¹ Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered, ² Can a man be useful to God? For can a wise man be useful to himself? ³ "Is it any pleasure to the Almighty if you are righteous? Is it profitable to him if you make your ways blameless? ⁴ "Is it for your reverence that he reproves you, and enters into judgment with you? ⁵ "Is not your wickedness great? There is no end to your iniquities. ⁶ For thou hast taken a pledge of thy brother for nought, and stripped off the clothing of the naked. ⁷ You've neglected to give water to the weary, and you've withhold food from the hungry. ⁸ "The powerful possess the land, and the favored live in it. ⁹ "You have sent widows away empty-handed. You crush the arms of the orphans. ¹⁰ Therefore snares are all around you and sudden fear troubles you, ¹¹ or it is so dark you cannot see, and a flood of water covers you. ¹² "Is not God in the height of the heavens? But see how lofty are the highest stars. ¹³ Yet you say, What does El know? Can He judge through murkiness? ¹⁴ "'Thick clouds enwrap him, so that he does not see, and he walks on the dome of the heavens.'" ¹⁵ Do you keep to the old way which evil men have trod? ¹⁶ "They were snatched away before their time. Their foundation is washed away by flood. ¹⁷ "They said to God: 'Leave us alone.' They asked: 'What can the Almighty do to us?' ¹⁸ "Yet he filled their houses with good things. Yet the plans of the wicked are repugnant. ¹⁹ The righteous will see this and rejoice; the innocent will insult him, saying, ²⁰ Truly our foe is not cut down, and fire has eaten their wealth. ²¹ "Get to know God, and you'll be at peace with him, and then prosperity will come to you. ²² "Receive instruction from his mouth, and lay up his words in your heart. ²³ If you return to Shaddai, you will be restored; if you remove wickedness from your tent, ²⁴ And put your gold in the dust, even your gold of Ophir among the rocks of the valleys; ²⁵ Yea, the Almighty shall be your gold and silver, a tower to you, ²⁶ for then you will delight over the Almighty, and you will lift up your face to God. ²⁷ You will pray to him, and he will hear you, and you will pay your vows. ²⁸ Your purposes will come about, and light will be shining on your ways. ²⁹ When they cast down, you shall say, 'be lifted up.' And he will save the humble. ³⁰ He will deliver even him who is not innocent. Yes, he will be delivered through the cleanness of your hands.

¹³ and observe his commands and statutes that I'm commanding you today for your own good.

¹⁵ "Who is the Almighty that we should serve him? And what do we gain if we pray to him?

⁶ If you sin, what effect do you have on Him, And if your transgressions are many, what do you do to Him? ⁷ If you are righteous, what do you give to him, or what does he receive from your hand? ⁸ Your wickedness affects a man like yourself, And your righteousness a son of humanity.

² I said to the LORD, "You are my Lord. Apart from you I have no good thing."

¹³ Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gets understanding. ¹⁴ For her good profit is better than getting silver, and her return is better than fine gold. ¹⁵ She is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire compares with her. ¹⁶ Long life is in her right hand. In her left hand are riches and honor. ¹⁷ Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peaceful. ¹⁸ She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her, and those who hold on to her are blessed

⁷ Wisdom is supreme. Get wisdom. Yes, though it costs all your possessions, get understanding. ⁸ "Love wisdom and she will exalt you. Embrace wisdom and she will honor you. ⁹ She will put a crown of grace on your head, giving you a head-dress of glory.

¹² If you are wise, your wisdom will assist you. If you mock, you alone will be held responsible.

¹¹ Wisdom together with a heritage is good, and a profit to those who see the sun. ¹² Wisdom is a shelter just as money is a shelter. The advantage of knowledge is that wisdom gives lift to those who have it.

²⁹ If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.

¹⁰ So you also, when you have done everything commanded of you, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.’”

⁷ Do not be deceived. God is not mocked! A man will harvest what he sows. ⁸ The one who sows to please his flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; but the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.

¹⁷ And I know, my God, that You try the heart and are pleased with uprightness; I, in the uprightness of my heart, have offered willingly all these things; and now I have watched with joy Your people who are present here offering willingly to You.

¹⁰ But he knows the way that I take: when he has tested me, I shall come forth as gold. ¹¹ My foot has held fast to his steps. I have kept his way, and not turned aside. ¹² "I have not departed from the command of his lips. I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

¹ For the music director. For Jeduthun. A psalm of David. I said, "I will guard my ways that I may not sin with my tongue. I will keep a muzzle over my mouth as long as the wicked are before me."

³ Yes, they do nothing wrong. They walk in his ways. ⁴ You have commanded your precepts, that we should fully obey them. ⁵ Oh that my ways were steadfast to obey your statutes! ⁶ Then I would not be ashamed when I look to all your commands.

⁵⁹ I considered my ways, and turned my steps to your statutes.

¹⁰ He takes no delight in the strength of the horse, nor any pleasure in the legs of a man. ¹¹ the LORD takes pleasure in those who fear him, the ones who hope for his loyal love.

¹ A false balance is an abomination to Yahweh, but accurate weights are his delight.

²⁰ The LORD abhorreth a fained heart; but he hath pleasure in them that are undefiled.

²² The LORD abhoreth deceitful lips; but they that labour for truth please him.

⁸ The LORD abhorreth the sacrifice of the ungodly; but the prayer of the righteous is acceptable to him.

