¹⁵ Is it not lawful for me to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?'

¹⁹ And he said, "I myself will cause all my goodness to pass over before you, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before you, and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will show compassion to whom I will show compassion."

⁹ "Be careful not to think this wicked thought to yourselves: 'The seventh year, the year of remission, is drawing near,' and you show ill will toward your poor relative and not give to him. He may then call to the LORD on account of you, and you will be guilty of sin.

⁵⁴ "The kindest and most sensitive man among you will become stingy toward his brother, the wife he loves, and the children he still has left.

⁴ But the LORD, the God of Israel chose me before all the house of my father to be king over Israel forever. For He has chosen Judah to be the ruler, and of the house of Judah the house of my father. And in my father's house He was pleased to make me king over all Israel. ⁵ And of all my sons, for the LORD has given me many sons, He has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the LORD, over Israel.

⁶ Do not eat the bread of the stingy, and do not desire his delicacies.

²² A stingy man hurries after riches, and doesn't know that poverty waits for him.

⁵ By my great power and outstretched arm I made the earth, mankind, and the animals that are on the face of the earth, and I give it to whomever I see fit. ⁶ "Now I have handed all these countries over to my servant King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. I have even made wild animals serve him. ⁷ And all nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son's son, until the time of his own land comes. And then many nations and great kings shall enslave him.

¹ And Jonas was exceedingly troubled, and was angry: ² And he prayed to the LORD and said, "O LORD, was this not what I said while I was in my homeland? Therefore I originally fled to Tarshish, because I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and having great steadfast love, and one who relents concerning calamity. ³ "Now, O LORD, please take my life from me for it is better for me to die than to live." ⁴ And the Lord said, Have you any right to be angry?

²³ But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

²⁵ At that time Jesus declared, “I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.

²² Greed, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, haughtiness, folly;

² For You granted Him authority over all humanity, so that He may give eternal life to all those You have given Him.

⁴⁵ But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy, and they blasphemously contradicted what Paul was saying.

¹⁵ For he says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion." ¹⁶ So then, it does not depend on man’s desire or effort, but on God’s mercy. ¹⁷ For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: “I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.” ¹⁸ Therefore God has mercy on whom He wants to have mercy, and He hardens whom He wants to harden. ¹⁹ One of you will say to me, “Then why does God still find fault? For who can resist His will?” ²⁰ But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? Shall what is formed say to Him who formed it, “Why have you made me like this?” ²¹ Does not the potter have the right to make from the same lump of clay one vessel for noble use, and another for common use? ²² What if God, intending to show His wrath and make His power known, bore with great patience the vessels of His wrath, prepared for destruction? ²³ What if He did this to make the riches of His glory known to the vessels of His mercy, whom He prepared in advance for glory— ²⁴ us whom he also called, not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles?

⁵ So too at the present time there is a remnant, chosen by grace. ⁶ And if it is by grace, then it is no longer by works. Otherwise, grace would no longer be grace.

⁷ For who makes you so superior? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?

¹¹ In Him we were also chosen as God’s own, having been predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything by the counsel of His will,

¹ As for you, you were dead in your trespasses and sins,

⁵ made us alive with Christ, even when we were dead in our trespasses. It is by grace you have been saved!

¹⁸ He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we would be a kind of firstfruits of His creation.

⁹ Do not complain about each other, brothers, or you will be condemned. Look! The Judge is standing at the door!
