They intended to kill me, and they raped my concubine and she is dead. ⁶ Then I grabbed my concubine and cut her into pieces, and I sent her throughout all the territory of Israel's inheritance; for they committed a shameful and disgraceful thing in Israel. ⁷ So look, all you sons of Israel! Speak up and give us your advice!" ⁸ All the people arose as one man, saying, "None of us will go to his tent, neither will any of us return to his house. ⁹ But this is what we will do to Gibeah: we will go up against it by the decision of the Lord; ¹⁰ And we will take ten men to the hundred to all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred to a thousand, and a thousand to ten thousand, to take provision for the people, to do for those going to Gibeah of Benjamin; according to all the folly which was done in Israel. ¹¹ So all the men of Israel were gathered together against the city, as one man knit together.

¹⁷ Those people are zealous for you, but not in a good way. Instead, they want to isolate you from us, so that you will be zealous for them. ¹⁸ It is good to be zealous for a good object always, and not only when I am present with you.
