I will teach you the fear of Yahweh. ¹² Who is someone who desires life, and loves many days, that he may see good? ¹³ Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking lies. ¹⁴ Depart from evil, and do good. Seek peace, and pursue it. ¹⁵ Yahweh’s eyes are toward the righteous. His ears listen to their cry. ¹⁶ Yahweh’s face is against those who do evil, to cut off their memory from the earth. ¹⁷ The righteous cry, and Yahweh hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. ¹⁸ Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. ¹⁹ Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but Yahweh delivers him out of them all. ²⁰ He protects all of his bones. Not one of them is broken. ²¹ Evil shall kill the wicked. Those who hate the righteous shall be condemned. ²² Yahweh redeems the soul of his servants. None of those who take refuge in him shall be condemned.

² Abraham said about Sarah his wife, “She is my sister.” Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.

¹ There was a famine in the land, in addition to the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines, to Gerar.

¹³ He changed his behavior before them, and pretended to be insane in their hands, and scribbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down on his beard. ¹⁴ Then Achish said to his servants, “Look, you see the man is insane. Why then have you brought him to me? ¹⁵ Do I lack madmen, that you have brought this fellow to play the madman in my presence? Should this fellow come into my house?”

⁶ I have relied on you from the womb. You are he who took me out of my mother’s womb. I will always praise you.

⁸ My mouth shall be filled with your praise, with your honor all day long.

¹⁴ But I will always hope, and will add to all of your praise. ¹⁵ My mouth will tell about your righteousness, and of your salvation all day, though I don’t know its full measure.

¹ A praise psalm by David. I will exalt you, my God, the King. I will praise your name forever and ever. ² Every day I will praise you. I will extol your name forever and ever.

²⁵ The fear of man proves to be a snare, but whoever puts his trust in Yahweh is kept safe.

¹⁵ Therefore glorify Yahweh in the east, even the name of Yahweh, the God of Israel, in the islands of the sea! ¹⁶ From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs. Glory to the righteous! But I said, “I pine away! I pine away! woe is me!” The treacherous have dealt treacherously. Yes, the treacherous have dealt very treacherously.

⁴¹ They therefore departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for Jesus’ name.

²⁵ But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.

²⁰ giving thanks always concerning all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to God, even the Father;

¹⁷ Whatever you do, in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father, through him.

³ We are bound to always give thanks to God for you, brothers, even as it is appropriate, because your faith grows exceedingly, and the love of each and every one of you toward one another abounds,

¹³ But we are bound to always give thanks to God for you, brothers loved by the Lord, because God chose you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief in the truth,

²² I will declare your name to my brothers. Among the assembly, I will praise you. ²³ You who fear Yahweh, praise him! All you descendants of Jacob, glorify him! Stand in awe of him, all you descendants of Israel! ²⁴ For he has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted, Neither has he hidden his face from him; but when he cried to him, he heard.

⁵ I acknowledged my sin to you. I didn’t hide my iniquity. I said, I will confess my transgressions to Yahweh, and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah. ⁶ For this, let everyone who is godly pray to you in a time when you may be found. Surely when the great waters overflow, they shall not reach to him.

⁸ In God we have made our boast all day long, we will give thanks to your name forever. Selah.

³ Glory in his holy name. Let the heart of those who seek Yahweh rejoice.

⁷⁴ Those who fear you will see me and be glad, because I have put my hope in your word.

⁷ Bring my soul out of prison, that I may give thanks to your name. The righteous will surround me, for you will be good to me.

²⁵ All the offspring of Israel will be justified in Yahweh, and will rejoice!

²⁴ But let him who glories glory in this, that he has understanding, and knows me, that I am Yahweh who exercises loving kindness, justice, and righteousness in the earth, for I delight in these things,” says Yahweh.

³¹ that, as it is written, “He who boasts, let him boast in the Lord.”

¹⁷ But “he who boasts, let him boast in the Lord.”

¹⁵ The saying is faithful and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. ¹⁶ However, for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first, Jesus Christ might display all his patience for an example of those who were going to believe in him for eternal life.

²⁰ Then David said to all the assembly, “Now bless Yahweh your God!” All the assembly blessed Yahweh, the God of their fathers, and bowed down their heads and prostrated themselves before Yahweh and the king.

³⁰ Moreover Hezekiah the king and the princes commanded the Levites to sing praises to Yahweh with the words of David, and of Asaph the seer. They sang praises with gladness, and they bowed their heads and worshiped.

¹ Rejoice in Yahweh, you righteous! Praise is fitting for the upright. ² Give thanks to Yahweh with the lyre. Sing praises to him with the harp of ten strings.

²⁷ Let those who favor my righteous cause shout for joy and be glad. Yes, let them say continually, “May Yahweh be magnified, who has pleasure in the prosperity of his servant!”

¹⁶ Let all those who seek you rejoice and be glad in you. Let such as love your salvation say continually, “Let Yahweh be exalted!”

⁸ Praise our God, you peoples! Make the sound of his praise heard,

³⁰ I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.

²⁰ Praise Yahweh, you angels of his, who are mighty in strength, who fulfill his word, obeying the voice of his word. ²¹ Praise Yahweh, all you armies of his, you servants of his, who do his pleasure. ²² Praise Yahweh, all you works of his, in all places of his dominion. Praise Yahweh, my soul!

