² “If someone ventures to talk with you, will you be grieved? But who can withhold himself from speaking?

¹⁸ For I am full of words. The spirit within me constrains me. ¹⁹ Behold, my breast is as wine which has no vent; like new wineskins it is ready to burst. ²⁰ I will speak, that I may be refreshed. I will open my lips and answer.

¹¹ Therefore I am full of Yahweh’s wrath. I am weary with holding it in. “Pour it out on the children in the street, and on the assembly of young men together; for even the husband with the wife will be taken, the aged with him who is full of days.

⁹ If I say, I will not make mention of him, or speak any more in his name, then there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones. I am weary with holding it in. I can’t.

²⁰ for we can’t help telling the things which we saw and heard.”

⁴ For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote to you with many tears, not that you should be made to grieve, but that you might know the love that I have so abundantly for you. ⁵ But if any has caused sorrow, he has caused sorrow, not to me, but in part (that I not press too heavily) to you all. ⁶ This punishment which was inflicted by the many is sufficient for such a one;

⁸ For though I grieved you with my letter, I do not regret it, though I did regret it. For I see that my letter made you grieve, though just for a while. ⁹ I now rejoice, not that you were grieved, but that you were grieved to repentance. For you were grieved in a godly way, that you might suffer loss by us in nothing. ¹⁰ For godly sorrow produces repentance to salvation, which brings no regret. But the sorrow of the world produces death.
