¹ Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people. They said: "Keep all the commandments that I command you today. ² On the day you cross over the Jordan River to the land that the LORD your God is about to give you, set up large stones and coat them with plaster. ³ and write on them all the words of the Law. When you cross over to enter the land the LORD your God gives you, a land flowing with milk and honey, as the LORD, the God of your fathers, promised you. ⁴ "When you have crossed the Jordan River, set up these stones about which I'm commanding you today on Mount Ebal, and coat them with plaster. ⁵ "Build an altar there to the LORD your God. Build the altar of stones. Do not use an iron tool on them. ⁶ "Build the altar of the LORD your God of uncut stones. Offer on it burnt offerings to the LORD your God ⁷ and sacrifice peace offerings and eat there, and rejoice before the LORD your God. ⁸ And you shall write all the words of this Law very plainly on the stones. ⁹ Then Moses and the priests, the Levites, said to all Israel, Be quiet and give ear, O Israel; today you have become the people of the Lord your God. ¹⁰ "Obey the LORD your God, and do his commandments and his statutes which I command you today." ¹¹ That same day Moses said to the people, ¹² "When you cross the Jordan, these will stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin. ¹³ And these shall stand upon Mount Ebal to pronounce the curse: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali. ¹⁴ "The Levites will answer all the men of Israel with a loud voice: ¹⁵ Cursed is the man who makes any image of wood or stone or metal, disgusting to the Lord, the work of man's hands, and puts it up in secret. And let all the people say, So be it. ¹⁶ Cursed is he who dishonors his father or his mother! And all the people shall say, Amen! ¹⁷ "'Cursed is he who moves his neighbor's boundary mark. All the people will say: Amen. ¹⁸ 'Cursed is he who leads the blind astray on the road.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.' ¹⁹ 'Cursed is he who withholds justice from the foreigner, fatherless, and widow.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.' ²⁰ 'Cursed is he who lies with his father's wife, because he dishonors his father's bed.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.' ²¹ 'Cursed is the one who has sexual relations with any animal. "Then all the people will respond by saying, 'Amen!' ²² 'Cursed be the one who lies with his sister, the daughter of his father or the daughter of his mother.' And all the people shall say, 'Amen.' ²³ Cursed is he who lies with his mother-in-law! And all the people shall say, Amen! ²⁴ Cursed is he who strikes his neighbor secretly! And all the people shall say, Amen! ²⁵ 'Cursed is he who takes a bribe to kill an innocent person.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.' ²⁶ 'Cursed is he who doesn't uphold the words of this law by doing them.' All the people shall say, 'Amen.'”

¹ And now, O Israel, listen to the statutes and to the ordinances, which I teach you, to do them, that you may live and go in and possess the land which the LORD, the God of your fathers, gives you. ² You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, to keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you. ³ "You saw with your own eyes what he did in Baal Peor. The LORD your God exterminated from among you every man who followed Baal of Peor.

³² Be careful to obey all the statutes and ordinances that I'm placing before you today."

¹⁶ Today the LORD your God commands you to do these statutes and ordinances. You shall take heed to do them with all your heart, and with all your soul.

²⁸ But He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”

¹⁴ You are my friends, if you do what I command you.

¹ Now then, brothers, you learned from us how you ought to live and to please God, as in fact you are doing. We ask and encourage you in the Lord to do so even more. ² For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.

¹⁰ Whoever keeps the whole Law but stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.

¹ "These are the commands, decrees and laws the LORD your God commanded me to teach you. Obey them after you enter the land and take possession of it.

¹ Hear, Israel! Thou art now about to cross the Jordan, to go in to possess nations much greater and stronger than you, large cities, which are walled up to the sky,

³¹ "You are about to cross the Jordan to go in to possess the land the LORD your God is giving you. You must possess it and live in it,

¹ "And then when you come to the land that the LORD your God is giving to you as an inheritance, and you take possession of it and you settle in it,

³ and write on them all the words of the Law. When you cross over to enter the land the LORD your God gives you, a land flowing with milk and honey, as the LORD, the God of your fathers, promised you.

¹¹ "Pass through the midst of the camp and command the people: 'Prepare your provisions; ⌊in⌋ three days you are to cross the Jordan to go possess the land that the LORD your God is giving you to possess.'"

¹ After all the nation finished crossing the Jordan, the LORD said to Joshua,

⁵ And Joshua said to them, "Cross over before the ark of the LORD your God to the middle of the Jordan, and each one of you lift up a stone on your shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the Israelites, ⁶ Let this serve as a sign among you, so that when your children ask in times to come, 'What do these stones mean to you,' ⁷ then you shall tell them, 'Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD. When it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones shall be for a memorial to the children of Israel forever.'" ⁸ Thus the Israelites did as Joshua commanded. They took twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan as the LORD told Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the Israelites, and they carried them over with them to the camp, and they put them there. ⁹ Joshua set up twelve stones in the middle of the Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests who bore the ark of the covenant stood; and they are there to this day. ¹⁰ The priests carrying the ark remained standing in the middle of the Jordan until everything that Yahweh commanded Joshua to tell the people was finished, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua. And the people hastily crossed over. ¹¹ And it happened, when the people had finished crossing over, the ark of the LORD and the priests crossed over before the people. ¹² The children of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh crossed over armed before the Israelites, as Moses told them. ¹³ About forty thousand armed for fighting crossed over before the presence of the LORD to the plains of Jericho for battle. ¹⁴ In that day the LORD made Joshua great in the sight of all Israel. And they feared him all the days of his life, even as they feared Moses. ¹⁵ Then the Lord said to Joshua, ¹⁶ "Command the priests carrying the ark of the testimony to come up from the Jordan." ¹⁷ So Joshua commanded the priests, saying,—Come ye up out of the Jordan. ¹⁸ And when they that carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord, were come up, and began to tread on the dry ground, the waters returned into their channel, and ran as they were wont before. ¹⁹ So on the tenth day of the first month the people came up out of Jordan, and put up their tents in Gilgal, on the east side of Jericho. ²⁰ and Joshua set up at Galgala, the twelve stones which he had taken out of the Jordan, ²¹ He spoke to the children of israel: »when your children will ask their fathers in time to come, what these stones mean? ²² Tell your children that Israel crossed that Jordan on dry ground, ²³ For the LORD your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you, until you had crossed, just as the LORD your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up before us until we had crossed over, ²⁴ so that all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD is mighty, and so that you might fear the LORD your God forever.

³¹ as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses: an altar of uncut stones, on which no one had lifted up any iron. They offered burnt offerings on it to the LORD and sacrificed peace offerings.