¹ Praise Yah! Praise Yahweh from the heavens! Praise him in the heights! ² Praise him, all his angels! Praise him, all his army! ³ Praise him, sun and moon! Praise him, all you shining stars! ⁴ Praise him, you heavens of heavens, you waters that are above the heavens. ⁵ Let them praise Yahweh’s name, for he commanded, and they were created. ⁶ He has also established them forever and ever. He has made a decree which will not pass away. ⁷ Praise Yahweh from the earth, you great sea creatures, and all depths; ⁸ lightning and hail, snow and clouds; stormy wind, fulfilling his word; ⁹ mountains and all hills; fruit trees and all cedars; ¹⁰ wild animals and all livestock; small creatures and flying birds; ¹¹ kings of the earth and all peoples; princes and all judges of the earth; ¹² both young men and maidens; old men and children: ¹³ let them praise Yahweh’s name, for his name alone is exalted. His glory is above the earth and the heavens. ¹⁴ He has lifted up the horn of his people, the praise of all his saints, even of the children of Israel, a people near to him. Praise Yah!

⁴⁶ Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord.

¹⁷ This became known to all, both Jews and Greeks, who lived at Ephesus. Fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.

²⁰ according to my earnest expectation and hope, that I will in no way be disappointed, but with all boldness, as always, now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.

⁷ He said with a loud voice, “Fear the Lord, and give him glory; for the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and the springs of waters!”

⁵ A voice came from the throne, saying, “Give praise to our God, all you his servants, you who fear him, the small and the great!” ⁶ I heard something like the voice of a great multitude, and like the voice of many waters, and like the voice of mighty thunders, saying, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns!

¹ David said in his heart, “I will now perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul will despair of me, to seek me any more in all the borders of Israel. So shall I escape out of his hand.”

² and he went out to meet Asa, and said to him, “Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin! Yahweh is with you, while you are with him; and if you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will forsake you.

⁶ In my distress I called on Yahweh, and cried to my God. He heard my voice out of his temple. My cry before him came into his ears.

²⁴ For he has not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted, Neither has he hidden his face from him; but when he cried to him, he heard.

¹ By David. Yahweh is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? Yahweh is the strength of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid? ² When evildoers came at me to eat up my flesh, even my adversaries and my foes, they stumbled and fell.

²² As for me, I said in my haste, “I am cut off from before your eyes.” Nevertheless you heard the voice of my petitions when I cried to you.

² Therefore we won’t be afraid, though the earth changes, though the mountains are shaken into the heart of the seas;

³ When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.

¹ For the Chief Musician. To Jeduthun. A Psalm by Asaph. My cry goes to God! Indeed, I cry to God for help, and for him to listen to me. ² In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord. My hand was stretched out in the night, and didn’t get tired. My soul refused to be comforted.

¹ I love Yahweh, because he listens to my voice, and my cries for mercy. ² Because he has turned his ear to me, therefore I will call on him as long as I live. ³ The cords of death surrounded me, the pains of Sheol got a hold of me. I found trouble and sorrow. ⁴ Then I called on Yahweh’s name: “Yahweh, I beg you, deliver my soul.” ⁵ Yahweh is Gracious and righteous. Yes, our God is merciful. ⁶ Yahweh preserves the simple. I was brought low, and he saved me.

² Behold, God is my salvation. I will trust, and will not be afraid; for Yah, Yahweh, is my strength and song; and he has become my salvation.”

² He said, “I called because of my affliction to Yahweh. He answered me. Out of the belly of Sheol I cried. You heard my voice.

⁷ “Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened for you.

⁹ “I tell you, keep asking, and it will be given you. Keep seeking, and you will find. Keep knocking, and it will be opened to you.

⁵ For even when we had come into Macedonia, our flesh had no relief, but we were afflicted on every side. Fightings were outside. Fear was inside. ⁶ Nevertheless, he who comforts the lowly, God, comforted us by the coming of Titus,

⁸ Concerning this thing, I begged the Lord three times that it might depart from me. ⁹ He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.

⁷ For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.

⁷ He, in the days of his flesh, having offered up prayers and petitions with strong crying and tears to him who was able to save him from death, and having been heard for his godly fear,

⁵ Joab came into the house to the king, and said, “Today you have shamed the faces of all your servants, who today have saved your life, and the lives of your sons and of your daughters, and the lives of your wives, and the lives of your concubines;

¹⁶ The Jews had light, gladness, joy, and honor.

³ Behold, and answer me, Yahweh, my God. Give light to my eyes, lest I sleep in death;

²⁸ For you will light my lamp, Yahweh. My God will light up my darkness.

³ Yes, no one who waits for you will be shamed. They will be shamed who deal treacherously without cause.

⁹ For with you is the spring of life. In your light we will see light.

¹⁶ Fill their faces with confusion, that they may seek your name, Yahweh.

¹¹ Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.

¹ A Song of Ascents. I lift up my eyes to you, you who sit in the heavens. ² Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress; so our eyes look to Yahweh, our God, until he has mercy on us.

²² “Look to me, and be saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.

⁵ Then you shall see and be radiant, and your heart will thrill and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea will be turned to you. The wealth of the nations will come to you.

² looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

¹⁶ the angel who has redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads, and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac. Let them grow into a multitude upon the earth.”

¹ David spoke to Yahweh the words of this song in the day that Yahweh delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul,

⁴ I cry to Yahweh with my voice, and he answers me out of his holy hill. Selah.

¹⁷ Yahweh, you have heard the desire of the humble. You will prepare their heart. You will cause your ear to hear,

¹⁷ The righteous cry, and Yahweh hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. ¹⁸ Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. ¹⁹ Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but Yahweh delivers him out of them all.

¹⁷ But I am poor and needy. May the Lord think about me. You are my help and my deliverer. Don’t delay, my God.

¹⁶ Come and hear, all you who fear God. I will declare what he has done for my soul. ¹⁷ I cried to him with my mouth. He was extolled with my tongue. ¹⁸ If I cherished sin in my heart, the Lord wouldn’t have listened. ¹⁹ But most certainly, God has listened. He has heard the voice of my prayer. ²⁰ Blessed be God, who has not turned away my prayer, nor his loving kindness from me.

¹⁴ I told him, “My lord, you know.” He said to me, “These are those who came out of the great suffering.They washed their robes, and made them white in the Lamb’s blood. ¹⁵ Therefore they are before the throne of God, they serve him day and night in his temple. He who sits on the throne will spread his tabernacle over them. ¹⁶ They will never be hungry or thirsty any more. The sun won’t beat on them, nor any heat; ¹⁷ for the Lamb who is in the middle of the throne shepherds them and leads them to springs of life-giving waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

¹ Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him. ² When he saw them, Jacob said, “This is God’s army.” He called the name of that place Mahanaim.

¹⁷ Elisha prayed, and said, “Yahweh, please open his eyes, that he may see.” Yahweh opened the young man’s eyes; and he saw: and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire around Elisha.

³⁵ That night, Yahweh’s angel went out, and struck one hundred eighty-five thousand in the camp of the Assyrians. When men arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies.

¹¹ For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways.

²² My God has sent his angel, and has shut the lions’ mouths, and they have not hurt me; because as before him innocence was found in me; and also before you, O king, I have done no harm.”

⁸ I will encamp around my house against the army, that no one pass through or return; and no oppressor will pass through them any more: for now I have seen with my eyes.

¹⁰ See that you don’t despise one of these little ones, for I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven.

²² The beggar died, and he was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died, and was buried.

¹⁴ Aren’t they all serving spirits, sent out to do service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation?

¹² Give sincere homage to the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish on the way, for his wrath will soon be kindled. Blessed are all those who take refuge in him.

⁷ How precious is your loving kindness, God! The children of men take refuge under the shadow of your wings.

¹⁰ Oh continue your loving kindness to those who know you, your righteousness to the upright in heart.

¹ For the Chief Musician. A contemplation by David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, “David has come to Ahimelech’s house.” Why do you boast of mischief, mighty man? God’s loving kindness endures continually.

⁵ My soul shall be satisfied as with the richest food. My mouth shall praise you with joyful lips,

¹² Yahweh of Armies, blessed is the man who trusts in you.

¹⁰³ How sweet are your promises to my taste, more than honey to my mouth!

³ As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, his fruit was sweet to my taste.

¹ I have come into my garden, my sister, my bride. I have gathered my myrrh with my spice; I have eaten my honeycomb with my honey; I have drunk my wine with my milk. Friends Eat, friends! Drink, yes, drink abundantly, beloved.

¹⁴ I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people will be satisfied with my goodness,” says Yahweh.

¹⁷ For how great is his goodness, and how great is his beauty! Grain will make the young men flourish, and new wine the virgins.

⁴ For concerning those who were once enlightened and tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Spirit, ⁵ and tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come,

² as newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the Word, that with it you may grow, ³ if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious:

¹ That which was from the beginning, that which we have heard, that which we have seen with our eyes, that which we saw, and our hands touched, concerning the Word of life ² (and the life was revealed, and we have seen, and testify, and declare to you the life, the eternal life, which was with the Father, and was revealed to us); ³ that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us. Yes, and our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son, Jesus Christ.

⁷ Beloved, let’s love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves has been born of God, and knows God. ⁸ He who doesn’t love doesn’t know God, for God is love. ⁹ By this God’s love was revealed in us, that God has sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. ¹⁰ In this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins.

¹² He said, “Don’t lay your hand on the boy or do anything to him. For now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from me.”

²³ You who fear Yahweh, praise him! All you descendants of Jacob, glorify him! Stand in awe of him, all you descendants of Israel!

¹ A Psalm by David. Yahweh is my shepherd: I shall lack nothing.

²³ Oh love Yahweh, all you his saints! Yahweh preserves the faithful, and fully recompenses him who behaves arrogantly.

⁷ a very awesome God in the council of the holy ones, to be feared above all those who are around him?

¹³ Yahweh of Armies is who you must respect as holy. He is the one you must fear. He is the one you must dread. ¹⁴ He will be a sanctuary, but for both houses of Israel, he will be a stumbling stone and a rock that makes them fall. For the people of Jerusalem, he will be a trap and a snare.

