Stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God. ¹⁵ Do you know how God controls them, and causes the lightning of his cloud to shine? ¹⁶ Do you know the workings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him who is perfect in knowledge? ¹⁷ You whose clothing is warm, when the earth is still by reason of the south wind? ¹⁸ Can you, with him, spread out the sky, which is strong as a cast metal mirror? ¹⁹ Teach us what we will tell him, for we can’t make our case by reason of darkness. ²⁰ Will it be told him that I would speak? ²² Don’t you fear me?’ says Yahweh ‘Won’t you tremble at my presence, who have placed the sand for the bound of the sea, by a perpetual decree, that it can’t pass it? Though its waves toss themselves, yet they can’t prevail. Though they roar, they still can’t pass over it.’

⁷ I, Daniel, alone saw the vision; for the men who were with me didn’t see the vision; but a great quaking fell on them, and they fled to hide themselves. ⁸ So I was left alone, and saw this great vision. No strength remained in me; for my face grew deathly pale, and I retained no strength.

¹⁶ I heard, and my body trembled. My lips quivered at the voice. Rottenness enters into my bones, and I tremble in my place, because I must wait quietly for the day of trouble, for the coming up of the people who invade us.

Yes, Yahweh breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon. ⁶ He makes them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young, wild ox. ⁷ Yahweh’s voice strikes with flashes of lightning. ⁸ Yahweh’s voice shakes the wilderness. Yahweh shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. ⁹ Yahweh’s voice makes the deer calve, and strips the forests bare. In his temple everything says, “Glory!”

⁷ At your rebuke they fled. At the voice of your thunder they hurried away.

¹³ that it might take hold of the ends of the earth, and shake the wicked out of it?

¹³ Your way, God, is in the sanctuary. What god is great like God?

⁴ His lightning lights up the world. The earth sees, and trembles.

¹² He will set up a banner for the nations, and will assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.

²⁷ For as the lightning flashes from the east, and is seen even to the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man be.

¹⁹ God’s temple that is in heaven was opened, and the ark of the Lord’s covenant was seen in his temple. Lightnings, sounds, thunders, an earthquake, and great hail followed.

⁷ In the greatness of your excellency, you overthrow those who rise up against you. You send out your wrath. It consumes them as stubble. ⁸ With the blast of your nostrils, the waters were piled up. The floods stood upright as a heap. The deeps were congealed in the heart of the sea.

²⁶ “There is no one like God, Jeshurun, who rides on the heavens for your help, in his excellency on the skies.

²⁷ For he draws up the drops of water, which distill in rain from his vapor, ²⁸ which the skies pour down and which drop on man abundantly. ²⁹ Yes, can any understand the spreading of the clouds, and the thunderings of his pavilion? ³⁰ Behold, he spreads his light around him. ³³ To him who rides on the heaven of heavens, which are of old; behold, he utters his voice, a mighty voice.

¹⁴ Yahweh thundered from heaven. The Most High uttered his voice. ¹⁵ He sent out arrows, and scattered them; lightning, and confused them.

⁹ who does great things that can’t be fathomed, marvelous things without number;

¹⁰ He does great things past finding out; yes, marvelous things without number.

⁷ “Can you fathom the mystery of God? Or can you probe the limits of the Almighty?

¹⁴ Behold, these are but the outskirts of his ways. How small a whisper do we hear of him! But the thunder of his power who can understand?”

²⁶ Behold, God is great, and we don’t know him. The number of his years is unsearchable.

¹¹ He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in their hearts, yet so that man can’t find out the work that God has done from the beginning even to the end.

²¹ Haven’t you known? Haven’t you heard? Haven’t you been told from the beginning? Haven’t you understood from the foundations of the earth? ²² It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in,

²⁸ Haven’t you known? Haven’t you heard? The everlasting God, Yahweh, the Creator of the ends of the earth, doesn’t faint. He isn’t weary. His understanding is unsearchable.

