¹⁸ Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower. ¹⁹ When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the way side.

²⁴ Another parable he proposed to them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened to a man who sowed good seed in his field: ²⁵ But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and departed. ²⁶ But when the blade had sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.

³⁷ He answered and said to them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man;

¹¹ Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. ¹² Those by the way side, are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.

¹ Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.

²³ For if any is a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like a man beholding his natural face in a glass: ²⁴ For he beholdeth himself, and goeth away, and immediately forgetteth what manner of man he was.