¹⁷ "You have wearied the LORD with your words. You ask, 'How have we wearied you?' By your saying 'All who do evil are good in the eyes of the LORD and he's pleased with them,' or 'Where is the God of justice?'"

¹⁶ Therefore I strive always to have a clear conscience before God and men.

¹ Since we have these promises, dear friends, let's cleanse ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit by becoming mature in our holy fear of God.

¹⁸ I have received full payment and even more; I am amply supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God.

¹² Am I the sea, or a sea monster, that you set a guard over me?

¹⁹ If it is a matter of strength, look, he is mighty. But if it is a matter of justice, who can summon me?

³² For he is not a man, like me, that I could answer him, that we should enter together into a contest.

³ "Do you look on such a person? Will you bring him before you for judgment?

²¹ O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleads for his friend!

²⁹ be afraid for yourselves because of the sword, for wrath brings punishment by the sword, so that you may know that there is judgment."

⁶ Would he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me. ⁷ There an upright man might put his cause before him; and I would be free for ever from my judge.

²³ For he doesn't need to consider a man further, that he should go before God in judgment.

¹¹ When you rebuke and correct man for iniquity, you consume his wealth like a moth. Surely every man is but a breath.” Selah.

⁶ At your rebuke, O God of Jacob, both rider and horse slumber.

¹⁶ - burnt with fire - cut down; they destruct at the rebuke of your face.

³ If you, LORD, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? ⁴ But with you there is forgiveness, so that you may be feared.

² And do not enter into judgment with your servant, because no one alive is righteous before you.

¹⁴ For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.

¹⁴ the LORD enters into judgment with the elders and princes of his people: "It is you who have devoured the vineyard. The plunder of the poor is in your houses. ¹⁵ "What do you mean by crushing my people and grinding the face of the poor?" Declares the LORD Almighty.

¹⁹ Those I love, I rebuke and discipline. Therefore be earnest and repent.

⁷ Remember, I pray thee, Who, being innocent, hath perished? And where have the upright been cut off? ⁸ Just as I have seen, those who plow lawlessness And those who sow misery are harvesting it. ⁹ By the breath of God they perish, and by the blast of his anger they are consumed. ¹⁰ The lion roareth, and the fierce lion howleth - yet the teeth of the young lions are broken. ¹¹ The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the whelps of the lioness are scattered.

⁶ and disclose to you the secrets of wisdom, for true wisdom has two sides. Know this: God has even forgotten some of your sin.

¹⁴ if you put away the sin that is in your hand and allow no evil to dwell in your tent,

⁵ "Your sin inspires your mouth. You choose the tongue of the crafty. ⁶ "Your own mouth condemns you, not mine! Your own lips testify against you.

³¹ "Let him not deceive himself by trusting what is worthless. He will get nothing in return. ³² "Before his time he will be paid in full, and his branches will not flourish. ³³ "He will be like a vine stripped of its unripe grapes, like an olive tree shedding its blossoms. ³⁴ »The company of the godless will be barren. And fire will consume the tents of those who love bribes.

²⁷ "Look, I know your thoughts, the devices with which you would wrong me.

³ His anger was also kindled against his three friends because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.

¹² Who can discern his errors? Forgive me from hidden errors.

¹² For evils without number have encompassed me. My iniquities have overtaken me, so that I am not able to see. They are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart fails me.

²⁶ If you take your neighbor's coat as collateral, you shall return it to him by sunset,

⁶ "Do not take a hand mill or an upper millstone as security for a debt. That would be taking away a man's livelihood.

¹⁰ When you loan a loan of any kind to your brother, you shall not go into his house to bring forth his pledge. ¹¹ Stay outside and let the man to whom you made the loan bring it out to you. ¹² If he is a poor man, don't go to sleep with his collateral in your possession. ¹³ Be sure to return his garment to him at sunset so that he may sleep with it, and he will bless you. It will be a righteous deed before the LORD your God. ¹⁴ "Don't take advantage of a hired person who is poor and needy, whether he's your fellow citizen or a foreigner who lives in your city. ¹⁵ Pay his wages that same day before the sun sets, because he is poor and his livelihood depends on it. Otherwise, he may cry out to the LORD against you, and you will incur guilt." ¹⁶ The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children for the fathers, but every one shall die for his own sin, ¹⁷ You must not deprive the foreigner or the fatherless of justice, nor take a widow's clothing in pledge, ¹⁸ "Remember that you were slaves in Egypt, and that the LORD your God redeemed you from there. I therefore command you to do this.

³ They drive away the donkey of orphans; they take the widow's ox as a pledge.

⁹ "The fatherless are torn from the breast; the poor are taken away as security for a loan. ¹⁰ They cause the naked to go without clothing, and they take away the sheaves from the hungry.

¹⁹ If I have seen any perishing for want of clothing, or any needy without covering; ²⁰ If his heart has not blessed me, and if he was not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

⁷ '"if a man does not oppress anyone, but restores to the debtor his pledge, does not commit robbery, but gives his bread to the hungry and covers the naked with clothing.

¹² '"He oppresses the poor and needy. He robs. He does not return the security for a loan. He looks to idols for help. He does disgusting things.

¹⁶ And he oppresses no one; he requires no pledge for a loan, and he does not commit robbery; he gives his bread to the hungry, and he covers the naked person with a garment.

⁸ "They lie down beside every altar on clothes taken from indebtedness. In the house of their God they drink the wine they have confiscated.

