A Psalm of David.} Hear, O God, my voice in my plaint; preserve my life from fear of the enemy: ² Hide me from the conspiracy of the wicked, from the noisy crowd of the ones doing evil; ³ who sharpen their tongues like swords, and aim their bitter words like arrows, ⁴ to shoot in secret at the blameless; they will shoot him suddenly, and will not fear. ⁵ They encourage themselves in evil plans. They talk about laying snares secretly. They say, "Who will see them?" ⁶ They plot injustice, saying, We have made a perfect plan! Surely man's mind and heart are cunning. ⁷ But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; suddenly they shall be wounded. ⁸ Their own tongues shall ruin them; all who see them will shake their heads. ⁹ All mankind shall be afraid. They shall declare the work of God, and shall wisely ponder what he has done. ¹⁰ Let the righteous rejoice in the Lord and trust in him: and let all the upright in heart be praised.

⁸ Keep me as the apple of your eye. Hide me in the shadow of your wings ⁹ From the wicked that oppress me, from my deadly enemies, who surround me.

⁷ Hear, O LORD, my voice when I call, and be gracious to me and answer me.

¹³ I have heard the slander of many; it is like terror all around me, as they conspire together and plot to take my life. ¹⁴ But I trust in you, LORD. I say, "You are my God." ¹⁵ My times are in Your hand; deliver me from the hand of my enemies and from those who pursue me.

⁴ I sought the LORD, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears.

¹ For the music director, with stringed instruments. A maskil of David. Give ear, O God, to my prayer, and do not hide yourself from my plea. ² Pay attention to me, and answer me. My thoughts are restless. I am confused and distracted.

² My enemies trample all day, because many are attacking me proudly. ³ When I am afraid I will trust in You. ⁴ In God, whose word I praise, In God I have put my trust. I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?

¹ A song of ascents. Out of the depths I call to you, O LORD. ² Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my petitions.

¹ A psalm of David. O LORD, hear my prayer; listen to my supplications. In your faithfulness answer me, and in your righteousness. ² And do not enter into judgment with your servant, because no one alive is righteous before you. ³ For the enemy has pursued my soul; he has crushed my life to the ground. He has made me dwell in dark places like those long dead.

⁵⁵ I called on your name, LORD, out of the depths of the pit. ⁵⁶ You heard my voice don't close your ear to my sighs and cries.

⁹ One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision: “Do not be afraid; keep on speaking; do not be silent. ¹⁰ for I am with you and no one shall attack and harm you, for I have many people in this city."

²⁴ and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must stand before Caesar. And look, God has granted you the lives of all who sail with you.’

⁶ the LORD said to Cain: "Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast?

²² Please go and make sure and find out where his haunt is and who has seen him there, for they tell me that he is very crafty. ²³ So find out all the hiding places he uses and come back to me with definite information, and I will go with you. If he is in the area I will search him out among all the thousands of Judah.

² and I will come upon him when he is weary and weak-handed, and I will strike him with terror; and all the people with him shall flee, and I will smite the king only of all. ³ and I will bring back all the people to you. The man whom you seek is as if all returned, so all the people will be in peace. ⁴ The saying pleased Absalom well, and all the elders of Israel.

² The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the LORD and against his Anointed One.

¹ LORD, how my adversaries have increased. Many rise up against me.

⁵ Because in the day of trouble he will hide me in his shelter. He will hide me in the covering of his tabernacle He will lift me up upon a rock.

²⁰ In the shelter of your presence you will hide them from the plotting of man. You will keep them secretly in a dwelling away from the strife of tongues.

⁶ They conspire and lurk, watching my steps. They are eager to take my life.

² Deliver me from evildoers. Save me from the bloodthirsty men.

² Wicked and deceitful people have opened their mouths against me. They speak against me with lying tongues. ³ And, with words of hatred, have they surrounded me, and have made war upon me without cause:

⁹ Deliver me from my enemies, O LORD. I take refuge in you.

² And a man shall be as a hiding-place from the wind, and a covert from the storm; as brooks of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a thirsty land.

¹⁹ But I was like a docile lamb being brought to the slaughter. And I did not know that they had plotted evils against me, saying, Let us destroy the tree with its fruit, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, so that his name may be remembered no more.

²³ Yet, the LORD, you know all their counsel against me to kill me. Don't forgive their iniquity. Don't blot out their sin from your sight, Let them be overthrown before you. Deal with them in the time of your anger.

³ Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priest, who was named Caiaphas, ⁴ and they plotted to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him.

