⁹ For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.

²² This is one thing, therefore I said it, he destroyeth the perfect and the wicked. ²³ If the scourge shall slay suddenly, he will laugh at the trial of the innocent.

³⁰ If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean; ³¹ Yet wilt thou plunge me in the ditch, and my own clothes shall abhor me.

¹⁴ Therefore they say to God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways. ¹⁵ What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray to him? ¹⁶ Lo, their good is not in their hand: the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