⁷ "If there should be a poor man among your relatives in one of the cities of the land that the LORD your God is about to give you, don't be hard-hearted or tight-fisted toward your poor relative. ⁸ But let your hand be open to give him the use of whatever he is in need of. ⁹ "Be careful not to think this wicked thought to yourselves: 'The seventh year, the year of remission, is drawing near,' and you show ill will toward your poor relative and not give to him. He may then call to the LORD on account of you, and you will be guilty of sin. ¹⁰ You must surely give to him, and your heart must not be grieved when you give to him, because for this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in all that you put your hand to. ¹¹ For the poor will never cease out of the land. Therefore I command you to surely open your hand to your brother, to your needy, and to your poor, in your land.

¹⁷ if I have eaten my morsel alone, and have not shared it with the orphan;

³¹ If the men of my tent did not say, Who has not had full measure of his meat?

⁹ He has scattered abroad; he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever; his horn shall be lifted up with honor.

²⁴ There is one who scatters yet increases more; but a withholder of just due comes only to poverty. ²⁵ The liberal person will prosper. He who waters will be watered.

¹⁷ He who has pity on the poor lends to the LORD, and He will reward his dealing to him.

⁷ "Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into the house? When you see the naked, should you cover him and not hide yourself from your own flesh?

¹⁰ and if you give yourself to the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then your light will rise in darkness and your gloom will be like midday.

⁴² For I was hungry, and you gave me nothing to eat: I was thirsty, and you gave me nothing to drink:

²⁰ On the contrary, “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink. For in so doing, you will heap burning coals on his head.”

¹¹ So the elders and nobles in authority in his town did as Jezebel said in the letter she sent them. ¹² And they proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth in a chief place among the people. ¹³ Then the two men, scoundrels, came, sat opposite him, and the scoundrels witnessed against Naboth before the people, saying, "Naboth cursed God and the king," so they brought him outside of the city and stoned him with stones, and he died. ¹⁴ Then they sent word to Jezebel, saying: "Naboth has been stoned and is dead." ¹⁵ And when Jezebel heard that Naboth was stoned to death, she said to Ahab, "Up, and take possession of the vineyard of Naboth, the Jezreelite, which he denied to give thee for silver, for Naboth is not alive, but dead."

⁸ "Will you show him partiality? Will you argue the case for God?

⁷ "When I went out to the gate of the city, when I took my seat in the square, ⁸ The young men saw me, and went away, and the old men got up from their seats; ⁹ Nobles would resfrain from speaking, covering their mouths with their hands. ¹⁰ The voice of the nobles was hushed, and their tongue stuck to the roof of their mouth. ¹¹ For when the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it commended me: ¹² For I delivered the poor who cried for help, and the fatherless who had none to help him. ¹³ The blessing of the perishing came on me; and I made the widow's heart to sing. ¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my justice was as a robe and a turban. ¹⁵ I was eyes to the blind, and feet to the lame. ¹⁶ "I was a father to the needy! I championed the cause of the stranger. ¹⁷ I broke the fangs of the wicked, and plucked the prey out of his teeth.

³⁴ Have I feared large crowds? Have my family's contempt ever terrified me so that I remained silent and wouldn't go outside."

⁸ The wicked walk on every side, when what is vile is exalted among the sons of men.

³ the captain of fifty, the honorable man, the counselor, the skilled craftsman, and the clever enchanter.

¹⁵ Elders and dignitaries are the head, and prophets who teach lies are the tail.

³ Their hands are on that which is evil to do it diligently. The ruler and judge ask for a bribe; and the powerful man dictates the evil desire of his soul. Thus they conspire together.

²¹ “You shall not wrong an alien or oppress him, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt. ²² "Do not mistreat any widow or orphan. ²³ If you hurt them, they will cry out to me, and I will hear their cry: ²⁴ and My wrath will grow hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

¹⁹ 'Cursed is he who withholds justice from the foreigner, fatherless, and widow.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.'

²¹ "They prey on the barren woman, and does no favors for widows.

¹² For I delivered the poor who cried for help, and the fatherless who had none to help him. ¹³ The blessing of the perishing came on me; and I made the widow's heart to sing.

¹⁶ ¶ If I have disturbed the desire of the poor or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail; ¹⁷ if I have eaten my morsel alone, and have not shared it with the orphan; ¹⁸ for from my youth I reared the orphan like a father, and from my mother's womb I guided the widow.

²¹ If I have raised a hand against the fatherless, because I had around me greater support:

¹⁵ Break the arm of the wicked and evil one; search out his wickedness until You find none.

¹⁷ For the arms of the wicked will be broken, but the LORD upholds the righteous.

⁶ They kill the widow and the alien, and murder the fatherless.

¹⁷ Learn to do well—Seek justice, Correct the oppressor,—Vindicate the fatherless, Plead the cause of the widow,

²³ Your princes are rebels and companions of thieves. Every one loves a bribe and runs after gifts. They do not defend the orphan and the legal dispute of the widow does not come before them.

² to keep back the poor from judgment, and to steal justice from the poor of My people; that widows may be their prey; that they may rob orphans.

⁷ In you have they treated father and mother with contempt. Among you they have oppressed the foreigner. In you they have wronged the fatherless and the widow.

²² "The Sovereign LORD says: 'I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt. I will break his arms, both the strong and the broken. I will make the sword fall from his hand.