³³ Oh the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and the knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past tracing out!

³ They sang the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, “Great and marvelous are your works, Lord God, the Almighty! Righteous and true are your ways, you King of the nations.

¹⁰ After the seven days, the floodwaters came on the earth. ¹¹ In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep burst open, and the sky’s windows opened. ¹² It rained on the earth forty days and forty nights.

⁶ It is he who builds his rooms in the heavens, and has founded his vault on the earth; he who calls for the waters of the sea, and pours them out on the surface of the earth; Yahweh is his name.

⁸ Come, see Yahweh’s works, what desolations he has made in the earth.

⁹ All mankind shall be afraid. They shall declare the work of God, and shall wisely ponder what he has done.

⁴ For you, Yahweh, have made me glad through your work. I will triumph in the works of your hands.

²⁷ that they may know that this is your hand; that you, Yahweh, have done it.

² Yahweh’s works are great, pondered by all those who delight in them.

¹⁷ then I saw all the work of God, that man can’t find out the work that is done under the sun, because however much a man labors to seek it out, yet he won’t find it. Yes even though a wise man thinks he can comprehend it, he won’t be able to find it.

¹² The harp, lyre, tambourine, and flute, with wine, are at their feasts; but they don’t respect the work of Yahweh, neither have they considered the operation of his hands.

¹¹ Yahweh, your hand is lifted up, yet they don’t see; but they will see your zeal for the people, and be disappointed. Yes, fire will consume your adversaries.

⁴⁰ when they crouch in their dens, and lie in wait in the thicket?

²² The sun rises, and they steal away, and lie down in their dens.

⁹ He makes the Bear, Orion, and the Pleiades, and the rooms of the south.

³ He lays the beams of his rooms in the waters. He makes the clouds his chariot. He walks on the wings of the wind.

¹ The burden of the wilderness of the sea. As whirlwinds in the South sweep through, it comes from the wilderness, from an awesome land.

¹⁴ Yahweh will be seen over them; and his arrow will go flash like lightning; and the Lord Yahweh will blow the trumpet, and will go with whirlwinds of the south.

²⁹ Whose womb did the ice come out of? Who has given birth to the gray frost of the sky? ³⁰ The waters become hard like stone, when the surface of the deep is frozen.

⁵ While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them. Behold, a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him.”

⁹ You visit the earth, and water it. You greatly enrich it. The river of God is full of water. You provide them grain, for so you have ordained it. ¹⁰ You drench its furrows. You level its ridges. You soften it with showers. You bless it with a crop.

²⁴ Yahweh, how many are your works! In wisdom, you have made them all. The earth is full of your riches.

²² Are there any among the vanities of the nations that can cause rain? Or can the sky give showers? Aren’t you he, Yahweh our God? Therefore we will wait for you; for you have made all these things.

²³ “Be glad then, you children of Zion, and rejoice in Yahweh, your God; for he gives you the early rain in just measure, and he causes the rain to come down for you, the early rain and the latter rain, as before.

⁷ “I also have withheld the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest; and I caused it to rain on one city, and caused it not to rain on another city. One field was rained on, and the field where it didn’t rain withered.

¹⁷ Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and it didn’t rain on the earth for three years and six months. ¹⁸ He prayed again, and the sky gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.

⁶ These have the power to shut up the sky, that it may not rain during the days of their prophecy. They have power over the waters, to turn them into blood, and to strike the earth with every plague, as often as they desire.

