⁴ I made me great works, I built me houses, and planted vineyards,

⁴ Then they said: "Let us build ourselves a city, with a lofty tower that reaches into space, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth."

¹² Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you have built beautiful houses and lived in them, ¹³ and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold is multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied; ¹⁴ then your heart might be lifted up, and you forget the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage;

¹⁸ Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself the pillar, which is in the king's dale; for he said, "I have no son to keep my name in memory." He called the pillar after his own name; and it is called Absalom's monument, to this day.

¹ Then was Solomon thirteen years building a house for himself. ² and he builds the house of the forest of Lebanon, a hundred cubits long and fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high; on four rows of cedar pillars with cedar beams on the pillars; ³ And it was covered with cedar above the beams, that lay on forty-five pillars, fifteen in a row. ⁴ Set one against another, ⁵ All the doorways and doorposts had rectangular frames, with the doorways facing each other in three tiers. ⁶ The hall of pillars he made fifty cubits in its length and thirty cubits in its width, and a porch was in front of them, with pillars and an overhang in front of them. ⁷ He constructed the Judgment Hall for the throneroom where he would be ruling, paneling it with cedar from floor to ceiling. ⁸ As to his house where he lived, the other court was within the porch, as this work was. Solomon also made a house for Pharaoh's daughter whom he had taken, like this porch. ⁹ From the foundation to the roof, all these buildings, including the large courtyard, were built with high-grade stone blocks. The stone blocks were cut to size and trimmed with saws on their inner and outer faces. ¹⁰ And the foundations were of costly stones, great stones of ten cubits or eight cubits. ¹¹ Overhead were highly priced stones cut to measure, and cedar-wood. ¹² The great court around had three courses of cut stone, and a course of cedar beams; like as the inner court of the house of the LORD, and the porch of the house.

¹ Solomon finished building the LORD’s Temple, the royal palace, and everything else he wanted to build.

¹⁹ The throne had six steps, and the top of the throne was round behind; and stays were on either side on the place of the seat, and two lions stood beside the stays; ²⁰ Twelve lions stood there on the one side and on the other on the six steps. Nothing like it was made in any kingdom.

¹⁹ "There is a treaty between me and you, between my father and your father. Look, I have sent to you a present of silver and gold. Go, break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me."

²⁷ Shimei of Ramah was over the vineyards. Zabdi the Shiphmite was over the increase of the vineyards for the wine cellars.

¹ Now after the twenty years in which Solomon built the house of the Lord, and his own house, ² Solomon also built the cities that Huram had given to him, and he settled the Israelites in them. ³ Solomon attacked Hamath Zobah and conquered it. ⁴ And he built Tadmor in the wilderness, and all the store cities that he built in Hamath. ⁵ Also he built Upper Beth Horon, and Lower Beth Horon, fortified cities, with walls, gates, and bars; ⁶ He also rebuilt Baalath and all the storage cities that he owned. He built all the cities for his chariots, all the cities for his warhorses, and whatever else he wanted to build in Jerusalem, Lebanon, or the entire territory that he governed.

¹¹ Solomon brought up the daughter of Pharaoh out of the City of David to the house that he had built for her; for he said, "My wife shall not dwell in the house of David king of Israel, because the places where the ark of the LORD has come are holy."

¹⁰ And he built towers in the desert and hewed many cisterns, for he had much livestock, both in the Shephelah and on the plain, along with farmers and vinedressers in the hills and in the fertile lands, for he loved the soil.

¹¹ Their tombs are their homes forever, and their dwelling places to all generations. They name their lands after themselves.

¹⁴ My beloved is to me a cluster of henna blossoms from the vineyards of En Gedi.

¹² Let us get up early to the vineyards; let us see if the vine has budded, whether the grape blossoms have opened, and the pomegranates are in bloom: there will I give you my loves.

¹¹ Solomon had a vineyard in Baal Hamon; he leased his vineyard to keepers; everyone was to bring for its fruit a thousand pieces of silver. ¹² My own "vineyard" belongs to me; the "thousand" are for you, O Solomon, and "two hundred" for those who tend its fruit.

¹ Let me sing to my loved one a song of my beloved concerning his vineyard: My loved one had a vineyard on a fertile hill.

³⁰ The king spoke: "Is this not great Babylon, which I have built for the royal dwelling-place, by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?"