⁵ Afterward the children of Israel shall return, and seek Yahweh their God, and David their king, and shall come with trembling to Yahweh and to his blessings in the last days.

³⁰ For the nations of the world seek after all of these things, but your Father knows that you need these things. ³¹ But seek God’s Kingdom, and all these things will be added to you. ³² Don’t be afraid, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the Kingdom.

³² He who didn’t spare his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how would he not also with him freely give us all things?

²² whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come. All are yours, ²³ and you are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s.

¹⁹ My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

³ They sang the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, “Great and marvelous are your works, Lord God, the Almighty! Righteous and true are your ways, you King of the nations. ⁴ Who wouldn’t fear you, Lord, and glorify your name? For you only are holy. For all the nations will come and worship before you. For your righteous acts have been revealed.”

¹⁰ The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, the teeth of the young lions, are broken. ¹¹ The old lion perishes for lack of prey. The cubs of the lioness are scattered abroad.

¹¹ For Yahweh God is a sun and a shield. Yahweh will give grace and glory. He withholds no good thing from those who walk blamelessly.

²¹ The young lions roar after their prey, and seek their food from God.

³² For the Gentiles seek after all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.

⁵¹ He has shown strength with his arm. He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. ⁵² He has put down princes from their thrones, and has exalted the lowly. ⁵³ He has filled the hungry with good things. He has sent the rich away empty.

⁸ I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you.

¹⁶ Come and hear, all you who fear God. I will declare what he has done for my soul.

¹⁰ The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom. All those who do his work have a good understanding. His praise endures forever!

⁷ The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge; but the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.

¹ My son, if you will receive my words, and store up my commandments within you, ² so as to turn your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; ³ yes, if you call out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding; ⁴ if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures: ⁵ then you will understand the fear of Yahweh, and find the knowledge of God. ⁶ For Yahweh gives wisdom. Out of his mouth comes knowledge and understanding. ⁷ He lays up sound wisdom for the upright. He is a shield to those who walk in integrity, ⁸ that he may guard the paths of justice, and preserve the way of his saints. ⁹ Then you will understand righteousness and justice, equity and every good path.

¹ Listen, sons, to a father’s instruction. Pay attention and know understanding;

²⁴ Now therefore, sons, listen to me. Pay attention to the words of my mouth.

¹⁷ I love those who love me. Those who seek me diligently will find me.

³² “Now therefore, my sons, listen to me, for blessed are those who keep my ways.

⁶ Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

⁹ Rejoice, young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth, and walk in the ways of your heart, and in the sight of your eyes; but know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.

⁹ Whom will he teach knowledge? To whom will he explain the message? Those who are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts?

² Jesus called a little child to himself, and set him in the middle of them, ³ and said, “Most certainly I tell you, unless you turn, and become as little children, you will in no way enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. ⁴ Whoever therefore humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.

¹⁴ But when Jesus saw it, he was moved with indignation, and said to them, “Allow the little children to come to me! Don’t forbid them, for God’s Kingdom belongs to such as these. ¹⁵ Most certainly I tell you, whoever will not receive God’s Kingdom like a little child, he will in no way enter into it.” ¹⁶ He took them in his arms, and blessed them, laying his hands on them.

³³ Little children, I will be with you a little while longer. You will seek me, and as I said to the Jews, ‘Where I am going, you can’t come,’ so now I tell you.

¹⁵ From infancy, you have known the holy Scriptures which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith, which is in Christ Jesus.

² that you might fear Yahweh your God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command you—you, your son, and your son’s son, all the days of your life; and that your days may be prolonged.

²⁰ to love Yahweh your God, to obey his voice, and to cling to him; for he is your life, and the length of your days, that you may dwell in the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.

⁷ Oh remember that my life is a breath. My eye will no more see good.

⁶ Many say, “Who will show us any good?” Yahweh, let the light of your face shine on us.

⁴ He asked life of you and you gave it to him, even length of days forever and ever.

¹⁶ I will satisfy him with long life, and show him my salvation.”

³ I searched in my heart how to cheer my flesh with wine, my heart yet guiding me with wisdom, and how to lay hold of folly, until I might see what it was good for the sons of men that they should do under heaven all the days of their lives.

¹³ Also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy good in all his labor, is the gift of God.

¹³ This is the end of the matter. All has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man.

¹⁰ For, “He who would love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit. ¹¹ Let him turn away from evil and do good. Let him seek peace and pursue it. ¹² For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears open to their prayer; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

¹ For the Chief Musician. For Jeduthun. A Psalm by David. I said, “I will watch my ways, so that I don’t sin with my tongue. I will keep my mouth with a bridle while the wicked is before me.”

¹¹ Destructive forces are within her. Threats and lies don’t depart from her streets.

³ Set a watch, Yahweh, before my mouth. Keep the door of my lips.

⁷ The wicked are overthrown, and are no more, but the house of the righteous shall stand.

¹⁹ Truth’s lips will be established forever, but a lying tongue is only momentary.

²² Lying lips are an abomination to Yahweh, but those who do the truth are his delight.

³ He who guards his mouth guards his soul. One who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.

²¹ Death and life are in the power of the tongue; those who love it will eat its fruit.

⁹ A false witness shall not be unpunished. He who utters lies shall perish.

