¹ Hurry, God, to deliver me. Come quickly to help me, LORD. ² Let those who seek my life be confused and put to shame. Let those who want my downfall be turned back and disgraced. ³ Let those who say: "Aha! Aha!" Be turned back because of their own shame. ⁴ Let all those who seek you rejoice and be glad in you. Let those who love your salvation continually say, "Let God be exalted." ⁵ But I am poor and needy. Make haste to me, O God. You are my help and my deliverer, O LORD. Do not delay.

¹ Later Ahithophel said to Absalom: »Let me choose twelve thousand men. Tonight I will set out after David. ² and I will come upon him when he is weary and weak-handed, and I will strike him with terror; and all the people with him shall flee, and I will smite the king only of all. ³ and I will bring back all the people to you. The man whom you seek is as if all returned, so all the people will be in peace. ⁴ The saying pleased Absalom well, and all the elders of Israel. ⁵ Absalom replied, "Call in Hushai the Archite so I can hear what he has to say, too!" ⁶ When Hushai had come to Absalom, Absalom spoke to him, saying, "Ahithophel has spoken like this. Shall we do what he says? If not, speak up." ⁷ And Hushai said to Absalom, The advice which Ahithophel has given is not good at this time. ⁸ "You know your father and his followers are mighty warriors. They are as fierce as a mother bear whose cubs have just been killed. Your father has a lot of experience in fighting wars. He will not spend the night with the others. ⁹ Behold, he is hidden now in some pit, or in one of the places. And it shall be, at the falling among them at the first, whoever hears will say, There is a slaughter among the people who follow Absalom. ¹⁰ And even he who is valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, will utterly melt, for all Israel knows that your father is a mighty man and those who are with him are valiant men. ¹¹ "My advice is to gather all Israel's troops from Dan to Beersheba. They are as numerous as the sand on the seashore. Lead them into battle yourself. ¹² »Find him and attack him! We will fall on him as dew falls on the ground. Neither he nor any of his men will be left alive. ¹³ Even if he withdraws to a city, all Israel will bring up ropes to that city, and they will drag him away to the valley until there is not even a pebble to be found." ¹⁴ Then Absalom and all the men of Israel said, "The advice of Hushai the Arkite is better than the advice of Ahithophel." (Now the LORD had ordained to frustrate the good counsel of Ahithophel in order for the LORD to bring misery upon Absalom). ¹⁵ Hushai told the priests Zadok and Abiathar: »Ahithophel advised Absalom and the leaders of Israel to do one thing. But I advised them to do something else. ¹⁶ So then, send quickly and tell David, 'Don't spend the night at the fords of the wilderness! Moreover, by all means cross over lest the king and all the people who are with him be swallowed up.'" ¹⁷ Now, Jonathan and Ahimaaz, were staying by En-rogel, and a maidservant was to go and tell them, and, they, were to go and tell King David,—for they might not be seen to eater the city. ¹⁸ But a young man saw them and told Absalom: and the two went quickly, and entered into the house of a man in Bahurim; and he had a well in his court, and they went down into it. ¹⁹ The man's wife took a covering and spread it over the opening of the cistern. She scattered grain over it so that no one would notice anything. ²⁰ When the servants of Absalom came to the woman at the house, they said, "Where are Ahimaaz and Jonathan?" And she said to them, "They crossed over the brook of water." So they searched but could not find them, so they returned to Jerusalem. ²¹ After they left, they came up from the well and went and told King David. They said to David, "Set out and cross over the water quickly, for thus Ahithophel has advised against you."

¹ A psalm of David. To bring to remembrance. O LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger or chastise me in your wrath.

¹³ Be pleased, O LORD, to deliver me: O LORD, make haste to help me. ¹⁴ Let all those who seek to end my life be confused and put to shame. Let those who want my downfall be turned back and disgraced. ¹⁵ Let those who say to me: Aha! Aha! Be stunned by their shame. ¹⁶ Let all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you. Let those who love your salvation continually say: the LORD is greatly magnified! ¹⁷ But I am poor and needy. Let my Lord consider me. You are my help and my deliverer. O my God, do not delay.