¹⁹ and I will give them another heart and put a new spirit in them; and I will take away the stony heart out of their flesh and give them a heart of flesh

²⁶ I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you: I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and give you a heart of flesh:

²⁴ But I have said to you, You shall surely possess their land; and, I, I am giving it to you to possess it, a land flowing with milk and honey; I am the LORD your God, who has set you apart from the nations.

²⁷ And they told him, "We came to the land that you sent us, and it is flowing of milk and honey; this is its fruit.

⁸ If the LORD delight in us, he will bring us into this land, and give it us, a land that flows with milk and honey;

⁸ Tie them as reminders on your forearm, bind them on your forehead,

⁹ "'He brought us to this place and gave us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey.

⁶ For forty years the Israelites traveled in the wilderness until all the nation, the warriors that left Egypt, perished, because they did not listen to the voice of the LORD. To them the LORD swore that they would not see the land that he swore to their ancestors to give to us, a land flowing with milk and honey.

³² And Joshua wrote upon the stones a copy of the law, the law of Moses, before the children of Israel.

⁵ that I may establish the oath which I swore to your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey," as at this day.'" Then I answered, and said, "Amen, LORD."

³¹ "The time is coming," proclaims the LORD, "when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. ³² It won't be like the covenant I made with their ancestors on the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt. They broke my covenant, although I was a husband to them," declares the LORD. ³³ "But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days," says the LORD: "I will put my law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people:

²² and You gave them this land, which You swore to their fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey;

² You yourselves are our letter, inscribed on our hearts, known and read by everyone. ³ It is clear that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.

⁶ Now, however, Jesus has received a far superior ministry, just as the covenant He mediates is superior and is founded on better promises. ⁷ Now if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for a second one; ⁸ But when God found fault with the people, He said: “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. ⁹ It will not be like the covenant I made with their fathers when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, because they did not abide by My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the Lord. ¹⁰ For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after that time, declares the Lord: I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.

¹⁶ “This is the covenant I will make with them after those days, says the Lord. I will put My Laws in their hearts and inscribe them on their minds.”

²⁹ "When the LORD your God brings you into the land you are about to possess, you will offer blessings on Mount Gerizim and cursing on Mount Ebal. ³⁰ "Are they not across the Jordan toward the setting sun? Are they in the land of the Canaanites who live in the Arabah, opposite Gilgal, beside the oaks (big trees) of Moreh?

³⁰ Then Joshua built an altar on Mount Ebal for the LORD the God of Israel, ³¹ as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses: an altar of uncut stones, on which no one had lifted up any iron. They offered burnt offerings on it to the LORD and sacrificed peace offerings. ³² And Joshua wrote upon the stones a copy of the law, the law of Moses, before the children of Israel. ³³ All Israel, with their elders, officers, and judges, stood on both sides of the ark before the Levitical priests, who carried the ark of the LORD's covenant, the foreigner as well as the native; half of them in front of Mount Gerizim, and half of them in front of Mount Ebal, as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded at the first, that they should bless the people of Israel.

²⁵ If you make me an altar of stone, you shall not build it of cut stones; for if you lift up your tool on it, you have polluted it.

⁴ Moses wrote down all the LORD’s words. Early the next morning he built an altar at the foot of the mountain. He erected twelve sacred stones for the twelve tribes of Israel.

³⁰ Then Joshua built an altar on Mount Ebal for the LORD the God of Israel, ³¹ as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses: an altar of uncut stones, on which no one had lifted up any iron. They offered burnt offerings on it to the LORD and sacrificed peace offerings.

³¹ Elijah took twelve stones, one for each of the tribes of Jacob's descendants, to whom the message from the LORD had come that "Israel shall be your name." ³² And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the LORD. And he made a trench around the altar, large enough to contain two seahs of seed.

¹ the LORD called to Moses, and spoke to him from the Tent of Meeting, saying, ² »Tell the Israelites: ‘When you bring an offering to the LORD, bring your offering of animals from the herd or the flock. ³ “'If his offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he shall offer a male without defect. He shall offer it at the door of the Tent of Meeting, that he may be accepted before the LORD. ⁴ " 'He must lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering and it will be accepted for him in order to make atonement for him. ⁵ He must slaughter the young bull before the LORD, then Aaron's sons, the priests, will present the blood and sprinkle the blood all around the altar that is at the door of the tent of assembly. ⁶ He shall skin the burnt offering, and cut it into pieces. ⁷ The sons of Aaron the priest will put fire on the altar and arrange the wood on the fire. ⁸ Then Aaron's sons, the priests, will arrange the pieces of meat, the head, and the suet on the wood that is on the fire that is on the altar. ⁹ but he shall wash its innards and its legs with water. The priest shall burn all of it on the altar, for a burnt offering, an offering made by fire, of a pleasant aroma to the LORD. ¹⁰ And if the offering be of the flocks, a holocaust of sheep or of goats, he shall offer a male without blemish. ¹¹ He must slaughter it on the north side of the altar before the LORD; then Aaron's sons, the priests, will sprinkle its blood all around the altar. ¹² then they shall cut it in quarters and the priests shall lay these with the head and the suet on the wood which is on the fire on the altar; ¹³ But he shall wash the inwards and the legs with water: and the priest shall bring it all, and burn it on the altar: it is a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet smell to the LORD. ¹⁴ "'If his offering to the LORD is a burnt offering of birds, then he shall offer his offering of turtledoves, or of young pigeons. ¹⁵ The priest shall bring it to the altar, and wring off its head, and burn it on the altar; and its blood shall be drained out on the side of the altar; ¹⁶ He must remove its crop with its plumage and throw it to the east beside the altar on the place of the fatty ashes. ¹⁷ He shall tear it by its wings, but shall not divide it apart. The priest shall burn it on the altar, on the wood that is on the fire. It is a burnt offering, an offering made by fire, of a pleasant aroma to the LORD.