⁵ I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against the perjurers, and against those who oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and who deprive the foreigner of justice, and do not fear me," says the LORD of hosts.

³ And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, 'Grant me justice against my adversary.' ⁴ For a while he refused, but later he said to himself, ‘Even though I do not fear God or respect men, ⁵ yet because this widow bothers me, I will protect her, so that she may not finally wear me out with her coming.' "

⁴ "The Almighty's arrows are in me. My spirit drinks in their poison. God's terrors set themselves against me.

²¹ Withdraw your hand far from me, and stop frightening me with your terrors.

⁸ "His feet cast him into a net and he wanders into its mesh. ⁹ "A trap seizes him by the heel and a snare holds him fast. ¹⁰ "A noose is hidden for him on the ground and a trap lies in his path.

⁶ Know ye now that God subverted me; and he folded his net about me.

⁶ On the wicked he will rain blazing coals; fire, sulfur, and scorching wind shall be the portion of their cup.

²⁷ when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when your disaster comes on like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come on you.

²⁵ Do not be afraid of sudden disaster, or the devastation that comes to the wicked. ²⁶ for the LORD will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being taken.

³ While people are saying, “Peace and security,” destruction will come upon them suddenly, like labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

¹⁴ They meet with darkness in the daytime, and grope in the noonday as in the night.

⁶ "The light in his tent becomes dark. The lamp beside him will be put out.

¹⁸ "He is driven from light into darkness and is banished from the world.

⁸ "God has blocked my path so that I cannot go on. He has made my path dark.

³⁴ "Can you raise your voice to the clouds and cover yourself with a flood of water?

⁷ Deep calls to deep at the noise of your waterfalls. All your waves and your billows have swept over me.

¹ Save me, God, for the waters have come up to my neck. ² I sink in deep mire, where there is no foothold. I have come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.

⁴ Then the flood waters would have overwhelmed us, the torrent would have flooded over us; ⁵ the swollen waters would have swept us away.

¹⁹ The way of the wicked is like darkness. They do not know what makes them stumble.

²² and they will look to the earth; and behold, trouble and darkness, gloom of anguish; and they shall be driven into thick darkness.

² He has led me and caused me to walk in darkness, and not in light.

⁵⁴ Waters flowed over my head; then I said, I am cut off.

² A day of darkness and gloom, a day of cloud and thick darkness, like the dawn spreads on the mountains, a great and strong army! There has been nothing like it from old, and after it nothing will be again for generations to come. ³ A fire devoureth before them, and behind them a flame blazeth; the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing escapeth them.

³ For You cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the current surrounded me; all Your breakers and Your waves passed over me.

¹² But the sons of the kingdom will be thrown out into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

⁸ "They are higher than the heavens. What can you do? They are deeper than the depths of the grave. What can you know?

³ When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have ordained; ⁴ what is man, that You are mindful of him, and the son of man, that You care for him?

³ Our God is in heaven. He does whatever he pleases.

¹⁶ The highest heavens belong to the LORD, but he gave the earth to human beings.

² Do not be rash with your mouth, and do not let your heart be hasty to utter anything before God; for God is in heaven, and you on earth. Therefore let your words be few.

¹⁵ For thus says the high and lofty one who resides forever, and whose name is holy: "I reside in a high and holy place, and with the contrite and humble of spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite.

¹ the LORD says, “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. What kind of house will you build to me? Where will I rest?

¹¹ He says in his heart, "God has forgotten. He has hidden his face. He never sees."

⁷ See what pours out of their mouths, swords from their lips! They think: Who will hear us?

⁵ They encourage themselves in evil plans. They talk about laying snares secretly. They say, "Who will see them?"

¹¹ Then they say, "How can God know? Does the Most High have knowledge?"

⁷ They say, "The LORD cannot see, and the God of Jacob will not notice." ⁸ Consider, you senseless among the people; you fools, when will you be wise? ⁹ He who implanted the ear, won't he hear? He who formed the eye, won't he see?

¹⁵ Woe to those who go deep to hide their purpose from the LORD! And their works are in the dark, and they say, Who sees us? And who knows us?

¹² Then He said to me, Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the dark, every man in his rooms of images? They say, 'the LORD doesn't see us; the LORD has forsaken the land'.

⁹ Then he said to me, "The iniquity of the house of Israel and Judah is exceedingly great, and the land is full of blood, and the city full of perversion: for they say, 'The LORD has forsaken the land, and the LORD doesn't see.'

¹² And it shall be in that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and punish the men who are settled on their lees; who say in their heart, the LORD will not do good, nor will He do evil.

⁹ He covers the face of the full moon; he spreads his cloud over it.

²² There is no darkness or deep shadow where troublemakers can hide.

¹⁴ From His dwelling place He looks on all the people of the earth.

² Cloud and thick darkness are surrounding him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.

¹ For the music director. Of David. A psalm. O LORD, you have searched me, and you know me. ² You know when I sit down and when I rise up. You understand my thought from afar.

¹¹ If I say: Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light around me. ¹² even the darkness doesn’t hide from you, but the night shines as the day. The darkness is like light to you.

²⁴ Can any hide himself in secret places so that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.

² There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. ³ What you have spoken in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the housetops.

⁵ the LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become. Every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time.

¹¹ The earth was corrupt in God's sight. It was full of violence. ¹² God saw how corrupt the earth had become. All the people on earth had corrupted their ways. ¹³ God said to Noah: "I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am going to destroy them with the earth.

