¹⁰ Then Shaphan the scribe informed the king, "Hilkiah the priest has given me a book." Then Shaphan read from it in the king's presence.

¹⁸ When he sits on the throne of his kingdom, he must write for himself a copy of this law in a book, out of that which is before the priests, the Levites. ¹⁹ And it shall be with him, and he shall read it all the days of his life, so that he may learn to revere the LORD your God by diligently observing all the word of this law and these rules, ²⁰ And that his heart be not lifted up with pride over his brethren, nor decline to the right or to the left, that he and his sons may reign a long time over Israel.

⁹ Moses wrote this Law and gave it to the priests, the sons of Levi who carried the Ark of the Covenant of the LORD, and to all the elders of Israel. ¹⁰ Then Moses commanded them, saying, "At the end of seven years, in the time of the year for canceling debts during the Feast of Booths, ¹¹ when all Israel comes to appear before the LORD their God at the place that he will choose, you shall read this law before all Israel in their hearing. ¹² "Assemble the people, the men and the women and children and the alien who is in your town. Assemble them that they may hear and learn and respect the LORD your God, and be careful to observe all the words of this Law. ¹³ Their children who don't know will hear and learn to fear the LORD your God as long as you live in the land that you are crossing the Jordan River to possess."

¹⁸ And Shaphan the scribe informed the king saying, Hilkijah the priest has given me a book. And Shaphan read out of it before the king.

¹ And all the people gathered as one man into the plaza before the Water Gate. And they spoke to Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded to Israel. ² So on the first day of the seventh month, Ezra the priest brought out the Law before the assembled people. Both men and women were in attendance, as well as all who could understand what they were hearing. ³ Ezra read from it, facing the plaza in front of the Water Gate, from early in the morning until mid-day in the presence of the men and women, as well as all who could understand. All the people were attentive to the Book of the Law. ⁴ Ezra the scribe stood on a wooden rostrum erected for that purpose. Beside him to his right stood Mattithiah, Shema, Anaiah, Uriah, Hilkiah, and Masseiah. Beside him to his left stood Pedaiah, Mishael, Malchijah, Hashum, Hashbaddanah, Zechariah, and Meshullam. ⁵ Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people, because he was above all of the people. When he opened it all the people stood up. ⁶ Then Ezra blessed the LORD the great God, and all of the people answered, "Amen! Amen!" while lifting their hands. Then they bowed down and worshiped the LORD with their noses to the ground. ⁷ Furthermore, Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites taught the Law to the people while the people remained standing.

¹⁴ They found written in the Law that the LORD had commanded through Moses that the Israelites were to live in tents during the feast scheduled for the seventh month. ¹⁵ and that they should publish and proclaim in all their cities and in Jerusalem, saying, Go forth unto the mount and bring olive branches and pine branches and myrtle branches and palm branches and branches of thick trees, to make booths, as it is written.

¹⁸ Day by day, from the first day till the last, he read from the book of the Law of God. They kept the feast for seven days: and on the eighth day there was a holy meeting, as it is ordered in the law.

¹ On that day the book of Moses was read in the hearing of the people and it was found written in it that no Ammonite or Moabite should ever come into the assembly of God

¹⁸ "Say to the king and to the queen mother, 'Take a lowly seat, for your glorious crowns have come down from your heads.

¹ This is what the LORD says: "Go to the palace of the king of Judah, and speak this message there: ² 'Listen to the word of the LORD, king of Judah, you who sit on the throne of David you, your officials, and your people who enter these gates.

⁶ You go and read the words of the LORD that you wrote at my dictation from the scroll. Read them to the people at the LORD's temple on the fast day. Also read them to all the people of Judah who are coming from their towns.

¹⁵ They said to him, "Please sit down and read it to us." So Baruch read it to them.

²¹ The king sent Jehudi to get the scroll, and he took it from the office of Elishama the scribe. Jehudi read it to the king and to all the officials who were standing beside the king.