¹⁸ But they all cried out in unison: “Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us!” ¹⁹ (Barabbas had been imprisoned for an insurrection in the city, and for murder.) ²⁰ Wanting to release Jesus, Pilate addressed them again, ²¹ But they kept on shouting, "Crucify him! Crucify him!" ²² A third time he appealed to them: "Why, what crime has the man committed? I have discovered in him nothing that deserves death. I will therefore give him a light punishment and release him." ²³ But they kept shouting the more insistently, demanding that he should be crucified, and their shouts won the day.

¹⁴ They went to the high priests and elders and said, "We have taken a solemn oath not to taste any food before we have killed Paul. ¹⁵ Now then, you and the Sanhedrin petition the commander to bring him down to you on the pretext of examining his case more carefully. We are ready to kill him on the way.”

³ as a favor to them, to have Paul transferred to Jerusalem, for they were preparing an ambush to kill him along the way.

² For lo, the wicked bend their bow, they arrange their arrow upon the string, to shoot in the dark at the upright in heart.

⁴ My soul is among lions; I lie among those on fire, the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

⁷ Let them vanish like water that flows away. When they draw the bow, let their arrows be made blunt.

¹⁸ The babbler is like the stabs of a sword; and the tongue of the wise is healing.

¹⁴ a generation whose teeth are like swords, and its jaw teeth like knives, to devour the poor from the earth, and the needy from among men.

¹⁷ "Weapons forged against you will not prevail! You will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD and this is their vindication from me," declares the LORD.

³ They use their tongues like a bow. Lies rather than truth fly throughout the land. They progress from one evil to another, and they don't know me," declares the LORD.

⁶ The tongue also is a fire, a world of wickedness among the parts of the body. It pollutes the whole person, sets the course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. ⁷ All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles, and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, ⁸ But no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

¹¹ Then Saul hurled the spear and thought, "I will pin David to the wall." But David eluded him twice.

¹⁰ Saul tried to pin David to the wall with the spear, but he jumped away from Saul and the spear stuck in the wall. That night David escaped and fled.

¹⁴ And David said to all his servants who were with him at Jerusalem, Come, let us go in flight, or not one of us will be safe from Absalom: let us go without loss of time, or he will overtake us quickly and send evil on us, and put the town to the sword.

¹¹ Our enemies said, "Before they notice or see us, we'll penetrate their midst, kill them, and stop the work!"

⁸ He lies in wait near the villages. From ambushes, he murders the innocent. His eyes are secretly set against the helpless. ⁹ He lurks in secret as a lion in his ambush. He lies in wait to catch the helpless. He catches the helpless when he draws him in his net.

¹⁹ God, who is enthroned forever, will hear, and answer them. Selah. They never change, those who don't fear God.

³ For lo, they lie in wait for my soul, mighty ones gather against me; not for my transgression, and not my sin, O LORD. ⁴ I have done no wrong, yet they are ready to attack me. Rise up, look, and help me.

⁷ But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; suddenly they shall be wounded.

¹⁴ With his own lances you pierced the heads of his warriors, who came out like a windstorm to scatter us their joy is to devour the afflicted who are in hiding.

⁶ When the high priests and the officials saw him, they shouted, "Crucify him! Crucify him!" Pilate told them, "You take him and crucify him. I find no basis for a charge against him."

²² "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth;" ²³ When they heaped abuse on Him, He did not retaliate; when He suffered, He made no threats, but entrusted Himself to Him who judges justly.

⁹ The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my soul shall be filled with them; I will draw my sword; my hand will destroy them.

⁶ Now, please go, curse this people for me because they are stronger than me; perhaps I will be able to strike them and drive them out from the land because I know whoever you bless is blessed, and whoever you cursed is cursed."

¹⁹ Then the Ziphites went up to Saul at Gibeah, saying, "Is not David hiding among us in the strongholds at Horesh on the hill of Hakilah, which is south of Jeshimon? ²⁰ Now, your majesty, whenever you want to come down, come down, and our part will be to hand him over to the king." ²¹ Saul answered: "May the LORD bless you for being so kind to me!

¹³ Yet you say, What does El know? Can He judge through murkiness?

¹¹ He says in his heart, "God has forgotten. He has hidden his face. He never sees."

⁷ See what pours out of their mouths, swords from their lips! They think: Who will hear us?

⁷ They say, "The LORD cannot see, and the God of Jacob will not notice."

⁷ Our soul has escaped like a bird out of the fowlers' snare; the snare is broken, and we have escaped.

⁵ The proud have hidden a snare for me, they have spread the cords of a net by the path. They have set traps for me. Selah.

