¹ O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. ² I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the Law, or by hearing with faith? ³ Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now trying to be made complete by the flesh? ⁴ Have you suffered so much for nothing—if it really was for nothing? ⁵ Does God supply you with the Spirit and work miracles among you because you do the actions of the law or because you believe what you heard? ⁶ Thus Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness. ⁷ Understand, then, that those who have faith are the sons of Abraham. ⁸ The Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and foretold the gospel to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.” ⁹ So those who have faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith. ¹⁰ All who rely on works of the Law are under a curse. For it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.” ¹¹ And it is clear that no one is justified before God by the Law, because, “The righteous will live by faith.” ¹² The Law, however, is not based on faith; on the contrary, “The one who does these things will live by them.” ¹³ Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law by becoming a curse for us. For it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.” ¹⁴ He redeemed us so that the blessing promised to Abraham would come to the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit. ¹⁵ Brothers, let me use an example from everyday life. Once a person's will has been ratified, no one can cancel it or add conditions to it. ¹⁶ The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. The Scripture does not say, “and to seeds,” meaning many, but “and to your seed,” meaning One, who is Christ. ¹⁷ What I mean is this: The Law that came four hundred thirty years later does not revoke the covenant previously established by God, so as to cancel the promise. ¹⁸ For if the inheritance depends on the Law, then it no longer depends on a promise; but God freely granted it to Abraham through a promise. ¹⁹ Why then was the Law given? It was added because of transgressions, until the arrival of the seed to whom the promise referred. It was administered through angels by a mediator. ²⁰ Now a mediator does not represent just one party; but God is one. ²¹ Is the Law, then, opposed to the promises of God? Not at all! For if a law had been given that could impart life, then righteousness would certainly have come from the Law. ²² But the scripture has declared all to be prisoners of sin, so that the promise, given on the basis of faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe. ²³ Before this faith came, we were held in custody under the Law, locked up until faith should be revealed. ²⁴ So the law was our tutor to lead us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. ²⁵ Now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian. ²⁶ You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. ²⁷ For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. ²⁸ There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. ²⁹ And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise.

⁶ "Is this how you repay the LORD, you foolish and unwise people? Is he not your Father and creator, who made you and formed you?

¹³ Then Samuel said to Saul, "You have behaved foolishly! You have not kept the command of the LORD your God which he commanded you. For then, the LORD would have established your kingdom over Israel forever.

²⁶ But everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.

²⁴ For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders that would deceive even the elect, if that were possible. ²⁵ He said to them, “Foolish men, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!

⁷ So the word of God continued to spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem grew rapidly, and a great number of priests became obedient to the faith.

⁹ Prior to that time, a man named Simon had practiced sorcery in the city and amazed the people of Samaria. He claimed to be someone great, ¹⁰ and all the people, from the least to the greatest, heeded his words and said, “This man is the divine power called the Great Power.” ¹¹ They paid close attention to him because he had amazed them for a long time with his sorcery.

⁸ But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow wickedness, there will be wrath and anger.

¹⁷ But thanks be to God that, though you once were slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were committed.

¹⁶ But not all of them welcomed the good news. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our message?”

²³ but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, ²⁴ but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

² For I decided to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

²⁶ For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.

⁵ We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ,

³ But I am afraid that just as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.

¹³ For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. ¹⁴ And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. ¹⁵ It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their actions.

⁶ I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you to the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel.

¹⁴ When I saw that they were not walking in line with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas in front of them all, “If you, who are a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you compel the Gentiles to live like Jews?

³ Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now trying to be made complete by the flesh?

⁹ But now that you know God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you are turning back to those weak and worthless principles? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again?

⁷ You were running the race beautifully. Who cut in on you and stopped you from obeying the truth? ⁸ Such persuasion does not come from the One who calls you.

⁸ Though I am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,

¹⁴ Then we will no longer be infants, tossed about by the waves and carried around by every wind of teaching and by the clever cunning of men in their deceitful scheming.

¹⁵ Be strictly careful, then, how you live, not as unwise but as wise.

⁸ Taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

⁹ The coming of the lawless one will be accompanied by the power of Satan. He will use every kind of power, including miraculous signs, lying wonders, ¹⁰ and with all the deception of wickedness for those who are to perish, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. ¹¹ For this reason, God will send them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie, ¹² and so that all may be condemned who have not believed the truth but have taken pleasure in wickedness.

⁴ he is conceited and understands nothing. Instead, he has an unhealthy interest in controversies and semantics, out of which come envy, strife, abusive talk, evil suspicions,

⁹ and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him,

⁸ By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.

²² Since you have purified your souls by obedience to the truth, so that you have a genuine love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from a pure heart.

¹⁷ For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who disobey the gospel of God?

¹⁸ With lofty but empty words, they appeal to the sensual passions of the flesh and entice the ones who are just escaping from those who live in error.

²⁰ But I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. By her teaching she misleads My servants to be sexually immoral and to eat food sacrificed to idols.

¹³ He performs great signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to earth in the sight of men. ¹⁴ Because of the signs it was given to perform on behalf of the first beast, it deceived those who dwell on the earth, telling them to make an image to the beast that had been wounded by the sword and yet had lived.

³ For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her adulteries, and the kings of the earth have committed adultery with her, and the merchants of the earth have grown rich with her excessive luxuries.

³⁸ Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

¹⁵ They on arrival prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit.

⁴⁴ While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all who heard the message. ⁴⁵ All the circumcised believers who had accompanied Peter were amazed that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles. ⁴⁶ For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Then Peter said, ⁴⁷ "Can any man keep these people from being baptized with water? They have received the Holy Spirit as we have."

¹⁵ As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, just as He had come upon us at the beginning. ¹⁶ Then I remembered what the Lord had said, 'John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.' ¹⁷ So if God gave them the same gift as he gave us, who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could oppose God?" ¹⁸ When they heard this, their objections were put to rest, and they glorified God, saying, “So then, God has granted even the Gentiles repentance unto life.”

⁸ "God knows their hearts and showed that he accepted them by giving them Holy Spirit just as he did to us.

² and asked them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" They answered him, "No, we haven't even heard that there is a Holy Spirit." ³ "Then," said he, "what were you baptized in?" "In John's baptism," they replied. ⁴ Paul explained: “John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the One coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” ⁵ On hearing this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus; ⁶ And when Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.

¹⁷ For in the gospel God's righteousness is being revealed from faith to faith, as it is written, "The righteous will live by faith."

¹⁶ But not all of them welcomed the good news. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our message?” ¹⁷ Consequently, faith comes of hearing; and hearing, through the word of Christ.

⁷ Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. ⁸ To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by the same Spirit, ⁹ to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, ¹⁰ to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in various tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. ¹¹ All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, who apportions them to each one as He determines. ¹² The body is a unit, though it is comprised of many parts. And although its parts are many, they all form one body. So it is with Christ. ¹³ For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free, and we were all given one Spirit to drink.

⁴ For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the one we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough.

⁵ Does God supply you with the Spirit and work miracles among you because you do the actions of the law or because you believe what you heard?

¹⁴ He redeemed us so that the blessing promised to Abraham would come to the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.

¹³ In him, you also have heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having also believed, you were sealed in him with the promised Holy Spirit, ¹⁴ who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance, until the redemption of those who are God's possessionto the praise of his glory.

⁴ God also testified about it with signs, wonders, and various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit given according to his will.

⁴ It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit,

¹² It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they foretold the things now announced by those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.

⁷ So you are no longer slaves but a son. And as a son God has made you an heir. ⁸ Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods. ⁹ But now that you know God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you are turning back to those weak and worthless principles? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again? ¹⁰ You are observing special days and months and seasons and years!

⁴ You who are trying to be justified by the Law have been severed from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. ⁵ But by faith we eagerly await through the Spirit the hope of righteousness. ⁶ For in Christ Jesus, neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. All that matters is faith, expressed through love.

¹² Those who want to make a good impression outwardly are trying to compel you to be circumcised. They only do this to avoid persecution for the cross of Christ. ¹³ For not even they who are circumcised obey the law; but they want you to be circumcised so that they may boast over your flesh. ¹⁴ But as for me, may I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

¹⁶ who has come, not on the basis of a law about a physical rule but on the basis of the power of an indestructible life. ¹⁷ For it is testified: “You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.” ¹⁸ The former commandment was set aside because it was weak and useless. ¹⁹ (for the Law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God.

² A tabernacle was constructed. In its first room were the lampstand, the table, and the consecrated bread. This was called the Holy Place.

⁹ It is an illustration for the present time, because the gifts and sacrifices being offered were unable to cleanse the conscience of the worshiper. ¹⁰ They consist only in food and drink and special washings—external regulations imposed until the time of reform.

