² Then said he to me, Son of man, these are the men that devise mischief, and give wicked counsel in this city:

⁸ And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go, and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.

¹⁶ Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked by the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all its borders, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.

² And behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. ³ His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow. ⁴ And for fear of him the keepers trembled and became as dead men. ⁵ And the angel answered and said to the women, Fear ye not: for I know that ye seek Jesus, who was crucified. ⁶ He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

¹⁷ But that it may spread no further among the people, let us strictly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name. ¹⁸ And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all, nor teach in the name of Jesus.

²⁷ And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them, ²⁸ Saying, Did we not strictly command you, that ye should not teach in this name? and behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us.
