¹ Listen, sons, to a father’s instruction. Pay attention and know understanding; ² for I give you sound learning. Don’t forsake my law. ³ For I was a son to my father, tender and an only child in the sight of my mother. ⁴ He taught me, and said to me: “Let your heart retain my words. Keep my commandments, and live. ⁵ Get wisdom. Get understanding. Don’t forget, and don’t deviate from the words of my mouth. ⁶ Don’t forsake her, and she will preserve you. Love her, and she will keep you. ⁷ Wisdom is supreme. Get wisdom. Yes, though it costs all your possessions, get understanding. ⁸ Esteem her, and she will exalt you. She will bring you to honor when you embrace her. ⁹ She will give to your head a garland of grace. She will deliver a crown of splendor to you.” ¹⁰ Listen, my son, and receive my sayings. The years of your life will be many. ¹¹ I have taught you in the way of wisdom. I have led you in straight paths. ¹² When you go, your steps will not be hampered. When you run, you will not stumble. ¹³ Take firm hold of instruction. Don’t let her go. Keep her, for she is your life. ¹⁴ Don’t enter into the path of the wicked. Don’t walk in the way of evil men. ¹⁵ Avoid it, and don’t pass by it. Turn from it, and pass on. ¹⁶ For they don’t sleep unless they do evil. Their sleep is taken away, unless they make someone fall. ¹⁷ For they eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence. ¹⁸ But the path of the righteous is like the dawning light that shines more and more until the perfect day. ¹⁹ The way of the wicked is like darkness. They don’t know what they stumble over. ²⁰ My son, attend to my words. Turn your ear to my sayings. ²¹ Let them not depart from your eyes. Keep them in the center of your heart. ²² For they are life to those who find them, and health to their whole body. ²³ Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life. ²⁴ Put away from yourself a perverse mouth. Put corrupt lips far from you. ²⁵ Let your eyes look straight ahead. Fix your gaze directly before you. ²⁶ Make the path of your feet level. Let all of your ways be established. ²⁷ Don’t turn to the right hand nor to the left. Remove your foot from evil.

¹¹ Come, you children, listen to me. I will teach you the fear of Yahweh.

⁸ My son, listen to your father’s instruction, and don’t forsake your mother’s teaching:

¹ My son, if you will receive my words, and store up my commandments within you, ² so as to turn your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; ³ yes, if you call out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding; ⁴ if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures: ⁵ then you will understand the fear of Yahweh, and find the knowledge of God.

¹ My son, pay attention to my wisdom. Turn your ear to my understanding,

²⁰ My son, keep your father’s commandment, and don’t forsake your mother’s teaching. ²¹ Bind them continually on your heart. Tie them around your neck. ²² When you walk, it will lead you. When you sleep, it will watch over you. When you awake, it will talk with you. ²³ For the commandment is a lamp, and the law is light. Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,

⁴ Tell wisdom, “You are my sister.” Call understanding your relative,

³² “Now therefore, my sons, listen to me, for blessed are those who keep my ways. ³³ Hear instruction, and be wise. Don’t refuse it. ³⁴ Blessed is the man who hears me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at my door posts. ³⁵ For whoever finds me, finds life, and will obtain favor from Yahweh. ³⁶ But he who sins against me wrongs his own soul. All those who hate me love death.”

²⁰ Listen to counsel and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter end.

¹⁷ Turn your ear, and listen to the words of the wise. Apply your heart to my teaching.

¹¹ As you know, we exhorted, comforted, and implored every one of you, as a father does his own children, ¹² to the end that you should walk worthily of God, who calls you into his own Kingdom and glory.

¹ Therefore we ought to pay greater attention to the things that were heard, lest perhaps we drift away.

² My doctrine will drop as the rain. My speech will condense as the dew, as the misty rain on the tender grass, as the showers on the herb.

⁹ You, Solomon my son, know the God of your father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind; for Yahweh searches all hearts, and understands all the imaginations of the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever.

¹⁹ But if you turn away, and forsake my statutes and my commandments which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them;

⁴ For you say, ‘My doctrine is pure. I am clean in your eyes.’

³ My words will utter the uprightness of my heart. That which my lips know they will speak sincerely.

¹ For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by the sons of Korah. Hear this, all you peoples. Listen, all you inhabitants of the world, ² both low and high, rich and poor together. ³ My mouth will speak words of wisdom. My heart will utter understanding.