²⁴ But when a righteous man turns away from his righteousness and commits unrighteousness and does according to all the abominations that a wicked man does, will he live? None of his righteous deeds that he has done will be remembered. In his trespass that he has trespassed and in his sin that he has sinned, in them he will die.

² By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.

⁴ It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, ⁵ who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age— ⁶ and then have fallen away—to be restored again to repentance, because they themselves are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting Him to open shame.

³² Remember the early days that you were in the light, when you endured a great conflict in the face of suffering. ³³ Sometimes you were publicly exposed to ridicule and persecution; at other times you were partners with those who were so treated. ³⁴ You sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, knowing that you yourselves had a better and permanent possession. ³⁵ So do not throw away your confidence; it holds a great reward. ³⁶ You need to persevere, so that after you have done God’s will, you will receive what He has promised. ³⁷ For in a very little while, “He who is coming will come and will not delay. ³⁸ But my righteous one will live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul is not well pleased with him." ³⁹ But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and keep their souls.

²⁰ For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled by them, and overcome, they are worse off in the end than at the beginning. ²¹ It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness than to know it and turn their backs on the holy commandment that was committed to them. ²² Of them the proverbs are true: “A dog returns to its vomit,” and, “A sow that is washed goes back to her wallowing in the mud.”

⁸ Watch yourselves, that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you may receive a full reward.

³ So Paul and Barnabas spent considerable time there, speaking boldly for the Lord, who affirmed the message of His grace by enabling them to perform signs and wonders.

⁹ He was listening to Paul as he was speaking. Paul fixed his eyes on him, and, seeing that he had faith to be healed, ¹⁰ In a loud voice Paul called out, “Stand up on your feet!” And the man jumped up and began to walk.

¹¹ God did extraordinary miracles through the hands of Paul, ¹² so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and the diseases and evil spirits left them.

¹⁹ by the power of signs and wonders, and by the power of the Spirit of God. So from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum, I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ.

⁴ I always thank my God for you because of the grace He has given you in Christ Jesus. ⁵ For in Him you have been enriched in every way, in all speech and all knowledge,

¹⁰ to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in various tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.

⁸ will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious?

⁴ The weapons of our warfare are not the weapons of the world. Instead, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.

¹² The true marks of an apostle—signs, wonders, and miracles—were performed among you with great perseverance.

³ since you are demanding proof that Christ is speaking through me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but is powerful among you.

² I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the Law, or by hearing with faith?

⁶ And he believed the LORD; and he reckoned it to him [as] righteousness.

³ For what does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness." ⁴ Now the wages of the worker are not credited as a gift, but as an obligation. ⁵ However, to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness, ⁶ Just so David speaks of the blessedness of the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works,

⁹ Is this blessing only on the circumcised, or also on the uncircumcised? We have been saying that Abraham’s faith was credited as righteousness. ¹⁰ In what context was it credited? Was it after his circumcision, or before? It was not after, but before. ¹¹ And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. So he is the father of all who believe but are not circumcised, in order that righteousness might be credited to them.

²¹ being fully persuaded that God was able to do what He had promised. ²² This is why "it was credited to him as righteousness."

²⁴ But also for us. It shall be credited to those of us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.

³² Why not? Because their pursuit was not by faith, but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone, ³³ just as it is written, "Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone that causes people to stumble, and a rock that causes them to fall, and the one who believes in him will not be put to shame."

¹⁹ that God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting men’s trespasses against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation. ²⁰ So then, we are Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God! ²¹ God made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.

⁹ So those who have faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

²³ And the scripture was fulfilled that says, "And Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him for righteousness," and he was called God's friend.

³ Know that the LORD, he is God. It is he who has made us and we are his. We are his people and the sheep of his pasture.

⁹ Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man too is a son of Abraham.

³¹ So also when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near.

³⁹ "Abraham is our father," they answered. "If you are indeed Abraham's children," said Jesus "do the deeds of Abraham.

¹¹ And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. So he is the father of all who believe but are not circumcised, in order that righteousness might be credited to them. ¹² And he is also the father of the circumcised who not only are circumcised, but who also walk in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had before he was circumcised. ¹³ For not through law was the promise to Abraham, or to his seed, that he should be heir of the world, but through the righteousness of faith. ¹⁴ For if those who live by the Law are heirs, faith is useless and the promise is worthless, ¹⁵ because the Law brings wrath. And where there is no law, there is no transgression. ¹⁶ Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may rest on grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the Law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.

⁷ Nor because they are Abraham’s descendants are they all his children. On the contrary, “Through Isaac your offspring will be reckoned.” ⁸ So it is not the children of the flesh who are God’s children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as offspring.

²⁶ You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. ²⁷ For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. ²⁸ There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. ²⁹ And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise.

²³ Be aware that our brother Timothy has been released. If he arrives soon, I will come with him to see you.

³ And I will bless those who bless you, and those who curse you I will curse. And all families of the earth will be blessed in you."

¹⁸ Abraham will surely become a great and strong nation, and all the nations of the earth will be blessed on account of him.

¹⁸ And by your offspring all the nations of the earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice."

⁴ I will multiply your offspring as the stars of the sky, and will give all these lands to your offspring. In your offspring all the nations of the earth will be blessed,

¹⁴ "Your descendants will be like the dust on the earth. You will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. Every family on earth will be blessed through you and through your descendants.

¹⁰ The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs. To him will the obedience of the peoples be.

⁷ In His days the righteous shall flourish, and plenty of peace, till the moon is not.

¹³ If there is a tenth left in it, that also will in turn be consumed, as a terebinth, and as an oak, whose stump remains when they are cut down; so the holy seed is its stock.”

⁹ I will bring forth offspring from Jacob, and from Judah those who will possess my mountains. My chosen people will inherit them and my servants will live there.

³⁸ Whoever believes in Me, just as the Scripture has said: ‘Streams of living water will flow from within him.’”

⁴² Doesn't the Scripture say that the Messiah is from David's family and from Bethlehem, the village where David lived?"

³⁷ And, as another Scripture says: “They will look on the One they have pierced.”

²⁵ David says about Him: ‘I saw the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. ²⁶ Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices, my body also will live in hope,

³⁵ until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet." '

¹⁵ The words of the prophets are in accord with this, as it is written: ¹⁶ ‘After this I will return and rebuild David’s fallen tent. Its ruins I will rebuild, and I will restore it, ¹⁷ so that the remnant of men may seek the Lord, and all the Gentiles who bear My name, says the Lord who does these things ¹⁸ that have been known for ages.’

²⁸ For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law. ²⁹ Is God the God of Jews only? Is He not the God of Gentiles too? Yes, of Gentiles too, ³⁰ since there is One God, who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through that same faith.

¹⁷ For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: “I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you, and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.”

³⁰ What then will we say? That the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith;

¹⁶ The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. The Scripture does not say, “and to seeds,” meaning many, but “and to your seed,” meaning One, who is Christ.

²² But the scripture has declared all to be prisoners of sin, so that the promise, given on the basis of faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe.

³⁰ But what does the Scripture say? “Expel the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with the free woman’s son.”

¹⁵ From infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. ¹⁶ All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, ¹⁷ so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

² For we also have had the good news preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith.

¹⁵ Then the seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, "The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign for ever and ever."

¹¹ And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. So he is the father of all who believe but are not circumcised, in order that righteousness might be credited to them.

¹⁶ Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may rest on grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the Law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.

²⁶ "See I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse: ²⁷ a blessing if you obey the commands of the LORD your God that I'm giving you today, ²⁸ or a curse if you don't obey the commands of the LORD your God, by turning from the way that I'm commanding you today and following other gods whom you have not known."

²⁶ 'Cursed is he who doesn't uphold the words of this law by doing them.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.'”

²⁰ the LORD will never be willing to forgive him, but rather the anger of the LORD and / His jealousy will burn against that man. Every curse which is written in this book will rest on him. the LORD will blot out his name from under heaven.

²⁸ And I will violate the chiefs of My holy place. And I will give Jacob to doom, and Israel to taunts."

³ and say to them, So says the LORD, the God of Israel, Cursed is the man who does not obey the words of this covenant,

⁴ Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine. The soul who sins, he shall die.

⁴¹ Then He will say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

⁹ To some who trusted in their own righteousness and viewed others with contempt, He also told this parable: ¹⁰ "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. ¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not like other men--swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. ¹² I fast twice a week; I give a tenth of all that I get.' ¹³ But the tax-collector stood at a distance and would not even lift his eyes to heaven, but continued to beat his breast, and say, 'O God, have mercy on me, a sinner!'

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever the Law says, it says to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. ²⁰ Therefore no flesh will be justified in his sight by works of the law, for through the law comes knowledge of sin.

