³¹ but Israel, who pursued a law of righteousness, has not attained it.

¹ "Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness and who seek the LORD. Look to the rock from which you were hewn and to the quarry from which you were dug out.

²⁰ Therefore no flesh will be justified in his sight by works of the law, for through the law comes knowledge of sin.

¹⁴ For if those who live by the Law are heirs, faith is useless and the promise is worthless, ¹⁵ because the Law brings wrath. And where there is no law, there is no transgression.

³⁰ What then will we say? That the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith; ³¹ but Israel, who pursued a law of righteousness, has not attained it. ³² Why not? Because their pursuit was not by faith, but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone,

² For I testify about them that they are zealous for God, but not on the basis of knowledge. ³ For, being ignorant of the righteousness that comes from God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. ⁴ For Christ is the end of the law, so that there may be righteousness for every one who believes.

⁷ What then? What Israel was seeking, it failed to obtain, but the elect did. The others were hardened,

¹⁰ All who rely on works of the Law are under a curse. For it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.” ¹¹ And it is clear that no one is justified before God by the Law, because, “The righteous will live by faith.”

²¹ Is the Law, then, opposed to the promises of God? Not at all! For if a law had been given that could impart life, then righteousness would certainly have come from the Law.

³ Again I testify to every man who gets himself circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole Law. ⁴ You who are trying to be justified by the Law have been severed from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.

⁶ as to zeal persecuting the church, as to the righteousness of the Law blameless.

¹⁰ Whoever keeps the whole Law but stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. ¹¹ For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” If you do not commit adultery, but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker.
