Then said they to him, We are not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.

¹ I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me testimony in the Holy Spirit, ² That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart. ³ For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ, for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh: ⁴ Who are Israelites; to whom pertain the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises; ⁵ Whose are the fathers, and from whom according to the flesh, Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.

⁷ Neither because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. ⁸ That is, They who are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are counted for the seed. ⁹ For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sarah shall have a son. ¹⁰ And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac, ¹¹ (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God, according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth) ¹² It was said to her, The elder shall serve the younger. ¹³ As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated. ¹⁴ What shall we say then? ¹ Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they may be saved. ² For I bear them testimony that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. ³ For they, being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves to the righteousness of God.

²³ Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

² As new-born babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

²⁸ And now, little children, abide in him; that when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. ²⁹ If ye know that he is righteous ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.

⁹ Whoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

⁷ Beloved, let us love one another: for love is from God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

¹ Whoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ, is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat, loveth him also that is begotten by him.

⁴ For whatever is born of God, overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

¹⁸ We know that whoever is born of God, sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God, keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.