¹⁵ because the Law brings wrath. And where there is no law, there is no transgression.

²³ For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

⁹ Once I was alive apart from the Law; but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died. ¹⁰ So I discovered that the very commandment that was meant to bring life actually brought death. ¹¹ For sin, seizing its opportunity through the commandment, deceived me and through the commandment put me to death. ¹² So then, the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous, and good. ¹³ Did that which is good, then, become death to me? Certainly not! But in order that sin might be exposed as sin, it produced death in me through what was good, so that through the commandment sin might become utterly sinful.

⁷ because the mind of the flesh is hostile to God: It does not submit to God’s Law, nor can it do so.

¹⁶ know that a man is not justified by works of the Law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have believed in Christ Jesus, that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the Law, because by works of the Law no one will be justified.

⁹ But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors. ¹⁰ Whoever keeps the whole Law but stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. ¹¹ For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” If you do not commit adultery, but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker.

⁴⁶ "If they sin against you (for there is not a person who does not sin) and you are angry with them and you give them to an enemy and they take them captive to the land of the enemy far or near,

³ If he desires to contend with Him, He shall not answer him one time out of a thousand.

⁴ Behold, I am slight; how can I reply to You? I place my hand upon my mouth.

⁶ Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes."

¹² Who can discern his errors? Forgive me from hidden errors.

³ If you, LORD, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? ⁴ But with you there is forgiveness, so that you may be feared.

² And do not enter into judgment with your servant, because no one alive is righteous before you.

²⁰ Surely there is not a righteous man on earth, who does good and doesn't sin.

⁵ "Woe to me!" I cried. "I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips (a sinner) and I live among a people of unclean (filthy) lips (speech) (language). My eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty."

⁶ All we like sheep have gone astray; each one has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

⁶ For we have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteousness is like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.

⁴ Behold, his soul is puffed up. It is not upright in him, but the righteous will live by his faith.

³⁸ But my righteous one will live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul is not well pleased with him."

² We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to control his whole body.

⁸ If we say we have not sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. ⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. ¹⁰ If we say we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar, and His word is not in us.

⁹ They sang a new song: "You are worthy to take the scroll and open its seals, because you were slaughtered. With your blood you purchased people for God from every tribe, language, people, and nation.

¹⁴ I said to him, "Sir, you know." And he said to me, "These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. ¹⁵ Therefore, they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them.

⁵ Keep my laws and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them, I am the Lord.

²⁹ You admonished them to return to your law, but they acted arrogantly, and would not listen to your commands. They sinned against your regulations, which if anyone obeys, he will live by them. They turned away, being stubborn and stiff-necked, and they did not listen.

¹¹ and I gave them my statutes and declared unto them my rights, by which the man that does them shall live by them.

¹³ But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness. They did not walk in my statutes and they rejected my ordinances, which if a man keeps, he will live in them. And they greatly profaned my Sabbaths. Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them in the wilderness, to consume them.

¹⁷ “Why do you ask Me about what is good?” Jesus replied, “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”

²⁵ One day an expert in the law stood up to test Him. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” ²⁶ “What is written in the Law?” Jesus replied. “How do you read it?” ²⁷ He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’ and ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” ²⁸ “You have answered correctly,” Jesus said. “Do this and you will live.”

⁴ Now the wages of the worker are not credited as a gift, but as an obligation. ⁵ However, to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness,

¹⁴ For if those who live by the Law are heirs, faith is useless and the promise is worthless,

³⁰ What then will we say? That the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith; ³¹ but Israel, who pursued a law of righteousness, has not attained it. ³² Why not? Because their pursuit was not by faith, but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone,

⁵ For Moses describeth the righteousness which is by the law, The man who doth these things shall live by them. ⁶ But the righteousness that is by faith says: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ (that is, to bring Christ down)

⁶ And if it is by grace, then it is no longer by works. Otherwise, grace would no longer be grace.

²³ "His corpse must not hang all night on the tree (stake). Be sure to bury him the same day for he who is hanged is accursed of God. You do this so that you do not defile your land the LORD your God gives you as an inheritance.

²⁶ Afterward Joshua struck and killed them. He hanged them on five trees: and they hung on the trees until evening. ²⁷ At sunset Joshua commanded that they remove them. They took them down from the trees, and cast them into the cave where they had been hidden. They laid large stones in the mouth of the cave. Even today the stones are there.

²³ When Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his donkey, and arose, and went home, to his city, and set his house in order, and hanged himself; and he died, and was buried in the tomb of his father.

¹⁰ A man who saw this told Joab: "I saw Absalom hanging in a tree."

¹⁴ And Joab said, I will not wait this wait before you. And he took three darts in his hand and struck them into Absalom's heart while he was alive, in the midst of the oak. ¹⁵ And ten young men that bore Joab's armor surrounded Absalom, and struck him, and killed him.

³ David asked the Gibeonites, "What am I to do for you? And how shall I make atonement so that you will bless the LORD's heritage?"

⁹ and he handed them over to the Gibeonites, who hanged them on the mountain in the presence of the LORD. All seven of them died at the same time. They were executed during the first days of harvest, just as the barley began to be gathered in.

¹⁹ because your heart was tender and you have humbled yourself before the LORD, when you heard what I spoke against this place, and against its people (that they should become a waste and a curse, and have torn your clothes and wept before Me), I have heard you, says the LORD.

¹⁰ Then they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. And the king's fury subsided.

¹⁴ So the king ordered it to be done in this way; an edict was issued in Susa, and they hanged the ten sons of Haman.

⁵ You will summon nations you do not know. Nations that do not know you will run to you, because of the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, for he has endowed you with splendor. ⁶ Seek the LORD while he may be found. Call on him while he is near. ⁷ Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.

¹⁰ "As the rain and the snow come down from the sky, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, ¹¹ so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. ¹² "You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace. The mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.

²² The LORD could no longer bear it because of your evil deeds and the repulsive things that you did. So your land has become a ruin and an object of horror and ridicule without an inhabitant, as is the case today.

¹³ For I have sworn by Myself, declares the LORD, that Bozrah shall become a ruin, a reproach, a waste, and a curse. And all its cities shall be wastes forever.

²⁴ Seventy weeks are decreed on your people and on your holy city, to put an end to the transgression, and to make an end to sin, and to atone for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy place.

²⁶ After the sixty-two weeks the Anointed One will be cut off, and will have nothing. The people of the prince who come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. Its end will be with a flood, and war will be even to the end. Desolations are determined.

⁷ “Awake, sword, against my shepherd, and against the man who is close to me,” says the LORD of Armies. “Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered; and I will turn my hand against the little ones.

²⁸ This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.

⁵ So Judas threw the silver into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.

³⁰ The God of our fathers raised Jesuswhom you had killed by hanging him on a tree.

²⁴ and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, ²⁵ God presented Him as an atoning sacrifice through faith in His blood, in order to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance He had passed over the sins committed beforehand. ²⁶ He did this to demonstrate His righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and to justify the one who has faith in Jesus.

²⁵ He was delivered over to death for our trespasses and was raised to life for our justification.

³ For what the Law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful man, as an offering for sin. He thus condemned sin in the flesh, ⁴ in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

³ For I could wish that I myself were cursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers, my own flesh and blood,

²¹ God made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.

¹⁰ All who rely on works of the Law are under a curse. For it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.”

⁵ to redeem those under the Law, that we might receive our adoption as sons.

² and walk in love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

¹⁴ who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, zealous for good deeds.

²⁶ We need such a high priest {— } one who is holy, innocent, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens. ²⁷ Unlike the other high priests, He does not need to offer daily sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people; He sacrificed for sin once for all when He offered up Himself.

¹² He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves, but he entered the holy place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption.

¹⁵ For this reason he is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.

²⁶ Otherwise, He would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But now He has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of Himself.

²⁸ so the Messiah was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people. And he will appear a second time, not to deal with sin, but to bring salvation to those who eagerly wait for him.

⁴ because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. ⁵ Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said: "Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me; ⁶ with burnt offerings and sin offerings You were not pleased. ⁷ Then I said, ‘Here I am, it is written about Me in the scroll: I have come to do Your will, O God.’” ⁸ First He says, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings You did not desire, nor were You pleased with them” (which are offered according to the Law), ⁹ Then He adds, “Here I am, I have come to do Your will.” He takes away the first to establish the second. ¹⁰ And by that will, we have been sanctified through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

¹⁸ For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life you inherited from your forefathers, ¹⁹ but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or spot. ²⁰ He was known before the foundation of the world, but was revealed in the last times for your sake. ²¹ Through Him you believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and glorified Him; and so your faith and hope are in God.