² and walk in love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

¹ "'If his offering is a sacrifice of peace offerings; if he offers it from the herd, whether male or female, he shall offer it without blemish before the LORD. ² And he shall lay his hand on the head of his offering, and slaughter it at the entrance of the tent of meeting; and Aaron`s sons, the priests, shall sprinkle the blood on the altar round about. <sup>3</sup> And they shall offer of the peace offering, to be a sacrifice unto the LORD: the fat that covereth the inwards and all the fat that is upon the inwards; <sup>4</sup> and the two kidneys with the fat that lieth upon the loins; and the caul that is on the liver, they shall take away with the kidneys. <sup>5</sup> Aaron's sons shall burn it on the altar on the burnt offering, which is on the wood that is on the fire: it is an offering made by fire, of a pleasant aroma to the LORD. <sup>6</sup> " 'But if his offering for a sacrifice of fellowship offering for the LORD is from the flock, he must bring a male or a female without defect. <sup>7</sup> If he offer a lamb, he shall bring it before the LORD, <sup>8</sup> and shall lay his hand on the head of his offering, and slaughter it before the tent of meeting; and Aaron`s sons shall sprinkle the blood thereof upon the altar round about. ⁹ "'Take the fat from the fellowship offering and offer it by fire to the LORD. Remove all the fat from the tail and the fat that covers the internal organs. ¹⁰ and the two kidneys with the suet on them and on the loin and the lobe of the liver with the kidneys ¹¹ "'The priest must burn the offering on the altar. It is food, an offering by fire to the LORD. ¹² "'If his offering is a goat, then he shall offer it before the LORD: ¹³ He shall lay his hand on its head, and kill it before the Tent of Meeting; and the sons of Aaron shall sprinkle its blood around on the altar. ¹⁴ And he shall offer of it a burnt-offering to the Lord, even the fat that covers the belly, and all the fat that is on the belly. ¹⁵ "'Also the two kidneys with the fat that is on them, which is on the loins, and the lobe of the liver, which he will remove with the kidneys. ¹⁶ The priest shall burn them on the altar: it is the food of the offering made by fire, for a pleasant aroma; all the fat is the LORD's. ¹⁷ This is a lasting statute for your generations in all your dwellings: you must not eat any fat or any blood.'"

¹¹ "'These are the instructions for the fellowship offering that you must bring to the LORD. ¹² If he offer to give thanks, he shall bring unto his thank offering: sweet cakes mingled with oil and sweet wafers anointed with oil, and cakes mingled with oil of fine flour fried, ¹³ He shall offer his offering with the sacrifice of his peace offerings for thanksgiving with cakes of leavened bread. ¹⁴ "'He will present one of every offering as a contribution to the LORD. It will belong to the priest who sprinkles the blood of the peace offerings. ¹⁵ The flesh of the sacrifice of his peace offerings for thanksgiving shall be eaten on the day of his offering. He shall not leave any of it until the morning. ¹⁶ "'If the sacrifice of his offering is a votive or a freewill offering, it shall be eaten on the day that he offers his sacrifice as well as on the next day. ¹⁷ And what is left of the flesh of the sacrifice till the third day shall be burned with fire.

⁷ and there ye shall eat before the LORD your God, and ye and your households shall rejoice in every work of your hands in which the LORD thy God has blessed thee.

¹² And you shall rejoice before the LORD your God; you, your sons, your daughters, your menservants, your female servants, and the Levite that is within your gates (because he has no part nor inheritance with you).

¹¹ And thou shall rejoice before LORD thy God, thou, and thy son, and thy daughter, and thy man-servant, and thy maid-servant, and the Levite who is within thy gates, and the sojourner, and the fatherless, and the widow, who are in th

¹⁴ You shall rejoice in your feast, you, your son, your daughter, your male servant, your female servant, the Levite, the foreigner, the fatherless, and the widow who are within your gates.

¹⁰ Now, look I brought the first produce of the land that you, LORD, have given me. Then set it before the LORD your God and worship him. ¹¹ »You, the Levite and the alien among you will rejoice in all the good the LORD your God has given you and your household.

²³ Then the whole assembly decided to celebrate the festival for seven more days. So they joyfully celebrated for seven more days. ²⁴ for Hezekiah the king of Judah had provided one thousand bulls and seven thousand sheep for the assembly, and the princes provided one thousand bulls and ten thousand sheep for the assembly. And many priests consecrated themselves. ²⁵ Everyone in the assembly of Judah rejoiced, as did the priests, the Levites, and the people who gathered together from throughout Israel, including whose who came from the land of Israel and those who lived in Judah. ²⁶ So there was great joy in Jerusalem; for since the time of Solomon the son of David king of Israel there was nothing like this in Jerusalem. ²⁷ And the priests and the Levites arose and blessed the people, and their voice was heard, and their prayer went up unto his holy dwelling place heaven.

¹⁰ Then he said unto them, Go, eat the fat, and drink sweet wine, and send portions unto those who have nothing prepared; for this day is holy unto our Lord, and not sad; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.

¹ Shout for joy to the LORD, all you lands. 2 Worship the LORD with gladness; come before His face with joyful singing.

³ With joy (gladness) you will draw water from the wells of salvation.

³ to give for those in mourning in Zion, to give them a head wrap instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, a garment of praise instead of a faint spirit. And they will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, to show his glory.

¹⁰ I will rejoice greatly in the LORD. I will exult in my God for he has clothed me with garments of salvation. He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

¹⁸ yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in God my Savior.

³⁶ As to the message which he sent to the children of Israel telling the good news of peace through Jesus Christ — who is Lord of all —

¹ Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

¹⁰ For if, when we were enemies of God, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life!

¹⁶ and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by which he put to death their enmity. ¹⁷ He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near.

³ For it is we who are the circumcision, we who worship by the Spirit of God, who glory in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh—

⁴ Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

²⁰ and through him, to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through the blood of his cross.

²⁰ Now may the God of peace—who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep— ²¹ equip you with every good thing to do His will. And may He accomplish in us what is pleasing in His sight through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

² The LORD answered me, "Write the vision, and make it plain on tablets, that he who runs may read it.

²⁵ "I have said these things to you in figurative language. The time is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figurative language, but will tell you plainly about the Father.

¹² Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold.

¹⁶ Today the LORD your God commands you to do these statutes and ordinances. You shall take heed to do them with all your heart, and with all your soul. ¹⁷ You have declared today that the LORD is your God, and that you would walk in his ways, keep his statutes, his commandments, and his ordinances, and listen to his voice. ¹⁸ And the LORD has declared you today to be for him as a people, a treasured possession, as he promised to you, and that you are to observe all his commandments,

¹⁷ But thanks be to God that, though you once were slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were committed. ¹⁸ You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.

²² But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the fruit you reap leads to holiness, and the outcome is eternal life.

⁹ Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who submit to or perform homosexual acts, ¹⁰ nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. ¹¹ And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

⁸ For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light, ⁹ for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth.

¹⁰ Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. ¹¹ Dear friends, I urge you as foreigners and temporary residents to abstain from fleshly desires which wage war against your soul,

² Speak to the assembly of the sons of Israel, and say to them, Ye shall be holy, for I the LORD your God am holy.

¹² And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, and to love Him, and to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, ¹³ and observe his commands and statutes that I'm commanding you today for your own good.