¹⁸ Draw near and redeem me; ransom me because of my enemies.

¹² Go not far from me, O God; my God, haste thee to help me.

⁷ Answer me quickly, O LORD for my spirit fails. Do not hide your face from me or I will become like those who go down to the pit.

¹⁰ All my enemies will be ashamed and dismayed. They will turn back in sudden disgrace.

⁴ Let those who seek my life be put to shame and disgraced. Let those who plan my downfall be turned back in confusion.

²⁶ Let those who gloat over my downfall be thoroughly put to shame and confused. Let those who promote themselves at my expense be clothed with shame and disgrace.

¹³ Let my adversaries be ashamed and consumed; let those who seek my destruction be covered with scorn and disgrace.

²⁹ May my accusers be clothed with shame and wrapped in their humiliation as with a robe.

¹³ And to whom a word of the LORD hath been, Rule on rule, rule on rule, line on line, line on line, A little here, a little there, So that they go and have stumbled backward, And been broken, and snared, and captured.

¹¹ "All who rage against you will be ashamed and disgraced. Those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish.

⁶ When Jesus said 'I am he,' they drew back and fell to the ground.

²¹ They open their mouths against me and say: Aha! Aha! Our own eyes have seen it.

²⁵ Do not let them say: Aha, just what we wanted! We have swallowed him up.

¹⁵ Let those who say to me: Aha! Aha! Be stunned by their shame.

¹⁷ Do not rejoice when your enemy falls. Do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles. ¹⁸ the LORD will see it and be displeased and turn his anger away from him.

³ "Tell the Ammonites: 'Hear the word of the Sovereign LORD! The Sovereign LORD says: "Because you said, Aha! Against My sanctuary when it was profaned, and against the land of Israel when it was made desolate, and against the house of Judah when they went into exile,

² Son of man, because Tyre hath said of Jerusalem: Aha, the gates of the people are broken, she is turned to me: I shall be filled, now she is laid waste.

² Thus says the Sovereign LORD: Because the enemy has said against you, Aha! and, The ancient high places are ours in possession;

¹⁸ (With the reward of his wickedness Judas bought a field, and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his intestines spilled out.

¹¹ But let all who take refuge in you rejoice. Let them ever sing for joy because you defend them. Let those who love your name exult in you.

²⁷ Let those who delight in my vindication shout for joy and rejoice! Let them continually say, "Magnify the LORD, who delights in giving peace to his servant."

¹⁶ Let all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you. Let those who love your salvation continually say: the LORD is greatly magnified!

¹² Be glad in the LORD, you righteous, and give thanks to his holy name.

¹⁰ I will rejoice greatly in the LORD. I will exult in my God for he has clothed me with garments of salvation. He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

¹³ Therefore this is what the Sovereign Sovereign LORD says: My servants will eat, but you will go hungry. My servants will drink, but you will go thirsty. My servants will rejoice, but you will be put to shame! ¹⁴ My servants will sing out of the joy of their hearts, but you will cry out from anguish of heart and wail in brokenness of spirit.

²⁵ the LORD is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him.

²⁰ Truly, truly, I tell you, you will weep and wail while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy.

¹ For the music director. A psalm of David. How long, O LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? ² How long must I make decisions alone with sorrow in my heart day after day? How long will my enemy triumph over me?

¹⁷ But I am poor and needy. Let my Lord consider me. You are my help and my deliverer. O my God, do not delay.

²⁹ But I am in pain and distress. Let your salvation, God, protect me.

²² For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.

¹ A Psalm of David. O LORD, I cry to You; hasten to me; hear my voice when I cry to You.

³⁷ For in a very little while, “He who is coming will come and will not delay.

²⁰ He who testifies to these things says, "Yes, I am coming soon." Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