²⁶ Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man: ²⁷ People were eating and drinking, marrying and being given in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.

¹¹ In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, on the seventeenth day of the second month, on that day all the springs of the great deep burst forth, and the floodgates of the sky were opened.

¹⁷ The flood came upon the earth for forty days. As the waters increased, they lifted the ark high above the earth. ¹⁸ The waters rose, and increased greatly on the earth; and the ship floated on the surface of the waters. ¹⁹ They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered. ²⁰ The waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than twenty feet. ²¹ Every living thing that moved on the earth perished: birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind. ²² Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils died. ²³ Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out. Men and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds of the air were wiped from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark. ²⁴ The waters flooded the earth for a hundred and fifty days.

¹⁹ as water wears away stones and torrents wash away the soil, so you destroy man's hope.

³² "Before his time he will be paid in full, and his branches will not flourish.

²³ But you, O God, will bring them down into the pit of destruction. Bloodthirsty and deceitful men will not live out half their days, but I will trust in you.

²⁴ Do not take me away in the midst of my days; Your years are through all generations.

¹⁷ Do not be very wicked, and do not be a fool; why should you die before your time?

²⁶ But everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. ²⁷ The rain came down, the floods rose, the winds blew and beat upon that house, and down it fell — with a mighty crash."

³⁷ As it was in the days of Noah, so will it be at the coming of the Son of Man. ³⁸ For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark. ³⁹ and knew nothing about it until the Flood came and swept them all away, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.

¹⁹ by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison, ²⁰ who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah, while the ark was being built. In the ark a few people, only eight souls, were saved through water.

⁵ if He did not spare the ancient world when He brought the flood on its ungodly people, but preserved Noah, a preacher of righteousness, among the eight;

¹⁰ Their bulls breed without fail. Their cows calve, and do not miscarry.

¹⁴ "They say to God: 'Leave us alone! We do not desire to know your ways.' ¹⁵ "Who is the Almighty that we should serve him? And what do we gain if we pray to him?

⁶ Many say, “Who will show us any good?” Yahweh, let the light of your face shine on us.

¹¹ Remove from the way, turn aside from the path, cause to cease from before us the Holy One of Israel.

¹⁴ You have said, 'It is useless to serve God! What is the gain if we keep his requirements, and if we walk as mourners before the LORD of hosts?

²⁹ “What do you want with us, Son of God?” they shouted. “Have You come here to torture us before the proper time?”

³⁴ Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus. And when they saw Him, they begged Him to leave their region.

²⁸ And since they did not see fit to retain the knowledge of God, God gave them over to a base mind, to do what ought not to be done.

⁷ The lord makes poor, and he enriches; he humbles, and elevates.

⁶ The tents of robbers prosper. Those who provoke God are secure, who carry their god in their hands.

¹⁶ Lo, their prosperity is not in their hand: the counsel of the wicked is far from me

¹ Blessed is the man who doesn't walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the way of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers;

¹⁴ from men by your hand, Yahweh, from men of the world, whose portion is in this life. You fill the belly of your cherished ones. Your sons have plenty, and they store up wealth for their children.

² You plant them, and they take root. They grow and bear fruit. You are near their lips, but far from their mind.

¹⁷ Yet He has not left Himself without testimony to His goodness: He gives you rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and gladness.”

¹⁶ ‘After this I will return and rebuild David’s fallen tent. Its ruins I will rebuild, and I will restore it,

²³ If a calamity causes sudden death, he'll mock at the despair of the innocent.

¹¹ Let mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of your judgments.

⁶ And the righteous will see and fear, and will laugh at him, saying,

¹⁰ The righteous shall rejoice when he sees vengeance; he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.

⁸ Zion heard, and rejoiced; and the daughters of Judah were glad, because of thy judgments, O LORD.

⁴² The righteous will see this and rejoice, but all the wicked will shut their mouths.

¹⁰ When the righteous prosper, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, there is shouting.

²⁰ Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and apostles and prophets; for God has judged her for what she did to you.

¹ After this I heard a sound like the roar of a great multitude in heaven, shouting: “Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God! ² for true and just are his judgments. He has judged the great prostitute who was corrupting the earth with her lewdness and he has avenged on her the blood of his servants." ³ And again they shouted, "Hallelujah! The smoke from her goes up for ever and ever."

²⁴ And the LORD rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the LORD out of the heavens.

¹⁶ While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “The fire of God has fallen from the sky, and has burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”

⁷ Remember, I pray thee, Who, being innocent, hath perished? And where have the upright been cut off?

³ "Does God pervert justice? Does the Almighty pervert what is right? ⁴ "When your children sinned against him, he gave them over to the power of their sin.

³⁰ "He will not escape the darkness; a flame will wither his shoots, and the breath of God's mouth will carry him away.

¹⁸ "What he toiled for he must give back uneaten. He will not enjoy the profit from his trading. ¹⁹ "For he has oppressed and forsaken the poor and left them destitute. He has violently seized houses he did not build.

²⁶ "Total darkness lies in wait for his treasures. A fire will consume him and devour what is left in his tent.

²⁷ "Look, I know your thoughts, the devices with which you would wrong me. ²⁸ You ask, 'Where is the noble person's house?' and 'Where are the tents where the wicked live?'

