² Everyone lies to his neighbor. They speak with flattering lips, and with a double heart. ³ May the LORD cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that boasts,

²⁸ A lying tongue hates those it hurts; and a flattering mouth works ruin.

⁵ A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet.

²⁶ At the same time he was hoping that Paul would offer him a bribe. So he sent for Paul frequently and talked with him. ²⁷ After two years had passed, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus. Since Felix wanted to do the Jews a favor, he left Paul in prison.