³⁰ If his children forsake my law, and don’t walk in my ordinances; ³¹ if they break my statutes, and don’t keep my commandments; ³² then I will punish their sin with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.

⁶ Hear, for I will speak excellent things. The opening of my lips is for right things. ⁷ For my mouth speaks truth. Wickedness is an abomination to my lips. ⁸ All the words of my mouth are in righteousness. There is nothing crooked or perverse in them. ⁹ They are all plain to him who understands, right to those who find knowledge.

²⁰ Haven’t I written to you thirty excellent things of counsel and knowledge, ²¹ To teach you truth, reliable words, to give sound answers to the ones who sent you?

¹⁶ Jesus therefore answered them, “My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me. ¹⁷ If anyone desires to do his will, he will know about the teaching, whether it is from God, or if I am speaking from myself.

⁶ If you instruct the brothers of these things, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, nourished in the words of the faith, and of the good doctrine which you have followed.

⁹ holding to the faithful word which is according to the teaching, that he may be able to exhort in the sound doctrine, and to convict those who contradict him.

²⁴ David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her, and lay with her. She bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. Yahweh loved him; ²⁵ and he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet, and he named him Jedidiah, for Yahweh’s sake.

¹³ Go in to king David, and tell him, ‘Didn’t you, my lord, king, swear to your servant, saying, “Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne?” Why then does Adonijah reign?’ ¹⁴ Behold, while you are still talking there with the king, I will also come in after you and confirm your words.” ¹⁵ Bathsheba went in to the king in his room. The king was very old; and Abishag the Shunammite was serving the king. ¹⁶ Bathsheba bowed, and showed respect to the king. The king said, “What would you like?” ¹⁷ She said to him, “My lord, you swore by Yahweh your God to your servant, ‘Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne.’

⁵ and these were born to him in Jerusalem: Shimea, Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon, four, of Bathshua the daughter of Ammiel;

⁵ David said, “Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be built for Yahweh must be exceedingly magnificent, of fame and of glory throughout all countries. I will therefore make preparation for it.” So David prepared abundantly before his death.

¹ David the king said to all the assembly, “Solomon my son, whom alone God has chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great; for the palace is not for man, but for Yahweh God.

²³ Yahweh, I know that the way of man is not in himself. It is not in man who walks to direct his steps.

¹⁰ I will pour on David’s house, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplication; and they will look to me whom they have pierced; and they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for his only son, and will grieve bitterly for him, as one grieves for his firstborn.

¹⁶ Be of the same mind one toward another. Don’t set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Don’t be wise in your own conceits.

¹⁹ For I have known him, to the end that he may command his children and his household after him, that they may keep the way of Yahweh, to do righteousness and justice; to the end that Yahweh may bring on Abraham that which he has spoken of him.”

³ You shall not do as they do in the land of Egypt, where you lived. You shall not do as they do in the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you. You shall not follow their statutes. ⁴ You shall do my ordinances. You shall keep my statutes and walk in them. I am Yahweh your God. ⁵ You shall therefore keep my statutes and my ordinances, which if a man does, he shall live in them. I am Yahweh.

⁹ Only be careful, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things which your eyes saw, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life; but make them known to your children and your children’s children—

⁶ These words, which I command you today, shall be on your heart;

¹¹ Now, my son, may Yahweh be with you and prosper you, and build the house of Yahweh your God, as he has spoken concerning you. ¹² May Yahweh give you discretion and understanding, and put you in charge of Israel; that so you may keep the law of Yahweh your God. ¹³ Then you will prosper, if you observe to do the statutes and the ordinances which Yahweh gave Moses concerning Israel. Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid, and don’t be dismayed. ¹⁴ Now, behold, in my affliction I have prepared for Yahweh’s house one hundred thousand talents of gold, one million talents of silver, and bronze and iron without weight; for it is in abundance. I have also prepared timber and stone; and you may add to them. ¹⁵ There are also workmen with you in abundance, cutters and workers of stone and timber, and all kinds of men who are skillful in every kind of work; ¹⁶ of the gold, the silver, the bronze, and the iron, there is no number. Arise and be doing, and may Yahweh be with you.”

¹¹ I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

¹ My son, don’t forget my teaching; but let your heart keep my commandments:

² Keep my commandments and live! Guard my teaching as the apple of your eye.

⁶ Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.

³ Turn your ear, and come to me. Hear, and your soul will live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.