¹ Love the LORD thy God and keep his observances, his ordinances, his laws and his commandments always.

⁷ Your very own eyes saw all the great things that the LORD did." ⁸ "Keep all the commands that I'm giving you today, so you can be strong enough to enter and possess the land that you are crossing over to inherit

⁵ Indeed all the nations may walk in the name of their gods; but we will walk in the name of the LORD our God for ever and ever.

⁸ He has showed you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?

⁴⁸ Be perfect, therefore, as your Heavenly Father is perfect.

¹⁷ So I tell you this, and testify to it in the Lord: You must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their thinking. ¹⁸ They are darkened in their understanding and alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardness of their hearts. ¹⁹ Having lost all sense of shame, they have given themselves over to sensuality for the practice of every kind of impurity, with a craving for more. ²⁰ But you did not learn Christ that way; ²¹ Surely you heard of Him and were taught in Him in keeping with the truth that is in Jesus. ²² You were taught, with regard to your former manner of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful lusts; ²³ And be made new in the spirit of your mind, ²⁴ and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

¹⁴ As obedient children, do not be conformed to the desires as in your ignorance, ¹⁵ But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do, ¹⁶ for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”

¹ Therefore, since Christ suffered in His body, arm yourselves with the same resolve, because anyone who has suffered in his body is done with sin. ² so that he can live the rest of his mortal life guided, not by human desires, but by the will of God. ³ For you have spent enough time in the past doing what the Gentiles like to do, living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing, and lawless idolatry.

³³ And she conceived again, and bare a son, and said. Because the LORD heard that, I, was I hated, he gave me, this one also. So she called his name Simeon. ³⁴ And she was with child again, and gave birth to a son; and said, Now at last my husband will be united to me, because I have given him three sons: so he was named Levi. ³⁵ Leah became pregnant again and gave birth to another son. She said: "This time I will praise the LORD." So she named him Judah (Praise). Then she stopped having children.

¹⁸ Then Leah said, God has made payment to me for giving my servant-girl to my husband: so she gave her son the name Issachar.

²⁴ She named him Joseph. She said: "May the LORD give me another son."

¹⁸ As her soul was departing (for she died), she named him Benoni, but his father named him Benjamin.

²⁶ "See I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse: ²⁷ a blessing if you obey the commands of the LORD your God that I'm giving you today, ²⁸ or a curse if you don't obey the commands of the LORD your God, by turning from the way that I'm commanding you today and following other gods whom you have not known." ²⁹ "When the LORD your God brings you into the land you are about to possess, you will offer blessings on Mount Gerizim and cursing on Mount Ebal.

³³ All Israel, with their elders, officers, and judges, stood on both sides of the ark before the Levitical priests, who carried the ark of the LORD's covenant, the foreigner as well as the native; half of them in front of Mount Gerizim, and half of them in front of Mount Ebal, as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded at the first, that they should bless the people of Israel. ³⁴ And afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessing and the curse, all, just as it is written in the book of the law. ³⁵ There was not a word of all that Moses commanded which Joshua did not read before all the assembly of Israel, and the women, and the little ones, and the aliens that walked among them.

⁷ When they told Jotham he went and stood on the top of Mount Gerizim and shouted to them, Listen to me, you men of Shechem, so that God will listen to you.

³² Leah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Reuben, because she said: »Certainly, the LORD has seen my misery. Now my husband will love me!«

⁶ Then Rachel said, God has been my judge, and has given ear to my voice, and has given me a son; so he was named Dan. ⁷ And Rachel's slave woman Bilhah conceived again, and bore Jacob a second son. ⁸ Rachel said: "I have struggled hard with my sister, and I have won!" So she named the boy Naphtali. ⁹ When Leah saw that she had ceased bearing children, she took Zilpah her female servant and gave her to Jacob as a wife. ¹⁰ And Leah's slave woman Zilpah bore Jacob a son. ¹¹ Then Leah said, "Good fortune!" And she called his name Gad. ¹² And Leah's slave woman Zilpah bore Jacob a second son. ¹³ Then Leah said, "How happy am I! For women have called me happy." So she called his name Asher.

²⁰ Leah said: "God has presented me with a wonderful gift. This time my husband will honor me, because I have given him six sons." So she named him Zebulun.

³ "Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength; excelling in dignity, and excelling in power. ⁴ Unstable as water, you shall not excel; because you went up to your father's bed; then defiled you it: he went up to my couch.

²⁹ "When the LORD your God brings you into the land you are about to possess, you will offer blessings on Mount Gerizim and cursing on Mount Ebal.

⁴ "When you have crossed the Jordan River, set up these stones about which I'm commanding you today on Mount Ebal, and coat them with plaster.

⁹ He said of his father, and of his mother, 'I have not seen him.' He didn't acknowledge his brothers, nor did he know his own children; for they have observed your word, and keep your covenant. ¹⁰ "They will teach your ordinances to Jacob, and your Law to Israel. They will burn incense before you, and whole burnt offerings on your altar.

⁷ Furthermore, Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites taught the Law to the people while the people remained standing. ⁸ So they read the book from the law of God, making it clear and giving the meaning so that they could understand the reading.

¹¹ "And all Israel transgressed your law and turned aside so as not to listen to your voice, and so the curse and the oath which was written in the law of Moses, the servant of God, has been poured out upon us, because we have sinned against him.

⁷ For the lips of the priest should guard knowledge, and they should seek instruction from his mouth, for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts. ⁸ "But you priests turned aside from the way, and by your teaching you caused many to stumble. You have violated the covenant of Levi," says the LORD of the Heavenly Armies. ⁹ And I have made you despised and cast out among all the people, because you have not kept My ways, but have been partial in the law.

²⁵ And he said, "Cursed be Canaan, a slave of slaves he shall be to his brothers."

¹⁹ When Laban went to shear his sheep, Rachel stole her father's household idols.

³⁴ And Rachel had taken the household idols and put them into the camel's saddle; and she sat on them. And Laban felt around all the tent, but did not find.

⁴ Thou shalt not make for thyself an idol, nor the likeness of any thing, which is in the heaven above, or in the earth below, or in the waters under the earth;

²³ You shall not make gods of silver alongside me, nor shall you make for yourselves gods of gold.

¹ When the people saw that Moses took a long time to come down the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and told him, "Come here and make us a god who will go before us, because, as for this fellow Moses who led us out of the land of Egypt, we don't know what has become of him." ² Aaron said to them, "Tear off the gold rings which are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters and bring them to me." ³ The people took off their gold earrings and handed them to Aaron. ⁴ And he took from their hand, and he shaped it with a tool, and he made it a cast-image bull calf, and they said, "These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up from the land of Egypt."

