¹⁵ Then take up arms against the people of that town and give it up to the curse, with all its cattle and everything in it.

²⁰ " 'Whoever sacrifices to the gods—not to Yahweh, to him alone—will be destroyed.

²⁴ "Do not worship or serve their gods or follow their practices. You must destroy their gods and crush their sacred stones.

²⁸ However, no devoted thing that a man shall devote to the LORD of all that he has, either of man or animal, or of the field of his possession, shall be sold or redeemed. Every devoted thing is most holy to the LORD.

³⁴ At that time we took all his towns, and gave them over to complete destruction, together with men, women, and children; we had no mercy on any:

² and when the LORD your God delivers them up before you and you defeat them, then you must utterly destroy them. You must make no covenant with them nor show mercy to them,

¹⁶ »Destroy all the peoples whom the LORD your God gives you. Do not look at them with pity. Do not serve their gods. For that would be a snare to you.

¹⁷ The city and all that is in it will be devoted to the LORD; only Rahab the prostitute and all who are with her in the house will live, because she hid the messengers whom we sent. ¹⁸ Now as for you, everything that has been turned over for destruction. Don't covet or take any of these things. Otherwise, you'll make the camp of Israel itself an object worthy of destruction, and bring trouble on it. ¹⁹ But all of the silver and gold, and the items of bronze and iron, are holy to the LORD, and they must go to the LORD's treasury." ²⁰ So the army shouted and the trumpets were blown again. As soon as the army heard the sound of the trumpets, they shouted loudly and the wall collapsed. The army charged straight ahead into the city and captured it. ²¹ They turned over everyone in the city for destruction and executed them, including both men and women, young and old, and oxen, sheep, and donkeys.

²⁴ Then, after burning up the town and everything in it, they put the silver and gold and the vessels of brass and iron into the store-house of the Lord's house.

⁴⁸ The men of Israel went back to Benjamin and put to the sword everything in the towns, including the livestock, and anything they found. All the towns which they found they set on fire.

¹⁶ The ten horns and the beast you saw will hate the prostitute. They will leave her abandoned and naked. They will eat her flesh and burn her up with fire,

¹⁸ and cried, when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying: What other is like this great city! ¹⁹ Then they will throw dust on their heads as they weep and mourn and cry out: “Woe, woe to the great city, where all who had ships on the sea were enriched by her wealth! For in a single hour she has been destroyed.” ²⁰ Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and apostles and prophets; for God has judged her for what she did to you. ²¹ Then a mighty angel picked up a stone the size of a great millstone and cast it into the sea, saying: “With such violence the great city of Babylon will be cast down, never to be seen again. ²² The sound of harpists and musicians, flute-players, and trumpets will never be heard in you again. No craftsman of any kind will ever be found in you again, no sound of the millstone will ever be heard in you again; ²³ The light of a lamp will never more shine in you. The voices of bridegroom and bride will never again be heard in you. Your merchants were the great ones of the earth; for by your magic arts all the nations were led astray. ²⁴ In her was found the blood of prophets and of saints, and of all who have been slain on the earth."

² for true and just are his judgments. He has judged the great prostitute who was corrupting the earth with her lewdness and he has avenged on her the blood of his servants." ³ And again they shouted, "Hallelujah! The smoke from her goes up for ever and ever."