¹⁸ Behold, tomorrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as has not been in Egypt since the day it was founded even until now. ¹⁹ Now therefore command that all of your livestock and all that you have in the field be brought into shelter. The hail will come down on every man and animal that is found in the field, and isn’t brought home, and they will die.”’” ²⁰ Those who feared Yahweh’s word among the servants of Pharaoh made their servants and their livestock flee into the houses. ²¹ Whoever didn’t respect Yahweh’s word left his servants and his livestock in the field. ²² Yahweh said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, on man, and on animal, and on every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt.” ²³ Moses stretched out his rod toward the heavens, and Yahweh sent thunder and hail; and lightning flashed down to the earth. Yahweh rained hail on the land of Egypt. ²⁴ So there was very severe hail, and lightning mixed with the hail, such as had not been in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation. ²⁵ The hail struck throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and animal; and the hail struck every herb of the field, and broke every tree of the field.

¹⁸ So Samuel called to Yahweh; and Yahweh sent thunder and rain that day. Then all the people greatly feared Yahweh and Samuel. ¹⁹ All the people said to Samuel, “Pray for your servants to Yahweh your God, that we not die; for we have added to all our sins this evil, to ask for a king.”

His hand has pierced the swift serpent. ¹⁴ Behold, these are but the outskirts of his ways. How small a whisper do we hear of him! But the thunder of his power who can understand?”

¹⁰ “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.”

⁵ I will meditate on the glorious majesty of your honor, on your wondrous works. ⁶ Men will speak of the might of your awesome acts. I will declare your greatness.

¹⁰ All your works will give thanks to you, Yahweh. Your saints will extol you. ¹¹ They will speak of the glory of your kingdom, and talk about your power, ¹² to make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, the glory of the majesty of his kingdom.

²⁰ But Yahweh is in his holy temple. Let all the earth be silent before him!”

²⁴ For he looks to the ends of the earth, and sees under the whole sky. ²⁵ He establishes the force of the wind. Yes, he measures out the waters by measure. ²⁶ When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder, ²⁷ then he saw it, and declared it. He established it, yes, and searched it out.

¹³ Who put him in charge of the earth? Or who has appointed him over the whole world?

³⁰ Behold, he spreads his light around him. He covers the bottom of the sea. ³¹ For by these he judges the people. He gives food in abundance. ³² He covers his hands with the lightning, and commands it to strike the mark.

Can you establish its dominion over the earth? ³⁴ “Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, That abundance of waters may cover you? ³⁵ Can you send out lightnings, that they may go? Do they report to you, ‘Here we are’? ³⁶ Who has put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who has given understanding to the mind? ³⁷ Who can count the clouds by wisdom? Or who can pour out the containers of the sky, ³⁸ when the dust runs into a mass, and the clods of earth stick together? ³⁹ “Can you hunt the prey for the lioness, or satisfy the appetite of the young lions, ⁴⁰ when they crouch in their dens, and lie in wait in the thicket? ⁴¹ Who provides for the raven his prey, when his young ones cry to God, and wander for lack of food?

⁹⁰ Your faithfulness is to all generations. You have established the earth, and it remains. ⁹¹ Your laws remain to this day, for all things serve you.

²⁶ Lift up your eyes on high, and see who has created these, who brings out their army by number. He calls them all by name. by the greatness of his might, and because he is strong in power, not one is lacking.

⁸ He binds up the waters in his thick clouds, and the cloud is not burst under them.

⁴ For truly my words are not false. One who is perfect in knowledge is with you.

² He covers himself with light as with a garment. He stretches out the heavens like a curtain. ³ He lays the beams of his rooms in the waters. He makes the clouds his chariot. He walks on the wings of the wind.

⁵ Great is our Lord, and mighty in power. His understanding is infinite.

¹⁹ By wisdom Yahweh founded the earth. By understanding, he established the heavens. ²⁰ By his knowledge, the depths were broken up, and the skies drop down the dew.

²² It is he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in,

¹² God has made the earth by his power. He has established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding has he stretched out the heavens. ¹³ When he utters his voice, the waters in the heavens roar, and he causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth. He makes lightnings for the rain, and brings the wind out of his treasuries.

¹⁷ In the dry season, they vanish. When it is hot, they are consumed out of their place.

