² When you draw near to the battle, the priest shall approach and speak to the people

⁸ The sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow the trumpets. This shall be a perpetual ordinance for you, throughout your generations. ⁹ When you wage war in your land against an enemy who is hostile to you, then sound an alarm with the trumpets. Then you will be remembered before the face of the LORD your God and be delivered from your enemies.

⁶ Moses sent them, one thousand of every tribe, to the war with Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the vessels of the sanctuary and the trumpets for the alarm in his hand.

²⁷ And the Israelites inquired of the LORD (In those days the ark of the covenant of God was there, ²⁸ and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the son of Aaron ministered before it), Shall we yet again go out to fight against Benjamin our brother, or not? the LORD said, Go up, for tomorrow I will deliver him into your hand.

¹⁸ Then Saul said to Ahijah: "Bring the Ark of God here." At that time it was with the Israelites.

⁷ And David said to Abiathar the priest the son of Ahimelech, Bring the ephod here to me. ⁸ and David inquired of the LORD saying, Shall I pursue this raiding party? Will I overtake them? He answered, Pursue, for you will certainly overtake them and recover all.

¹² "God is with us as our leader. His priests will sound their trumpets to call the army to fight you. Men of Israel do not wage war against the LORD the God of your ancestors. You will not succeed."
