²⁷ The people of Jerusalem and their rulers did not recognize Jesus, yet in condemning Him they fulfilled the words of the prophets that are read every Sabbath.

²⁰ Ye thought evil unto me: but God turned it unto good to bring to pass, as it is this day, even to save much people alive.

²⁹ Jesus replied, “You are mistaken because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God.

⁵⁴ But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen this way?” ⁵⁵ At that hour Jesus said to the crowds, "Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me. ⁵⁶ But this has all happened so that the writings of the prophets would be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples deserted Him and fled.

³⁴ But Jesus said, "I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you deny three times that you know me."

²⁰ and how the chief priests and our rulers handed him over to be condemned to death, and they crucified him.

²⁴ Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had described. But Him they did not see.” ²⁵ He said to them, “Foolish men, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! ²⁶ Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and enter his glory?" ²⁷ And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he explained to them the things in all the scriptures, concerning himself.

⁴⁴ Jesus said to them, “These are the words I spoke to you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about Me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms.” ⁴⁵ Then he opened their minds, so they could understand the Scriptures.

²⁸ So Jesus said, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing on My own, but speak exactly what the Father has taught Me.

²¹ But they will treat you like this on account of My name, because they do not know the One who sent Me.

³ They will do these things because they have not known the Father or me.

²⁸ After this, knowing that everything was now accomplished so that the Scripture might be fulfilled, Jesus says, “I’m thirsty!” ²⁹ A jar of sour wine was sitting there. So they soaked a sponge in the wine, put it on a stalk of hyssop, and lifted it to His mouth. ³⁰ When Jesus had received the vinegar, he said: It is finished! And he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

³⁶ Now these things happened so that the Scripture would be fulfilled: “Not one of His bones will be broken.” ³⁷ And, as another Scripture says: “They will look on the One they have pierced.”

¹⁷ And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did your leaders.

¹⁴ but they passed on from Perga and arrived at Pisidian Antioch. On the sabbath they went into the synagogue and sat down; ¹⁵ After the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the synagogue leaders sent word to them: “Brothers, if you have a word of encouragement for the people, please speak.”

²¹ For Moses has been proclaimed in every city from ancient times and is read in the synagogues on every Sabbath.”

²² But I have had God’s help to this day, and I stand here to testify to small and great alike. I am saying nothing beyond what the prophets and Moses said would happen: ²³ that Christ would suffer, and as the first to rise from the dead, He would proclaim light to our people and to the Gentiles.”

²³ So they fixed a day, and came in even larger numbers to the place where he was staying, and from morning till night he explained to them the Kingdom of God and gave his testimony, trying to convince them about Jesus from the Law of Moses and the Prophets.

⁸ as it is written: "God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that they should not see and ears that they should not hear, down to this very day." ⁹ And David says: "Let their table become a snare and a trap, a stumbling block and a retribution for them. ¹⁰ Let their eyes be darkened so they cannot see, and their backs be bent forever.”

²⁵ I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in.

⁸ None of the rulers of this age understood it; for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

¹⁴ But their minds were closed. For to this day the same veil remains at the reading of the old covenant. It has not been lifted, because only in Christ can it be removed.

⁴ The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers so they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

¹³ Even though I was formerly a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent aggressor, I was shown mercy because I acted ignorantly in unbelief;