¹ Now there were some present at the same time who told him about the Galileans, whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. ² And Jesus answered them, "Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered this way? ³ No, I tell you. But unless you repent, you too will all perish. ⁴ Or those eighteen who were killed when the tower of Siloam collapsed on them: Do you think that they were more sinful than all the others living in Jerusalem? ⁵ No, I tell you. But unless you repent, you too will all perish.”

²⁹ But on the day Lot left Sodom, fire and brimstone rained down from heaven and destroyed them all. ³⁰ It will be just like that on the day the Son of Man is revealed.

⁶ if He condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to destruction, reducing them to ashes as an example of what is coming on the ungodly; ⁷ and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy lives of lawless men

⁹ "And you, Solomon my son, know the God of your father and serve him with a whole heart and a willing mind, for the LORD searches all hearts and understands every plan and all thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you abandon him, he will reject you forever.

¹⁰ Young lions lack and go hungry, but those who seek the LORD will never lack any good thing.

⁵ "Let them come to me for refuge. Let them make peace with me, yes, let them make peace with me."

¹⁹ creating fruit of lips. Peace, peace to the far and near," says the LORD, "and I will heal him. ²⁰ But the wicked are like the troubled sea, which cannot rest, and whose waters cast up mire and dirt. ²¹ "There is no peace," says my God, "for the wicked."

²⁵ Reconcile quickly with your adversary, while you are still on the way to court. Otherwise he may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison.

³ Now this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.

³⁶ As to the message which he sent to the children of Israel telling the good news of peace through Jesus Christ — who is Lord of all —

⁶ For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

²⁰ So then, we are Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God!

¹⁴ For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, ¹⁵ by abolishing in His flesh the law of commandments and decrees. He did this to create in Himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace ¹⁶ and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by which he put to death their enmity. ¹⁷ He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near.

⁷ And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

¹ And now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and to the ordinances, which I teach you, to do them, that you may live and go in and possess the land which the LORD, the God of your fathers, gives you. ² You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, to keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

⁶ These words, which I command you today, shall be on your heart; ⁷ Repeat them to your sons, and speak of them when you sit in your house, when you walk on the road, when you lie down and when you arise. ⁸ Tie them as reminders on your forearm, bind them on your forehead, ⁹ and write them on the door frames of your house and on your gates."

¹² "I have not departed from the command of his lips. I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

¹¹ I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

¹ My son, if you will receive my words, and store up my commandments within you, ² so as to turn your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding; ³ if, indeed, you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, ⁴ If you seek it as for silver And search for it as for buried treasures, ⁵ then you will understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. ⁶ For the LORD gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. ⁷ He lays up sound wisdom for the upright. He is a shield to those who walk in integrity, ⁸ guarding the paths of the just and protecting the way of his faithful ones. ⁹ Then you will understand what is right, just, and upright every good path.

⁴ Father taught me. He said: »Remember my words in your heart. Obey my commandments and live.

²¹ Do not let them out of your sight; keep them within your heart.

¹⁶ But to me your word is a joy, making my heart glad; for I am named by your name, O Lord God of armies.

³⁵ The good man brings good things out of his good store of treasure, and the evil man brings evil things out of his evil store of treasure.

⁵² He said to them: Therefore, every scribe that is trained for the kingdom of heaven, is like the master of a house, who brings out of his treasury things new and old.

¹⁹ But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.

⁵¹ Then He went down to Nazareth with them and was subject to them. But His mother treasured up all these things in her heart.

¹ Now then, brothers, you learned from us how you ought to live and to please God, as in fact you are doing. We ask and encourage you in the Lord to do so even more. ² For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.

¹³ Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow. For thus says LORD, the God of Israel, There is what has been set apart in the midst of thee, O Israel. Thou cannot stand before thine enemies until ye take aw ¹⁴ "Tomorrow morning you shall come forward tribe by tribe. The tribe that the LORD selects shall come forward by clans, the clan that the LORD selects shall come forward by households, and the household that the LORD selects shall come forward one by one. ¹⁵ The one caught with the devoted things will be burned with fire, he and all that belongs to him, because he transgressed the covenant of the LORD, and because he did a disgraceful thing in Israel." '" ¹⁶ So Joshua rose up early in the morning, and brought Israel by their tribes; and the tribe of Judah was taken:

⁵ "But if you will look to God and plead with the Almighty, ⁶ if you are pure and upright, even now he will rouse himself on your behalf and restore you to your rightful place.

¹³ "Yet if you devote your heart to him and stretch out your hands to him, ¹⁴ if you put away the sin that is in your hand and allow no evil to dwell in your tent,

¹⁴ "What he tears down cannot be rebuilt. The man he imprisons cannot be released.

¹⁵ "Fire resides in his tent; burning sulfur is scattered over his dwelling.

²² The LORD will strike Egypt, striking and healing. They will return to the LORD, and he will listen to their pleas, and will heal them.

⁶ Return as you had deeply revolted, O children of Israel.

¹⁵ He who walks righteously and speaks what is right, who rejects gain from extortion and keeps his hand from accepting bribes, who stops his ears against plots of murder and shuts his eyes against contemplating evil.

⁶ Seek the LORD while he may be found. Call on him while he is near. ⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.

⁴ "I will build you and you will be rebuilt, O virgin of Israel! You will take up your tambourines and go to the dances of the merrymakers.