³¹ “Can you bind the cluster of the Pleiades, or loosen the cords of Orion?

¹⁸ He sends out his word, and melts them. He causes his wind to blow, and the waters flow.

⁵⁵ When a south wind blows, you say, ‘There will be a scorching heat,’ and it happens.

⁶ God said, “Let there be an expanse in the middle of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.” ⁷ God made the expanse, and divided the waters which were under the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse; and it was so. ⁸ God called the expanse “sky”. There was evening and there was morning, a second day.

⁸ He made the basin of bronze, and its base of bronze, out of the mirrors of the ministering women who ministered at the door of the Tent of Meeting.

¹ Praise Yah! Praise God in his sanctuary! Praise him in his heavens for his acts of power!

²⁷ When he established the heavens, I was there. When he set a circle on the surface of the deep,

¹² Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and marked off the sky with his span, and calculated the dust of the earth in a measuring basket, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?

²⁴ Yahweh, your Redeemer, and he who formed you from the womb says: “I am Yahweh, who makes all things; who alone stretches out the heavens; who spreads out the earth by myself;

³ But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you. Yes, who doesn’t know such things as these?

³ “Surely I would speak to the Almighty. I desire to reason with God.

⁶ Hear now my reasoning. Listen to the pleadings of my lips.

²⁰ Where then does wisdom come from? Where is the place of understanding? ²¹ Seeing it is hidden from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the birds of the sky.

² “Who is this who darkens counsel by words without knowledge?

³ You asked, ‘Who is this who hides counsel without knowledge?’ therefore I have uttered that which I didn’t understand, things too wonderful for me, which I didn’t know.

¹⁶ When I tried to understand this, it was too painful for me, ¹⁷ until I entered God’s sanctuary, and considered their latter end.

²² I was so senseless and ignorant. I was a brute beast before you.

⁶ This knowledge is beyond me. It’s lofty. I can’t attain it.

² “Surely I am the most ignorant man, and don’t have a man’s understanding. ³ I have not learned wisdom, neither do I have the knowledge of the Holy One. ⁴ Who has ascended up into heaven, and descended? Who has gathered the wind in his fists? Who has bound the waters in his garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son’s name, if you know?

¹² For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully, even as I was also fully known.

² Beloved, now we are children of God. It is not yet revealed what we will be; but we know that when he is revealed, we will be like him; for we will see him just as he is.

³ For now it would be heavier than the sand of the seas, therefore have my words been rash.

⁷ “Can you fathom the mystery of God? Or can you probe the limits of the Almighty? ⁸ They are high as heaven. What can you do? They are deeper than Sheol. What can you know?

⁴ For there is not a word on my tongue, but, behold, Yahweh, you know it altogether.

³⁶ I tell you that every idle word that men speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. ³⁷ For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

⁹ He encloses the face of his throne, and spreads his cloud on it.

²⁵ Who has cut a channel for the flood water, or the path for the thunder storm,

¹¹ Yours, Yahweh, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty! For all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, Yahweh, and you are exalted as head above all.

¹⁰ “Now deck yourself with excellency and dignity. Array yourself with honor and majesty.

⁴ Yahweh’s voice is powerful. Yahweh’s voice is full of majesty.

⁵ Come, and see God’s deeds— awesome work on behalf of the children of men.

⁷ God, when you went out before your people, when you marched through the wilderness... Selah. ⁸ The earth trembled. The sky also poured down rain at the presence of the God of Sinai— at the presence of God, the God of Israel.

¹² He will cut off the spirit of princes. He is feared by the kings of the earth.

¹ Yahweh reigns! He is clothed with majesty! Yahweh is armed with strength. The world also is established. It can’t be moved.

¹ Bless Yahweh, my soul. Yahweh, my God, you are very great. You are clothed with honor and majesty.

⁵ I will meditate on the glorious majesty of your honor, on your wondrous works.

²³ The north wind produces rain; so a backbiting tongue brings an angry face.

