¹⁶ In the dark they dig through houses, which they had marked for themselves in the day-time: they know not the light.

² If a thief shall be found breaking through, and be smitten that he die, there shall no blood be shed for him. ³ If the sun shall have risen upon him, there shall be blood shed for him: for he should make full restitution; if he have nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.

¹³ They are of those that rebel against the light; they know not its ways, nor abide in its paths.

¹² Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the day-spring to know its place; ¹³ That it might take hold of the ends of earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?

⁵ Dig thou through the wall in their sight, and carry out thereby. ⁶ In their sight shalt thou bear it upon thy shoulders, and carry it forth in the twilight: thou shalt cover thy face, that thou mayest not see the ground: for I have set thee for a sign to the house of Israel. ⁷ And I did so as I was commanded: I brought forth my stuff by day, as stuff for captivity, and in the evening I digged through the wall with my hand; I brought it forth in the twilight, and I bore it upon my shoulder in their sight.

¹² And the prince that is among them shall bear upon his shoulder in the twilight, and shall go forth: they shall dig through the wall to carry out thereby: he shall cover his face, that he may not see the ground with his eyes.

¹⁹ Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

⁴³ But know this, that if the master of the house knew in what watch the thief would come, he would watch, and would not suffer his house to be broken up.
