¹⁸ And the king gave a great banquet, Esther's banquet, for all his officials and servants. And he granted a tax amnesty to the provinces and he gave gifts with royal liberality.

²² And Laban got together all the men of the place and gave a feast.

And Samson made a feast there, for so the young men used to do. ¹¹ When they saw him, they brought thirty companions to be with him. ¹² Samson said to them, Let me tell you a riddle now. If you can give me the answer within the seven days of the feast, then I will give you thirty linen garments and thirty changes of clothing. ¹³ "If you cannot tell me the answer you must give me thirty pieces of fine linen and thirty sets of fine clothes." "Tell us the riddle," they said. ¹⁴ So he said to them: From the eater came something edible; from the strong something sweet. For three days they couldn't solve the riddle. ¹⁵ On the fourth day they said to Samson's wife, Entice your husband to tell us the riddle, or we will burn you and your father's house with fire. Have you called us here to mock us? ¹⁶ Samson's wife wept before him and said, You must hate me, and don't love me. You have given a riddle to my people but you haven't told it me. He said to her, I haven't even told it to my father or my mother; why should I tell you? ¹⁷ She wept before him the seven days, while their feast lasted; and on the seventh day, he told her, because she pressed him severely; and she told the riddle to the children of her people.

⁸ Ask your young men and they will tell you. Therefore let my young men find grace in your eyes, for we come at a good time. Please give whatever you can to your servants and to your son David'.

¹¹ And the Levites quieted all the people, saying, Be still! for the day is holy; neither be grieved.

³ In the third year of his reign, he gave a banquet for all his officials and ministers, and the military leaders of Persia and Media, the nobles, and the provincial officials were present. ⁴ And after this, after he had shewn to them the wealth of his kingdom, and the abundant glory of his wealth during a hundred and eighty days, ⁵ When those days were over, the king held a seven-day banquet in the courtyard of the garden of his palace for all the people who were present in Susa the capital, from the greatest to the least important.
