¹⁹ This he spoke, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith to him, Follow me.

²² Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, and chief priests, and scribes, and be put to death, and be raised the third day. ²³ And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. ²⁴ For whoever will save his life, shall lose it: but whoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. ²⁵ For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away? ²⁶ For whoever shall be ashamed of me, and of my words, of him will the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in that of his Father, and of the holy angels.

²⁶ If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honor.

³⁶ Simon Peter said to him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterward. ³⁷ Peter said to him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake.

³² That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spoke, signifying what death he should die.

²² Jesus saith to him, If I will that he shall tarry till I come, what is that to thee? Follow thou me.

²⁰ According to my earnest expectation and hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also, Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life, or by death.

¹¹ If any man speaketh let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man ministereth let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ; to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. ¹² Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you: ¹³ But rejoice, seeing ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. ¹⁴ If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you. On their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.