²⁴ He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.

¹⁸ For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body, but made alive in the spirit,

¹ My little children, I write this to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. ² And he is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.

¹⁰ In this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins.

⁵ and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood,

⁸ And all who dwell on the earth wilt worship him, every one whose name hath not been written in the book of life of the Lamb that was slain from the foundation of the world.

² "I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you. I will make your name great. You will be a blessing. ³ And I will bless those who bless you, and those who curse you I will curse. And all families of the earth will be blessed in you."

¹⁵ until the Spirit is poured upon us from on high and the wilderness becomes a fruitful field and the fruitful field be esteemed as a forest.

⁸ "However you, O Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, you descendants of Abraham, my friend,

³ For I will pour water upon the thirsty, and streams on the dry ground. I will pour my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants: ⁴ "'They will spring up like grass in a meadow, like poplar trees by flowing streams.

⁶ yes, he says, It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the preserved of Israel. I will also give you for a light to the Gentiles, that you may be my salvation to the end of the earth.

² "Look to Abraham, your father, and to Sarah, who gave you birth. When I called him he was only one. I blessed him and made him many." ³ the LORD will surely comfort Zion. He will look with compassion on all her ruins. He will make her deserts like Eden and her wastelands like the garden of the LORD. Joy and gladness will be found in her along with thanksgiving and the sound of singing.

¹⁰ the LORD hath made bare his holy arm in the sight of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.

¹⁹ That they may revere—From the West the name of the LORD, And from the Rising of the Sun his glory, For he will come in like a rushing stream, the breath of the LORD, driving it on; ²⁰ »A Savior will come to Zion, to those in Jacob who turn from sin, declares the LORD. ²¹ As for Me, this is My covenant with them, says the LORD: My Spirit who is on you, and My words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, or out of the mouth of your seed, or out of the mouth of your seed's seed, from now on and forever, says the LORD.

³³ "But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days," says the LORD: "I will put my law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people:

⁴⁰ "I will make an eternal promise to them that I will never stop blessing them. I will make them respect me so that they will never turn away from me.

¹⁹ and I will give them another heart and put a new spirit in them; and I will take away the stony heart out of their flesh and give them a heart of flesh

²⁶ I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you: I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and give you a heart of flesh: ²⁷ »I will put my Spirit in you. I will enable you to live by my Laws, and you will obey my rules.

²⁹ And I will not any more hide My face from them, for I have poured out My Spirit on the house of Israel, declares the Sovereign LORD.

²⁸ “It will happen afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; and your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams. Your young men will see visions. ²⁹ And also on the servants and on the handmaids I will pour out My Spirit in those days.

¹⁰ I will pour on the house of David, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplication; and they will look to Me whom they have pierced; and they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for his only son, and will grieve bitterly for him, as one grieves for his firstborn.

¹⁰ But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid! For behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people: ¹¹ Today in the City of David a Savior has been born to you. He is Christ the Lord!

¹³ If ye then, though evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!

⁴⁹ And I will send to you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.

³⁹ He was speaking about the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were later to receive. For the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.

⁴ And when they were gathered together, He commanded them: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift the Father promised, which you have heard Me discuss. ⁵ For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

³³ Exalted, then, to the right hand of God, He has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear.

³⁸ Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. ³⁹ For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, for all whom the Lord our God will call to himself."

²⁵ And you are sons of the prophets and of the covenant God made with your fathers, when He said to Abraham, ‘Through your offspring all the families of the earth will be blessed.’ ²⁶ When God raised up His servant, He sent Him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways.”

¹² Salvation exists in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”

³² We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him."

¹⁵ As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, just as He had come upon us at the beginning. ¹⁶ Then I remembered what the Lord had said, 'John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.'

³ For what does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness." ⁴ Now the wages of the worker are not credited as a gift, but as an obligation. ⁵ However, to the one who does not work, but believes in Him who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness, ⁶ Just so David speaks of the blessedness of the man to whom God credits righteousness apart from works, ⁷ Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven and whose sins are covered; ⁸ Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against him.” ⁹ Is this blessing only on the circumcised, or also on the uncircumcised? We have been saying that Abraham’s faith was credited as righteousness. ¹⁰ In what context was it credited? Was it after his circumcision, or before? It was not after, but before. ¹¹ And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. So he is the father of all who believe but are not circumcised, in order that righteousness might be credited to them. ¹² And he is also the father of the circumcised who not only are circumcised, but who also walk in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had before he was circumcised. ¹³ For not through law was the promise to Abraham, or to his seed, that he should be heir of the world, but through the righteousness of faith. ¹⁴ For if those who live by the Law are heirs, faith is useless and the promise is worthless, ¹⁵ because the Law brings wrath. And where there is no law, there is no transgression. ¹⁶ Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may rest on grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the Law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all. ¹⁷ As it is written, "I have made you a father of many nations." This is in the presence of him whom he believed: God, who gives life to the dead, and calls the things that are not, as though they were.

⁹ You, however, are controlled not by the flesh, but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. ¹⁰ But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet the Spirit gives you life because of righteousness. ¹¹ But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit indwelling in you. ¹² Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation, but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. ¹³ For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. ¹⁴ And all those who are guided by the Spirit of God are sons of God. ¹⁵ For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the spirit of sonship, in which we cry, Abba, Father. ¹⁶ The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children.

²⁶ In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know how we ought to pray, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groans too deep for words. ²⁷ And He who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

⁹ that if you confess with your mouth "Jesus is Lord" and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. ¹⁰ For with your heart you believe and are justified, and with your mouth you confess and are saved. ¹¹ For the Scripture says, "No one who believes in him will be put to shame." ¹² For there is no difference between Jew and Greek: The same Lord is Lord of all, and is rich to all who call on Him, ¹³ for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” ¹⁴ How then can they call on the One they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the One of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone to preach? ¹⁵ And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

¹³ For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free, and we were all given one Spirit to drink.

²² placed His seal on us, and put His Spirit in our hearts as a pledge of what is to come.

⁵ Does God supply you with the Spirit and work miracles among you because you do the actions of the law or because you believe what you heard? ⁶ Thus Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness. ⁷ Understand, then, that those who have faith are the sons of Abraham. ⁸ The Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and foretold the gospel to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.” ⁹ So those who have faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

⁶ Because you are sons, God sent the spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

¹⁸ For through Him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.

²² And in Him you too are being built together into a dwelling place for God in His Spirit.

¹⁶ I pray that out of the riches of His glory, He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being,

³⁰ And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

⁴ who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. ⁵ For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, ⁶ who gave himself as a ransom for allthe testimony given at the proper time.

¹⁹ These are the men who make divisions, natural men, not having the Spirit. ²⁰ But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith, by praying in the Holy Spirit,

⁵ But if our unrighteousness highlights the righteousness of God, what shall we say? That God is unjust to inflict His wrath on us? I am speaking in human terms.

¹⁹ I am speaking in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to escalating wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness.

³² If I fought wild beasts in Ephesus for merely human reasons, what have I gained? If the dead are not raised, "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die."

¹⁷ For a will is in force only when somebody has died, since it never takes effect while the one who made it is living.

⁷ And the LORD appeared to Abram and said, "To your offspring I will give this land." And he built an altar there to the LORD, who had appeared to him.

¹⁵ for all the land which you see, I will give to you, and to your offspring forever. ¹⁶ "I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth. If anyone could count the dust, your offspring could be counted.

⁵ And he brought him outside and said, "Look toward the heavens and count the stars if you are able to count them." And he said to him, "So shall your offspring be."

⁷ "I will establish my covenant as a long lasting covenant between us. It will be for your descendants after you, for the generations to come. I will be your God and the God of your descendants after you. ⁸ "The whole land of Canaan, where you are now a guest (alien) (foreigner) (stranger), I will give a long lasting possession to you and your descendants after you. I will be their God."

¹² God said to Abraham: "Do not be upset about the boy and your slave. Listen to what Sarah says, because through Isaac your descendants will carry on your name.

¹⁷ '"I will certainly bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and the grains of sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of their enemies' cities. ¹⁸ And by your offspring all the nations of the earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed my voice."

³ Stay in this land, and I will be with you and bless you, for to you and to your seed I will give all these lands. And I will cause to rise My oath which I swore to your father Abraham. ⁴ I will multiply your offspring as the stars of the sky, and will give all these lands to your offspring. In your offspring all the nations of the earth will be blessed,

¹³ And he saw the Lord by his side, saying, I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac: I will give to you and to your seed this land on which you are sleeping. ¹⁴ "Your descendants will be like the dust on the earth. You will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. Every family on earth will be blessed through you and through your descendants.

⁵⁵ toward Abraham and his offspring for ever, as he spoke to our fathers.