¹ "Return, Israel, to the LORD your God, for you have fallen due to your own iniquity. ² Take words with you, and return to the LORD. Tell him, "Forgive all our sins, and accept that which is good, and we will offer the fruit of our lips.

³ Therefore tell them: Thus says the LORD of hosts: 'Return to me,' says the LORD of hosts, 'and I will return to you,' says the LORD of hosts.

³ He responded to me, "This is the curse that is going out over the surface of the whole earth, because, according to this side of the scroll, all thieves will be ejected, and according to the other side of the scroll, all liars will be ejected." ⁴ I will cause it to go out," says the LORD of hosts, "and it will enter into the house of the thief, and into the house of him who swears falsely by my name; and it will remain in the midst of his house, and will destroy it with its timber and its stones."

²⁰ but to those in Damascus first, and in Jerusalem and all the region of Judea and to the Gentiles, I proclaimed that they should repent and turn to God, doing deeds worthy of repentance.

⁷ rooted and built up in Him, established in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

¹⁹ Nevertheless, God's firm foundation stands, having this seal: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Everyone who names the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness."

²⁰ But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith, by praying in the Holy Spirit,

²⁹ Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were sons of Joktan.

²⁸ They sailed as far as Ophir and brought back 31,500 pounds of gold for Solomon.

²¹ All king Solomon's drinking vessels were of gold, and all the vessels of the House of the Forest of Lebanon were of pure gold. None were of silver, because it was considered of little value in the days of Solomon.

⁴⁸ Jehoshaphat made ships of Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold, but they didn't go; for the ships wrecked at Ezion Geber.

⁵ And the bronze altar that Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made was there before the tabernacle of the LORD. And Solomon and the assembly sought it out.

¹⁰ The servants of Huram and the servants of Solomon, who brought gold from Ophir, also brought algum trees and precious stones.

²⁷ The king made silver as common in Jerusalem as stones. He made cedars as plentiful as fig trees in the foothills.

²⁵ If I have rejoiced over my great riches, and because my hand had gotten much.

⁹ Kings' daughters are among your honorable women. At your right hand the queen stands in gold of Ophir.

¹² I will make a man more precious than fine gold, even man than the gold of Ophir.

¹ After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, "Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward."

⁵ Yahweh assigned my portion and my cup. You made my lot secure. ⁶ The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; yea, I have a beautiful inheritance.

² the LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower.

¹¹ For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.

⁶ He will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation and wisdom and knowledge. Respect for the LORD is the key to this treasure.

¹⁰ "'Do not fear for I am with you! Do not be dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.'

³¹ What then shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

¹⁰ sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything.

⁵ Listen, my dearly loved brothers; did not God choose those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be wealthy in faith and to inherit the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?

¹⁵ then you will lift up your face without shame. You will stand firm without fear.

¹⁰ "Will he find delight in the Almighty? Will he call upon God at all times?

⁹ For he has said, It profits a man nothing when he is accepted with God.

¹ Of David. To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul.

⁴ Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

⁴ Bring joy to the soul of your servant, for to you, Lord, do I lift up my soul.

⁸ In the morning let me hear of your gracious love, for in you I trust. Cause me to know the way I should take, because I have set my hope on you.

³ ¶ As the apple tree among the trees of the wild, so is my beloved among the sons. I desired to sit under his shadow, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.

¹⁴ then you shall delight yourself in the LORD. And I will cause you to ride on the heights of the earth, and make you eat with the inheritance of your father Jacob. For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.

²² For in my inner being I delight in God’s Law.

²⁰ whenever our hearts condemn us; for God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. ²¹ Dear friends, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God,

²⁶ "He prays to God and finds favor with him. He sees God's face and shouts for joy! God restores him to his righteous state.

²⁸ But they caused the cry of the poor to be brought before Him, So that He heard the cry of the humble.

¹⁴ Offer thanksgiving to God; and pay your vows to the Most High. ¹⁵ Call on me in the day of trouble. I will deliver you, and you will honor me."

¹² Your vows are on me, God. I will give thank offerings to you.

¹³ I will come to your house with burnt offerings. I will fulfill my vows to you ¹⁴ which my lips promised, and my mouth spoke, when I was in distress.

¹⁷ I cried to Him with my mouth, and exalted Him with my tongue. ¹⁸ If I cherished sin in my heart, the Lord wouldn’t have listened. ¹⁹ But God hath heard me; and considered the voice of my prayer. ²⁰ Thanks be to God, who has not rejected my prayer or taken away his loving kindness from me.

¹⁵ He will call upon me and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him and honor him.

¹ I love the LORD because he has heard my prayer for mercy;

¹⁴ I will fulfill my vows to the LORD in the presence of all his people.

⁴ When you make a vow to God, do not delay in fulfilling it, for he takes no pleasure in fools. Fulfill what you vow!

⁹ Then you will call, and the LORD will answer. You will cry for help, and he will say, 'Here I am.' “If you take away from among you the yoke, finger pointing, and speaking wickedly;

⁹ But as for me, with a voice of thanksgiving I will sacrifice to you; what I have vowed I will pay. Deliverance is the LORD's!"

¹⁴ This is the confidence that we have toward him: that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. ¹⁵ And if we know that he hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.

³ when his lamp shone upon my head, and by his light I walked through darkness,

⁴ He will give you according to your heart, and fulfill all your plans.

¹⁷ Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us; establish the work of our hands for us; yes, establish the work of our hands.

¹¹ Light is sown for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart.

