved in child-bearing, if they continue in faith, and love, and holiness, with sobriety.

² A bishop therefore must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, prudent, of good behaviour, hospitable, apt to teach;

¹¹ In like manner their wives must be serious, not slanderers, vigilant, faithful in all things.

⁵ But watch thou in all things, endure affliction, do the work of an evangelist, fulfil thy ministry.

⁶ The young men likewise exhort to be discreet, In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works,

¹² Teaching us, that, having renounced ungodliness and all wordly desires, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present world,

¹³ Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be watchful and hope perfectly for the grace that is brought you by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

⁷ But the end of all things is at hand; be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.

⁸ for your adversary the devil, walketh about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour:

² Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, which are ready to die; for I have not found thy works compleat before my God.

¹⁵ (Behold I come as a thief. Happy is he that watcheth and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame.)