²³ Whoever guards his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles.

⁸ For he said, “Surely, they are my people, children who will not deal falsely;” so he became their Savior.

³⁵ The good man out of his good treasure brings out good things, and the evil man out of his evil treasure brings out evil things. ³⁶ I tell you that every idle word that men speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. ³⁷ For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

⁹ Don’t lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his doings,

¹⁹ So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger;

²⁶ If anyone among you thinks himself to be religious while he doesn’t bridle his tongue, but deceives his heart, this man’s religion is worthless.

² For we all stumble in many things. Anyone who doesn’t stumble in word is a perfect person, able to bridle the whole body also.

⁵ So the tongue is also a little member, and boasts great things. See how a small fire can spread to a large forest! ⁶ And the tongue is a fire. The world of iniquity among our members is the tongue, which defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature, and is set on fire by Gehenna. ⁷ For every kind of animal, bird, creeping thing, and sea creature, is tamed, and has been tamed by mankind; ⁸ but nobody can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. ⁹ With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men who are made in the image of God. ¹⁰ Out of the same mouth comes blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so.

¹ Putting away therefore all wickedness, all deceit, hypocrisies, envies, and all evil speaking,

²² who didn’t sin, “neither was deceit found in his mouth.”

⁴ These are those who were not defiled with women, for they are virgins. These are those who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These were redeemed by Jesus from among men, the first fruits to God and to the Lamb. ⁵ In their mouth was found no lie, for they are blameless.

²⁸ To man he said, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom. To depart from evil is understanding.’”

²⁷ Depart from evil, and do good. Live securely forever.

⁷ I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war.

⁷ Don’t be wise in your own eyes. Fear Yahweh, and depart from evil.

¹³ The fear of Yahweh is to hate evil. I hate pride, arrogance, the evil way, and the perverse mouth.

¹⁴ The teaching of the wise is a spring of life, to turn from the snares of death.

¹⁶ How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! Yes, to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver. ¹⁷ The highway of the upright is to depart from evil. He who keeps his way preserves his soul.

¹⁶ Wash yourselves. Make yourself clean. Put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes. Cease to do evil. ¹⁷ Learn to do well. Seek justice. Relieve the oppressed. Defend the fatherless. Plead for the widow.”

⁹ Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.

³⁸ even Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.

⁹ Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor that which is evil. Cling to that which is good.

¹⁸ If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men.

¹⁷ for God’s Kingdom is not eating and drinking, but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.

¹⁹ So then, let’s follow after things which make for peace, and things by which we may build one another up.

¹¹ Finally, brothers, rejoice! Be perfected. Be comforted. Be of the same mind. Live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you.

¹⁰ So then, as we have opportunity, let’s do what is good toward all men, and especially toward those who are of the household of the faith.

¹¹ and that you make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, even as we instructed you;

¹⁹ However God’s firm foundation stands, having this seal, “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Let every one who names the name of the Lord depart from unrighteousness.”

¹⁴ who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify for himself a people for his own possession, zealous for good works.

¹⁴ Follow after peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no man will see the Lord,

¹⁶ But don’t forget to be doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. ¹⁸ Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.

¹¹ Let him turn away from evil and do good. Let him seek peace and pursue it.

¹¹ Beloved, don’t imitate that which is evil, but that which is good. He who does good is of God. He who does evil hasn’t seen God.

⁴⁰ “Now, my God, let, I beg you, your eyes be open, and let your ears be attentive, to the prayer that is made in this place.

⁷ He doesn’t withdraw his eyes from the righteous, but with kings on the throne, he sets them forever, and they are exalted.

¹⁸ Behold, Yahweh’s eye is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his loving kindness,

⁶ This poor man cried, and Yahweh heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.

¹⁷ The righteous cry, and Yahweh hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.

² Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my petitions.

¹⁴ Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it. Then Hezekiah went up to Yahweh’s house, and spread it before Yahweh. ¹⁵ Hezekiah prayed to Yahweh, saying, ¹⁶ “Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, who is enthroned among the cherubim, you are the God, even you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth. ¹⁷ Turn your ear, Yahweh, and hear. Open your eyes, Yahweh, and behold. Hear all of the words of Sennacherib, who has sent to defy the living God. ¹⁸ Truly, Yahweh, the kings of Assyria have destroyed all the countries and their land, ¹⁹ and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone; therefore they have destroyed them. ²⁰ Now therefore, Yahweh our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you are Yahweh, even you only.” ²¹ Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, “Yahweh, the God of Israel says, ‘Because you have prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria,

¹⁷ “Now therefore, our God, listen to the prayer of your servant, and to his petitions, and cause your face to shine on your sanctuary that is desolate, for the Lord’s sake. ¹⁸ My God, turn your ear, and hear. Open your eyes, and see our desolations, and the city which is called by your name; for we do not present our petitions before you for our righteousness, but for your great mercies’ sake. ¹⁹ Lord, hear. Lord, forgive. Lord, listen and do. Don’t defer, for your own sake, my God, because your city and your people are called by your name.” ²⁰ While I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before Yahweh my God for the holy mountain of my God; ²¹ yes, while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening offering. ²² He instructed me and talked with me, and said, “Daniel, I have now come to give you wisdom and understanding. ²³ At the beginning of your petitions the commandment went out, and I have come to tell you; for you are greatly beloved. Therefore consider the matter, and understand the vision.