⁵⁰ I know that his commandment is eternal life. The things therefore which I speak, even as the Father has said to me, so I speak.”

⁴ You fathers, don’t provoke your children to wrath, but nurture them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

⁵ having been reminded of the sincere faith that is in you, which lived first in your grandmother Lois, and your mother Eunice, and, I am persuaded, in you also.

¹⁵ From infancy, you have known the holy Scriptures which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith, which is in Christ Jesus.

⁹ Having been made perfect, he became to all of those who obey him the author of eternal salvation,

² He did that which was right in Yahweh’s eyes, and walked in the ways of David his father, and didn’t turn away to the right hand or to the left.

¹¹ My foot has held fast to his steps. I have kept his way, and not turned away.

¹⁸ Our heart has not turned back, neither have our steps strayed from your path,

⁵¹ The arrogant mock me excessively, but I don’t swerve from your law.

¹⁵⁷ Many are my persecutors and my adversaries. I haven’t swerved from your testimonies.

²² “How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? How long will mockers delight themselves in mockery, and fools hate knowledge? ²³ Turn at my reproof. Behold, I will pour out my spirit on you. I will make known my words to you.

² so as to turn your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; ³ yes, if you call out for discernment, and lift up your voice for understanding; ⁴ if you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures:

¹³ Happy is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gets understanding. ¹⁴ For her good profit is better than getting silver, and her return is better than fine gold. ¹⁵ She is more precious than rubies. None of the things you can desire are to be compared to her. ¹⁶ Length of days is in her right hand. In her left hand are riches and honor. ¹⁷ Her ways are ways of pleasantness. All her paths are peace. ¹⁸ She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her. Happy is everyone who retains her.

⁵ You simple, understand prudence! You fools, be of an understanding heart!

¹⁶ How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! Yes, to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.

¹⁶ Why is there money in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, since he has no understanding?

¹ A man who isolates himself pursues selfishness, and defies all sound judgment.

⁸ He who gets wisdom loves his own soul. He who keeps understanding shall find good.

²³ Buy the truth, and don’t sell it. Get wisdom, discipline, and understanding.

⁵ But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

¹⁰ For wisdom will enter into your heart. Knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. ¹¹ Discretion will watch over you. Understanding will keep you, ¹² to deliver you from the way of evil, from the men who speak perverse things,

²¹ Let them not depart from your eyes. Keep them in the center of your heart. ²² For they are life to those who find them, and health to their whole body.

¹⁷ that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, to the end that you, being rooted and grounded in love,

¹⁰ and with all deception of wickedness for those who are being lost, because they didn’t receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

¹⁶ Don’t be afraid when a man is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased; ¹⁷ for when he dies he will carry nothing away. His glory won’t descend after him. ¹⁸ Though while he lived he blessed his soul— and men praise you when you do well for yourself— ¹⁹ he shall go to the generation of his fathers. They shall never see the light. ²⁰ A man who has riches without understanding, is like the animals that perish.

¹⁰⁴ Through your precepts, I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way.

⁶ Getting treasures by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor for those who seek death.

⁴ I made myself great works. I built myself houses. I planted myself vineyards. ⁵ I made myself gardens and parks, and I planted trees in them of all kinds of fruit. ⁶ I made myself pools of water, to water from it the forest where trees were grown. ⁷ I bought male servants and female servants, and had servants born in my house. I also had great possessions of herds and flocks, above all who were before me in Jerusalem. ⁸ I also gathered silver and gold for myself, and the treasure of kings and of the provinces. I got myself male and female singers, and the delights of the sons of men: musical instruments, and that of all sorts. ⁹ So I was great, and increased more than all who were before me in Jerusalem. My wisdom also remained with me.

⁸ There is one who is alone, and he has neither son nor brother. There is no end to all of his labor, neither are his eyes satisfied with wealth. “For whom then, do I labor and deprive my soul of enjoyment?” This also is vanity. Yes, it is a miserable business.

¹² For wisdom is a defense, even as money is a defense; but the excellency of knowledge is that wisdom preserves the life of him who has it.

¹⁶ Then I said, “Wisdom is better than strength.” Nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard. ¹⁷ The words of the wise heard in quiet are better than the cry of him who rules among fools. ¹⁸ Wisdom is better than weapons of war; but one sinner destroys much good.