¹⁷ Work no molten elohim.

⁴ "'Do not turn to idols, nor make molten gods for yourselves. I am the LORD your God.

¹ "'Do not make idols or set up statues, stone pillars, or carved stones to worship. I am the LORD your God!

²² "'May this water that can bring a curse go into your body and make your stomach swell and your uterus drop!'" Then the woman will say: "Amen!" "Amen!"

¹⁶ that you not deal corruptly, and make for yourselves a graven image, a likeness of any figure, the form of a male or female, ¹⁷ any animal on earth, any winged bird that flies in the sky, ¹⁸ any creeping thing on the ground, or any fish in the sea. ¹⁹ and lest having looked up to the sky, and having seen the sun and the moon and the stars, and all the heavenly bodies, you should go astray and worship them, and serve them, which the Lord your God has distributed to all the nations under heaven. ²⁰ For the LORD took you and brought you out of the iron-smelting furnace out of Egypt to be the people of his inheritance, as you are today. ²¹ "And the LORD was angry with me because of you, and he swore that I would not cross the Jordan and that I would not go to the good land that the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance. ²² "I am going to die in this land. I will not cross the Jordan River. But you are going to go across and take possession of that good land. ²³ Be careful, lest you forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which he made with you, and make yourselves a carved image in the form of anything which the LORD your God has forbidden you.

⁸ "'Do not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in heaven above, or on the earth below, or that is in the waters beneath the earth:

¹⁶ You shall be cursed in the city, and cursed in the field. ¹⁷ Your basket and your kneading trough will be cursed. ¹⁸ "The fruit of your womb shall be cursed and the fruit of you ground, the calves of your cattle and the lambs of your flock. ¹⁹ You will be cursed when you come in and cursed when you go out.

¹⁷ "You saw their loathsome idols made of wood, stone, silver, and gold.

¹⁹ Now let your majesty listen to the words of his servant. If the LORD incited you against me, then may he accept an offering. But if it is people, may they be cursed before the LORD, because they have driven me out today from sharing in the inheritance of the LORD by saying, 'Go serve other gods.'

⁵ And Solomon followed Ashtaroth the goddess of the Sidonians, and Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. ⁶ So Solomon did evil in the eyes of the LORD and did not fully follow after the LORD as David his father. ⁷ Then Solomon built a high place to Chemosh the idol of Moab, and to their king the idol of the children of Ammon.

¹⁹ But even Judah did not obey the commands of the LORD their God. They were guided by the rules Israel made.

¹³ The king defiled the high places that were before Jerusalem, which were on the right hand of the mountain of corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Sidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for Milcom the abomination of the children of Ammon.

² And he did evil in the eyes of the LORD according to the detestable things of the nations whom the LORD drove out before the Israelites.

²⁰ If we have forgotten the name of our God, or spread out our hands to a strange god, ²¹ would not God discover this, for he knows the secrets of the heart?

⁹ All who make idols are nothing. The things they treasure are worthless. Those who would speak up for them are blind. They are shamefully ignorant. ¹⁰ Who shapes a god and casts a useless and good for nothing idol.

¹⁷ And the rest of it he makes into a god, his graven image; he falls down to it and worships, and prays to it, and says, Deliver me! for you are my god.

¹⁹ No one stops to think. No one has enough knowledge or understanding to say: "I burned half of the wood in the fire. I also baked bread over its coals. I roasted meat and ate it. Now I am making the rest of the wood into a disgusting thing and bowing to a block of wood."

³ and say to them, So says the LORD, the God of Israel, Cursed is the man who does not obey the words of this covenant,

²⁴ Can any hide himself in secret places so that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.

⁶ even the prophet Jeremiah said, Amen. May the LORD do so. May the LORD confirm your words which you have prophesied, to bring again the vessels of the LORD's house, and all that is exiled from Babylon into this place.

²⁰ '"Once they were proud of their beautiful jewels, but they used them to make disgusting idols. That is why the LORD has made their wealth repulsive to them.

⁷ Then he took me to the entrance of the courtyard. As I looked, I saw a hole in the wall. ⁸ He said to me: "Son of man, dig through the wall. So I dug through the wall, and I saw a door." ⁹ And he said unto me, Go in, and see the wicked abominations which they are doing here. ¹⁰ So I went in and looked, and saw every form of creeping things, abominable animals, and all the idols of the house of Israel, portrayed around on the wall. ¹¹ Standing in front of them were seventy elders of the house of Israel. Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan stood among them. Each man had his censer in his hand and the fragrance of the cloud of incense was rising. ¹² Then He said to me, Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the dark, every man in his rooms of images? They say, 'the LORD doesn't see us; the LORD has forsaken the land'.

⁴ Therefore speak to them, and say to them, So says the Sovereign LORD: Every man of the house of Israel who sets up his idols in his heart, and puts the stumbling-block of his iniquity before his face, and comes to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him in it by the host of his idols;

³¹ And forces shall appear on his part, and they shall defile the sanctuary fortress, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall set up the abomination that makes desolate.

² »They sin more and more. They make idols from silver for themselves. These idols are skillfully made. All of them are the work of craftsmen. People say this about the Israelites: They offer sacrifices and kiss calf-shaped idols. ³ Therefore, they will be like the morning cloud, and like the dew of early morning going away, like chaff swirling from the threshing floor, or like smoke from a window.

¹³ And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’

¹⁵ "So when you see standing in the holy place 'the abomination of desolation,' spoken of by the prophet Daniel (let the reader understand)

¹⁶ If you thank God with the spirit, how shall he who fills the place of the ordinary man say Amen to your thanksgiving? For he does not know what you are saying.

⁴ And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and of the filthiness of her adulteries: ⁵ And on her forehead a name was written, "MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF THE PROSTITUTES AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH."

¹² "Honor your father and your mother, so that your days can be long on the land that the LORD your God is giving you.

¹⁷ "Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.

³ Each of you must revere your mother and your father, and you must keep my Sabbaths; I am the LORD your God.

⁹ For he who curses his father or his mother will surely be put to death. He has cursed his father or his mother; his blood will be upon him.

¹⁸ "If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not listen or obey his father or his mother when they chastise him, ¹⁹ then his father and his mother shall take hold of him and bring him out to the elders of his city and to the gate of his place. ²⁰ "They shall say to the elders of his city: This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious! He will not obey us! He is a glutton and a drunkard. ²¹ All the men of his city shall stone him to death with stones. So you shall remove the evil from among you. All Israel shall hear, and fear.

