⁴ Praise him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye waters that are above the heavens. ⁵ Let them praise the name of the LORD: for he commanded, and they were created. ⁶ He hath also established them for ever and ever: he hath made a decree which shall not pass.

¹ Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.

²⁷ When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:

¹² Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and measured heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?

²⁴ Thus saith the LORD thy Redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself:

³ But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: yes, who knoweth not such things as these?

³ Surely I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to reason with God.

⁶ Hear now my reasoning, and hearken to the pleadings of my lips.

²⁰ Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding? ²¹ Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air.

² Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?

³ Who is he that hideth counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered that which I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not.

¹⁶ When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me; ¹⁷ Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then I understood their end.

²² So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee.

⁶ Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain to it.

² Surely I am more brutish than any man, and have not the understanding of a man. ³ I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy. ⁴ Who hath ascended into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?

¹² For now we see through a glass darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

² Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

³ For now it would be heavier than the sand of the sea: therefore my words are swallowed up.

⁷ Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty to perfection? ⁸ It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know?

⁴ For there is not a word on my tongue, but lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.

³⁶ But I say to you, That for every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account in the day of judgment. ³⁷ For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

⁹ He holdeth back the face of his throne, and spreadeth his cloud upon it.

²⁵ Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder;

¹¹ Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and on the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all.

¹⁰ (40:15)Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.

⁴ The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty.

⁵ Come and see the works of God: he is terrible in his doing towards the children of men.

¹ The LORD reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the LORD is clothed with strength, with which he hath girded himself: the world also is established, that it cannot be moved.

¹ Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honor and majesty.

⁵ I will speak of the glorious honor of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous works.

²³ The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.

¹⁰ Enter into the rock, and hide thee in the dust, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty.

¹⁹ And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the LORD, and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.

³ The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.

Thou didst cleave the earth with rivers. ¹⁰ The mountains saw thee, and they trembled: the overflowing of the water passed by: the deep uttered his voice, and lifted up his hands on high. ¹¹ The sun and moon stood still in their habitation: at the light of thy arrows they went, and at the shining of thy glittering spear. ¹² Thou didst march through the land in indignation, thou didst thresh the heathen in anger. ¹³ Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people, even for salvation with thy anointed; thou woundedst the head out of the house of the wicked, by uncovering the foundation to the neck. Selah. ¹⁴ Thou didst strike through with his staffs the head of his villages: they came out as a whirlwind to scatter me: their rejoicing was as to devour the poor secretly. ¹⁵ Thou didst walk through the sea with thy horses, through the mire of great waters. ¹⁶ When I heard, my belly trembled; my lips quivered at the voice: rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in myself, that I might rest in the day of trouble: when he cometh up to the people, he will invade them with his troops. ¹⁷ Although the fig-tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labor of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no food; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: ¹⁸ Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. ¹⁹ The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon my high places. ³ Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself made purification of our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

²⁹ For our God is a consuming fire.

²⁵ To God the only wise, our Savior, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

³ Doth God pervert judgment; or doth the Almighty pervert justice?

⁴ He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened himself against him, and hath prospered?

¹⁹ If I speak of strength, lo, he is strong: and if of judgment, who shall set me a time to plead?

¹³ With him is wisdom and strength, he hath counsel and understanding.

⁷ But now he hath made me weary: thou hast made desolate all my company. ⁸ And thou hast filled me with wrinkles, which is a witness against me: and my leanness rising up in me beareth witness to my face. ⁹ He teareth me in his wrath, who hateth me: he gnasheth upon me with his teeth; my enemy sharpeneth his eyes upon me. ¹⁰ They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves against me. ¹¹ God hath delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked. ¹² I was at ease, but he hath broken me asunder: he hath also taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark. ¹³ His archers encompass me; he cleaveth my reins asunder, and doth not spare; he poureth out my gall upon the ground. ¹⁴ He breaketh me with breach upon breach, he runneth upon me like a giant. ¹⁵ I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, and defiled my horn in the dust. ¹⁶ My face is foul with weeping, and on my eyelids are the shades of death; ¹⁷ Not for any injustice in my hands: also my prayer is pure.

⁵ Behold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any: he is mighty in strength and wisdom.

¹⁹ Teach us what we shall say to him; for we cannot order our speech by reason of darkness.

¹¹ (62:10)Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.

⁶ (65:5)By terrible things in righteousness wilt thou answer us, O God of our salvation; who art the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of them that are afar off upon the sea:

³ Say to God, How terrible art thou in thy works! through the greatness of thy power shall thy enemies submit themselves to thee.

⁴ The king's strength also loveth judgment; thou dost establish equity, thou executest judgment and righteousness in Jacob.

⁶ Who made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that is in them: who keepeth truth for ever: ⁷ Who executeth judgment for the oppressed: who giveth food to the hungry. The LORD looseth the prisoners:

²¹ Tell ye, and bring them near; yes, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else besides me; a just God and a Savior; there is none besides me.

⁹ In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bore them, and carried them all the days of old.

³² But though he causeth grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies. ³³ For he doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men.

²³ Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?

³² For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn ye, and live.

¹³ And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

²² All things are delivered to me by my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him.

¹⁶ Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and power everlasting. Amen.

¹⁰ For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.

¹³ He taketh the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the froward is carried headlong.

⁴ But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.

¹¹ I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

²¹ Woe to them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

³⁹ And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them:

⁹ And it shall be to me a name of joy, a praise, and an honor before all the nations of the earth, which shall hear all the good that I do to them: and they shall fear and tremble for all the goodness and for all the prosperity that I procure to it.

⁵ Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the LORD their God, and David their king; and shall fear the LORD and his goodness in the latter days.

²⁸ And fear not them who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

²⁵ At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to babes. ²⁶ Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in thy sight.

²¹ In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.

⁴ And I say to you, my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. ⁵ But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, who after he hath killed, hath power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, Fear him.

⁴ Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness, and forbearance, and long-suffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?

²⁰ Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not high-minded, but fear: ²¹ For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. ²² Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them who fell, severity; but towards thee, goodness, if thou shalt continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

²⁶ For ye see your calling, brethren, that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble are called:

¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.