⁴⁴ “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like treasure hidden in the field, which a man found, and hid. In his joy, he goes and sells all that he has, and buys that field. ⁴⁵ “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who is a merchant seeking fine pearls, ⁴⁶ who having found one pearl of great price, he went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

³⁶ For what does it profit a man, to gain the whole world, and forfeit his life? ³⁷ For what will a man give in exchange for his life?

⁴² but one thing is needed. Mary has chosen the good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

²⁰ “But God said to him, ‘You foolish one, tonight your soul is required of you. The things which you have prepared—whose will they be?’

⁸ Yes most certainly, and I count all things to be a loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus, my Lord, for whom I suffered the loss of all things, and count them nothing but refuse, that I may gain Christ

³⁰ “Therefore Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, ‘I said indeed that your house and the house of your father should walk before me forever.’ But now Yahweh says, ‘Far be it from me; for those who honor me I will honor, and those who despise me will be cursed.

⁵ In Gibeon, Yahweh appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask for what I should give you.” ⁶ Solomon said, “You have shown to your servant David my father great loving kindness, because he walked before you in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with you. You have kept for him this great loving kindness, that you have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is today. ⁷ Now, Yahweh my God, you have made your servant king instead of David my father. I am just a little child. I don’t know how to go out or come in. ⁸ Your servant is among your people which you have chosen, a great people, that can’t be numbered or counted for multitude. ⁹ Give your servant therefore an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and evil; for who is able to judge this great people of yours?” ¹⁰ This request pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. ¹¹ God said to him, “Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked for yourself long life, nor have you asked for riches for yourself, nor have you asked for the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice; ¹² behold, I have done according to your word. Behold, I have given you a wise and understanding heart; so that there has been no one like you before you, and after you none will arise like you. ¹³ I have also given you that which you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that there will not be any among the kings like you for all your days.

³⁵ The wise will inherit glory, but shame will be the promotion of fools.

⁴ The result of humility and the fear of Yahweh is wealth, honor, and life.

³ Those who are wise will shine as the brightness of the expanse. Those who turn many to righteousness will shine as the stars forever and ever.

⁹ for they will be a garland to grace your head, and chains around your neck.

²² so they will be life to your soul, and grace for your neck.

³¹ Gray hair is a crown of glory. It is attained by a life of righteousness.

⁵ In that day, Yahweh of Armies will become a crown of glory and a diadem of beauty to the residue of his people,

⁹ In the same way, that women also adorn themselves in decent clothing, with modesty and propriety, not just with braided hair, gold, pearls, or expensive clothing, ¹⁰ but with good works, which is appropriate for women professing godliness.

⁷ You made him a little lower than the angels. You crowned him with glory and honor. ⁸ You have put all things in subjection under his feet.” For in that he subjected all things to him, he left nothing that is not subject to him. But now we don’t see all things subjected to him, yet. ⁹ But we see him who has been made a little lower than the angels, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that by the grace of God he should taste of death for everyone.

⁴ but in the hidden person of the heart, in the incorruptible adornment of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.

⁴ When the chief Shepherd is revealed, you will receive the crown of glory that doesn’t fade away.

²¹ He who overcomes, I will give to him to sit down with me on my throne, as I also overcame, and sat down with my Father on his throne.

¹⁶ “Honor your father and your mother, as Yahweh your God commanded you; that your days may be long, and that it may go well with you in the land which Yahweh your God gives you.

² that you might fear Yahweh your God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command you—you, your son, and your son’s son, all the days of your life; and that your days may be prolonged.

²² Please receive instruction from his mouth, and lay up his words in your heart.

¹ My son, if you will receive my words, and store up my commandments within you,

² for they will add to you length of days, years of life, and peace.

¹⁰ Receive my instruction rather than silver, knowledge rather than choice gold.

²⁰ Yet hear Yahweh’s word, you women. Let your ear receive the word of his mouth. Teach your daughters wailing. Everyone teach her neighbor a lamentation.

³² What he has seen and heard, of that he testifies; and no one receives his witness. ³³ He who has received his witness has set his seal to this, that God is true.

¹³ For this cause we also thank God without ceasing, that when you received from us the word of the message of God, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also works in you who believe.

¹⁵ The saying is faithful and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.

⁵ Behold, I have taught you statutes and ordinances, even as Yahweh my God commanded me, that you should do so in the middle of the land where you go in to possess it.

²³ Moreover as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against Yahweh in ceasing to pray for you: but I will instruct you in the good and the right way. ²⁴ Only fear Yahweh, and serve him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things he has done for you.

