¹² Then Solomon said, "The LORD has said that he would dwell in the thick cloud. ¹³ I have certainly built a lofty house for you, a place for you to live forever." ¹⁴ King Solomon turned to face the people standing there. He asked God's blessing on them. ¹⁵ And he said, "Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which hath fulfilled with his hand, that he spake with his mouth unto David my father, saying, ¹⁶ 'From the day I brought my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city among any of the tribes of Israel, to build a house, that my name might be there: But I have chosen David to be ruler over my people Israel.' ¹⁷ "My father David wanted to build a temple for the name of the LORD God of Israel. ¹⁸ And the LORD said to my father David, Because it was in your heart to build a house to My name, you did well that it was in your heart. ¹⁹ Nevertheless, you are not to build the temple, but your son who will be born to you shall build a temple for my name.' ²⁰ the LORD has carried out his promise which he had made; I have risen in place of David my father, and I sit on the throne of Israel as the LORD promised, and I have built the house for the name of the LORD the God of Israel. ²¹ I have provided a place there for the ark, in which is the covenant which the LORD made with our ancestors when He brought them out of the land of Egypt."