¹² For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears open to their prayer; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

¹⁰ “‘Any man of the house of Israel, or of the strangers who live as foreigners among them, who eats any kind of blood, I will set my face against that soul who eats blood, and will cut him off from among his people.

¹⁷ I will set my face against you, and you will be struck before your enemies. Those who hate you will rule over you; and you will flee when no one pursues you.

¹⁷ His memory will perish from the earth. He will have no name in the street.

¹⁶ Yahweh is King forever and ever! The nations will perish out of his land.

⁷ The memory of the righteous is blessed, but the name of the wicked will rot.

¹⁰ So I saw the wicked buried. Indeed they came also from holiness. They went and were forgotten in the city where they did this. This also is vanity.

¹³ Yahweh, the hope of Israel, all who forsake you will be disappointed. Those who depart from me will be written in the earth, because they have forsaken Yahweh, the spring of living waters.

¹¹ “Therefore Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘Behold, I will set my face against you for evil, even to cut off all Judah.

⁷ “‘“For everyone of the house of Israel, or of the strangers who live in Israel, who separates himself from me, and takes his idols into his heart, and puts the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and comes to the prophet to inquire for himself of me; I Yahweh will answer him by myself. ⁸ I will set my face against that man, and will make him an astonishment, for a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from among my people. Then you will know that I am Yahweh.

⁴ Though they go into captivity before their enemies, there I will command the sword, and it will kill them. I will set my eyes on them for evil, and not for good.

²⁰ Hezekiah the king and Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz, prayed because of this, and cried to heaven. ²¹ Yahweh sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty men of valor, and the leaders and captains, in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. When he had come into the house of his god, those who came out of his own body killed him there with the sword.

²⁴ In those days Hezekiah was terminally ill, and he prayed to Yahweh; and he spoke to him, and gave him a sign.

¹⁵ Yahweh’s eyes are toward the righteous. His ears listen to their cry.

¹⁹ Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but Yahweh delivers him out of them all.

¹⁵ He will call on me, and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him, and honor him.

¹⁸ Yahweh is near to all those who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. ¹⁹ He will fulfill the desire of those who fear him. He also will hear their cry, and will save them. ²⁰ Yahweh preserves all those who love him, but he will destroy all the wicked.

²⁴ It will happen that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.

⁵ Peter therefore was kept in the prison, but constant prayer was made by the assembly to God for him. ⁶ The same night when Herod was about to bring him out, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains. Guards in front of the door kept the prison. ⁷ And behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side, and woke him up, saying, “Stand up quickly!” His chains fell off his hands. ⁸ The angel said to him, “Get dressed and put on your sandals.” He did so. He said to him, “Put on your cloak and follow me.” ⁹ And he went out and followed him. He didn’t know that what was being done by the angel was real, but thought he saw a vision. ¹⁰ When they were past the first and the second guard, they came to the iron gate that leads into the city, which opened to them by itself. They went out, and went down one street, and immediately the angel departed from him. ¹¹ When Peter had come to himself, he said, “Now I truly know that the Lord has sent out his angel and delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from everything the Jewish people were expecting.”

¹⁹ because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before Yahweh, when you heard what I spoke against this place, and against its inhabitants, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and have torn your clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard you,’ says Yahweh.

¹⁷ The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit. O God, you will not despise a broken and contrite heart.

⁹ Surely his salvation is near those who fear him, that glory may dwell in our land.

¹⁵¹ You are near, Yahweh. All your commandments are truth.

¹⁸ Yahweh is near to all those who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.

³ He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.

⁶ Seek Yahweh while he may be found. Call on him while he is near.

¹⁵ For the high and lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy, says: “I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also who is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite.

¹ The Lord Yahweh’s Spirit is on me, because Yahweh has anointed me to preach good news to the humble. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and release to those who are bound,

² For my hand has made all these things, and so all these things came to be,” says Yahweh: “but I will look to this man, even to he who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at my word.

²⁶ I will also give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.

³¹ “‘“Then you will remember your evil ways, and your deeds that were not good; and you will loathe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations.

¹⁸ “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the broken hearted, to proclaim release to the captives, recovering of sight to the blind, to deliver those who are crushed,

¹⁹ He will deliver you in six troubles; yes, in seven no evil will touch you.