¹¹ There is a generation that curse their father, and do not bless their mother. ¹² A generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet are not washed from their filthiness. ¹³ A generation, whose eyes are lofty, and their eyelids lifted up on high. ¹⁴ a generation whose teeth are like swords, and its jaw teeth like knives, to devour the poor from the earth, and the needy from among men. ¹⁵ The leach has two daughters: 'Give, give'. There are three things that are never satisfied; four that don't say, 'Enough:' ¹⁶ The nether world; and a barren womb; the earth which is not satisfied with water; and the fire which never saith, Enough. ¹⁷ The eye that mocks his father, and rejects obedience to his mother, the ravens of the valley pick it out, and the young eagles eat it.

⁷ In you have they treated father and mother with contempt. Among you they have oppressed the foreigner. In you they have wronged the fatherless and the widow.

⁴ For God said: ‘Honor your father and mother’ and ‘Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.’ ⁵ But you say that if a man says to his father or mother, 'Whatever help you might have received from me is a gift to God' ⁶ he need not honor his father or mother with it. Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition.

¹⁴ "Do not move your neighbor's boundary mark. The ancestors have set this in your inheritance. You will inherit this in the land the LORD your God gives you to possess.

²⁸ Don't remove an ancient boundary stone that was set up by your ancestors.

¹⁰ Do not move the ancient boundary stone. Do not encroach on the fields of the fatherless: ¹¹ for their Defender is strong. He will plead their case against you.

¹⁴ You shall not curse the deaf, nor put a stumbling block before the blind, but shall fear your God: I am the LORD.

¹⁵ I was eyes to the blind, and feet to the lame.

¹⁰ Whoever misleads the upright along an evil way will himself fall into his own pit, but the blameless will inherit what is good.

¹⁰ Israel's watchmen are blind. They all lack knowledge they are all mute dogs. They cannot bark. They just lie around and dream, they love to sleep.

¹⁴ Disregard them! They are blind guides. If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit.”

¹⁴ But I have a few things against you: you have some there who hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, to eat food sacrificed to idols and to practice sexual immorality.

²¹ “You shall not wrong an alien or oppress him, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt. ²² "Do not mistreat any widow or orphan. ²³ If you hurt them, they will cry out to me, and I will hear their cry: ²⁴ and My wrath will grow hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

² "Do not follow the majority to do wrong. Do not give testimony that perverts justice.

⁸ You shall take no bribe, for a bribe blinds those who have sight and perverts the words of the righteous. ⁹ And you will not oppress an alien; you yourselves know the feelings of the alien, because you were aliens in the land of Egypt.

¹⁸ He executes justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the alien, to give to him food and clothing.

¹⁷ You must not deprive the foreigner or the fatherless of justice, nor take a widow's clothing in pledge,

² "How long will you judge unjustly, and show partiality to the wicked?" Selah. ³ Defend the weak, the poor, and the fatherless, maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed. ⁴ Rescue the weak and needy, deliver them out of the hand of the wicked.

²³ A wicked man receives a bribe in secret, to pervert the ways of justice.

⁵ lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

⁹ Hear this, O rulers of the house of Jacob and leaders of the house of Israel, those detesting justice and perverting all that is right,

⁵ I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against the perjurers, and against those who oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and who deprive the foreigner of justice, and do not fear me," says the LORD of hosts.

²² While Israel lived in that region, Reuben went to bed with his father's concubine Bilhah. Israel heard about it. Jacob had twelve sons.

⁴ Unstable as water, you shall not excel; because you went up to your father's bed; then defiled you it: he went up to my couch.

⁸ And you may not have sex relations with your father's wife: she is your father's.

¹¹ And the man who lies with his father's wife has uncovered his father's nakedness. Both of them will surely be put to death, their blood will be upon them.

³⁰ "A man must not marry his father's wife, so that he will not dishonor his father's memory."

²² And they pitched a tent for Absalom on the roof, and Absalom went in to his father's concubines in the sight of all Israel.

¹ The sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel he was the firstborn, but when he defiled his father's marriage bed, his rights as firstborn were given to the sons of Joseph son of Israel; so he could not be listed in the genealogical record in accordance with his birthright,

¹⁰ In you they have let the shame of their fathers be seen; in you they have done wrong to a woman at the time when she was unclean.

⁷ they trample on the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and deny justice to the oppressed; and a man and his father use the same girl, to profane My holy name;

¹ It is actually reported that there is immorality among you, and of a kind that does not occur even among pagans: a man has his father's wife.

¹⁹ "The person who has sexual intercourse with an animal must be put to death.

²³ “‘You shall not lie with any animal to defile yourself with it. No woman may give herself to an animal, to lie down with it: it is a perversion.

¹⁵ " 'As for a man who has sexual relations with an animal, he shall surely be put to death, and you must kill the animal.

⁹ "‘Never have sexual intercourse with your stepsister, whether she is your father's daughter or your mother's daughter. It makes no difference whether or not she was born in your house.

¹⁷ And if a man takes his sister, daughter of his father or his mother, and has sex relations with her and she with him, it is an act of shame: they are to be cut off before the children of their people; he has had sex relations with his sister, and his sin will be on him.

¹ Sometime after this, David's son Amnon fell in love with David's other son Absalom's beautiful sister Tamar.

⁸ And Tamar went to the house of her brother Amnon, and he was lying down: and she took the dough and kneaded it, and made cakes in his sight, and baked the cakes. ⁹ and emptied the baking skillet just for him, but he refused to eat. "Send everybody out of here," Amnon said. So everyone left the room. ¹⁰ And Amnon said to Tamar, Bring the food into the inner room, and I shall eat from your hand. And Tamar took the cakes that she had made and brought them in to her brother Amnon, into the inner room. ¹¹ And when she had presented him the meat, he took hold of her, and said: Come lie with me, my sister. ¹² Then Tamar said to him, "No, my brother! Do not force me, for such a thing has not been done in Israel. Do not do this disgraceful thing! ¹³ As for me, where should I take my disgrace? You will be as one of the fools in Israel. So please, speak to the king, for he will not withhold me from you." ¹⁴ Amnon wouldn't listen to her. He grabbed his sister and raped her.

¹¹ And one has committed abomination with his neighbor's wife; and another has lewdly defiled his daughter-in-law; and another in you has violated his sister, his father's daughter.

¹⁷ You shall not uncover the nakedness of a woman and her daughter; you shall not undertake to uncover her son's daughter, or her daughter's daughter; they are her relatives; it is wickedness.

¹⁴ And if a man take a woman and her mother, it is incest: in fire shall they burn him and them; that there be no incest among you.

¹³ You shall not murder.