³ He restores my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

⁴ Show me your ways, Yahweh. Teach me your paths. ⁵ Guide me in your truth, and teach me, For you are the God of my salvation, I wait for you all day long.

⁴ He taught me, and said to me: “Let your heart retain my words. Keep my commandments, and live.

⁶ Hear, for I will speak excellent things. The opening of my lips is for right things.

⁹ They are all plain to him who understands, right to those who find knowledge.

²⁰ I walk in the way of righteousness, in the middle of the paths of justice,

⁹ Further, because the Preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge. Yes, he pondered, sought out, and set in order many proverbs.

¹⁰ and said, “You son of the devil, full of all deceit and all cunning, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

³⁷ You have enlarged my steps under me. My feet have not slipped.

⁷ The steps of his strength will be shortened. His own counsel will cast him down. ⁸ For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he wanders into its mesh.

³⁶ You have enlarged my steps under me, My feet have not slipped.

¹¹ For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways. ¹² They will bear you up in their hands, so that you won’t dash your foot against a stone.

¹⁶⁵ Those who love your law have great peace. Nothing causes them to stumble.

²³ Then you shall walk in your way securely. Your foot won’t stumble.

¹⁹ The way of the wicked is like darkness. They don’t know what they stumble over.

²² When you walk, it will lead you. When you sleep, it will watch over you. When you awake, it will talk with you.

⁹ They will come with weeping. I will lead them with petitions. I will cause them to walk by rivers of waters, in a straight way in which they won’t stumble; for I am a father to Israel. Ephraim is my firstborn.

⁹ Jesus answered, “Aren’t there twelve hours of daylight? If a man walks in the day, he doesn’t stumble, because he sees the light of this world. ¹⁰ But if a man walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light isn’t in him.”

³² Why? Because they didn’t seek it by faith, but as it were by works of the law. They stumbled over the stumbling stone; ³³ even as it is written, “Behold, I lay in Zion a stumbling stone and a rock of offense; and no one who believes in him will be disappointed.”

⁸ and, “a stumbling stone and a rock of offense.” For they stumble at the word, being disobedient, to which also they were appointed.

¹⁰ He who loves his brother remains in the light, and there is no occasion for stumbling in him. ¹¹ But he who hates his brother is in the darkness, and walks in the darkness, and doesn’t know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

²⁶ The man said, “Let me go, for the day breaks.” Jacob said, “I won’t let you go unless you bless me.”

⁴⁷ For it is no vain thing for you, because it is your life, and through this thing you shall prolong your days in the land, where you go over the Jordan to possess it.”

¹⁸ She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her. Happy is everyone who retains her.

⁴ I had scarcely passed from them, when I found him whom my soul loves. I held him, and would not let him go, until I had brought him into my mother’s house, into the room of her who conceived me.

²⁷ Beginning from Moses and from all the prophets, he explained to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself. ²⁸ They came near to the village where they were going, and he acted like he would go further. ²⁹ They urged him, saying, “Stay with us, for it is almost evening, and the day is almost over.” He went in to stay with them.

³⁹ From that city many of the Samaritans believed in him because of the word of the woman, who testified, “He told me everything that I did.” ⁴⁰ So when the Samaritans came to him, they begged him to stay with them. He stayed there two days. ⁴¹ Many more believed because of his word. ⁴² They said to the woman, “Now we believe, not because of your speaking; for we have heard for ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.”

⁶⁸ Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life.

⁴² They continued steadfastly in the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and prayer.

²³ who, when he had come, and had seen the grace of God, was glad. He exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they should remain near to the Lord.

²¹ Test all things, and hold firmly that which is good.

¹³ “I know your works and where you dwell, where Satan’s throne is. You hold firmly to my name, and didn’t deny my faith in the days of Antipas my witness, my faithful one, who was killed among you, where Satan dwells.

¹¹ They overcame him because of the Lamb’s blood, and because of the word of their testimony. They didn’t love their life, even to death.

¹ Blessed is the man who doesn’t walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand on the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers;

⁴ I have not sat with deceitful men, neither will I go in with hypocrites. ⁵ I hate the assembly of evildoers, and will not sit with the wicked.

¹⁰ My son, if sinners entice you, don’t consent.

¹⁵ My son, don’t walk on the path with them. Keep your foot from their path,

⁶ Leave your simple ways, and live. Walk in the way of understanding.”

