⁴¹ Then in answer Jesus said: “O unbelieving and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you and put up with you (pl)? Bring your (sg) son here!”

⁷ But seeing many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them: “Brood of vipers! Who tipped you off to flee from the coming wrath?

²⁸ Come to me all you who are laboring and are loaded down, and I will give you rest.

³⁹ But in answer He said to them: “A malignant and adulterous generation seeks a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.

⁴⁵ Then he goes and takes along with himself seven different spirits, more malignant than himself, and going in he dwells there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first. Just so it will be for this malignant generation also.”

⁴ A malignant and adulterous generation seeks a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.” And leaving them behind He went away.

¹⁷ Then in answer Jesus said: “O faithless and perverse generation, how long must I be with you? How long must I put up with you? Bring him here to me.”

³⁶ Assuredly I say to you that all these things will come upon this generation.

¹⁹ But He answered him by saying: “O unbelieving generation, how long shall I be with you, how long shall I put up with you? Bring him to me!”

¹⁴ But when Jesus saw it He was indignant and said to them: “Let the little children come to me; do not hinder them, because the Kingdom of God is made up of such.

⁴⁹ So Jesus stood still and said to call him. Then they called the blind man, saying to him: “Courage! Get up! He’s calling you!”

²⁵ So He said to them, “Where is your faith?” But being terrified they marveled, saying to each other: “Who can this be? Because He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him!”

⁹ Jesus says to him: “Such a long time I’ve been with you, and you haven’t known me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

²⁷ Then He says to Thomas: “Bring your finger here and perceive my hands; bring your hand and put it into my side; don’t be unbelieving but believing!”

⁴⁰ With many different words he both testified and kept exhorting, saying, “Escape from this perverse generation!”

¹⁸ For a period of about forty years He put up with them in the wilderness.

⁴ Or do you scorn the riches of His kindness, tolerance and longsuffering, not recognizing that the goodness of God is leading you toward repentance?

⁹ where your fathers tested me, proved me and saw my works for forty years. ¹⁰ In consequence I became very angry with that generation and said, ‘Their heart always leads them astray; they have not known my ways.’ ¹¹ So I took an oath in my wrath, ‘As if they will ever enter my rest!’”—

¹⁹ So we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief.

² Really, because we are continually hearing good news just like they did, but the word that they heard did not profit them, since they were not intimately united with the faith of those who obeyed.

¹¹ Therefore, let us take pains to enter into that rest so that no one may fall through the same pattern of disobedience.

²⁵ Therefore He is able to save absolutely those who come to God through Him, since He always lives and can intercede on their behalf.
