¹² On all the barren heights in the desert destroyers will come. Indeed, a sword of the LORD will devour from one end of the land to the other. There will be no peace for any person.

⁸ And in Tahpenes the word of the LORD happened unto Jeremiah, saying, ⁹ "Take large stones in your hands, and, in the sight of the men of Judah, bury them in the mortar of the brickwork at the entrance of Pharaoh's house in Tahpanhes.

¹ This is the word that was showed to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews, which dwelt in Egypt: at Migdol, at Tahpenes, at Memphis, and in the land of Pathros.

³ Prepare you the buckler and shield and draw near to battle. ⁴ Harness the horses and mount the steeds! And take your stand with helmets! Polish the spears! Put on the body armor!

¹⁰ That day belongs to the LORD of the Heavenly Armies. It is a day of vengeance to take vengeance on his foes. The sword will devour and be satisfied, and will drink its fill of their blood. For the Lord GOD of the Heavenly Armies will hold a sacrifice in the land of the north, by the Euphrates river.

¹⁶ "'I will set fire to Egypt. Sin will be in much pain. Thebes will be broken into pieces, and Memphis will be in trouble every day. ¹⁷ The young men of Heliopolis, and of Bubastus shall fall by the sword, and they themselves shall go into captivity. ¹⁸ And at Tahpanhes the day will become dark when I break the yoke of Egypt, and in it the majesty of its strength will come to an end. A cloud will cover it, and its daughters will go into captivity.

⁹ Proclaim this among the nations: "Prepare for war. Stir up the mighty men. Let all the warriors draw near. Let them come up. ¹⁰ Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruning hooks into spears. Let the weak say, 'I am strong.' ¹¹ Hurry and come, all the nations, from all around, and gather yourselves there. Bring down your mighty warriors, O LORD! ¹² Let the nations, be roused, and come up, into the Vale of Jehoshaphat,—for, there, will I sit to judge all the nations, on every side.

¹³ "I am against you," said the LORD Almighty! "I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword will devour your young lions. I will destroy your prey from the earth, and the voice of your messengers will be heard no more."
