The first said to him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. ¹⁹ And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused. ²⁰ And another said, I have married a wife: and therefore I cannot come. ²¹ So that servant came, and showed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry, said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind. ²² And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room. ²³ And the lord said to the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. ²⁴ For I say to you, that none of those men who were invited, shall taste my supper. ²⁵ And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said to them, ²⁶ If any man cometh to me, and hateth not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. ²⁷ And whoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. ²⁸ For which of you intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he hath sufficient to finish it? ²⁹ Lest perhaps after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, ³⁰ Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish. ³¹ Or what king going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand? ³² Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an embassy, and desireth conditions of peace. ³³ So likewise, whoever he is of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple. ³⁴ Salt is good: but if the salt hath lost its savor, with what shall it be seasoned? ³⁵ It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill, but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

³² The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him.

⁴ (62:3)How long will ye imagine mischief against a man? ye shall be slain all of you: as a bowing wall shall ye be, and as a tottering fence.

⁵ (64:4)That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not. ⁶ (64:5)They encourage themselves in an evil matter: they commune of laying snares privily; they say, Who will see them?

⁷ For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.

²⁰ For the terrible one is brought to naught, and the scoffer is consumed, and all that watch for iniquity are cut off: ²¹ That make a man an offender for a word, and lay a snare for him that reproveth in the gate, and turn aside the just for a thing of naught.

¹⁰ For I heard the defaming of many, fear on every side. Report, say they, and we will report it. All my familiars watched for my halting, saying, Perhaps he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him. ¹¹ But the LORD is with me as a mighty terrible one: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail: they shall be greatly ashamed; for they shall not prosper: their everlasting confusion shall never be forgotten.

² And they watched him, to see whether he would heal him on the sabbath; that they might accuse him.

⁷ And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, to see whether he would heal on the sabbath; that they might find an accusation against him.

³⁴ The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold, a gluttonous man, and a wine-bibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. ³⁵ But wisdom is justified by all her children. ³⁶ And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down at table.

³⁷ And as he was speaking, a certain Pharisee besought him to dine with him: and he went in, and sat down to eat.

⁵³ And as he said these things to them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently, and to solicit him to speak of many things; ⁵⁴ Laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something from his mouth, that they might accuse him.

²⁰ And they watched him, and sent forth spies, who should feign themselves just men, that they might take hold of his words, that so they might deliver him to the power and authority of the governor.

¹ There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:

³⁴ Then stood up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little time.

¹⁹ For though I am free from all men, yet I have made myself servant to all, that I might gain the more. ²⁰ And to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; ²¹ To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law. ²² To the weak I became as weak, that I might gain the weak: I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.

² But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him, Behold, thy disciples do that which it is not lawful to do on the sabbath.

¹⁰ And behold, there was a man who had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath? that they might accuse him.

³⁵ Then one of them who was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,

⁴ And he saith to them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? but they held their peace.

⁹ Then said Jesus to them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath-days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?

⁴⁴ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them. ⁴⁵ Then answered one of the lawyers, and said to him, Master, thus saying, thou reproachest us also.

¹⁴ And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the sabbath, and said to the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath. ¹⁵ The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering? ¹⁶ And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, to be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?

²³ If a man on the sabbath receiveth circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have restored a man to sound health on the sabbath?

²⁵ The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or from men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, if we shall say, From heaven; he will say to us, Why then did ye not believe him? ²⁶ But if we shall say, From men; we fear the people: for all hold John as a prophet. ²⁷ And they answered Jesus, and said, We cannot tell. And he said to them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.

⁴⁶ And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man, from that day forth, ask him any more questions.

⁴ If thou shalt meet thy enemy's ox or his ass going astray, thou shalt surely bring it back to him again. ⁵ If thou shalt see the ass of him that hateth thee lying under his burden, and wouldest forbear to help him, thou shalt surely help with him.

²⁴ This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the most High, which is come upon my lord the king:

¹¹ And he said to them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it shall fall into a pit on the sabbath, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out? ¹² How much then is a man better than a sheep? wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.

¹⁵ The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?

¹⁷ And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

²⁶ And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marveled at his answer, and held their peace.

⁴⁰ And after that, they durst not ask him any question at all.

¹⁵ For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.

¹⁰ And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spoke.

¹² And Samson said to them, I will now propose a riddle to you: if ye can certainly declare it me within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you thirty sheets and thirty change of garments:

¹ Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?

² Son of man, put forth a riddle, and speak a parable to the house of Israel;

³⁴ All these things Jesus spoke to the multitude in parables; and without a parable he spoke not to them:

⁶ And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,

³⁸ And he said to them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, who love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the market-places, ³⁹ And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts:

⁴³ Woe to you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets.

³ Let nothing be done through strife or vain glory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

⁶ Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men: ⁷ For better it is that it be said to thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldst be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thy eyes have seen.

⁶ So Haman came in. And the king said to him, What shall be done to the man whom the king delighteth to honor? Now Haman thought in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honor more than to myself? ⁷ And Haman answered the king, For the man whom the king delighteth to honor, ⁸ Let the royal apparel be brought which the king useth to wear, and the horse that the king rideth upon, and the crown royal which is set upon his head: ⁹ And let this apparel and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king's most noble princes, that they may array the man whom the king delighteth to honor, and bring him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaim before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delighteth to honor. ¹⁰ Then the king said to Haman, Make haste, and take the apparel and the horse, as thou hast said, and do even so to Mordecai the Jew, that sitteth at the king's gate: let nothing fail of all that thou hast spoken. ¹¹ Then Haman took the apparel and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and brought him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaimed before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delighteth to honor. ¹² And Mordecai came again to the king's gate. But Haman hasted to his house mourning, and having his head covered.

² Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thy heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a god, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou art a man, and not God, though thou settest thy heart as the heart of God: ³ Behold, thou art wiser than Daniel; there is no secret that they can hide from thee: ⁴ With thy wisdom and with thy understanding thou hast gained for thee riches, and hast gained gold and silver into thy treasures: ⁵ By thy great wisdom and by thy traffick hast thou increased thy riches, and thy heart is lifted up because of thy riches: ⁶ Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast set thy heart as the heart of God; ⁷ Behold, therefore I will bring strangers upon thee, the terrible of the nations: and they shall draw their swords against the beauty of thy wisdom, and they shall defile thy brightness. ⁸ They shall bring thee down to the pit, and thou shalt die the deaths of them that are slain in the midst of the seas. ⁹ Wilt thou yet say before him that slayeth thee, I am God? but thou shalt be a man, and no god, in the hand of him that slayeth thee. ¹⁰ Thou shalt die the deaths of the uncircumcised by the hand of strangers: for I have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD.

³⁰ The king spoke, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honor of my majesty? ³¹ While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom hath departed from thee. ³² And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou shalt know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will. ³³ The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and ate grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws. ³⁴ And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honored him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation:

¹⁷ And Samuel said, When thou wast little in thy own sight, wast thou not made the head of the tribes of Israel, and the LORD anointed thee king over Israel?

³³ The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom: and before honor is humility.

¹⁴ The sons also of them that afflicted thee shall come bending to thee; and all they that despised thee shall bow themselves down at the soles of thy feet; and they shall call thee, The city of the LORD, The Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

⁹ Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.

²⁹ When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is exaltation; and he shall save the humble person.

¹¹ The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be abased, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.

¹⁷ And the loftiness of man shall be abased, and the haughtiness of men shall be made low: and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day.

¹⁵ For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

¹² And whoever shall exalt himself, shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself, shall be exalted.

⁵¹ He hath shown strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.

¹⁴ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

⁶ But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.

¹⁰ Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will lift you up.

⁵ Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves to the elder. Yes, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

²⁰ The poor is hated even by his own neighbor: but the rich hath many friends.

¹⁶ He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich, shall surely come to want.

⁵ Speak to all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh month, even those seventy years, did ye at all fast to me, even to me? ⁶ And when ye ate, and when ye drank, did ye not eat for yourselves, and drink for yourselves? ⁷ Should ye not hear the words which the LORD hath cried by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, and her cities around her, when men inhabited the south and the plain?

⁴⁶ For if ye love them who love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?

¹ Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen by them: otherwise ye have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. ² Therefore, when thou doest thy alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do, in the synagogues, and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Verily, I say to you, they have their reward. ³ But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: ⁴ That thy alms may be in secret; and thy Father who seeth in secret, himself will reward thee openly.

¹⁶ Moreover, when ye fast, be not as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear to men to fast. Verily, I say to you, they have their reward. ¹⁷ But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thy head, and wash thy face; ¹⁸ That thou mayest not appear to men to fast, but to thy Father, who is in secret: and thy Father, who seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

⁵³ He hath filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he hath sent away empty.

³² For if ye love them who love you, what thanks have ye? for sinners also love those that love them. ³³ And if ye do good to them who do good to you, what thanks have ye? for sinners also do even the same. ³⁴ And if ye lend to them from whom ye hope to receive, what thanks have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much in return. ³⁵ But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind to the unthankful and to the evil. ³⁶ Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

¹ My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons. ² For if there come into your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment; ³ And ye have respect to him that weareth the gay clothing, and say to him, Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my footstool: ⁴ Are ye not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts? ⁵ Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him? ⁶ But ye have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment-seats?

²⁹ And the Levite, (because he hath no part nor inheritance with thee) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, who are within thy gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thy hand which thou doest.

¹¹ And thou shalt rejoice before the LORD thy God, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy man-servant, and thy maid-servant, and the Levite that is within thy gates, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are among you, in the place which the LORD thy God hath chosen to place his name there.

¹⁴ And thou shalt rejoice in thy feast, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy man-servant, and thy maid-servant, and the Levite, the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are within thy gates:

¹² When thou hast made an end of tithing all the tithes of thy increase the third year, which is the year of tithing, and hast given it to the Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, that they may eat within thy gates, and be filled: ¹³ Then thou shalt say before the LORD thy God, I have brought away the hallowed things out of my house, and also have given them to the Levite, and to the stranger, to the fatherless, and to the widow, according to all thy commandments which thou hast commanded me: I have not transgressed thy commandments, neither have I forgotten them:

¹⁹ And he dealt among all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, as well to the women as men, to every one a cake of bread, and a good piece of flesh, and a flagon of wine. So all the people departed every one to his house.

²⁴ For Hezekiah king of Judah gave to the congregation a thousand bullocks and seven thousand sheep; and the princes gave to the congregation a thousand bullocks and ten thousand sheep: and a great number of priests sanctified themselves.

¹⁰ Then he said to them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions to them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy to our Lord: neither be ye sad; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.