¹⁰ Enter into the rock, and hide in the dust, from before the terror of Yahweh, and from the glory of his majesty.

¹⁹ Men shall go into the caves of the rocks, and into the holes of the earth, from before the terror of Yahweh, and from the glory of his majesty, when he arises to shake the earth mightily.

⁴ He shall stand, and shall shepherd in the strength of Yahweh, in the majesty of the name of Yahweh his God: and they will live, for then he will be great to the ends of the earth.

³ Yahweh is slow to anger, and great in power, and will by no means leave the guilty unpunished. Yahweh has his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.

³ God came from Teman, the Holy One from Mount Paran. Selah. His glory covered the heavens, and his praise filled the earth. ⁴ His splendor is like the sunrise. Rays shine from his hand, where his power is hidden. ⁵ Plague went before him, and pestilence followed his feet. ⁶ He stood, and shook the earth. He looked, and made the nations tremble. The ancient mountains were crumbled. The age-old hills collapsed. His ways are eternal. ⁷ I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction. The dwellings of the land of Midian trembled. ⁸ Was Yahweh displeased with the rivers? Was your anger against the rivers, or your wrath against the sea, that you rode on your horses, on your chariots of salvation? ⁹ You uncovered your bow. You called for your sworn arrows. Selah. You split the earth with rivers. ¹⁰ The mountains saw you, and were afraid. The storm of waters passed by. The deep roared and lifted up its hands on high. ¹¹ The sun and moon stood still in the sky, at the light of your arrows as they went, at the shining of your glittering spear. ¹² You marched through the land in wrath. You threshed the nations in anger. ¹³ You went out for the salvation of your people, for the salvation of your anointed. You crushed the head of the land of wickedness. You stripped them head to foot. Selah. ¹⁴ You pierced the heads of his warriors with their own spears. They came as a whirlwind to scatter me, gloating as if to devour the wretched in secret. ¹⁵ You trampled the sea with your horses, churning mighty waters. ¹⁶ I heard, and my body trembled. My lips quivered at the voice. Rottenness enters into my bones, and I tremble in my place, because I must wait quietly for the day of trouble, for the coming up of the people who invade us. ¹⁷ For though the fig tree doesn’t flourish, nor fruit be in the vines; the labor of the olive fails, the fields yield no food; the flocks are cut off from the fold, and there is no herd in the stalls: ¹⁸ yet I will rejoice in Yahweh. I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! ¹⁹ Yahweh, the Lord, is my strength. He makes my feet like deer’s feet, and enables me to go in high places. For the music director, on my stringed instruments.

³ His Son is the radiance of his glory, the very image of his substance, and upholding all things by the word of his power, who, when he had by himself purified us of our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high,

²⁹ for our God is a consuming fire.

²⁵ to God our Savior, who alone is wise, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever. Amen.

³ Does God pervert justice? Or does the Almighty pervert righteousness?

⁴ God is wise in heart, and mighty in strength. Who has hardened himself against him and prospered?

¹⁹ If it is a matter of strength, behold, he is mighty! If of justice, ‘Who,’ says he, ‘will summon me?’

¹³ “With God is wisdom and might. He has counsel and understanding.

⁷ But now, God, you have surely worn me out. You have made all my company desolate. ⁸ You have shriveled me up. This is a witness against me. My leanness rises up against me. It testifies to my face. ⁹ He has torn me in his wrath and persecuted me. He has gnashed on me with his teeth. My adversary sharpens his eyes on me. ¹⁰ They have gaped on me with their mouth. They have struck me on the cheek reproachfully. They gather themselves together against me. ¹¹ God delivers me to the ungodly, and casts me into the hands of the wicked. ¹² I was at ease, and he broke me apart. Yes, he has taken me by the neck, and dashed me to pieces. He has also set me up for his target. ¹³ His archers surround me. He splits my kidneys apart, and does not spare. He pours out my bile on the ground. ¹⁴ He breaks me with breach on breach. He runs at me like a giant. ¹⁵ I have sewed sackcloth on my skin, and have thrust my horn in the dust. ¹⁶ My face is red with weeping. Deep darkness is on my eyelids, ¹⁷ although there is no violence in my hands, and my prayer is pure.

