³⁰ I went by the field of the sluggard, by the vineyard of the man void of understanding:

⁸ Just as I have seen, those who plow lawlessness And those who sow misery are harvesting it.

When will you get up from your sleep? ¹⁰ A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest! ¹¹ and your poverty will come on you like a bandit and your desperation like an armed man. ¹² A worthless human, a lawless man Is one who goes about with a perverse mouth, ¹³ who winks with his eyes, who signals with his feet, who motions with his fingers, ¹⁴ planning evil with a perverse mind, continually stirring up discord. ¹⁵ Therefore his calamity will come suddenly. He will be broken suddenly, and that without remedy. ¹⁶ Here are six things that the LORD hates seven, in fact, are detestable to him: ¹⁷ haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood; ¹⁸ a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are swift in running to mischief, ¹⁹ a false witness who utters lies, and he who sows discord among brothers.

³² He who commits adultery with a woman lacks judgment and destroys himself.

¹³ Wisdom is found on the lips of the understanding (discerning). A rod is for the back of him who lacks understanding.

¹¹ He who works his land will have plenty of food, but he who follows worthless things lacks ⌊sense⌋.

¹ And I returned and saw all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and behold, the tears of the oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors was power, and they had no comforter. ² So I commended the dead who had already died as being happier than the living who are still alive. ³ Yea, better than both is he who has not yet been, who has not seen the evil work that is done under the sun. ⁴ And I saw all labor, and all the diligent work, that this is a man's envy from his neighbor. This also is vanity and grasping for the wind. ⁵ The fool folds his hands together and ruins himself. ⁶ Better is a handful, with quietness, than two handfuls with labor and chasing after wind. ⁷ And again I saw a vanity under the sun: ⁸ There is one who is alone, and he has neither son nor brother. There is no end to all of his labor, neither are his eyes satisfied with wealth. For whom then, do I labor, and deprive my soul of enjoyment? This also is vanity, yes, it is a miserable business.

¹⁵ In the days of my vanity I took a view of all classes. Here is a righteous man perishing for his righteous act: there a wicked man continuing in his wickedness.

⁹ All this have I seen, and applied my heart to every work that is done under the sun: there is a time wherein one man rules over another to his own hurt. ¹⁰ In such a case I saw the wicked entombed, Those who used to come and go from the holy place And were lauded in the city where they had done such things. This too is vanity." ¹¹ Whenever a sentence for a crime is not carried out swiftly, the human mind becomes determined to commit evil.