¹² And all the people went their way to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great mirth, because they had understood the words that were declared to them.

¹³ The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.

¹⁶ If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail; ¹⁷ Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten of it; ¹⁸ (For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided her from my mother's womb;) ¹⁹ If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering; ²⁰ If his loins have not blessed me, and if he hath not been warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

⁹ Honor the LORD with thy substance, and with the first-fruits of all thy increase: ¹⁰ So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

³¹ He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoreth him hath mercy on the poor.

⁶ Give strong drink to him that is ready to perish, and wine to those that are of heavy hearts. ⁷ Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.

⁷ Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou shouldst bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou shouldst cover him; and that thou shouldst not hide thyself from thy own flesh?

¹⁰ And if thou shalt draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon day:

¹⁴ And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion towards them, and he healed their sick. ¹⁵ And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals. ¹⁶ But Jesus said to them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat. ¹⁷ And they say to him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes. ¹⁸ He said, Bring them hither to me. ¹⁹ And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and broke, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. ²⁰ And they all ate, and were satisfied: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full. ²¹ And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children.

³² Then Jesus called his disciples to him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way. ³³ And his disciples say to him, Whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to satisfy so great a multitude? ³⁴ And Jesus saith to them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few little fishes. ³⁵ And he commanded the multitude to sit on the ground. ³⁶ And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and broke them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. ³⁷ And they all ate and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that were left seven baskets full. ³⁸ And they that had eaten were four thousand men, besides women and children. ³⁹ And he sent away the multitude, and took a boat, and came into the borders of Magdala.

¹⁰ So those servants went out into the highways, and collected all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.

⁴¹ But rather give alms of such things as ye have; and behold, all things are clean to you.

²¹ So that servant came, and showed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry, said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.

⁴⁴ And all that believed were together, and had all things common; ⁴⁵ And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.

³⁴ Neither was there any among them that was in want: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, ³⁵ And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made to every man according as he had need.

³⁹ Then Peter arose, and went with them. When he had come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and showing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them.

¹³ Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality. ¹⁴ Bless them who persecute you; bless, and curse not. ¹⁵ Rejoice with them that rejoice, and weep with them that weep. ¹⁶ Be of the same mind one towards another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.

² A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

¹⁰ Well reported of for good works; if she hath brought up children, if she hath lodged strangers, if she hath washed the saints' feet, if she hath relieved the afflicted, if she hath diligently followed every good work.

⁸ But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;

⁷ For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.

² Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for by this some have entertained angels unawares.

¹⁷ He that hath pity upon the poor, lendeth to the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.

² And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. ³ And they that are wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

⁴ That thy alms may be in secret; and thy Father who seeth in secret, himself will reward thee openly.

⁴¹ He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet, shall receive a prophet's reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man, shall receive a righteous man's reward. ⁴² And whoever shall give to drink to one of these little ones, a cup of cold water only, in the name of a disciple, verily, I say to you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

³⁴ Then will the King say to them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: ³⁵ For I was hungry, and ye gave me food: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: ³⁶ Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came to me. ³⁷ Then will the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? ³⁸ When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? ³⁹ Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came to thee? ⁴⁰ And the king will answer and say to them, Verily I say to you, Inasmuch as ye have done it to one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it to me.

³⁵ But they who shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage. ³⁶ Neither can they die any more: for they are equal to the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.

²⁹ And shall come forth; they that have done good to the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, to the resurrection of damnation.

¹⁵ And have hope towards God, which they themselves also allow, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.

¹⁸ But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received from Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odor of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, well-pleasing to God. ¹⁹ But my God will supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

⁴ And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given to them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the testimony of Jesus, and for the word of God, and who had not worshiped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. ⁵ But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.

¹¹ And I say to you, that many shall come from the east and the west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.

¹⁰ And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready, went in with him to the marriage, and the door was shut.

³⁷ Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say to you, that he will gird himself, and make them to sit down to eat, and will come forth and serve them.

²⁹ And they will come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and will sit down in the kingdom of God.

³⁰ That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

²⁷ Labor not for the food which perisheth, but for that food which endureth to everlasting life, which the Son of man will give to you: for him hath God the Father sealed. ²⁸ Then said they to him, What shall we do, that we may work the works of God? ²⁹ Jesus answered and said to them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. ³⁰ They said therefore to him, What sign showest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work? ³¹ Our fathers ate manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat. ³² Then Jesus said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. ³³ For the bread of God is he who cometh down from heaven, and giveth life to the world. ³⁴ Then said they to him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. ³⁵ And Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me, shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me, shall never thirst. ³⁶ But I said to you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not. ³⁷ All that the Father giveth me, shall come to me; and him that cometh to me, I will in no wise reject. ³⁸ For I came down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him that sent me. ³⁹ And this is the Father's will who hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me, I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. ⁴⁰ And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one who seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. ⁴¹ The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven. ⁴² And they said, Is not this Jesus the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven? ⁴³ Jesus therefore answered and said to them, Murmur not among yourselves. ⁴⁴ No man can come to me, except the Father who hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. ⁴⁵ It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught from God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned from the Father, cometh to me. ⁴⁶ Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he who is from God, he hath seen the Father. ⁴⁷ Verily, verily, I say to you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. ⁴⁸ I am that bread of life. ⁴⁹ Your fathers ate manna in the wilderness, and are dead. ⁵⁰ This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat of it, and not die. ⁵¹ I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man shall eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. ⁵² The Jews therefore contended among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? ⁵³ Then Jesus said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. ⁵⁴ Whoever eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. ⁵⁵ For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. ⁵⁶ He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him. ⁵⁷ As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. ⁵⁸ This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers ate manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever. ⁵⁹ These things he said in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.

