⁵ But you say: ‘Whoever says to his father or mother, “Whatever you might be profited by me is a gift to God ”—

¹⁶ “Woe to you blind guides, who say, ‘Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple is obligated’. ¹⁷ Stupid and blind! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold? ¹⁸ And, ‘Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it is obligated’.

¹⁰ For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’ and, ‘He who speaks evil of father or mother must be put to death’. ¹¹ But you say that if a man should say to father or mother, ‘Whatever profit you might have received from me is Korban’ (that is, a gift to God), ¹² you don’t even allow him to do anything for his father or his mother any more, ¹³ making the Word of God of no effect by your tradition that you have handed down. Yes, you do many such things.”
