²² Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil because of the Son of Man.

⁵ "'They say: 'Keep away! Do not come near me, for I am too sacred for you! Such people are smoke in my nostrils, a fire that keeps burning all day.'

⁵ Hear the word of the LORD, you who tremble at his word: Your brothers who hate you, who cast you out for my name's sake, have said, Let the LORD be glorified, that we may see your joy. But it is those who will be put to shame.

¹⁰ Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ¹¹ Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. ¹² Rejoice and celebrate, because great is your reward in heaven; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets before you.

¹⁸ On My account, you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles.

²² »Men will hate you because of me. He who endures to the end will be saved.

³⁹ Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.

⁹ So be on your guard. You will be handed over to the councils and beaten in the synagogues. On My account, you will stand before governors and kings as witnesses to them. ¹⁰ And the gospel must first be preached to all nations. ¹¹ Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Say whatever shall be given you in that hour, for it is not you that will speak but the Holy Spirit. ¹² Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child. Children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death. ¹³ "All men will hate you because of my name. He who endures to the end will be saved.

¹⁵ So they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them?

¹⁷ »Men will hate you because of my name.

⁷ the world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify that its deeds are evil.

²² His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jews, since the Jews had already agreed that anyone who acknowledged that Jesus was the Messiah would be thrown out of the synagogue. ²³ This is why his parents said, "He is of age, ask him." ²⁴ So a second time they called the man who had been blind, and said to him, "Give God the praise; we know this man is a sinner." ²⁵ He answered, "Whether he is a sinner or not, I do not know. One thing I know, that though I was blind, now I see." ²⁶ Then they asked him, "What did he do to you? How did he heal your eyes?" ²⁷ He answered them, "I have told you already and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you want to become his disciples, too?" ²⁸ Then they heaped insults on him and said, “You are His disciple; we are disciples of Moses.

³⁴ They replied, “You were born in utter sin, and you are instructing us?” And they threw him out.

⁴² Nevertheless, many of the leaders believed in Him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, for fear that they would be put out of the synagogue.

¹⁸ If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me first, ¹⁹ If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own. Because you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world--that is why the world hates you. ²⁰ "Remember the word I said to you. A servant is not greater than his master. If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they obeyed my word, they will obey yours also. ²¹ But they will treat you like this on account of My name, because they do not know the One who sent Me.

² They will put you out of the synagogues. In fact, a time is coming when anyone who kills you will think he is offering a service to God.

¹⁴ I have given them Your word and the world has hated them; for they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.

¹⁶ I will show him how much he must suffer for my name."

²² The crowd listened to Paul until he made this statement. Then they lifted up their voices and shouted, “Rid the earth of him! He is not fit to live!”

⁵ We have found this man to be a nuisance, stirring up dissension among the Jews all over the world. He is a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes,

¹⁰ We are fools for Christ, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are honored, but we are dishonored. ¹¹ To this very hour we are hungry and thirsty, we are poorly clad, we are brutally treated, we are homeless.

²³ Are they servants of Christ? (I speak as one beside himself.) I am more so: in labors more abundantly, in prisons more abundantly, in stripes above measure, and in deaths often. ²⁴ Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. ²⁵ Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked. I spent a night and a day in the open sea. ²⁶ I have been on frequent journeys, in danger from rivers, in danger from robbers, in danger from my own countrymen, in danger from Gentiles, in danger in the city, in danger in the wilderness, in danger at sea, and in danger from false brethren;

²⁸ without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a clear sign of their destruction but of your salvation, and it is from God. ²⁹ For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for Him, ³⁰ since you are encountering the same struggle you saw I had, and now hear that I still have.

¹⁴ For you, brothers, became imitators of the churches of God in Judea that are in Christ Jesus. You suffered from your own countrymen the very things they suffered from the Jews, ¹⁵ who both killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and also drove us out. They displease God and are hostile to all men,

¹¹ my persecutions, and the sufferings that came upon me in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. What persecutions I endured! Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them. ¹² In fact, any one who desires to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted;

¹⁹ For it is commendable if someone endures pain, suffering unjustly, because of conscience toward God. ²⁰ How is it to your credit if you are beaten for doing wrong and you endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God.

¹⁴ But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear their intimidation; do not be shaken.”

¹² Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial that has come upon you, as though something strange were happening to you. ¹³ But rejoice that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may also be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. ¹⁴ If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. ¹⁵ Indeed, none of you should suffer as a murderer or thief or wrongdoer, or even as a meddler. ¹⁶ But if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but glorify God that you bear this name.