⁹ And he saith to me, Write, Blessed are they who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith to me, These are the true sayings of God.

¹ Wisdom hath built her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars: ² She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table.

¹ I have come into my garden, my sister, my spouse: I have gathered my myrrh, with my spice; I have eaten my honey-comb with my honey; I have drank my wine with my milk: eat, O friends; drink, yes, drink abundantly, O beloved.

⁶ And on this mountain will the LORD of hosts make to all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined. ⁷ And he will destroy on this mountain the face of the covering cast over all people, and the vail that is spread over all nations.

¹ Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. ² Why do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labor for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently to me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. ³ Incline your ear, and come to me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David. ⁴ Behold, I have given him for a witness to the people, a leader and commander to the people. ⁵ Behold, thou shalt call a nation that thou knowest not, and nations that knew not thee shall run to thee because of the LORD thy God, and for the Holy One of Israel, for he hath glorified thee. ⁶ Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: ⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return to the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

¹² Therefore they shall come and sing in the hight of Zion, and shall flow together to the goodness of the LORD, for wheat, and for wine, and for oil, and for the young of the flock and of the herd: and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all. ¹³ Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow. ¹⁴ And I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, saith the LORD.

⁷ And they of Ephraim shall be like a mighty man, and their heart shall rejoice as through wine: yes, their children shall see it, and be glad; their heart shall rejoice in the LORD.

² The kingdom of heaven is like to a certain king, who made a marriage for his son, ³ And sent his servants to call them that were invited to the wedding: and they would not come. ⁴ Again, he sent other servants, saying, Tell them who are invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come to the marriage. ⁵ But they made light of it, and went, one to his farm, another to his merchandise. ⁶ And the remnant took his servants, and treated them spitefully, and slew them. ⁷ But when the king heard of it, he was wroth: and he sent his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. ⁸ Then he saith to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they who were invited were not worthy. ⁹ Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, invite to the marriage. ¹⁰ So those servants went out into the highways, and collected all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. ¹¹ And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who had not a wedding-garment: ¹² And he saith to him, Friend, how camest thou in hither, not having a wedding-garment? And he was speechless. ¹³ Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into utter darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. ¹⁴ For many are called, but few are chosen.

¹⁵ And he said to them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. ¹⁶ He that believeth and is baptized, shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

¹⁶ Then said he to him, A certain man made a great supper, and invited many: ¹⁷ And sent his servant at supper-time, to say to them that were invited, Come, for all things are now ready. ¹⁸ And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said to him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. ¹⁹ And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused. ²⁰ And another said, I have married a wife: and therefore I cannot come. ²¹ So that servant came, and showed his lord these things. ²⁰ Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: If any man shall hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

¹⁷ And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth, say, Come. And let him that is thirsty, come: And whoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

¹ In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, ² And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. ³ For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. ⁴ And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his food was locusts and wild honey. ⁵ Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region about Jordan, ⁶ And were baptized by him in Jordan, confessing their sins. ⁷ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said to them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? ⁸ Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: ⁹ And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for our father: for I say to you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children to Abraham. ¹⁰ And now also the ax is laid to the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. ¹¹ I indeed baptize you with water to repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit, and with fire: ¹² Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his floor, and gather his wheat into the granary; but he will burn the chaff with unquenchable fire.

¹ And when he had called to him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness, and all manner of disease. ² Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; ³ Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alpheus, and Lebbeus, whose surname was Thaddeus; ⁴ Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

²⁷ All things are delivered to me by my Father; and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. ²⁸ Come to me, all ye that labor, and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. ²⁹ Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me: for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest to your souls.

³ And sent his servants to call them that were invited to the wedding: and they would not come. ⁴ Again, he sent other servants, saying, Tell them who are invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come to the marriage.

⁴ As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. ⁵ Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth; ⁶ And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.

¹ Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases. ² And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. ³ And he said to them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staffs, nor bag, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece. ⁴ And into whatever house ye enter, there abide, and thence depart. ⁵ And whoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them.

¹ After these things, the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city, and place, whither he himself would come. ² Therefore said he to them, The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth laborers into his harvest. ³ Go: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves. ⁴ Carry neither purse, nor sack, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way. ⁵ And into whatever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house. ⁶ And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again. ⁷ And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the laborer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. ⁸ And into whatever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you. ⁹ And heal the sick that are therein, and say to them, The kingdom of God is come nigh to you. ¹⁰ But into whatever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go out into the streets of the same, and say, ¹¹ Even the very dust of your city which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding, be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh to you. ¹² But I say to you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that city.

³⁷ In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirsteth, let him come to me, and drink.

³⁸ Then Peter said to them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. ³⁹ For the promise is to you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

²⁴ And all the prophets also from Samuel, and those that follow, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold these days. ²⁵ Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed. ²⁶ To you first, God having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.

²⁶ Men, brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.

³⁸ Be it known to you therefore, men, brethren, that through this man is preached to you the forgiveness of sins; ³⁹ And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.

¹⁸ And all things are from God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

¹² To whom he said, This is the rest with which ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear. ¹³ But the word of the LORD was to them, precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.