¹¹ If they say: 'Come with us, let us lie in wait for blood, let us lurk for the innocent without cause; ¹² Let's swallow them alive like Sheol, and whole like those who go down into the pit. ¹³ We'll find all valuable wealth. We'll fill our houses with plunder. ¹⁴ Throw in your lot with us. We'll all have one purse."

⁶ Each helps the other and says to his brother: "Be strong!"

¹² Then He said to me, Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the dark, every man in his rooms of images? They say, 'the LORD doesn't see us; the LORD has forsaken the land'.

¹⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You traverse land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are.

¹⁰ The inhabitants of the earth will gloat over them and celebrate by sending presents to one another, for these two prophets were a torment to the inhabitants of the earth.

⁹ Then Doeg the Edomite, who stood by the servants of Saul, said: I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub.

⁹ David said to Saul, Why do you listen when men say 'David is trying to harm you?'.

¹⁰ Nabal answered David's servants, Who is David? Who is the son of Jesse? There are many servants who break away from their masters these days.

⁹ For there is not anything reliable in his mouth; their inner part is destruction. Their throat is an open grave; with their tongue they speak deceit.

¹¹ Unrighteous witnesses rise up; they accuse me of things that I know nothing about.

¹¹ Their tombs are their homes forever, and their dwelling places to all generations. They name their lands after themselves.

⁵ The counsel in a man's heart is like deep waters, Yet a man of understanding draws it out."

¹⁵ Woe to those who go deep to hide their purpose from the LORD! And their works are in the dark, and they say, Who sees us? And who knows us?

⁹ The heart is deceitful above all things, and incurable; who can know it? ¹⁰ "I, the LORD, search the heart and examine the mind (inner man). I give to each man according to his ways, according to the results of his deeds.

⁴ Then the other administrators and satraps began to seek to find a pretext against Daniel in connection with the kingdom, but they were not able to find any pretext and corruption because he was trustworthy, and no negligence or corruption could be found in him. ⁵ Then these men said, "We will not find any pretext against this Daniel unless we find it in connection with the law of his God."

⁵⁹ Now the chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false testimony against Jesus in order that they could put him to death.

²⁹ So Pilate came outside to them and asked, "What charge do you bring against this man?" ³⁰ "If the man were not a criminal," they replied, "we would not have handed him over to you."

⁷ The Jews answered Pilate, "We have a law, and according to that law he must die because he made himself out to be the Son of God."

⁵ Therefore judge nothing before the proper time; wait until the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men’s hearts. At that time each will receive his praise from God.

²³ I will heap evils upon them, and will spend my arrows among them.

⁴² I will make my arrows drunk with blood, and my sword shall devour flesh, of the blood of the slain and of the captivity, of the bare head of the enemies.

³⁴ But a man drew his bow at a venture, and struck the king of Israel between the joints and the armor; wherefore he said unto his chariot-driver. Turn about, and carry me out of the camp; for I am wounded.

³ The fighting grew fierce around Saul, and when the archers overtook him, they wounded him. ⁴ Saul said to his armor-bearer: "Draw your sword and run me through, or these uncircumcised fellows will come and abuse me." But his armor-bearer was terrified and would not do it. So Saul took his own sword and fell on it. ⁵ When the armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he too fell on his sword and died. ⁶ And Saul and his three sons died, and all his house died together. ⁷ When all the Israelites in the valley saw that the army had fled and that Saul and his sons had died, they abandoned their towns and fled. And the Philistines came and occupied them.

⁴ "The Almighty's arrows are in me. My spirit drinks in their poison. God's terrors set themselves against me.

¹² If a man doesn't relent, he will sharpen his sword; he has bent and strung his bow. ¹³ He has also prepared for himself deadly weapons. He makes ready his flaming arrows.

¹⁴ He sent out his arrows, and scattered them; and he multiplied lightnings, and routed them.

⁴ to shoot in secret at the blameless; they will shoot him suddenly, and will not fear.

¹⁹ How they are suddenly destroyed! They are completely swept away with terrors.

¹⁵ Therefore his calamity will come suddenly. He will be broken suddenly, and that without remedy.

¹ He that is stiff necked and will not be reformed, shall suddenly be destroyed without any help.

¹³ This sin will be to you like a crack in a high wall, causing its fall suddenly and in a minute.

¹² With his bow bent, he made me the target for his arrows. ¹³ He poured into my reins the darts of his quiver.

⁴⁰ Two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left.

