² And the king went up into the house of the LORD, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests and the prophets and all the people, from the smallest to the greatest; and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant which had been found in the house of the LORD.

¹¹ They struck the men who were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great, so that they wearied themselves to find the door.

¹⁰ Then Moses commanded them, saying, "At the end of seven years, in the time of the year for canceling debts during the Feast of Booths, ¹¹ when all Israel comes to appear before the LORD their God at the place that he will choose, you shall read this law before all Israel in their hearing. ¹² "Assemble the people, the men and the women and children and the alien who is in your town. Assemble them that they may hear and learn and respect the LORD your God, and be careful to observe all the words of this Law. ¹³ Their children who don't know will hear and learn to fear the LORD your God as long as you live in the land that you are crossing the Jordan River to possess."

²⁶ "Take this Book of the Law, and put it next to the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD your God, where it will be a witness against you.

⁹ After they moved it, the LORD moved against the town, causing a very great panic. He struck the men of the town, from young to old with tumors of the groin.

² and had taken captive the women and all who were in it, both young and old. They didn't kill any, but carried them off and went their way.

⁹ There was not anything in the ark except the two tablets of stone which Moses had placed there at Horeb, where the LORD made a covenant with the Israelites after they went out from the land of Egypt.

⁸ And Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, "I have found the book of the law in the temple of the LORD." And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it.

¹³ And that whoever would not seek the LORD, the God of Israel, should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.

⁹ and they taught throughout Judah, and, with them, was the book of the law of the LORD,—so they went round throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.

¹ And all the people gathered as one man into the plaza before the Water Gate. And they spoke to Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded to Israel. ² So on the first day of the seventh month, Ezra the priest brought out the Law before the assembled people. Both men and women were in attendance, as well as all who could understand what they were hearing. ³ Ezra read from it, facing the plaza in front of the Water Gate, from early in the morning until mid-day in the presence of the men and women, as well as all who could understand. All the people were attentive to the Book of the Law. ⁴ Ezra the scribe stood on a wooden rostrum erected for that purpose. Beside him to his right stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Uriah, Hilkiah, and Masseiah. Beside him to his left stood Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum, Hashbaddanah, Zechariah, and Meshullam. ⁵ Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people, because he was above all of the people. When he opened it all the people stood up. ⁶ Then Ezra blessed the LORD the great God, and all of the people answered, "Amen! Amen!" while lifting their hands. Then they bowed down and worshiped the LORD with their noses to the ground. ⁷ Furthermore, Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites taught the Law to the people while the people remained standing. ⁸ So they read the book from the law of God, making it clear and giving the meaning so that they could understand the reading.

³ They stood up in their place and read from the book of the law of the LORD their God for a fourth part of the day, and for a fourth they were confessing and worshiping the LORD their God.

¹ On that day the book of Moses was read in the hearing of the people and it was found written in it that no Ammonite or Moabite should ever come into the assembly of God

⁵ When those days were over, the king held a seven-day banquet in the courtyard of the garden of his palace for all the people who were present in Susa the capital, from the greatest to the least important.

¹⁹ The small and the great are there, and the slave is free from his master.

¹³ He will bless those who fear the LORD, both small and great.

²² But I have had God’s help to this day, and I stand here to testify to small and great alike. I am saying nothing beyond what the prophets and Moses said would happen:

¹² And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne. And there were open books, and one of them was the book of life. And the dead were judged according to their deeds, as recorded in the books.