¹¹ And the vision of all is become to you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed: ¹² And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned.

⁴ Therefore I said, Surely these are poor; they are foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD, nor the judgment of their God. ⁵ I will go to the great men, and will speak to them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.

¹⁰ To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? Behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of the LORD is to them a reproach; they have no delight in it.

¹⁶ Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk in it, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk in it. ¹⁷ Also I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the trumpet. But they said, We will not hearken.

³⁸ For as in the days that were before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, ³⁹ And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away: so also will be the coming of the Son of man.

¹⁴ And that which fell among thorns are they, who, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.

²⁶ And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. ²⁷ They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark; and the flood came, and destroyed them all. ²⁸ Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot: they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; ²⁹ But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom, it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all: ³⁰ Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed. ³¹ In that day, he who shall be upon the house-top, and his furniture in the house, let him not come down to take it away: and he that is in the field, let him likewise not return back.

²⁴ And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly will they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!

⁴ The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men? ⁵ And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then believed ye him not?

¹¹ He came to his own, and his own received him not.

⁴⁰ And ye will not come to me, that ye may have life.

⁴⁵ But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spoke against those things which were uttered by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming. ⁴⁶ Then Paul and Barnabas became bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first be spoken to you: but seeing ye reject it, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.

⁵ And when Silas and Timothy had come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in spirit, and testified to the Jews, that Jesus was Christ. ⁶ And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said to them, Your blood be upon your own heads: I am clean: from henceforth I will go to the Gentiles.

²⁵ And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after Paul had spoken one word, Well spoke the Holy Spirit by Isaiah the prophet to our fathers, ²⁶ Saying, Go to this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive. ²⁷ For the heart of this people is become gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

⁹ But they that will be rich, fall into temptation, and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. ¹⁰ For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some have coveted, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

⁴ And they will turn away their ears from the truth, and will be turned to fables.

¹⁰ For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and hath departed to Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.

¹⁶ Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of food sold his birth-right.

¹⁵ Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man loveth the world, the love of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.

⁵ When a man hath newly taken a wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall he be charged with any business: but he shall be free at home one year, and shall cheer his wife which he hath taken.

²⁶ If any man cometh to me, and hateth not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. ²⁷ And whoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. ²⁸ For which of you intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he hath sufficient to finish it?

²⁹ And he said to them, Verily I say to you, there is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children for the sake of the kingdom of God, ³⁰ Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting.

²⁹ But this I say, brethren, The time is short. It remaineth, that both they that have wives, be as though they had none; ³⁰ And they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not; ³¹ And they that use this world, as not abusing it. For the fashion of this world passeth away.

³³ But he that is married, is anxious for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.

⁸ He raiseth the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD'S, and he hath set the world upon them.

¹² So David's young men turned their way, and went again, and came and told him all these sayings.

¹² Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

⁷ (38:6)I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.

⁷ He raiseth the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill; ⁸ That he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.

²⁰ Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets: ²¹ She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying, ²² How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge? ²³ Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit to you, I will make known to you my words. ²⁴ Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; ²⁵ But ye have set at naught all my counsel, and rejected my reproof:

² She standeth on the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths. ³ She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the entrance of the doors. ⁴ To you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man.

³ She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city, ⁴ Whoever is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him,

²³ Thy tacklings are loosed; they could not well strengthen their mast, they could not spread the sail: then is the prey of a great spoil divided; the lame take the prey.

⁶ Then shall the lame man leap as a hart, and the tongue of the dumb shall sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.

¹ Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in its broad places, if ye can find a man, if there is any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it.

⁷ And I will feed the flock of slaughter, even you, O poor of the flock. And I took to me two staffs; the one I called Beauty, and the other I called Bands; and I fed the flock.

¹¹ And it was broken in that day: and so the poor of the flock that waited upon me knew that it was the word of the LORD.

⁵ The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

²⁸ Come to me, all ye that labor, and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

¹² Then came his disciples, and said to him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended after they heard this saying?

³¹ So when his fellow-servants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told to their lord all that was done.

²⁸ But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go, work to-day in my vineyard. ²⁹ He answered and said, I will not; but afterward he repented, and went. ³⁰ And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not. ³¹ Which of the two did the will of his father? They say to him, The first. Jesus saith to them, Verily I say to you, that the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

⁷ But when the king heard of it, he was wroth: and he sent his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. ⁸ Then he saith to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they who were invited were not worthy.

²² Then Jesus answering, said to them, Go, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; that the blind see, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached. ²³ And blessed is he, to whom I shall not be a stumbling block.

¹⁰ And the apostles, when they had returned, told him all that they had done. And he took them, and went aside privately into a desert place, belonging to the city called Bethsaida.

¹³ But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:

²⁴ For I say to you, that none of those men who were invited, shall taste my supper.

⁴⁷ And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

³⁹ And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, who testified, He told me all that ever I did. ⁴⁰ So when the Samaritans had come to him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days. ⁴¹ And many more believed, because of his own word; ⁴² And said to the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.

⁴⁷ Then the Pharisees answered them, Are ye also deceived? ⁴⁸ Have any of the rulers, or of the Pharisees believed on him? ⁴⁹ But this people who know not the law are cursed.

³⁹ And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they who see not, may see; and that they who see, may be made blind.