⁹ “Now I have become their song. Yes, I am a byword to them. ¹⁰ They abhor me, they stand aloof from me, and don’t hesitate to spit in my face. ¹¹ For he has untied his cord, and afflicted me; and they have thrown off restraint before me. ¹² On my right hand rise the rabble. They thrust aside my feet, They cast up against me their ways of destruction. ¹³ They mar my path. They promote my destruction without anyone’s help. ¹⁴ As through a wide breach they come. They roll themselves in amid the ruin. ¹⁵ Terrors have turned on me. They chase my honor as the wind. My welfare has passed away as a cloud. ¹⁶ “Now my soul is poured out within me. Days of affliction have taken hold of me. ¹⁷ In the night season my bones are pierced in me, and the pains that gnaw me take no rest. ¹⁸ My garment is disfigured by great force. It binds me about as the collar of my tunic. ¹⁹ He has cast me into the mire. I have become like dust and ashes. ²⁰ I cry to you, and you do not answer me. I stand up, and you gaze at me. ²¹ You have turned to be cruel to me. With the might of your hand you persecute me. ²² You lift me up to the wind, and drive me with it. You dissolve me in the storm. ²³ For I know that you will bring me to death, To the house appointed for all living. ²⁴ “However doesn’t one stretch out a hand in his fall? Or in his calamity therefore cry for help? ²⁵ Didn’t I weep for him who was in trouble? Wasn’t my soul grieved for the needy? ²⁶ When I looked for good, then evil came. When I waited for light, darkness came. ²⁷ My heart is troubled, and doesn’t rest. Days of affliction have come on me. ²⁸ I go mourning without the sun. I stand up in the assembly, and cry for help. ²⁹ I am a brother to jackals, and a companion to ostriches. ³⁰ My skin grows black and peels from me. My bones are burned with heat. ³¹ Therefore my harp has turned to mourning, and my pipe into the voice of those who weep.

¹² So Yahweh blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand female donkeys.

⁴ I sought Yahweh, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears.

²⁰ You, who have shown us many and bitter troubles, you will let me live. You will bring us up again from the depths of the earth.

¹⁶ for a righteous man falls seven times and rises up again; but the wicked are overthrown by calamity.

³³ I have told you these things, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have trouble; but cheer up! I have overcome the world.”

²² strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that through many afflictions we must enter into God’s Kingdom.

⁷ But we have this treasure in clay vessels, that the exceeding greatness of the power may be of God, and not from ourselves. ⁸ We are pressed on every side, yet not crushed; perplexed, yet not to despair; ⁹ pursued, yet not forsaken; struck down, yet not destroyed; ¹⁰ always carrying in the body the putting to death of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. ¹¹ For we who live are always delivered to death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus may be revealed in our mortal flesh. ¹² So then death works in us, but life in you.

¹⁷ For our light affliction, which is for the moment, works for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory,

²³ Are they servants of Christ? (I speak as one beside himself.) I am more so: in labors more abundantly, in prisons more abundantly, in stripes above measure, and in deaths often. ²⁴ Five times I received forty stripes minus one from the Jews. ²⁵ Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I suffered shipwreck. I have been a night and a day in the deep. ²⁶ I have been in travels often, perils of rivers, perils of robbers, perils from my countrymen, perils from the Gentiles, perils in the city, perils in the wilderness, perils in the sea, perils among false brothers; ²⁷ in labor and travail, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, and in cold and nakedness.

³ that no one would be moved by these afflictions. For you know that we are appointed to this task. ⁴ For most certainly, when we were with you, we told you beforehand that we are to suffer affliction, even as it happened, and you know.

¹¹ persecutions, and sufferings: those things that happened to me at Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. I endured those persecutions. The Lord delivered me out of them all. ¹² Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.

³³ who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked out righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, ³⁴ quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong, grew mighty in war, and caused foreign armies to flee. ³⁵ Women received their dead by resurrection. Others were tortured, not accepting their deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection. ³⁶ Others were tried by mocking and scourging, yes, moreover by bonds and imprisonment. ³⁷ They were stoned. They were sawn apart. They were tempted. They were slain with the sword. They went around in sheep skins and in goat skins; being destitute, afflicted, ill-treated— ³⁸ of whom the world was not worthy—wandering in deserts, mountains, caves, and the holes of the earth.

¹⁰ Take, brothers, for an example of suffering and of perseverance, the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. ¹¹ Behold, we call them blessed who endured. You have heard of the perseverance of Job, and have seen the Lord in the outcome, and how the Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

¹² Beloved, don’t be astonished at the fiery trial which has come upon you to test you, as though a strange thing happened to you. ¹³ But because you are partakers of Christ’s sufferings, rejoice, that at the revelation of his glory you also may rejoice with exceeding joy.

¹⁰ All my bones shall say, “Yahweh, who is like you, who delivers the poor from him who is too strong for him; yes, the poor and the needy from him who robs him?”

¹² They will bear you up in their hands, so that you won’t dash your foot against a stone.

²² My God has sent his angel, and has shut the lions’ mouths, and they have not hurt me; because as before him innocence was found in me; and also before you, O king, I have done no harm.” ²³ Then the king was exceedingly glad, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no kind of harm was found on him, because he had trusted in his God. ²⁴ The king commanded, and they brought those men who had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions mauled them, and broke all their bones in pieces, before they came to the bottom of the den.

³⁶ For these things happened that the Scripture might be fulfilled, “A bone of him will not be broken.”

⁷ “You shall not misuse the name of Yahweh your God, for Yahweh will not hold him guiltless who misuses his name.

⁴ Jonathan spoke good of David to Saul his father, and said to him, “Don’t let the king sin against his servant, against David; because he has not sinned against you, and because his works have been very good toward you; ⁵ for he put his life in his hand, and struck the Philistine, and Yahweh worked a great victory for all Israel. You saw it, and rejoiced. Why then will you sin against innocent blood, to kill David without a cause?”

⁴ Then Saul said to his armor bearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me!” But his armor bearer would not; for he was terrified. Therefore Saul took his sword, and fell on it.