²⁵ And you are sons of the prophets and of the covenant God made with your fathers, when He said to Abraham, ‘Through your offspring all the families of the earth will be blessed.’

¹³ For not through law was the promise to Abraham, or to his seed, that he should be heir of the world, but through the righteousness of faith.

⁵ so in Christ we who are many are one body, and each member belongs to one another.

¹² The body is a unit, though it is comprised of many parts. And although its parts are many, they all form one body. So it is with Christ.

²⁷ Now you are the body of Christ, and each of you is a member of it.

⁸ The Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and foretold the gospel to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.”

¹⁵ rather, speaking the truth in love, let us in all things grow up into Him who is the Head, Christ; ¹⁶ From Him the whole body is fitted and held together by every supporting ligament. And as each individual part does its work, the body grows and builds itself up in love.

²⁹ Indeed, no one ever hated his own body, but he nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church. ³⁰ for we are members of his body.

³² This mystery is profound, but I am speaking about Christ and the church.

¹⁹ and he loses connection to the head, from whom the whole body, supported and knit together by its joints and ligaments, grows as God causes it to grow.

¹¹ Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, or free, but Christ is all and is in all.

¹³ And he said to Abram, "Know for sure that your descendants will live as foreigners in a land that is not theirs; and they will serve them. And they will oppress them four hundred years.

¹⁸ On that day the LORD made a covenant with Abram. He said: "To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates,

¹⁹ God replied: "Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son! You will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as a long lasting covenant for his descendants after him.

⁴⁰ Now the time that the Israelites lived in Egypt was 430 years. ⁴¹ At the end of 430 years, to the very day, all the tribal divisions of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt.

¹⁹ God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of humankind, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? And has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?

⁸ But if on the day her husband hears of it, he forbids her, then he will nullify her vow that she is under, and the rash promise of her lips that she bound on herself; and the LORD will forgive her.

⁸ "Would you undo my justice? Would you condemn me so that you can be righteous?

¹⁰ the LORD nullifies the counsel of the nations. He frustrates the plans of the peoples.

²⁷ For the LORD Almighty has purposed, and who shall reverse it? And His hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?

¹⁸ "Your covenant with death will be annulled. Your agreement with the grave will not stand when the overflowing scourge passes through. Then you will be trampled down by it.

⁶⁸ Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has visited and redeemed his people; ⁶⁹ He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of His servant David, ⁷⁰ as He spoke through His holy prophets, those of ages past, ⁷¹ salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us, ⁷² to show mercy to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant; ⁷³ the oath that He swore to our father Abraham; ⁷⁴ to be redeemed from the hand of our enemies; and that we should worship before him, without fear, ⁷⁵ in holiness and righteousness before him all our days. ⁷⁶ And you, child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare His ways, ⁷⁷ to give His people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins. ⁷⁸ because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the Dawn will visit us from on high, ⁷⁹ to shine on those who live in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace.”

¹⁷ For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

⁵⁶ Your father Abraham rejoiced that he could see my day, and he saw it, and was glad. ⁵⁷ "You are not yet fifty years old," said the Jews to him, "and you have seen Abraham?" ⁵⁸ “Truly, truly, I tell you,” Jesus declared, “before Abraham was born, I am!”

⁶ God spoke thus, 'His descendants will sojourn in a land not their own, and they will be enslaved and maltreated four hundred years.'

³ What if some did not have faith? Will their lack of faith nullify God’s faithfulness?

²⁵ God presented Him as an atoning sacrifice through faith in His blood, in order to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance He had passed over the sins committed beforehand.

¹³ For not through law was the promise to Abraham, or to his seed, that he should be heir of the world, but through the righteousness of faith. ¹⁴ For if those who live by the Law are heirs, faith is useless and the promise is worthless,

¹² Now I mean this, that each one of you says, "I follow Paul," "I follow Apollos," "I follow Cephas," and, "I follow Christ."

¹⁷ For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospelnot with words of human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

²⁹ What I am saying, brothers, is that the time is short. From now on those who have wives should live as if they had none;

¹⁹ What do I mean then? That a thing offered to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything?

²⁰ For all the promises of God are “Yes” in Christ. And so through Him, our “Amen” is spoken to the glory of God.

⁶ Consider this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.

¹⁵ Brothers, let me use an example from everyday life. Once a person's will has been ratified, no one can cancel it or add conditions to it.

²¹ Is the Law, then, opposed to the promises of God? Not at all! For if a law had been given that could impart life, then righteousness would certainly have come from the Law.

⁴ You who are trying to be justified by the Law have been severed from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.

¹⁶ So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

¹⁷ So I tell you this, and testify to it in the Lord: You must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking.

⁴ I say this so that no one may delude you with fine-sounding arguments.

¹³ When God made His promise to Abraham, since He had no one greater to swear by, He swore by Himself, ¹⁴ He said: "I will surely bless you and give you many descendants." ¹⁵ And so, after waiting patiently, Abraham received what [God] had promised. ¹⁶ Men swear by someone greater than themselves, and their oath serves as a confirmation to end all argument. ¹⁷ So when God wanted to make the unchanging nature of His purpose very clear to the heirs of the promise, He guaranteed it with an oath. ¹⁸ Thus by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be strongly encouraged.

¹⁸ The former commandment was set aside because it was weak and useless.

¹³ All these people died in faith, without having received the things they were promised. However, they saw them and welcomed them from afar. And they acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth.

¹⁷ By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac on the altar. He who had received the promises was ready to offer his one and only son, ¹⁸ even though God had said to him, “Through Isaac your offspring will be reckoned.” ¹⁹ Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and in a sense, he did receive Isaac back from death.

³⁹ These were all commended for their faith, yet they did not receive what was promised. ⁴⁰ God had planned something better for us, so that together with us they would be made perfect.

¹¹ trying to determine the time and setting to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow. ¹² It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they foretold the things now announced by those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.

²⁰ He was known before the foundation of the world, but was revealed in the last times for your sake.

⁶ O seed of Abraham, His servant, O sons of Jacob, His chosen ones. ⁷ He is the LORD our God: his judgments are in all the earth. ⁸ He remembered his covenant forever, the word he commanded to a thousand generations. ⁹ Which covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath to Isaac; ¹⁰ He presented it to Jacob as a decree, to Israel as an everlasting covenant. ¹¹ saying, To you I will give the land of Canaan, the portion of your inheritance; ¹² When they were but a few men in number; yea, very few, and strangers in it.

⁴² For He remembered His holy word and His servant Abraham;

¹⁸ Who is a God like You, who pardons iniquity and passes by the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He does not keep His anger forever, because He delights in mercy. ¹⁹ You will again have compassion on us. You will tread our iniquities under foot. You will throw all our sins into the depths of the sea. ²⁰ You will give truth to Jacob, and mercy to Abraham, as you have sworn to our fathers from the days of old.

⁵⁴ He has helped His servant Israel, remembering to be merciful, ⁵⁵ toward Abraham and his offspring for ever, as he spoke to our fathers.

⁷² to show mercy to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant; ⁷³ the oath that He swore to our father Abraham;

¹⁷ Now if we are children, we are heirs heirs of God and co-heirs with the Messiah if, in fact, we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

²¹ I do not set aside the grace of God. For if righteousness comes through the Law, Christ died for nothing.”

¹² The Law, however, is not based on faith; on the contrary, “The one who does these things will live by them.”

²⁶ You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

¹² Then you will not be sluggish, but will imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised. ¹³ When God made His promise to Abraham, since He had no one greater to swear by, He swore by Himself, ¹⁴ He said: "I will surely bless you and give you many descendants." ¹⁵ And so, after waiting patiently, Abraham received what [God] had promised.

¹⁹ They said to Moses, "Speak with us yourself, and we will listen; but do not let God speak with us, lest we die." ²⁰ And Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. God has come to test you so that his fear will be before you so that you do not sin." ²¹ The people stayed at a distance, and Moses came near to the thick darkness where God was. ²² the LORD commanded Moses to tell the Israelites: »You have seen how I have spoken to you from heaven.