⁴ Therefore they that were dispersed went every where preaching the word. ⁵ Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ to them. ⁶ And the people with one accord gave heed to those things which Philip spoke, hearing and seeing the miracles which he performed. ⁷ For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed.

³ How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by them that heard him;

²⁵ See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spoke on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven: ²⁶ Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.

¹⁷ Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.

⁵ Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath promised to them that love him?

¹ And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous, seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God. ² And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gained the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God. ³ And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvelous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints. ⁴ Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest. ⁵ And after that I looked, and behold, the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened: ⁶ And the seven angels came out of the temple, having the seven plagues, clothed in pure and white linen, and having their breasts girded with golden girdles. ⁷ And one of the four living beings gave to the seven angels seven golden vials full of the wrath of God, who liveth for ever and ever. ⁸ And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power; and no man was able to enter into the temple, till the seven plagues of the seven angels were fulfilled.

¹⁵ And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the wine-press of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.

⁶ The LORD executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed.

⁷ Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption.

² In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

¹ The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, ² Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom he had chosen: ³ To whom also he showed himself alive after his passion, by many infallible proofs, being seen by them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: ⁴ And being assembled with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard from me. ⁵ For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days hence. ⁶ When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel? ⁷ And he said to them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. ⁸ But ye shall receive power after the Holy Spirit is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses to me, both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and to the uttermost part of the earth. ⁹ And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

⁸ To me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;

⁹ For in him dwelleth all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.

⁵ For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; ⁶ Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

² And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

⁴ And I heard the number of them who were sealed: and there were sealed a hundred and forty four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel. ⁵ Of the tribe of Judah were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand. ⁶ Of the tribe of Asher were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Naphtalim were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed twelve thousand. ⁷ Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Isachar were sealed twelve thousand. ⁸ Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand. ⁹ After this I beheld, and lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and languages, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;

² And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn, I pray you, into your servant's house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night. ³ And he urged them greatly; and they turned in to him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.

³ He hath remembered his mercy and his truth towards the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

³ Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness: from the womb of the morning, thou hast the dew of thy youth.

¹⁰ And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.

²⁴ In that day shall Israel be the third with Egypt and with Assyria, even a blessing in the midst of the land: ²⁵ Whom the LORD of hosts will bless, saying, Blessed be Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel my inheritance.

¹³ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the great trumpet shall be blown, and they shall come who were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and the outcasts in the land of Egypt, and shall worship the LORD on the holy mount at Jerusalem.

⁵ And now, saith the LORD that formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob again to him, Though Israel be not gathered, yet shall I be glorious in the eyes of the LORD, and my God shall be my strength. ⁶ And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldst be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation to the end of the earth.

¹⁹ And I will set a sign among them, and I will send those that escape of them to the nations, to Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, that draw the bow, to Tubal, and Javan, to the isles afar off, that have not heard my fame, neither have seen my glory; and they shall declare my glory among the Gentiles. ²⁰ And they shall bring all your brethren for an offering to the LORD out of all nations upon horses, and in chariots, and in litters, and upon mules, and upon swift beasts, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, saith the LORD, as the children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of the LORD.

⁸ And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them towards the former sea, and half of them towards the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be. ⁹ And the LORD will be king over all the earth: in that day will there be one LORD, and his name one.

¹¹ For from the rising of the sun even to the setting of the same, my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered to my name, and a pure offering: for my name shall be great among the heathen, saith the LORD of hosts.

⁴³ Therefore I say to you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits of it.

⁹ Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, invite to the marriage. ¹⁰ So those servants went out into the highways, and collected all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.

¹⁹ Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. ²⁰ Teaching them to observe all things whatever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the world. Amen.

²⁹ But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is towards evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.

¹⁵ But the Lord said to him, Go, for he is a chosen vessel to me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel.

⁴⁴ While Peter was yet speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all them who heard the word. ⁴⁵ And they of the circumcision who believed, were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Spirit. ⁴⁶ For they heard them speak in languages and magnify God. Then answered Peter, ⁴⁷ Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, who have received the Holy Spirit as well as we? ⁴⁸ And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they requested him to tarry certain days.

¹⁸ When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance to life. ¹⁹ Now they who were dispersed upon the persecution that arose about Stephen traveled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but to the Jews only. ²⁰ And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who when they had come to Antioch, spoke to the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus. ²¹ And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned to the Lord.

⁴⁷ For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldst be for salvation to the ends of the earth. ⁴⁸ And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life, believed.

¹⁵ And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there: And she constrained us.

⁶ And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said to them, Your blood be upon your own heads: I am clean: from henceforth I will go to the Gentiles.

²¹ And he said to me, Depart: for I will send thee far hence to the Gentiles. ²² And they gave him audience to this word, and then lifted up their voices, and said, Away with such a man from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live.

¹⁸ To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them who are sanctified by faith that is in me. ¹⁹ Upon which O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision. ²⁰ But showed first to them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the region of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.

²⁸ Be it known therefore to you, that the salvation of God is sent to the Gentiles, and they will hear it.

¹⁸ But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world.

¹³ For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify my office: ¹⁴ If by any means I may incite to emulation them who are my flesh, and may save some of them.

⁹ And that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will confess to thee among the Gentiles, and sing to thy name. ¹⁰ And again he saith, Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people. ¹¹ And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; and laud him, all ye people. ¹² And again Isaiah saith, There shall be a root of Jesse, and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust.

