⁹ He lurks in secret as a lion in his ambush. He lies in wait to catch the helpless. He catches the helpless when he draws him in his net.

¹⁵ But He saves the needy from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty. ¹⁶ So the poor has hope, and injustice shuts her mouth.

⁵ Because of the oppression of the weak and because of the groaning of the needy, I will now arise, says the LORD; I will set him in safety from those who malign him.

¹² They observed me, like a lion eager for prey, and like a young lion lurking in coverts.

¹⁰ All my bones shall say, "LORD, who is like you, who delivers the poor from him who is too strong for him; yes, the poor and the needy from him who robs him?"

¹⁴ The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, to kill those who walk uprightly.

³ For lo, they lie in wait for my soul, mighty ones gather against me; not for my transgression, and not my sin, O LORD.

³¹ for he stands at the right hand of the needy, to save him from those judging his life.

⁵ The proud have hidden a snare for me, they have spread the cords of a net by the path. They have set traps for me. Selah.

³¹ He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for his Maker, but he who is kind to the needy honors him.

¹⁶ He that oppresses the poor to increase his riches, and he that gives to the rich, shall surely come to poverty.

¹⁵ As a roaring lion or a charging bear, so is a wicked ruler over helpless people.

¹⁵ "What do you mean by crushing my people and grinding the face of the poor?" Declares the LORD Almighty.

⁷ And a scoundrel, his weapons are evil; he plans evil devices to ruin the poor with words of deception even when the speech of the needy is right.

²⁶ For among my people are found wicked men, that lie in wait as fowlers, setting snares and traps to catch men.

¹⁰ He is to me as a bear lying in wait, as a lion in hiding.

³ '"She brought up one of her cubs, and he became a strong lion. He learned to tear the prey and he devoured men. ⁴ The nations heard about him. He was trapped in their pit. They led him with hooks to the land of Egypt. ⁵ '"When she saw her hope unfulfilled, her expectation gone, she took another of her cubs and made him a strong lion. ⁶ '"He prowled among the lions, for he was now a strong lion. He learned to tear the prey and he devoured men.

²⁹ The people in the land useth wicked extortion and robbery. They vex the poor and needy and oppress the stranger against right.

⁶ Thus saith the LORD: For three transgressions of Israel, yea, for four, I will not reverse it: because they sell the righteous for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; ⁷ they trample on the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and deny justice to the oppressed; and a man and his father use the same girl, to profane My holy name;

⁴ Will a lion roar in the thicket, when he has no prey? Does a young lion cry out of his den, if he has caught nothing?

¹¹ Forasmuch therefore as you trample on the poor, and take taxes of wheat from him- therefore you who have built houses of cut stone will not dwell in them. You who have planted pleasant vineyards shall not drink their wine. ¹² For I know how many are your offences, and how great are your sins-- you who afflict the just, who take a bribe, and who turn aside the needy in the courts.

² The pious has perished from the earth, and the upright is not among mankind. All of them lie in wait for blood; each one hunts his brother with a net.

¹¹ Where is the lions' hole, the place where the young lions got their food, where the lion and the she-lion were walking with their young, without cause for fear? ¹² The lion tore in pieces enough for his cubs, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his caves with the kill, and his dens with prey.

¹⁵ He takes up all of them with the hook; he catches them in his net, and gathers them in his dragnet. Therefore he rejoices and is glad.

¹⁴ With his own lances you pierced the heads of his warriors, who came out like a windstorm to scatter us their joy is to devour the afflicted who are in hiding.

³ Listen to the wailing of the shepherds, for their splendor is ruined! Listen to the roar of the young lions, for the thickets of the Jordan are ruined!

¹² The hired hand is not the shepherd, and the sheep are not his own. When he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf pounces on them and scatters the flock.

²¹ Don't believe them, because more than 40 of them are planning to ambush him. They have taken an oath not to eat or drink before they have killed him. They are ready now, just waiting for your consent."
