²⁰ The womb shall forget him; the worm shall feed sweetly on him; he shall be no more remembered; and wickedness shall be broken as a tree.

⁷ For there is hope of a tree, if it is cut down, that it will sprout again, and that its tender branch will not cease. ⁸ Though its root shall become old in the earth, and its stock die in the ground; ⁹ Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant. ¹⁰ But man dieth, and wasteth away: yes, man yieldeth his breath, and where is he?

¹⁴ I have said to corruption, Thou art my father: to the worm, Thou art my mother, and my sister.

¹⁶ His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his branch be cut off. ¹⁷ His remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the street.

²⁶ And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:

⁷ The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall perish.

¹⁰ And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this is also vanity.

¹⁴ They are dead, they shall not live; they are deceased, they shall not rise: therefore hast thou visited and destroyed them, and made all their memory to perish.

¹⁴ He cried aloud, and said thus, Hew down the tree, and cut off its branches, shake off its leaves, and scatter its fruit: let the beasts escape from under it, and the fowls from its branches.
