But after the death of the high priest the killer will return to the land of his property. 29 These rules are to be your guide in judging through all your generations wherever you may be living. 30 " 'If anyone kills a person, the killer will be put to death according to the testimony of witnesses, but someone cannot die on testimony of one person. 31 And you shall take no ransom for the life of a murderer who is guilty of death. But he shall surely be put to death. 32 “'You shall take no ransom for him who has fled to his city of refuge, that he may come again to dwell in the land before the death of the priest. 33 “'So you shall not pollute the land where you live; for blood pollutes the land. No atonement can be made for the land, for the blood that is shed in it, but by the blood of him who shed it. 34 You shall not defile the land which you inhabit, where I dwell; for I, the LORD, dwell among the children of Israel.’”

Deuteronomy 1:17

But when I examined him carefully in the light of day, he turned out not to be my son whom I had borne!" 22 The other woman said: "The living child is mine, and the dead one is yours!" The first woman answered back: "The dead child is yours, and the living one is mine!" They argued before the king. 23 And the king said, This one says, This is my son, the living one, and your son the dead. And that one says, No, but your son is the dead, and my son the living. 24 And the king said—Bring me a sword! So they brought a sword before the king. 25 And the sovereign says, Cut the living child in two; and give half to the one and half to the one. 26 But the woman, whose child was alive, said to the king; (for her bowels were moved upon her child) I beseech thee, my lord, give her the child alive, and do not kill it. But the other said: Let it be neither mine nor thine; but divide it. 27 The king announced his decision: "Give the living child to the first woman. Don't kill him. She is his mother." 28 And when all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had given, they feared the king; for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to exercise justice.

2 Chronicles 19:8-10

8 In Jerusalem also Josaphat appointed some of the priests and Levites and patriarchs of Israel, for the judgment of the Lord, and to judge the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 9 He told them: »Faithfully serve the LORD! 10 And whatever cause shall come to you from your brothers that dwell in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, statutes and judgments, you shall even warn them so that they do not sin against the LORD, and wrath come on you and your brothers.