¹ The LORD said to Moses, "Come up to the LORD, you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, and worship at a distance. ² And Moses alone will come near to the LORD, and they will not come near, and the people will not go up with him." ³ Then Moses came and put before the people all the words of the Lord and his laws: and all the people, answering with one voice, said, Whatever the Lord has said we will do. ⁴ Moses wrote down all the LORD’s words. Early the next morning he built an altar at the foot of the mountain. He erected twelve sacred stones for the twelve tribes of Israel. ⁵ He sent young Israelite men to offer up burnt offerings and sacrifice bulls as peace offerings to the LORD. ⁶ And Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and the other half he sprinkled on the altar. ⁷ He took the Book of the Covenant and read it to the people. They said, "All that the LORD has spoken we will do and obey." ⁸ And Moses took the blood and sprinkled it on the people, and he said, "Look, the blood of the covenant that the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words." ⁹ Then went Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu and the seventy elders of Israel up, ¹⁰ and saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something like a pavement made of sapphire, and as clear as the sky. ¹¹ But he did not lay his hand upon the princes of the sons of Israel, and they saw God and ate and drank. ¹² The LORD said to Moses, "Come up to me on the mountain, and stay here, and I will give you the tables of stone with the law and the commands that I have written, that you may teach them."

²⁷ The LORD said to Moses, "Write you these words: for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel." ²⁸ And he was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights. He neither ate bread, nor drank water. And He wrote upon the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments. ²⁹ Now when Moses came down from Mount Sinai, with the two stones in his hand, he was not conscious that his face was shining because of his talk with God. ³⁰ Aaron and all the Israelites looked at Moses and saw his face glowing. They were afraid to come near him. ³¹ And Moses called to them, and Aaron and all the leaders of the community returned to him, and Moses spoke to them. ³² And afterward all the Israelites came near, and he commanded them all that the LORD had spoken with him on Mount Sinai. ³³ When Moses finished speaking with them he put a veil over his face, ³⁴ When Moses went into the LORD's presence to speak with him, he took off the veil until he came out. When he came out and told the Israelites what he had been commanded, ³⁵ they would see that Moses' face was glowing. Moses would put the veil back on until he went in again to speak with the LORD.

³² These are the instructions for any man, who has a discharge or an emission of semen that makes him unclean,

⁸ And what other great nation has for it just rules and regulations just like this whole law that I am setting before you today? ⁹ Only guard yourselves carefully so you won't forget the things that you saw and let them slip from your mind for the rest of your life. Tell them to your children and to your grandchildren.

⁵ I stood at that time as mediator between the LORD and you to declare his message to you, because you were afraid of the fire and would not go up the mountain. He said:

²² "These commands the LORD declared in a loud voice to your entire assembly on the mountain from out of the fire and dark clouds, and nothing more was added. He inscribed them on two tablets of stones and gave them to me. ²³ And after hearing the voice which came out of the dark while the mountain was burning with fire, all the heads of your tribes and your chiefs came to me, ²⁴ and ye said, 'Behold, the LORD our God hath showed us his glory and his greatness, and we have heard his voice out of the fire, and we have seen this day that God may talk with a man and he yet live. ²⁵ Now therefore, why should we die? This great fire will consume us. If we continue to listen to the voice of the LORD our God any longer, we'll die. ²⁶ For what mortal man has heard the voice of the living God speaking out of the fire like we did, and lived? ²⁷ "'They spoke to Moses: 'Moses, go and listen to everything that the LORD our God says. Then tell us whatever the LORD our God tells you. We will listen and obey.' ²⁸ "the LORD heard the words you spoke to me. He told me: 'I have heard what the people said to you. Everything they said was good. ²⁹ Oh that they had such a heart with them to fear me and keep all my commandments always, that it might go well with them and with their children forever. ³⁰ "'Go and tell them to return to their tents, ³¹ But you stay here with me. I will give you all the commands, laws, and rules that you must teach them to obey in the land I will give them to possess. ³² Be careful to do what the LORD your God has commanded you. Never turn to the right or to the left. ³³ Walk in every way that the LORD your God commanded you, so that life may go well for you, and so that you will prolong your days in the land that you will possess.'"

¹³ And the LORD spoke to me saying:I have seen this people, and behold, they are a stiff-necked people. ¹⁴ Let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under heaven: and I will make of thee a nation mightier and greater than they. ¹⁵ So I turned and came down from the mount, and the mount was burning with fire. And the two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands. ¹⁶ »I saw that you had indeed sinned against the LORD your God. You made yourselves an idol, cast in the shape of a calf. You turned aside quickly from the way the LORD had commanded you. ¹⁷ And I took the two tablets and threw them out of my hands and broke them before your eyes. ¹⁸ And I fell down before the LORD, as at the first, forty days and forty nights, -- I ate no bread and drank no water, -- because of all your sin which ye had sinned, in doing what is evil in the eyes of the LORD, to provoke him to anger. ¹⁹ I feared the anger and wrath of the LORD against you, because he was irate enough to destroy you. But the LORD also listened to me at that time. ²⁰ And the LORD was very angry with Aaron, to destroy him, and I also prayed for Aaron at that time.

²⁵ So I fell down before the LORD the forty days and forty nights because the LORD had said He would destroy you. ²⁶ I prayed to the LORD and said Sovereign LORD, don't destroy Your people and Your inheritance that You have redeemed through Your greatness, that You have brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand. ²⁷ "'"Remember your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Do not look at the stubbornness of this people or at their wickedness or their sin. ²⁸ Lest the land from where you brought us out say, Because the LORD was not able to bring them into the land which he promised them, and because he hated them, he has brought them out to slay them in the wilderness. ²⁹ Yet they are your people and your inheritance, which you brought out by your great power and by your outstretched arm."

¹⁵ "the LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your fellow Israelites. Listen to him! ¹⁶ »This is according to all that you asked of the LORD your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly. You said: Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God. Do not let me see this great fire anymore, or I will die. ¹⁷ "the LORD said to me: 'They have spoken well. ¹⁸ I will raise them up a prophet like you from among their brothers; I will put My words in his mouth and he shall speak to them all that I shall command him. ¹⁹ But if someone will not listen to those words that the prophet speaks in my name, I will hold him accountable.

² Then he said, "the LORD came from Sinai, and he dawned upon them from Seir; he shone forth from Mount Paran, and he came with myriads of holy ones, at his right hand a fiery law for them.

²³ So he said he would exterminate them, had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him, to reverse his wrath from destroying them.

¹⁹ He speaks his word to Jacob, his laws and judgments to Israel. ²⁰ He has not done this for just any nation. They do not know his ordinances. Praise the LORD.

³¹ He said to him, 'If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be convinced, not even if one rose from the dead."

⁴⁵ Do not think that I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, in whom you have put your hope. ⁴⁶ If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me. ⁴⁷ But since you do not believe what he wrote, how will you believe what I say?”

²² If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin. Now, however, they have no excuse for their sin.

³⁸ He was in the assembly in the wilderness with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our fathers. And he received living words to pass on to us.

⁵³ you who have received the law through ranks of angels, but have not kept it.

¹³ For it is not merely those who hear the law who are righteous in God's sight. No, it is those who follow the law, who will be justified.

¹ What advantage, then, does the Jew have, or what value is there in circumcision? ² Much in every way. First of all, they have been entrusted with the very words of God.

²⁰ The Law was given so that the trespass would increase; but where sin increased, grace increased all the more, ²¹ so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness, to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

⁷ What shall we say, then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! Indeed, I would not have known what sin was except through the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, "You shall not covet." ⁸ But sin, seizing its opportunity through the commandment, produced in me every kind of covetous desire. For apart from the Law, sin is dead.

²¹ Is the Law, then, opposed to the promises of God? Not at all! For if a law had been given that could impart life, then righteousness would certainly have come from the Law. ²² But the scripture has declared all to be prisoners of sin, so that the promise, given on the basis of faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe. ²³ Before this faith came, we were held in custody under the Law, locked up until faith should be revealed. ²⁴ So the law was our tutor to lead us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. ²⁵ Now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian.

¹ What I am saying is that as long as the heir is a child, he is no different from a slave, although he is the owner of everything. ² He is subject to guardians and trustees until the date set by his father. ³ So also, when we were children, we were enslaved under the basic principles of the world. ⁴ But when the time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law,

⁸ Now we know that the law is good if one uses it correctly, ⁹ We realize that law is not enacted for the righteous, but for the lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinful, for the unholy and profane, for killers of father or mother, for murderers,

² For if the message spoken by angels was binding, and every transgression and disobedience received its just punishment,

⁵ For it is not to angels that He has subjected the world to come, about which we are speaking.

¹ Abram was ninety-nine years old. the LORD appeared to him and said: "I am God Almighty. Walk before me and be blameless. ² "I will establish my covenant between us. I will greatly increase your numbers."

⁴ Hear, Israel: the LORD is our God, the LORD is one.

³³ Neither is there any arbitrator between us, that might lay his hand upon us both.

²⁰ Now Herod had become infuriated with the people of Tyre and Sidon, and they convened before him. Having secured the support of Blastus, the king’s chamberlain, they asked for peace, because their region depended on the king’s country for food.

¹⁷ What I mean is this: The Law that came four hundred thirty years later does not revoke the covenant previously established by God, so as to cancel the promise.