¹⁹ For though I am free from all men, yet I have made myself servant to all, that I might gain the more. ²⁰ And to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law; ²¹ To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law. ²² To the weak I became as weak, that I might gain the weak: I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. ²³ And this I do for the gospel's sake, that I may be partaker of it with you.

¹¹ Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest to God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

²⁰ Now then we are embassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

¹ We then, as co-workers with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.

¹¹ Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; ¹² That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: ¹³ But now, in Christ Jesus, ye, who formerly were far off, are made nigh by the blood of Christ. ¹⁴ For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; ¹⁵ Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances: to make in himself of two one new man, so making peace; ¹⁶ And that he might reconcile both to God in one body by the cross, having by it slain the enmity: ¹⁷ And came and preached peace to you who were afar off, and to them that were nigh. ¹⁸ For through him we both have an access by one Spirit to the Father. ¹⁹ Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow-citizens with the saints, and of the household of God; ²⁰ And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner-stone; ²¹ In whom all the building fitly framed together, groweth to a holy temple in the Lord: ²² In whom ye also are built together, for a habitation of God through the Spirit.

²³ If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which hath been preached to every creature which is under heaven; of which I Paul am made a minister;

²⁸ Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.

² Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering and doctrine.

²⁴ Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; ²⁵ But ye have set at naught all my counsel, and rejected my reproof: ²⁶ I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; ²⁷ When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. ²⁸ Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: ²⁹ For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: ³⁰ They rejected my counsel: they despised all my reproof. ³¹ Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. ³² For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.

⁸ Then he saith to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they who were invited were not worthy.

³⁸ Behold, your house is left to you desolate. ³⁹ For I say to you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men have loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

³⁶ He that believeth on the Son, hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son, shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

²¹ Then said Jesus again to them, I am going away, and ye will seek me, and will die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.

²⁴ I said therefore to you, that ye will die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye will die in your sins.

⁴⁶ Then Paul and Barnabas became bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first be spoken to you: but seeing ye reject it, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.

¹ In the mean time, when there was gathered an innumerable multitude of people, so that they trod one upon another, he began to say to his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

²⁴ When the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they also took boats, and came to Capernaum, seeking for Jesus. ²⁵ And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither? ²⁶ Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say to you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye ate of the loaves, and were satisfied. ²⁷ Labor not for the food which perisheth, but for that food which endureth to everlasting life, which the Son of man will give to you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

³⁰ And he went in also to Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah, and served with him yet seven other years. ³¹ And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he made her fruitful: but Rachel was barren.

⁶ If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, who is as thy own soul, shall entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers; ⁷ Namely, of the gods of the people who are around you, nigh to thee, or far off from thee, from one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth; ⁸ Thou shalt not consent to him, nor hearken to him; neither shall thy eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him:

¹⁵ If a man shall have two wives, one beloved, and another hated, and they have borne him children, both the beloved and the hated; and if the first-born son be hers that was hated:

⁹ Who said to his father and to his mother, I have not seen him, neither did he acknowledge his brethren, nor know his own children: for they have observed thy word, and kept thy covenant.

¹⁵ So that my soul chooseth strangling, and death rather than my life. ¹⁶ I lothe it; I would not live always: let me alone; for my days are vanity.

²⁵ Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire besides thee. ²⁶ My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.

¹⁷ Therefore I hated life; because the work that is wrought under the sun is grievous to me: for all is vanity and vexation of spirit. ¹⁸ Yes, I hated all my labor which I had taken under the sun: because I should leave it to the man that shall be after me. ¹⁹ And who knoweth whether he shall be a wise man or a fool? yet shall he have rule over all my labor in which I have labored, and in which I have showed myself wise under the sun. This is also vanity.

² I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, In what hast thou loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother? saith the LORD: yet I loved Jacob, ³ And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.

³⁷ He that loveth father or mother more than me, is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me, is not worthy of me.

²⁵ He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world, shall keep it to life eternal.

²⁴ But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my course with joy, and the ministry which I have received from the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

¹³ As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.

⁸ Yes doubtless, and I count all things to be loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them to be dung, that I may win Christ,

¹¹ And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives to the death.

³⁸ And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth me, is not worthy of me.

²¹ Yet he hath not root in himself, but endureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, forthwith he is offended.

²⁴ Then said Jesus to his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. ²⁵ For whoever will save his life, shall lose it: and whoever will lose his life for my sake, shall find it. ²⁶ For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

³⁴ And when he had called the people to him with his disciples also, he said to them, Whoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. ³⁵ For whoever will save his life, shall lose it; but whoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it. ³⁶ For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul: ³⁷ Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

²¹ Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said to him, One thing thou lackest: go, sell whatever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

²¹ And they constrain one Simon, a Cyrenian, who was passing by, coming from the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross.

²³ And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. ²⁴ For whoever will save his life, shall lose it: but whoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. ²⁵ For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?

¹⁷ And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew, Golgotha:

²² Confirming the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

¹² For which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed to him against that day.

¹² And all indeed that will live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.

⁴ And they said, come, let us build us a city, and a tower, whose top may reach to heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we should be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. ⁵ And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men were building. ⁶ And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. ⁷ Come, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. ⁸ So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. ⁹ Therefore is the name of it called Babel, because the LORD there confounded the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

²⁷ Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thy house.

²⁰ And Jesus saith to him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

²² And ye will be hated by all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

²² But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say to him, We are able. ²³ And he saith to them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared by my Father.