⁴ Risen—in darkness, is light to the upright, The gracious and compassionate and righteous.

¹⁸ The path of the righteous is like the light of dawn that grows brighter until the full light of day.

²¹ and when you turn to the right hand, and when you turn to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying, This is the way, walk in it.

³⁷ Who can speak and it will happen if the Lord has not commanded it?

² But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise, with healing in its wings, and you will go out and leap like fattened calves.

²² If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask in prayer.”

¹² Once again, Jesus spoke to the people and said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.”

¹⁵ Instead, you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that."

¹⁹ From six troubles he will deliver you, and in seven evil shall not touch you. ²⁰ In famine, He will ransom you from death, And in battle from the hands of the sword. ²¹ "You will be protected from the sharp tongue and you will not be afraid when destruction comes. ²² You'll laugh at destruction and famine; and you need not fear the beasts of the earth. ²³ For you will have a covenant with the stones of the field, And the wild animal of the field will be at peace with you. ²⁴ You will know peace in your tent. You will inspect your house and find nothing missing. ²⁵ "You will find that your children are many and your descendants are like the grass of the earth. ²⁶ You shall come to the grave in full vigor, like a stack of grain comes up in its season. ²⁷ "Look, we have searched this out—it is true; hear it and know it yourself."

² I will be glad and rejoice in you. I will sing praise to your name, O Most High. ³ When my enemies turn back, they stumble and perish before you.

¹⁴ Because he loves me, therefore I will deliver him; I will protect him because he knows my name. ¹⁵ He will call upon me and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him and honor him. ¹⁶ With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation.

⁹ For, lo, Your enemies, O LORD; for, lo, Your enemies shall perish; all the evildoers shall be scattered. ¹⁰ But you have exalted my horn like that of a wild ox; you have anointed me with fresh oil. ¹¹ My eyes gloat over those who spy on me. My ears hear the evildoers attacking me.

⁶ Though the LORD is high, yet He looks upon the lowly; but the proud He knows from afar.

²³ A man's pride brings him low, but one of lowly spirit gains honor.

² And my hand has made all these things, and all these came to be," declares the LORD, "but I look to this one: to the humble and the contrite of spirit and the one frightened at my word.

²⁶ Thus sayeth the LORD God: Take away the mitre, and put off the crown, and so is it away: the humble is exalted, and the proud brought low. ²⁷ (21:32) A ruin, a ruin, a ruin, will I make it; this also shall be no more, until he come whose right it is, and I will give it him.

¹² For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

⁵² He has brought down rulers from their thrones, but has exalted the humble.

¹¹ For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

⁹ To some who trusted in their own righteousness and viewed others with contempt, He also told this parable: ¹⁰ "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. ¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not like other men--swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. ¹² I fast twice a week; I give a tenth of all that I get.' ¹³ But the tax-collector stood at a distance and would not even lift his eyes to heaven, but continued to beat his breast, and say, 'O God, have mercy on me, a sinner!' ¹⁴ I tell you, this man, rather than the Pharisee, went home justified. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”

⁶ But He gives us more grace. This is why it says: “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

⁵ Young men, in the same way, submit yourselves to your elders. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

²⁶ the LORD said, “If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare the whole place for their sake.” ²⁷ Then Abraham answered and said, Now I have taken upon me to speak to my Lord, I who am but dust and ashes! ²⁸ "Suppose there were five less than the fifty righteous. Would you destroy the entire city for lack of five?" So He (God) said: "If I find there forty-five, I will not destroy it." ²⁹ And once again he spoke to him and said, "What if forty are found there?" And he answered, "I will not do it on account of the forty." ³⁰ And he said, "Please, let not my Lord be angry, and I will speak. What if thirty be found there?" And he answered, "I will not do it if I find thirty there." ³¹ He said, "See now, I have taken it on myself to speak to the Lord. What if there are twenty found there?" He said, "I will not destroy it for the twenty's sake." ³² He said, Oh don't let the Lord be angry, and I will speak just once more. What if ten are found there? He said, I will not destroy it for the ten's sake.

⁷ And it happened after the LORD had spoken these words to Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against you and your two friends. For you have not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has. ⁸ "So now take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and sacrifice a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer and not deal with you according to your folly. You did not speak correctly about me, as my servant Job has."

²⁰ the LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands he has repaid me.

⁴ He that has clean hands, and a pure heart; who has not lifted up his soul to vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.

¹⁵ "When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide my eyes from you. Even though you offer many prayers, I will not listen because your hands are full of blood.

¹² Those among you will rebuild the ancient ruins. You will raise up the age-old foundations. You will be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of the streets in which to dwell.

¹ "Roam about through the streets of Jerusalem, and look please, and take note, and search at its public squares, if you can find a person who does justice, who seeks honesty, so that I may forgive it.

⁹ "Now, please entreat the favor of God, that he may be gracious to us. With this, will he accept any of you?" says the LORD of hosts.

¹⁹ Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, "Why couldn't we drive it out?" ²⁰ “Because you have so little faith.” He answered. “For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

¹⁵ But the evil spirit answered them, "Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you?" ¹⁶ The man who had the evil spirit jumped on them, and overpowered them. He gave them such a beating that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

²⁴ and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must stand before Caesar. And look, God has granted you the lives of all who sail with you.’

⁸ Therefore, I want men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands, without anger or dissension.

¹⁵ And the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick. The Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. ¹⁶ Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
