⁵ Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands?

² Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.

¹⁶ And when the scribes and Pharisees saw him eating with publicans and sinners, they said to his disciples, How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners. ¹⁷ When Jesus heard it, he saith to them, They that are in health, have no need of a physician, but they that are sick; I came not to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance. ¹⁸ And the disciples of John, and of the Pharisees, used to fast: and they come, and say to him, Why do the disciples of John, and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?

² And when they saw some of his disciples eating bread with defiled (that is to say with unwashed) hands, they found fault. ³ For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands often eat not, holding the tradition of the elders.

²¹ And they are informed concerning thee, that thou teachest all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, saying, That they ought not to circumcise their children, neither to walk after the customs.

²⁴ Take them, and purify thyself with them, and be at charges with them, that they may shave their heads: and all may know that those things of which they were informed concerning thee, are nothing; but that thou thyself also walkest orderly, and keepest the law.

¹² And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham which he had being yet uncircumcised.

¹⁴ And profited in the Jews' religion above many my equals in my own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers.

⁶ Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received from us.

¹¹ For we hear that there are some who walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busy-bodies.
