¹⁶ Then Pilate handed him over to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus,

²⁶ Then he released Barabbas for them, and he had Jesus flogged and handed him over to be crucified. ²⁷ Then the governor’s soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole company around Him. ²⁸ They stripped him, and put a scarlet robe on him. ²⁹ And they twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on His head. They put a staff in His right hand and knelt down before Him to mock Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” ³⁰ And they spit upon him, and took the reed and struck him on the head, again and again. ³¹ After they had mocked Him, they removed the robe and put His own clothes back on Him. Then they led Him away to crucify Him.

¹⁵ And wishing to satisfy the crowd, Pilate released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged, and handed Him over to be crucified. ¹⁶ Then the soldiers led Jesus away into the palace (that is, the Praetorium) and called the whole company together. ¹⁷ And they put a purple robe on him, and twisting a crown of thorns, they put it on him; ¹⁸ And they began to salute him: Hail, king of the Jews. ¹⁹ Then they struck him on the head with a reed and spat on him; and falling on their knees, they paid homage to him. ²⁰ And when they had mocked him, they took the purple robe off him, and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him out to crucify him.

²⁴ So Pilate decided to grant their demand. ²⁵ He released the one who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, the one they asked for; but he delivered Jesus to their will.