⁵ For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,

⁶ Now, however, Jesus has received a far superior ministry, just as the covenant He mediates is superior and is founded on better promises.

²⁴ to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

¹⁷ Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them, but to fulfill them. ¹⁸ For I tell you truly, until heaven and earth pass away, not a single jot, not a stroke of a pen, will disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. ¹⁹ So then, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do likewise will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. ²⁰ For I tell you that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

⁴ Absolutely not! Let God be true and every man a liar. As it is written: “So that You may be justified in Your words, and prevail in Your judgments.”

⁶ Certainly not! For then how could God judge the world?

²⁰ Therefore no flesh will be justified in his sight by works of the law, for through the law comes knowledge of sin. ²¹ But now the righteousness of God apart from the law has been revealed, being witnessed to by the Law and the Prophets, ²² And this righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no distinction,

³¹ Do we, then, nullify the Law by this faith? By no means! Instead, we uphold the Law.

³¹ but Israel, who pursued a law of righteousness, has not attained it.

³ For, being ignorant of the righteousness that comes from God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. ⁴ For Christ is the end of the law, so that there may be righteousness for every one who believes.

¹⁷ But if, while we seek to be justified in Christ, we ourselves are found to be sinners, does that make Christ a minister of sin? Absolutely not!

¹⁹ For through the law I died to the law, so that I might live to God.

⁶ as to zeal persecuting the church, as to the righteousness of the Law blameless. ⁷ But whatever was gain to me, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. ⁸ More than that, I count all things as loss compared to the surpassing excellence of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ ⁹ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christthe righteousness that comes from God and is by faith,

⁷ By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in godly fear built an ark to save his family. By faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.

¹⁶ Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

¹⁵ that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. ¹⁶ For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. ¹⁷ For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. ¹⁸ Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.

³⁶ Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life. Whoever rejects the Son will not see life. Instead, the wrath of God remains on him.”

²⁴ Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not come under judgment. Indeed, he has crossed over from death to life.

⁴⁰ For it is My Father’s will that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.”

²⁵ Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me will live, even though he dies. ²⁶ And whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?"

⁴⁶ I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in Me should remain in darkness.

³¹ But these are written, that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God: and that believing, you may have life in his name.

³¹ They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, you and your household.”

⁹ What then? Are we any better? Not at all. For we have already made the charge that Jews and Greeks alike are all under sin. ¹⁰ As it is written: “There is no one righteous, not even one; ¹¹ there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. ¹² All have turned away; they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one. ¹³ Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit; the venom of vipers is on their lips; ¹⁴ Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness. ¹⁵ "Their feet are swift to shed blood. ¹⁶ ruin and misery [are] in their ways, ¹⁷ and the way of peace they do not know." ¹⁸ "There is no fear of God before their eyes."

²³ for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

¹² Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, so also death was passed on to all men, because all sinned.

⁹ that if you confess with your mouth "Jesus is Lord" and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

³² For God has bound all men over to disobedience, that he may have mercy upon all.

⁸ The Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and foretold the gospel to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.” ⁹ So those who have faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith. ¹⁰ All who rely on works of the Law are under a curse. For it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.”

²³ Before this faith came, we were held in custody under the Law, locked up until faith should be revealed.

¹ Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, according to the promise of life that is in Christ Jesus,

¹³ When God made His promise to Abraham, since He had no one greater to swear by, He swore by Himself, ¹⁴ He said: "I will surely bless you and give you many descendants." ¹⁵ And so, after waiting patiently, Abraham received what [God] had promised. ¹⁶ Men swear by someone greater than themselves, and their oath serves as a confirmation to end all argument. ¹⁷ So when God wanted to make the unchanging nature of His purpose very clear to the heirs of the promise, He guaranteed it with an oath.

⁴ Through these he has given us his precious and wonderful promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, seeing that you have escaped the corruption that is in the world caused by evil desires.

¹³ But in keeping with God’s promise, we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.

²⁵ And this is what he has promised useternal life.

²³ And this is his commandment: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus the Messiah, and to love one another as he commanded us. ²⁴ And he keeping his commands remains in him, and he in him. And in this we know that he remains in us, by the Spirit he gave us.

¹¹ And this is that testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. ¹² He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. ¹³ I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.

²³ And he turned to his disciples, and said privately: Blessed are the eyes that see what you see. ²⁴ For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.”

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever the Law says, it says to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God.

¹⁴ For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace. ¹⁵ What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law, but under grace? By no means!

²⁰ To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the Law I became like one under the Law (though I myself am not under the Law), to win those under the Law. ²¹ To those without the Law I became like one without the Law (though I am not outside the law of God but am under the law of Christ), to win those without the Law.

¹⁹ Why then was the Law given? It was added because of transgressions, until the arrival of the seed to whom the promise referred. It was administered through angels by a mediator.

¹ What I am saying is that as long as the heir is a child, he is no different from a slave, although he is the owner of everything. ² He is subject to guardians and trustees until the date set by his father. ³ So also, when we were children, we were enslaved under the basic principles of the world. ⁴ But when the time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, ⁵ to redeem those under the Law, that we might receive our adoption as sons.

²¹ Tell me, you who want to be under the Law, do you not understand what the Law says?

¹⁸ But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.

² Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

¹⁷ Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them, but to fulfill them. ¹⁸ For I tell you truly, until heaven and earth pass away, not a single jot, not a stroke of a pen, will disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

³⁸ Therefore let it be known to you, brothers, that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. ³⁹ Through Him everyone who believes is justified from everything you could not be justified from by the Law of Moses.

⁷ What shall we say, then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! Indeed, I would not have known what sin was except through the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, "You shall not covet." ⁸ But sin, seizing its opportunity through the commandment, produced in me every kind of covetous desire. For apart from the Law, sin is dead. ⁹ Once I was alive apart from the Law; but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died.

²⁴ What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? ²⁵ Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself with my mind am enslaved to the law of God, but with my flesh I am enslaved to the law of sin.

⁴ For Christ is the end of the law, so that there may be righteousness for every one who believes.

¹⁵ Even if you have ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel.

²⁵ Now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian.

² He is subject to guardians and trustees until the date set by his father. ³ So also, when we were children, we were enslaved under the basic principles of the world.

¹⁷ which are a shadow of the things which were to come, but the substance is of Christ.

⁸ The Holy Spirit was showing by this that the way into the holy place had not yet been disclosed as long as the outer tabernacle was still standing. ⁹ It is an illustration for the present time, because the gifts and sacrifices being offered were unable to cleanse the conscience of the worshiper. ¹⁰ They consist only in food and drink and special washings—external regulations imposed until the time of reform. ¹¹ But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, he entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation. ¹² He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves, but he entered the holy place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption. ¹³ For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that their bodies are clean, ¹⁴ how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself unblemished to God, purify our consciences from works of death, so that we may serve the living God! ¹⁵ For this reason he is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the transgressions committed under the first covenant. ¹⁶ In the case of a will, it is necessary to establish the death of the one who made it,

¹ The Law is only a shadow of the good things to come, not the realities themselves. It can never, by the same sacrifices offered year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship. ² If it could, would not the offerings have ceased? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all and would no longer feel the guilt of their sins. ³ Instead, those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins, ⁴ because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. ⁵ Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said: "Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me; ⁶ with burnt offerings and sin offerings You were not pleased. ⁷ Then I said, ‘Here I am, it is written about Me in the scroll: I have come to do Your will, O God.’” ⁸ First He says, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings You did not desire, nor were You pleased with them” (which are offered according to the Law), ⁹ Then He adds, “Here I am, I have come to do Your will.” He takes away the first to establish the second. ¹⁰ And by that will, we have been sanctified through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. ¹¹ Day after day every priest stands to minister and to offer again and again the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. ¹² But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, "he sat down at the right hand of God." ¹³ from that time waiting for his enemies to be made his footstool. ¹⁴ Because by one offering he has made complete for ever those who are made holy.

¹⁴ For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.

⁴ Therefore, my brothers, you also died to the Law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit to God.

