Luke 14 Cross References - Webster

1 And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath, that they watched him. 2 And behold, there was a certain man before him who had the dropsy. 3 And Jesus answering, spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath? 4 And they held their peace. And he took him and healed him, and let him go; 5 And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not forthwith pull him out on the sabbath? 6 And they could not answer him again to these things. 7 And he put forth a parable to those who were invited, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying to them, 8 When thou art invited by any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room, lest a more honorable man than thou be invited by him; 9 And he that invited thee and him, shall come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room. 10 But when thou art invited, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that invited thee cometh, he may say to thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have honor in the presence of them that sit at table with thee. 11 For whoever exalteth himself shall be abased, and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. 12 Then said he also to him that invited him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbors; lest they also invite thee again, and a recompense be made thee. 13 But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: 14 And thou shalt be blessed: for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just. 15 And when one of them that sat at table with him heard these things, he said to him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God. 16 Then said he to him, A certain man made a great supper, and invited many: 17 And sent his servant at supper-time, to say to them that were invited, Come, for all things are now ready. 18 And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said to him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. 19 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused. 20 And another said, I have married a wife: and therefore I cannot come. 21 So that servant came, and showed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry, said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind. 22 And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room. 23 And the lord said to the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. 24 For I say to you, that none of those men who were invited, shall taste my supper. 25 And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said to them, 26 If any man cometh to me, and hateth not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. 27 And whoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple. 28 For which of you intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he hath sufficient to finish it? 29 Lest perhaps after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, 30 Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish. 31 Or what king going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand? 32 Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an embassy, and desireth conditions of peace. 33 So likewise, whoever he is of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple. 34 Salt is good: but if the salt hath lost its savor, with what shall it be seasoned? 35 It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill, but men cast it out. And they said, Seven, and a few little fishes. 35 And he commanded the multitude to sit on the ground. 36 And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and broke them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. 37 And they all ate and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that were left seven baskets full. 38 And they that had eaten were four thousand men, besides women and children. 39 And he sent away the multitude, and took a boat, and came into the borders of Magdala.

John 6:27-59

27 Labor not for the food which perisheth, but for that food which endureth to everlasting life, which the Son of man will give to you: for him hath God the Father sealed. 28 Then said they to him, What shall we do, that we may work the works of God? 29 Jesus answered and said to them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. 30 They said therefore to him, What sign showest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work? 31 Our fathers ate manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat. 32 Then Jesus said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is he who cometh down from heaven, and giveth life to the world. 34 Then said they to him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. 35 And Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me, shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me, shall never thirst. 36 But I said to you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not. 37 All that the Father giveth me, shall come to me; and him that cometh to me, I will in no wise reject. 38 For I came down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him that sent me. 39 And this is the Father's will who hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me, I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. 40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one who seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. 41 The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven. 42 And they said, Is not this Jesus the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven? 43 Jesus therefore answered and said to them, Murmur not among yourselves. 44 No man can come to me, except the Father who hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. 45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught from God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned from the Father, cometh to me. 46 Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he who is from God, he hath seen the Father. 47 Verily, verily, I say to you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. 48 I am that bread of life. 49 Your fathers ate manna in the wilderness, and are dead. 50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat of it, and not die. 51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man shall eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. 52 The Jews therefore contended among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? 53 Then Jesus said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. 54 Whoever eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. 56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him. 57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. 58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers ate manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever. 59 These things he said in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.

2 The kingdom of heaven is like to a certain king, who made a marriage for his son, 3 And sent his servants to call them that were invited to the wedding: and they would not come. 4 Again, he sent other servants, saying, Tell them who are invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come to the marriage. 5 But they made light of it, and went, one to his farm, another to his merchandise. 6 And the remnant took his servants, and treated them spitefully, and slew them. 7 But when the king heard of it, he was wroth: and he sent his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. 8 Then he saith to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they who were invited were not worthy. 9 Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, invite to the marriage. 10 So those servants went out into the highways, and collected all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. 11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who had not a wedding-garment: 12 And he saith to him, Friend, how camest thou in hither, not having a wedding-garment? And he was speechless. 13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into utter darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

Matthew 3:1-12

1 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, 2 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. 3 For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. 4 And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his food was locusts and wild honey. 5 Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region about Jordan, 6 And were baptized by him in Jordan, confessing their sins. 7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said to them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: 9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for our father: for I say to you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children to Abraham. 10 And now also the ax is laid to the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 11 I indeed baptize you with water to repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit, and with fire: 12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his floor, and gather his wheat into the granary; but he will burn the chaff with unquenchable fire.

Matthew 22:3-4

3 And sent his servants to call them that were invited to the wedding: and they would not come. 4 Again, he sent other servants, saying, Tell them who are invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come to the marriage.

Luke 10:1-12

1 After these things, the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city, and place, whither he himself would come. 2 Therefore said he to them, The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth laborers into his harvest. 3 Go: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves. 4 Carry neither purse, nor sack, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way. 5 And into whatever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house. 6 And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again. 7 And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the laborer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. 8 And into whatever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you. 9 And heal the sick that are therein, and say to them, The kingdom of God is come nigh to you. 10 But into whatever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go out into the streets of the same, and say, 11 Even the very dust of your city which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding, be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh to you. 12 But I say to you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that city.

Genesis 11:4-9

4 And they said, come, let us build us a city, and a tower, whose top may reach to heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we should be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. 5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men were building. 6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. 7 Come, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. 8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. 9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel, because the LORD there confounded the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

4 For it is impossible for those who have been once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit. 5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, 6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again to repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. 7 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh often upon it, and bringeth forth herbs fit for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God: 8 But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh to cursing; whose end is to be burned.

And he said, Is he yet alive? he is my brother. 33 Now the men diligently observed whether any thing would come from him, and did hastily catch it: and they said, Thy brother Ben-hadad. Then he said, Go ye, bring him. Then Ben-hadad came forth to him; and he caused him to come up into the chariot. 34 And Ben-hadad said to him, The cities, which my father took from thy father, I will restore; and thou shalt make streets for thee in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. And great fear came on all them that heard these things.