⁵ “Behold, God is mighty, and doesn’t despise anyone. He is mighty in strength of understanding.

¹⁹ Teach us what we will tell him, for we can’t make our case by reason of darkness.

⁵ For his anger is but for a moment. His favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may stay for the night, but joy comes in the morning.

⁵ Your loving kindness, Yahweh, is in the heavens. Your faithfulness reaches to the skies. ⁶ Your righteousness is like the mountains of God. Your judgments are like a great deep. Yahweh, you preserve man and animal. ⁷ How precious is your loving kindness, God! The children of men take refuge under the shadow of your wings.

¹¹ God has spoken once; twice I have heard this, that power belongs to God.

⁶ By your power, you form the mountains, having armed yourself with strength.

³ Tell God, “How awesome are your deeds! Through the greatness of your power, your enemies submit themselves to you.

⁴ The King’s strength also loves justice. You establish equity. You execute justice and righteousness in Jacob.

⁶ who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them; who keeps truth forever; ⁷ who executes justice for the oppressed; who gives food to the hungry. Yahweh frees the prisoners.

²¹ Declare and present it. Yes, let them take counsel together. Who has shown this from ancient time? Who has declared it of old? Haven’t I, Yahweh? There is no other God besides me, a just God and a Savior. There is no one besides me.

⁹ In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them. In his love and in his pity he redeemed them. He bore them, and carried them all the days of old.

³² For though he causes grief, yet he will have compassion according to the multitude of his loving kindnesses. ³³ For he does not afflict willingly, nor grieve the children of men.

²³ Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked?” says the Lord Yahweh; “and not rather that he should return from his way, and live?

³² For I have no pleasure in the death of him who dies,” says the Lord Yahweh. “Therefore turn yourselves, and live!

¹³ Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For yours is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen.’

²² Turning to the disciples, he said, “All things have been delivered to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is, except the Father, and who the Father is, except the Son, and he to whomever the Son desires to reveal him.”

¹⁶ He alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and eternal power. Amen.

¹⁰ For they indeed, for a few days, punished us as seemed good to them; but he for our profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness.

¹³ He takes the wise in their own craftiness; the counsel of the cunning is carried headlong.

⁴ But there is forgiveness with you, therefore you are feared.

¹¹ I returned and saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all.

²¹ Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

³⁹ I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me forever, for their good, and the good of their children after them.

⁹ This city will be to me for a name of joy, for praise, and for glory, before all the nations of the earth, which will hear all the good that I do to them, and will fear and tremble for all the good and for all the peace that I provide to it.’”

⁵ Afterward the children of Israel shall return, and seek Yahweh their God, and David their king, and shall come with trembling to Yahweh and to his blessings in the last days.

²⁸ Don’t be afraid of those who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul. Rather, fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.

²⁵ At that time, Jesus answered, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you hid these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to infants. ²⁶ Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight.

²¹ In that same hour Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit, and said, “I thank you, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight.”

⁴ “I tell you, my friends, don’t be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. ⁵ But I will warn you whom you should fear. Fear him who after he has killed, has power to cast into Gehenna. Yes, I tell you, fear him.

⁴ Or do you despise the riches of his goodness, forbearance, and patience, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?

²⁰ True; by their unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by your faith. Don’t be conceited, but fear; ²¹ for if God didn’t spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you. ²² See then the goodness and severity of God. Toward those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in his goodness; otherwise you also will be cut off.

²⁶ For you see your calling, brothers, that not many are wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, and not many noble;

¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He has taken the wise in their craftiness.”
