²¹ His mouth was smooth as butter, but his heart was war. His words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords.

⁴ They fully intend to throw him down from his lofty place. They delight in lies. They bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah.

⁸ Their mouths speak lies, and their right hand deceives,

¹¹ Rescue me and deliver me from the control of foreigners, whose mouths speak lies, and whose right hand deceives.

¹⁹ A gossip reveals secrets. So avoid a man who speaks flattering words.

² Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging place for traveling men, that I might leave my people and go away from them! For they are all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men. ³ They use their tongues like a bow. Lies rather than truth fly throughout the land. They progress from one evil to another, and they don't know me," declares the LORD. ⁴ Everyone beware of his neighbor, and do not trust any brother! For every brother will supplant his neighbor, and will walk with slanders. ⁵ Friends deceive each other, and will not speak the truth. They have taught their tongue to speak lies. They weary themselves commiting iniquity. ⁶ "You live in the middle of deceit. Through deceit they refuse to know me," says the LORD.

⁸ "Their tongue is a deadly arrow. It speaks deceit! With the mouth one speaks peace to his neighbor, but inwardly he sets an ambush for him."

²⁴ For there will be no more any false vision nor flattering divination within the house of Israel.

¹⁸ For such as these are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive.

⁵ For, as you know, we never used flattery nor a pretext for greed God is witness
