¹⁸ For the doctrine of the cross is indeed to them that perish foolishness; but to us who are saved, it is the power of God.

¹² For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder both of the soul and spirit, both of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

⁴⁷ Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added daily to the church those who were saved.

⁴¹ Behold ye despisers, and wonder and perish. For I work a work in your days, a work which ye will in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you.

² For I determined not to know any thing among you save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

¹⁴ But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit; for they are foolishness to him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God; as it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.

² By which also ye are saved, if ye retain what I preached to you, unless ye have believed in vain.

¹⁵ For we are to God a sweet odour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish: ¹⁶ To these an odour of death unto death, but to those an odour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?

³ But if our gospel also is veiled, it is veiled to them that perish;

⁴ (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the throwing down of strong-holds.)

¹² As many as desire to make a fair shew in the flesh, these constrain you to be circumcised: only lest they should suffer persecution for the cross of Christ. ¹³ For neither they who are circumcised keep the law; but they desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh. ¹⁴ But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world is crucified to me, and I unto the world.

⁵ For our gospel came not to you in word only, but also with power, and with the Holy Ghost, and with much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you, for your sake.

¹⁰ And with all deceiveableness of unrighteousness in them that perish, because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