¹² “One who strikes a man so that he dies shall surely be put to death, ¹³ but not if it is unintentional, but God allows it to happen; then I will appoint you a place where he shall flee. ¹⁴ »If a man schemes and kills a man deliberately remove him from my altar and put him to death.

¹⁷ And he that taketh the life of any man shall surely be put to death.

³¹ And you shall take no ransom for the life of a murderer who is guilty of death. But he shall surely be put to death.

¹¹ "But if there is a man who hates his neighbor and lies in wait for him and murders him. If he flees to one of these cities, ¹² Then the elders of his city shall send and bring him from there, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.

²⁷ And when Abner was returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside into the midst of the gate to speak with him quietly, and smote him there in the body, so that he died, for the blood of Asahel his brother.

¹⁵ The letter said: "Put Uriah on the front line where the fighting is the worst. Pull the troops back from him, so that he will be wounded and die." ¹⁶ Wherefore as Joab was besieging the city, he put Urias in the place where he knew the bravest men were. ¹⁷ When the men of the city came out to fight Joab, some of David's army staff members fell, and Uriah the Hittite died, too.

⁹ "'Why did you despise what the LORD has promised by doing what is detestable in his sight? "'You struck down Uriah the Hittite with a battle sword. "'You took his wife to be your own. "'You killed him with the sword of the Ammonite army. ¹⁰ Now therefore the sword will never depart from your house, because you have despised me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.' ¹¹ "This is what the LORD says: 'Look, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house; and I will take your wives before your eyes, and give them to your neighbor, and he will lie with your wives in the sight of this sun. ¹² "'You did this secretly. I will make this happen in broad daylight in front of all Israel.'"

²⁸ Absalom commanded his servants saying, Mark now, when Amnon's heart is merry with wine; and when I tell you, 'Strike Amnon', then kill him. Don't be afraid. Haven't I commanded you? Be courageous, and be valiant!

⁹ Joab said to Amasa, "Is it well with you, my brother?" Joab took Amasa by the beard with his right hand to kiss him. ¹⁰ Amasa was not on guard against the sword in Joab's left hand. Joab stabbed him in the stomach. Then he stabbed him in his intestines and they poured out on the ground. He died without being stabbed again. Then Joab and his brother Abishai pursued Sheba son of Bichri.

⁷ Stay far away from a false charge, and don't kill the innocent or the righteous, because I won't acquit the guilty. ⁸ You shall take no bribe, for a bribe blinds those who have sight and perverts the words of the righteous.

¹⁷ For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, mighty, and awesome, who regards not persons, nor takes reward:

¹⁹ You shall not pervert justice. You shall not show partiality. You shall not take a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and perverts the words of the righteous.

⁵ He does not lend his money at interest, and does not take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things will never be shaken.

¹¹ If they say: 'Come with us, let us lie in wait for blood, let us lurk for the innocent without cause; ¹² Let's swallow them alive like Sheol, and whole like those who go down into the pit. ¹³ We'll find all valuable wealth. We'll fill our houses with plunder. ¹⁴ Throw in your lot with us. We'll all have one purse." ¹⁵ My son, do not go along with them, and keep your feet away from their paths! ¹⁶ for their feet run to evil. They hurry to shed blood. ¹⁷ Look, it is useless to spread a net in full view of all the birds, ¹⁸ but these people lie in wait for their own blood. They ambush only themselves. ¹⁹ Such is the way of all those who seek illicit gain it takes away the lives of those who possess it. ²⁰ Wisdom calls aloud in the street. She utters her voice in the public squares. ²¹ At the corner of noisy streets she calleth, at the entrances of gates; in the city she sayeth her speeches: ²² "How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? How long will mockers delight themselves in mockery, and fools hate knowledge? ²³ May you turn to my argument! Behold, I shall pour out my spirit upon you; I will make my words known to you. ²⁴ Because your ears were shut to my voice; no one gave attention to my out-stretched hand; ²⁵ because you neglected all my advice and did not want my correction, ²⁶ I also will laugh at your disaster. I will mock when calamity overtakes you, ²⁷ when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when your disaster comes on like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come on you. ²⁸ Then they will call on me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me; ²⁹ Since they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD,

¹² They take a bribe among you in order to shed blood; and you take usury, and you make gain from your neighbors by extortion, and so you have forgotten me, declares the Sovereign LORD. ¹³ And behold, I have struck My palm against your unjust gain which you have made, and at your blood which has been in your midst.

¹⁰ he who builds Zion with blood and Jerusalem with wickedness. ¹¹ Her leaders judge for bribes, and her priests teach for a price, and her prophets of it tell fortunes for money: yet they lean on the LORD, and say, “Isn’t the LORD among us? No disaster will come on us.”

² The pious has perished from the earth, and the upright is not among mankind. All of them lie in wait for blood; each one hunts his brother with a net. ³ Their hands are on that which is evil to do it diligently. The ruler and judge ask for a bribe; and the powerful man dictates the evil desire of his soul. Thus they conspire together.

¹⁵ and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I hand Him over to you?” And they set out for him thirty pieces of silver.

³ When Judas, who had betrayed Him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was filled with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders. ⁴ "I have sinned," he said, "in betraying innocent blood!" "What is that to us?" they answered; "you must see to that."

¹⁸ (With the reward of his wickedness Judas bought a field, and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his intestines spilled out.

¹⁵ Cursed is the man who makes any image of wood or stone or metal, disgusting to the Lord, the work of man's hands, and puts it up in secret. And let all the people say, So be it.