¹¹ Now if perfection could have been attained through the Levitical priesthood (upon which basis the people received the Law), why was there still a need for another priest to appear—one in the order of Melchizedek and not in the order of Aaron? ¹² For when there is a change of the priesthood, there must also be a change of the law. ¹³ He of whom these things are said belonged to a different tribe, from which no one has ever served at the altar. ¹⁴ For it is evident that our Lord was descended from Judah, and in regard to that tribe Moses said nothing about priests. ¹⁵ And this point is even more clear if another priest like Melchizedek appears,

³ Every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices. So it was necessary for this One also to have something to offer. ⁴ If he were on earth, he would not be a priest, for there are those who offer the gifts according to the Law. ⁵ They serve in a sanctuary that is a copy, a shadow of the heavenly one. This is why Moses was warned when he was about to build the tabernacle: "See to it that you make everything according to the pattern that was shown you on the mountain." ⁶ Now, however, Jesus has received a far superior ministry, just as the covenant He mediates is superior and is founded on better promises. ⁷ Now if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for a second one; ⁸ But when God found fault with the people, He said: “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. ⁹ It will not be like the covenant I made with their fathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, because they did not abide by My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the Lord. ¹⁰ For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after that time, declares the Lord: I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. ¹¹ No longer will each one teach his neighbor or his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest. ¹² "'I will forgive their wickedness and I will remember their sins no more.'" ¹³ In speaking of a "new" covenant, he has made the first one obsolete, and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear.

¹⁵ The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First He says: ¹⁶ “This is the covenant I will make with them after those days, says the Lord. I will put My Laws in their hearts and inscribe them on their minds.” ¹⁷ Then he adds: “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.” ¹⁸ But where there [is] remission of these, [there is] no longer a sacrifice for sin.

¹² But to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God ¹³ children born not of blood, nor of the desire or will of man, but born of God.

¹⁷ Jesus said to her, "Do not touch me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers, and tell them, 'I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'"

¹⁴ And all those who are guided by the Spirit of God are sons of God. ¹⁵ For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the spirit of sonship, in which we cry, Abba, Father. ¹⁶ The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children. ¹⁷ Now if we are children, we are heirs heirs of God and co-heirs with the Messiah if, in fact, we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

¹⁸ "I will be a Father to you, and you will be My sons and daughters, says the LORD Almighty."

⁵ he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of his will,

¹ Be imitators of God, therefore, as beloved children,

¹⁵ so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and perverse generation, in which you shine as lights in the world

¹⁰ In bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting for God, for whom and through whom all things exist, to make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through suffering. ¹¹ For he who makes holy and they who are made holy are all of one. For this cause he is not ashamed to call them brothers, ¹² and say, "I will tell your name to my brothers, In the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise"; ¹³ And again, "I will put my trust in him." And again, "Here am I, and the children God has given me." ¹⁴ Therefore, since the children have flesh and blood, He too shared in their humanity, so that by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of death, that is, the devil, ¹⁵ and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.

¹ Behold what manner of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God. And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him. ² Beloved, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is.

⁷ He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son.

¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my justice was as a robe and a turban.

¹⁰ I will rejoice greatly in the LORD. I will exult in my God for he has clothed me with garments of salvation. He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

¹⁹ Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, ²⁰ and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

¹⁵ He said to them, "Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to all the creation. ¹⁶ Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

²² But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.

¹⁶ For the Holy Spirit had not yet fallen upon any of them; they had simply been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.

³⁶ And as they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch said, "Look, here is water! What prevents me from being baptized?"

³⁸ And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and Philip baptized him.

¹⁸ All at once something like scales fell from Saul's eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized,

¹⁵ And when she and her household had been baptized, she urged us, “If you consider me a believer in the Lord, come and stay at my house.” And she persuaded us.

³¹ They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, you and your household.” ³² Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. ³³ And at that hour of the night he took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his family were baptized.

²² And this righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no distinction,

³ Or don’t you know that all we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? ⁴ We therefore were buried with Him through baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may walk in newness of life.

¹⁴ But clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about gratifying your physical cravings.

² They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea.

²⁴ and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

¹⁰ And you have been made complete in Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority. ¹¹ In Him you were also circumcised by the putting off of the body of the sins of the flesh, not with a circumcision done by hands but with the circumcision of the Christ, ¹² And having been buried with Him in baptism, you were raised with Him through your faith in the power of God, who raised Him from the dead.

¹⁰ and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

²¹ And this water symbolizes the baptism that now saves you—not the removal of dirt from the body, but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

¹⁶ I also have other sheep, that are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice; and there will be one flock, one shepherd.

⁵² and not only for the nation, but also for the scattered children of God, to gather them together into one.

¹¹ I will no longer be in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to You. Holy Father, protect them by Your name, the name You gave Me, so that they may be one as We are one.

²⁰ "I pray not for them alone, but also for those who believe in me through their word, ²¹ that all of them may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I am in You. May they also be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me.

¹⁶ I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, then to the Greek.

⁹ There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil, first for the Jew, then for the Greek; ¹⁰ but glory, honor, and peace for everyone who does good, first for the Jew, then for the Greek.

¹¹ And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. So he is the father of all who believe but are not circumcised, in order that righteousness might be credited to them. ¹² And he is also the father of the circumcised who not only are circumcised, but who also walk in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had before he was circumcised.

²⁴ us whom he also called, not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles?

¹⁴ For the unbelieving husband is sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified through her husband. Otherwise, your children would be unclean, but as it is they are holy.

¹⁹ Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing. Keeping God’s commandments is what matters.

⁶ For in Christ Jesus, neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. All that matters is faith, expressed through love.

¹³ But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ. ¹⁴ For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, ¹⁵ by abolishing in His flesh the law of commandments and decrees. He did this to create in Himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace ¹⁶ and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by which he put to death their enmity. ¹⁷ He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near. ¹⁸ For through Him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit. ¹⁹ So then, you are no longer strangers and aliens, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of God’s household, ²⁰ built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus Himself as the cornerstone. ²¹ in whom the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord; ²² And in Him you too are being built together into a dwelling place for God in His Spirit.

⁵ which was not made known to men in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God’s holy apostles and prophets. ⁶ This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are fellow heirs, fellow members of the body, and fellow partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus. ⁷ I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace, given me through the working of His power. ⁸ Though I am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, ⁹ and to make plain to everyone the administration of the mystery which for ages has been hidden in God who created all things; ¹⁰ His purpose was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms,

⁴ There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called;

¹⁰ So she said to Abraham, Send away that woman and her son: for the son of that woman is not to have a part in the heritage with my son Isaac. ¹¹ And the matter displeased Abraham very much on account of his son. ¹² God said to Abraham: "Do not be upset about the boy and your slave. Listen to what Sarah says, because through Isaac your descendants will carry on your name.

¹² And he is also the father of the circumcised who not only are circumcised, but who also walk in the footsteps of the faith that our father Abraham had before he was circumcised.

¹⁶ Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may rest on grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham’s offspring—not only to those who are of the Law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all. ¹⁷ As it is written, "I have made you a father of many nations." This is in the presence of him whom he believed: God, who gives life to the dead, and calls the things that are not, as though they were. ¹⁸ Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as he had been told, “So shall your offspring be.” ¹⁹ Without weakening in his faith, he acknowledged the decrepitness of his body (since he was about a hundred years old) and the lifelessness of Sarah’s womb. ²⁰ Yet he did not waver through disbelief in the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, ²¹ being fully persuaded that God was able to do what He had promised.

²² Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Kephas, or the world, or life, or death, or the present, or the future-all things are yours! ²³ And you are of Christ, and Christ is of God.

²³ But each in his own turn: Christ the firstfruits; then at His coming, those who belong to Him.

⁷ You are looking at outward appearances. If anyone is confident that he belongs to Christ, he should remind himself that we belong to Christ just as much as he does.

⁷ Understand, then, that those who have faith are the sons of Abraham.

²⁸ There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

⁷ So you are no longer slaves but a son. And as a son God has made you an heir.

²² For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave woman and the other by the free woman. ²³ His son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, but his son by the free woman was born because of the promise. ²⁴ These things serve as illustrations, for the women represent two covenants. One covenant is from Mount Sinai and bears children into slavery: This is Hagar. ²⁵ Now Hagar stands for Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present-day Jerusalem, because she is in slavery with her children. ²⁶ But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother. ²⁷ For it is written: “Rejoice, O barren woman, who bears no children; break forth and cry aloud, you who have never travailed; because more are the children of the desolate woman, than of her who has a husband.” ²⁸ Now you, brothers, like Isaac, are children of promise. ²⁹ Yet at that time the child born in the course of nature persecuted the child born by the power of the Spirit; and it is the same now. ³⁰ But what does the Scripture say? “Expel the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with the free woman’s son.” ³¹ Therefore, brothers, we are not children of the slave woman, but of the free woman.

²⁴ Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

⁶ This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are fellow heirs, fellow members of the body, and fellow partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus. ⁷ so that having been justified by His grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

¹⁴ Are not the angels ministering spirits, sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?

¹⁷ So when God wanted to make the unchanging nature of His purpose very clear to the heirs of the promise, He guaranteed it with an oath.

¹⁸ even though God had said to him, “Through Isaac your offspring will be reckoned.”

⁵ Listen, my dearly loved brothers; did not God choose those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be wealthy in faith and to inherit the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?