³³ So likewise, whoever he is of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

¹³ Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep, and to break my heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.

⁴ For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know. ⁵ For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter may have tempted you, and our labor be in vain.

¹³ Indeed, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; ¹⁴ Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shown me.

²⁷ And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell, and great was the fall of it.

³ Then Judas, who had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, ⁴ Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that. ⁵ And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself. ⁶ And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood. ⁷ And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in. ⁸ Wherefore that field has been called, The field of blood, to this day.

¹⁸ Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out. ¹⁹ And it was known to all the dwellers at Jerusalem; so that that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.

¹¹ For other foundation can no man lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. ¹² Now if any man buildeth upon this foundation, gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; ¹³ Every man's work will be made manifest: for the day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will try every man's work, of what sort it is. ¹⁴ If any man's work abideth which he hath built upon it, he shall receive a reward.

⁴ For it is impossible for those who have been once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit. ⁵ And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, ⁶ If they shall fall away, to renew them again to repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. ⁷ For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh often upon it, and bringeth forth herbs fit for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God: ⁸ But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh to cursing; whose end is to be burned.

¹¹ And we desire every one of you to show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope to the end:

³⁸ Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man shall draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

¹⁹ While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for by whom a man is overcome, by the same is he brought into bondage. ²⁰ For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. ²¹ For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. ²² But it hath happened to them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and, The sow that was washed, to her wallowing in the mire.

⁸ Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.

¹¹ And the king of Israel answered and said, Tell him, Let not him that girdeth on his harness boast himself as he that putteth it off.

²⁰ Thou sayest, but they are but vain words, I have counsel and strength for the war. Now in whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me? ²¹ Now behold, thou trustest upon the staff of this bruised reed, even upon Egypt, on which if a man leaneth, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust on him. ²² But if ye say to me, We trust in the LORD our God: is not that he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and hath said to Judah and Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?

¹⁸ Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.

⁸ Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbor hath put thee to shame.

³¹ And his servants said to him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings: let us, I pray thee, put sackcloth on our loins, and ropes upon our heads, and go out to the king of Israel: it may be he will save thy life. ³² So they girded sackcloth on their loins, and put ropes on their heads, and came to the king of Israel, and said, Thy servant Ben-hadad saith, I pray thee, let me live. And he said, Is he yet alive? he is my brother. ³³ Now the men diligently observed whether any thing would come from him, and did hastily catch it: and they said, Thy brother Ben-hadad. Then he said, Go ye, bring him. Then Ben-hadad came forth to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot. ³⁴ And Ben-hadad said to him, The cities, which my father took from thy father, I will restore; and thou shalt make streets for thee in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. Then said Ahab, I will send thee away with this covenant. So he made a covenant with him, and sent him away.

⁴ But they were exceedingly afraid, and said, Behold, two kings stood not before him: how then shall we stand? ⁵ And he that was over the house, and he that was over the city, the elders also, and those who brought up the children, sent to Jehu, saying, We are thy servants, and will do all that thou shalt bid us; we will not make any king: do thou that which is good in thy eyes.

⁹ (40:14)Then will I also confess to thee that thy own right hand can save thee.

²⁵ Agree with thy adversary quickly, while thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.

⁵⁸ When thou goest with thy adversary to the magistrate, as thou art in the way, give diligence that thou mayest be delivered from him; lest he draw thee before the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and the officer cast thee into prison.

²⁰ And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon. But they came with one accord to him, and having made Blastus the king's chamberlain their friend, desired peace, because their country was nourished by the king's country.

⁶ But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble. ⁷ Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. ⁸ Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners, and purify your hearts, ye double-minded. ⁹ Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. ¹⁰ Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will lift you up.

¹¹ And when they had brought their boats to land, they forsook all, and followed him.

²⁸ And he left all, arose, and followed him.

²⁶ If any man cometh to me, and hateth not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

²² Now when Jesus heard these things, he said to him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. ²³ And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.

²⁸ Then Peter said, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee.

¹ But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, ² And kept back part of the price, (his wife also being privy to it) and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet. ³ But Peter said, Ananias, Why hath Satan filled thy heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back part of the price of the land? ⁴ While it remained, was it not thy own? and after it was sold, was it not in thy own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thy heart? thou hast not lied to men, but to God. ⁵ And Ananias hearing these words, fell down, and expired. And great fear came on all them that heard these things.

¹⁹ Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Spirit. ²⁰ But Peter said to him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. ²¹ Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. ²² Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thy heart may be forgiven thee.

⁷ But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. ⁸ Yes doubtless, and I count all things to be loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them to be dung, that I may win Christ,

¹³ Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt hath lost its savor, with what shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot by men.

⁴⁹ For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt. ⁵⁰ Salt is good: but if the salt hath lost its saltness, with what will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

⁶ Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

⁴ God also bearing them testimony, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to his own will? ⁵ For to the angels he hath not put in subjection the world to come, concerning which we speak. ⁶ But one in a certain place testified, saying, What is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou visitest him? ⁷ Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honor, and didst set him over the works of thy hands: ⁸ Thou hast put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he put all in subjection under him, he left nothing that is not made subject to him. But now we see not yet all things subjected to him.

⁸ And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bore fruit a hundred-fold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

⁴⁴ Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man will be delivered into the hands of men.

⁶ If a man abideth not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered: and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

⁷ He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

¹¹ He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches; He that overcometh, shall not be hurt by the second death.