⁸ The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is yet one man by whom we may inquire of Yahweh, Micaiah the son of Imlah; but I hate him, for he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil.” Jehoshaphat said, “Don’t let the king say so.”

³⁷ So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria.

¹² The wicked plots against the just, and gnashes at him with his teeth. ¹³ The Lord will laugh at him, for he sees that his day is coming. ¹⁴ The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, to kill those who are upright on the path. ¹⁵ Their sword shall enter into their own heart. Their bows shall be broken.

³⁰ The mouth of the righteous talks of wisdom. His tongue speaks justice. ³¹ The law of his God is in his heart. None of his steps shall slide. ³² The wicked watch the righteous, and seek to kill him. ³³ Yahweh will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged. ³⁴ Wait for Yahweh, and keep his way, and he will exalt you to inherit the land. When the wicked are cut off, you shall see it. ³⁵ I have seen the wicked in great power, spreading himself like a green tree in its native soil. ³⁶ But he passed away, and behold, he was not. Yes, I sought him, but he could not be found. ³⁷ Mark the perfect man, and see the upright, for there is a future for the man of peace. ³⁸ As for transgressors, they shall be destroyed together. The future of the wicked shall be cut off. ³⁹ But the salvation of the righteous is from Yahweh. He is their stronghold in the time of trouble. ⁴⁰ Yahweh helps them and rescues them. He rescues them from the wicked and saves them, because they have taken refuge in him.

¹⁵ Let them be desolate by reason of their shame that tell me, “Aha! Aha!”

²³ I will beat down his adversaries before him, and strike those who hate him.

²³ He has brought on them their own iniquity, and will cut them off in their own wickedness. Yahweh, our God, will cut them off.

¹¹ Woe to the wicked! Disaster is upon them; for the deeds of his hands will be paid back to him.

¹⁴ But his citizens hated him, and sent an envoy after him, saying, ‘We don’t want this man to reign over us.’

²⁷ But bring those enemies of mine who didn’t want me to reign over them here, and kill them before me.’”

⁴¹ When he came near, he saw the city and wept over it, ⁴² saying, “If you, even you, had known today the things which belong to your peace! But now, they are hidden from your eyes. ⁴³ For the days will come on you, when your enemies will throw up a barricade against you, surround you, hem you in on every side, ⁴⁴ and will dash you and your children within you to the ground. They will not leave in you one stone on another, because you didn’t know the time of your visitation.”

⁷ The world can’t hate you, but it hates me, because I testify about it, that its works are evil.

¹⁸ If the world hates you, you know that it has hated me before it hated you. ¹⁹ If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, since I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. ²⁰ Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his lord.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. ²¹ But they will do all these things to you for my name’s sake, because they don’t know him who sent me. ²² If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have had sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. ²³ He who hates me, hates my Father also.

¹⁵ who killed both the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and drove us out, and don’t please God, and are contrary to all men, ¹⁶ forbidding us to speak to the Gentiles that they may be saved, to fill up their sins always. But wrath has come on them to the uttermost.

⁶ Since it is a righteous thing with God to repay affliction to those who afflict you,

⁹ who will pay the penalty: eternal destruction from the face of the Lord and from the glory of his might,

⁹ David answered Rechab and Baanah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, and said to them, “As Yahweh lives, who has redeemed my soul out of all adversity,

²⁹ The king swore, and said, “As Yahweh lives, who has redeemed my soul out of all adversity,

⁹ Yahweh will also be a high tower for the oppressed; a high tower in times of trouble. ¹⁰ Those who know your name will put their trust in you, for you, Yahweh, have not forsaken those who seek you.

⁵ Into your hand I commend my spirit. You redeem me, Yahweh, God of truth.

²³ My lips shall shout for joy! My soul, which you have redeemed, sings praises to you!

¹¹ For Yahweh God is a sun and a shield. Yahweh will give grace and glory. He withholds no good thing from those who walk blamelessly. ¹² Yahweh of Armies, blessed is the man who trusts in you.

⁴ who redeems your life from destruction, who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies,

⁸ He will redeem Israel from all their sins.

⁵⁸ Lord, you have pleaded the causes of my soul. You have redeemed my life.

²⁷ My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. ²⁸ I give eternal life to them. They will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. ²⁹ My Father who has given them to me is greater than all. No one is able to snatch them out of my Father’s hand.

³¹ What then shall we say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? ³² He who didn’t spare his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how would he not also with him freely give us all things? ³³ Who could bring a charge against God’s chosen ones? It is God who justifies. ³⁴ Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, yes rather, who was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. ³⁵ Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Could oppression, or anguish, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? ³⁶ Even as it is written, “For your sake we are killed all day long. We were accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” ³⁷ No, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. ³⁸ For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, ³⁹ nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from God’s love which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

⁵ who by the power of God are guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

¹⁸ knowing that you were redeemed, not with corruptible things, with silver or gold, from the useless way of life handed down from your fathers, ¹⁹ but with precious blood, as of a lamb without blemish or spot, the blood of Christ,

⁹ They sang a new song, saying, “You are worthy to take the book and to open its seals: for you were killed, and bought us for God with your blood out of every tribe, language, people, and nation,