²⁰ One who walks with wise men grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.

³³ Don’t be deceived! “Evil companionships corrupt good morals.”

⁷ “Keep far from a false charge, and don’t kill the innocent and righteous; for I will not justify the wicked.

¹⁴ If iniquity is in your hand, put it far away. Don’t let unrighteousness dwell in your tents.

²³ If you return to the Almighty, you will be built up, if you put away unrighteousness far from your tents.

⁸ Remove your way far from her. Don’t come near the door of her house,

⁵ Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the snare of the fowler.

¹⁵ He who walks righteously and speaks blamelessly, he who despises the gain of oppressions, who gestures with his hands, refusing to take a bribe, who stops his ears from hearing of blood, and shuts his eyes from looking at evil—

¹¹ Have no fellowship with the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but rather even reprove them.

²² Abstain from every form of evil.

⁴ He plots iniquity on his bed. He sets himself in a way that is not good. He doesn’t abhor evil.

¹⁶ for their feet run to evil. They hurry to shed blood.

²⁰ But the wicked are like the troubled sea; for it can’t rest and its waters cast up mire and mud.

¹ Woe to those who devise iniquity and work evil on their beds! When the morning is light, they practice it, because it is in the power of their hand.

⁶⁶ As soon as it was day, the assembly of the elders of the people were gathered together, both chief priests and scribes, and they led him away into their council, saying,

²⁸ They led Jesus therefore from Caiaphas into the Praetorium. It was early, and they themselves didn’t enter into the Praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but might eat the Passover.

¹⁴ having eyes full of adultery, and who can’t cease from sin; enticing unsettled souls; having a heart trained in greed; children of cursing;

⁵ Behold, as wild donkeys in the desert, they go out to their work, seeking diligently for food. The wilderness yields them bread for their children. ⁶ They cut their food in the field. They glean the vineyard of the wicked.

⁴ Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge, who eat up my people as they eat bread, and don’t call on Yahweh?

¹⁷ “Stolen water is sweet. Food eaten in secret is pleasant.”

¹⁷ Fraudulent food is sweet to a man, but afterwards his mouth is filled with gravel.

²⁶ For wicked men are found among my people. They watch, as fowlers lie in wait. They set a trap. They catch men. ²⁷ As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit. Therefore they have become great, and grew rich. ²⁸ They have grown fat. They shine; yes, they excel in deeds of wickedness. They don’t plead the cause, the cause of the fatherless, that they may prosper; and they don’t defend the rights of the needy.

²⁵ There is a conspiracy of her prophets within it, like a roaring lion ravening the prey. They have devoured souls. They take treasure and precious things. They have made many widows within it. ²⁶ Her priests have done violence to my law, and have profaned my holy things. They have made no distinction between the holy and the common, neither have they caused men to discern between the unclean and the clean, and have hidden their eyes from my Sabbaths. So I am profaned among them. ²⁷ Her princes within it are like wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood, and to destroy souls, that they may get dishonest gain. ²⁸ Her prophets have plastered for them with whitewash, seeing false visions, and divining lies to them, saying, ‘The Lord Yahweh says,’ when Yahweh has not spoken. ²⁹ The people of the land have used oppression and exercised robbery. Yes, they have troubled the poor and needy, and have oppressed the foreigner wrongfully.

⁴ Hear this, you who desire to swallow up the needy, and cause the poor of the land to fail, ⁵ Saying, ‘When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell grain? And the Sabbath, that we may market wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel large, and dealing falsely with balances of deceit; ⁶ that we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of sandals, and sell the sweepings with the wheat?’”

⁵ Yahweh says concerning the prophets who lead my people astray; for those who feed their teeth, they proclaim, “Peace!” and whoever doesn’t provide for their mouths, they prepare war against him:

¹² Her rich men are full of violence, her inhabitants speak lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their speech.

³ Her princes within her are roaring lions. Her judges are evening wolves. They leave nothing until the next day.

¹³ “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses, and as a pretense you make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.

⁴ Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you have kept back by fraud, cry out, and the cries of those who reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Armies. ⁵ You have lived in luxury on the earth, and taken your pleasure. You have nourished your hearts as in a day of slaughter.

⁴ shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun rises, a morning without clouds, when the tender grass springs out of the earth, through clear shining after rain.’

¹⁷ Life will be clearer than the noonday. Though there is darkness, it will be as the morning.