⁵⁰ the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of, ⁵¹ and he will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

² for you yourselves know very well that the Day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. ³ While people are saying, “Peace and security,” destruction will come upon them suddenly, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

³⁴ And all Israel around them fled at their cry. For they said, Lest the earth swallow us up.

³ The battle went badly against Saul, the archers overtook him and wounded him badly. ⁴ And Saul said to his armor-bearer, Draw your sword and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised ones come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armor-bearer would not, for he was very much afraid. So Saul took a sword and fell on it. ⁵ When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also fell on his sword and died with him. ⁶ So Saul died, and his three sons, his armor bearer, and all his men together that same day. ⁷ When the men of Israel who were across the valley and who were across the Jordan saw that the army of Israel had fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned the cities and fled, and the Philistines came and occupied them.

⁶ "Your own mouth condemns you, not mine! Your own lips testify against you.

³ When my enemies turn back, they stumble and perish before you.

⁷ All who see me deride me; they bust out the lip, they shake the head,

¹¹ Because of all my adversaries I have become utterly contemptible to my neighbors, a horror to my acquaintances. Those who saw me on the street fled from me.

⁶ And the righteous will see and fear, and will laugh at him, saying,

¹² For the sin of their mouth, and the words of their lips, let them be caught in their pride, for the curses and lies which they utter.

⁹ Let the heads of those who surround me be covered with their own threats.

¹³ An evil man is trapped by sinfulness of lips, but the righteous shall come out of trouble.

⁷ A fool's mouth is ruin to him, and his lips are a snare to his soul.

¹⁶ They make their land into a desolate place, an object of lasting scorn. All who pass by will be appalled and will shake their heads.

²⁷ For was not Israel a mockery to you? Was he found among thieves? For ever since you spoke of him, you skipped for joy.

⁷ And so be it, all who see you, flee from you; and say, Nineveh is ravaged: Who wags over her? Where seek I sighers for you?

⁴¹ “He will bring those wretches to a wretched end,” they declared, “and will rent out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him his fruits in their seasons.”

²² He said to him, 'I will judge you out of your own mouth, you wicked servant! You knew that I was a hard man, taking up what I did not lay down and reaping what I did not sow?

⁴ Then I heard another voice from heaven say: “Come out of her, my people, so that you will not share in her sins or contract any of her plagues.

¹⁰ for fear of her torture they will stand far off, crying, 'Woe and alas, thou great city! thou strong city of Babylon! In one brief hour thy doom has come.'

³ He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see, respect and trust in the LORD.

⁵ There the Israelites were seized with terror, when there was nothing to fear. For God scattered the bones of those who laid siege against you you put them to shame, for God rejected them.

¹¹ A person will say, "Certainly, the righteous are rewarded; certainly there is a God who judges the earth."

⁴² The righteous will see this and rejoice, but all the wicked will shut their mouths. ⁴³ Whoever is wise, let him observe these things; Let them consider the benignities of the LORD."

²⁰ My soul is consumed with longing for your decrees at all times.

¹² And the harp and the viol, the tambourine and flutes and wine are in their feasts; but they do not regard the work of the LORD, nor consider the work of his hands.

²⁸ Fugitives and refugees from Babylon are coming to Zion to tell about the vengeance of the LORD our God, the vengeance for his temple.

¹⁰ The LORD will vindicate us. Come! Let us declare the work of the LORD our God in Zion.

²³ They will comfort you, when you see their way and their doings; then you will know that I have not done all that I have done in it without cause,” says the Sovereign LORD.

⁹ Who is wise that he can understand these things? Who is discerning that he knows them? The ways of the LORD are right, and the righteous walk in them; but transgressors stumble in them.

¹³ In that hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell. Seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the rest were terrified, and gave glory to the God of heaven.

¹⁹ The righteous will see this and rejoice; the innocent will insult him, saying,

¹ In the LORD, I take refuge. How can you say to my soul, "Flee as a bird to your mountain."

²⁰ O keep my soul, and deliver me. Let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in thee.

¹¹ Rejoice in the LORD, and be glad, ye righteous; and shout for joy, all ye upright in heart.

¹⁰ The righteous shall rejoice when he sees vengeance; he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.

² As smoke is driven away, You drive them away; as wax melts before the fire, let the wicked perish in the presence of God. ³ But the righteous shall be glad and rejoice before God, they shall be merry and joyful.

¹¹ Light is sown for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart.

² His seed will be mighty in the land, the generation of the upright will be blessed.

³⁰ It is because of Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God: our righteousness, holiness, and redemption. ³¹ therefore, as it is written, "Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord."

¹⁴ But as for me, may I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

⁴ Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!