¹⁵ "But if you don't obey the LORD your God and faithfully carry out all his commands and statutes that I'm giving you today, then all these curses will come upon you and overwhelm you. ¹⁶ You shall be cursed in the city, and cursed in the field. ¹⁷ Your basket and your kneading trough will be cursed. ¹⁸ "The fruit of your womb shall be cursed and the fruit of you ground, the calves of your cattle and the lambs of your flock. ¹⁹ You will be cursed when you come in and cursed when you go out. ²⁰ the LORD will send on you cursing, confusion and rebuke in all that you put your hand to do, until you are destroyed and until you perish quickly, because of the evil of your doings by which you have forsaken Him. ²¹ The LORD will cause you to be ill with long-lasting diseases until you are wiped out from the land that you are entering to possess. ²² the LORD shall smite you with attenuation, with fever and inflammation, with hot heat and drought, with blasting and mildew, and they will pursue you until you perish. ²³ The sky above your head will become bronze while the ground beneath you will become iron. ²⁴ the LORD will make the rain of your land powder and dust. It will come down on you from the sky, until you are destroyed. ²⁵ "the LORD will cause you to be stricken before your enemies. You will go out one way against them, and flee seven ways from them. You will be an object of horror to all the kingdoms of the earth. ²⁶ Your bodies will be meat for all the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth; there will be no one to send them away. ²⁷ the LORD will strike you with the boil of Egypt and with the tumours, the scurvy and the itch, from which you cannot be healed. ²⁸ The LORD shall strike you with madness, and blindness, and confusion of mind: ²⁹ and you will grope at noonday, as the blind man gropes in darkness. And you will not prosper in your ways. And you will only be oppressed and robbed always and there will be none to save you. ³⁰ You'll be engaged to a woman, but another man will rape her. You'll build a house but you won't live in it. You'll plant a vineyard but you won't harvest it. ³¹ Your ox will be slain before your eyes and you will not eat of it. Your donkey will be violently taken away from before your face and will not be restored to you. Your sheep will be given to your enemies and you will have none to save you. ³² Your sons and your daughters shall be given to other people, and you will be looking on longingly for them all day, but you will be powerless to do anything. ³³ A people whom you don't know will devour what your land and labor produces. You'll be only oppressed and discouraged continually ³⁴ so that the sights that you see with your eyes will drive you mad. ³⁵ The LORD shall strike you in the knees, and in the legs, with painful boils that cannot be healed, from the sole of your foot unto the top of your head. ³⁶ "the LORD will bring you and your king, whom you set over you, to a nation that neither you nor your fathers have known. There you will serve other gods made of wood and stone. ³⁷ And you will become a wonder and a name of shame among all the nations where the Lord will take you. ³⁸ You shall carry much seed out to the field, and you shall gather in little; for the locusts will devour it. ³⁹ You will plant vineyards and dress them, but you will neither drink of the wine, nor harvest, because worms will eat them. ⁴⁰ You will have olive trees throughout all your borders, but you won't anoint yourself with the oil, for your olives will drop off. ⁴¹ You will beget sons and daughters, but they will not be your, for they will go into captivity. ⁴² »Locusts will take over all your trees and the fruit of your land. ⁴³ The foreigner who is among you will mount up above you higher and higher, and you will come down lower and lower. ⁴⁴ He will lend to you and you will not lend to him. He will be the head and you will be the tail. ⁴⁵ All these curses will come on you, and will pursue you and overtake you, until you are destroyed, because you didn't listen to the LORD your God's voice, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded you. ⁴⁶ They will be for a sign and for a wonder to you and to your offspring forever. ⁴⁷ "Because you didn't serve the LORD your God joyfully and wholeheartedly, despite the abundance of everything you have, ⁴⁸ therefore you will serve your enemies whom Yahweh sends against you, in hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in lack of all things. He will put an iron yoke on your neck until he has destroyed you. ⁴⁹ "the LORD will bring a nation against you from far away, from the end of the earth, as the eagle swoops down, a nation whose language you will not understand, ⁵⁰ A hard-faced nation, who will have no respect for the old or mercy for the young: ⁵¹ And it shall consume the fruit of your livestock and the fruit of your ground until you are destroyed, and who will not leave for you any grain, wine, and olive oil, calves of your herds, and lambs of your flock until it has destroyed you. ⁵² "They will blockade all your cities until the high, fortified walls you trust come down everywhere in your land. They will blockade all the cities everywhere in the land that the LORD your God is giving you. ⁵³ "Because of the hardships your enemies will make you suffer during the blockade, you will eat the flesh of your own children, the sons and daughters, whom the LORD your God has given you. ⁵⁴ "The kindest and most sensitive man among you will become stingy toward his brother, the wife he loves, and the children he still has left. ⁵⁵ »He will give none of them any of the flesh of his children that he is eating. It will be all that he has left. These are hardships your enemies will make you suffer during the blockade of all your cities. ⁵⁶ "The kindest and most sensitive woman among you, so sensitive and tender that she would not even step on an ant, will become stingy toward the husband she loves or toward her own son or daughter. ⁵⁷ She will eat her afterbirth and her newborn children secretly since there will be nothing left on account of the siege and distress with which your enemy will oppress you in your cities." ⁵⁸ If you will not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and fearful name, the LORD your God, ⁵⁹ then he will inflict extraordinary plagues on you and your children, great and lasting plagues, and severe and lasting illnesses. ⁶⁰ "He will bring all the diseases of Egypt that you dreaded. They will cling to you. ⁶¹ "the LORD will also bring you every kind of sickness and plague not written in this Book of the Law. They will continue until you are dead. ⁶² "You were at one time as numerous as the stars in the sky. But only a few of you will be left. This is because you did not obey the LORD your God. ⁶³ Just as the LORD delighted to prosper and increase you, so now the LORD will delight to destroy, exterminate, and banish you from the land that you are about to enter to possess." ⁶⁴ "He'll scatter you among the peoples from one end of the earth to the other, and there you'll serve other gods made of wood and stones, which neither you nor your ancestors have known. ⁶⁵ Among those nations you'll have no rest. There'll be no resting place for the soles of your feet. Instead, the LORD will give you an anxious heart, failing eyesight, and a despairing spirit. ⁶⁶ You'll cling to life, being fearful by both night and day, with no assurance of survival. ⁶⁷ In the morning you will say, If only it was evening! And at evening you will say, If only morning would come! Because of the fear in your hearts and the things which your eyes will see. ⁶⁸ Finally, the LORD will bring you back to Egypt by ship, a place that I said you'll never see again. There you'll try to sell yourselves to your enemies as male and female slaves, but no one will buy you."

²¹ You rebuke the arrogant, the accursed, who stray from your commands.

³ and say to them, So says the LORD, the God of Israel, Cursed is the man who does not obey the words of this covenant, ⁴ which I commanded to your ancestors on the day I brought them out of the land of Egypt, from the iron furnace. I said, 'Obey me and do everything that I commanded you. Then you will be my people and I'll be your God.' ⁵ that I may establish the oath which I swore to your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey," as at this day.'" Then I answered, and said, "Amen, LORD."

²⁴ But when a righteous man turns away from his righteousness and commits unrighteousness and does according to all the abominations that a wicked man does, will he live? None of his righteous deeds that he has done will be remembered. In his trespass that he has trespassed and in his sin that he has sinned, in them he will die.

⁴¹ Then He will say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever the Law says, it says to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. ²⁰ Therefore no flesh will be justified in his sight by works of the law, for through the law comes knowledge of sin.

⁵ For Moses describeth the righteousness which is by the law, The man who doth these things shall live by them.

²² If anyone does not love the Lord, a curse be on him. Our Lord, come.

¹⁰ All who rely on works of the Law are under a curse. For it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.”