¹⁰ But he knows the way that I take. When he has tried me, I will come out like gold.

⁷ They go from strength to strength. Every one of them appears before God in Zion.

⁷ The way of the just is uprightness. You who are upright make the path of the righteous level.

³ Let’s acknowledge Yahweh. Let’s press on to know Yahweh. As surely as the sun rises, Yahweh will appear. He will come to us like the rain, like the spring rain that waters the earth.”

⁶ It will happen in that day, that there will not be light, cold, or frost. ⁷ It will be a unique day which is known to Yahweh; not day, and not night; but it will come to pass, that at evening time there will be light.

¹⁴ You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill can’t be hidden.

¹⁶ Even so, let your light shine before men; that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

⁴⁵ that you may be children of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust.

¹² Again, therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.”

¹⁸ But we all, with unveiled face seeing the glory of the Lord as in a mirror, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord, the Spirit.

¹⁵ that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without defect in the middle of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you are seen as lights in the world,

¹⁹ We have the more sure word of prophecy; and you do well that you heed it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns, and the morning star arises in your hearts:

¹⁸ But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

²³ The city has no need for the sun or moon to shine, for the very glory of God illuminated it, and its lamp is the Lamb.

⁵ There will be no night, and they need no lamp light or sun light; for the Lord God will illuminate them. They will reign forever and ever.

⁹ He will keep the feet of his holy ones, but the wicked will be put to silence in darkness; for no man will prevail by strength.

¹⁴ They meet with darkness in the day time, and grope at noonday as in the night.

²⁵ They grope in the dark without light. He makes them stagger like a drunken man.

⁵ “Yes, the light of the wicked will be put out. The spark of his fire won’t shine. ⁶ The light will be dark in his tent. His lamp above him will be put out.

¹⁸ He will be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.

¹³ who forsake the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness,

⁹ Therefore justice is far from us, and righteousness doesn’t overtake us. We look for light, but see darkness; for brightness, but we walk in obscurity. ¹⁰ We grope for the wall like the blind. Yes, we grope as those who have no eyes. We stumble at noon as if it were twilight. Among those who are strong, we are like dead men.

¹⁶ Give glory to Yahweh your God, before he causes darkness, and before your feet stumble on the dark mountains, and while you look for light, he turns it into the shadow of death, and makes it deep darkness.

¹² Therefore their way will be to them as slippery places in the darkness. They will be driven on, and fall therein; for I will bring evil on them, even the year of their visitation,” says Yahweh.

²³ Then I will tell them, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me, you who work iniquity.’

¹⁴ Leave them alone. They are blind guides of the blind. If the blind guide the blind, both will fall into a pit.”

¹⁰ But if a man walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light isn’t in him.”

³⁵ Jesus therefore said to them, “Yet a little while the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, that darkness doesn’t overtake you. He who walks in the darkness doesn’t know where he is going.

¹¹ But he who hates his brother is in the darkness, and walks in the darkness, and doesn’t know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

¹ A contemplation by Asaph. Hear my teaching, my people. Turn your ears to the words of my mouth.

¹² So teach us to count our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

²⁰ My son, keep your father’s commandment, and don’t forsake your mother’s teaching. ²¹ Bind them continually on your heart. Tie them around your neck.

¹ My son, keep my words. Lay up my commandments within you.

⁵ While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them. Behold, a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him.”

⁸ I delight to do your will, my God. Yes, your law is within my heart.”

³ Don’t let kindness and truth forsake you. Bind them around your neck. Write them on the tablet of your heart.

²¹ My son, let them not depart from your eyes. Keep sound wisdom and discretion:

¹ My son, keep my words. Lay up my commandments within you. ² Keep my commandments and live! Guard my teaching as the apple of your eye.

⁸ It will be health to your body, and nourishment to your bones.

¹⁰ Listen, my son, and receive my sayings. The years of your life will be many.

¹⁸ There is one who speaks rashly like the piercing of a sword, but the tongue of the wise heals.

⁶ ‘Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them; and I will reveal to them abundance of peace and truth.

²³ Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts. ²⁴ See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way.

⁷ Wisdom is supreme. Get wisdom. Yes, though it costs all your possessions, get understanding.

¹⁶ A gracious woman obtains honor, but violent men obtain riches.

³ He who guards his mouth guards his soul. One who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.

⁵ Thorns and snares are in the path of the wicked: whoever guards his soul stays from them.

¹⁹ Listen, my son, and be wise, and keep your heart on the right path!

²⁶ One who trusts in himself is a fool; but one who walks in wisdom is kept safe.

¹³ There is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun: wealth kept by its owner to his harm.

⁹ The heart is deceitful above all things and it is exceedingly corrupt. Who can know it?

³⁴ You offspring of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. ³⁵ The good man out of his good treasure brings out good things, and the evil man out of his evil treasure brings out evil things.

¹⁹ For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual sins, thefts, false testimony, and blasphemies.

²¹ For from within, out of the hearts of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, sexual sins, murders, thefts, ²² covetings, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, and foolishness. ²³ All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.”

³⁸ Watch and pray, that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

⁴⁵ The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings out that which is good, and the evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings out that which is evil, for out of the abundance of the heart, his mouth speaks.

¹⁵ looking carefully lest there be any man who falls short of the grace of God, lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and many be defiled by it,

¹⁴ But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own lust and enticed. ¹⁵ Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin. The sin, when it is full grown, produces death.

¹² A worthless person, a man of iniquity, is he who walks with a perverse mouth,

⁸ All the words of my mouth are in righteousness. There is nothing crooked or perverse in them.

¹³ The fear of Yahweh is to hate evil. I hate pride, arrogance, the evil way, and the perverse mouth.

²⁰ One who has a perverse heart doesn’t find prosperity, and one who has a deceitful tongue falls into trouble.

³¹ Cast away from you all your transgressions, in which you have transgressed; and make yourself a new heart and a new spirit: for why will you die, house of Israel?

²⁵ Therefore putting away falsehood, speak truth each one with his neighbor. For we are members of one another. ²⁶ “Be angry, and don’t sin.” Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath, ²⁷ and don’t give place to the devil. ²⁸ Let him who stole steal no more; but rather let him labor, producing with his hands something that is good, that he may have something to give to him who has need. ²⁹ Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear. ³⁰ Don’t grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. ³¹ Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice.

⁸ but now you also put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and shameful speaking out of your mouth.

⁵ constant friction of people of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. Withdraw yourself from such.

²¹ Therefore, putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with humility the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

²⁶ If anyone among you thinks himself to be religious while he doesn’t bridle his tongue, but deceives his heart, this man’s religion is worthless.

¹ Putting away therefore all wickedness, all deceit, hypocrisies, envies, and all evil speaking,

¹ “I made a covenant with my eyes, how then should I look lustfully at a young woman?

³⁷ Turn my eyes away from looking at worthless things. Revive me in your ways.

⁵ Why do you set your eyes on that which is not? For it certainly sprouts wings like an eagle and flies in the sky.

³³ Your eyes will see strange things, and your mind will imagine confusing things.

²² “The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is sound, your whole body will be full of light.

²³ A man’s steps are established by Yahweh. He delights in his way.

² He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay. He set my feet on a rock, and gave me a firm place to stand.

⁵ Oh that my ways were steadfast to obey your statutes!

⁵⁹ I considered my ways, and turned my steps to your statutes.

⁶ She gives no thought to the way of life. Her ways are crooked, and she doesn’t know it.

²¹ For the ways of man are before Yahweh’s eyes. He examines all his paths.

²⁸ Because he considers, and turns away from all his transgressions that he has committed, he shall surely live. He shall not die.

⁵ Now therefore this is what Yahweh of Armies says: Consider your ways.

⁷ This is what Yahweh of Armies says: “Consider your ways.

¹⁵ Therefore watch carefully how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise,

¹⁷ Therefore don’t be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

¹³ to the end he may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.

³ But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one.

¹³ and make straight paths for your feet, so what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed.

¹⁰ But may the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a little while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.

³² You shall observe to do therefore as Yahweh your God has commanded you. You shall not turn away to the right hand or to the left.

³² Whatever thing I command you, that you shall observe to do. You shall not add to it, nor take away from it.

¹⁴ and shall not turn away from any of the words which I command you today, to the right hand or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.

⁷ Only be strong and very courageous. Be careful to observe to do according to all the law which Moses my servant commanded you. Don’t turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go.

¹⁷ The highway of the upright is to depart from evil. He who keeps his way preserves his soul.

¹⁶ Wash yourselves. Make yourself clean. Put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes. Cease to do evil.

⁹ Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor that which is evil. Cling to that which is good.
